Kabourophobia
Still gross. Crabs are gross. Still too many legs. Please just change the spiders into something like blobs or slimes. Thanks.
I mean pretty sure people with arachnophobia fear ACTUAL spiders, not pixels, but cant say Im against if ppl were bothered as an option.
As someone who turns on arachnophobe mode in every game where it's available, I am SO GRATEFUL for this change! The furry spiders like tarantulas have never been a problem, but anything with skinny, spindly legs makes my skin crawl for as long as it's on the screen.
I'm not quite sure the Spider Cave is less scary being a cave with dozens of crabs suspended above your head, but hey. They tried lol
Cool option! I know some people who are bothered by some of the in game spiders. I might even try it just to see the crabs!
As someone with horrific arachnophobia who DOES get freaked out by the spider mounts and hanging spiders: thank you.
Wow these comments are a cesspool! o.oI'm fine with this, though personally the makura crabs freak me out more than most of the spider models lol. My partner's brother has arachnophobia and it applies to a lot of digital spiders, to the point he can't play some games (like Skyrim), so I totally understand this toggle. Though it's interesting the amount of focus that's been put on arachnophobia in video games lately. Feel like every game is trying to outdo a better solution for it (or more silly to be meme'd on)I guess I'm just glad these kind of accessibility options are finally more standard, at least. The only time I've ever experienced motion sickness in my life was the Maw of Souls dungeon. It took me several attempts to figure out a solution for myself (had to angle the camera downwards and away from the waves) but wish there had been an option sooner. The option for the sniffing and burping noises I'm aware is a thing but I wish was maybe a little more underlined how to go about that, because I'm only aware it exists and not even how to toggle it lol (I don't personally need it, but if I did, I wouldn't know about the toggle unless I checked WoWhead as often as I do)Basically - cool stuff, hopefully it's easy to find and I hope it helps people out there that need it. Replacing models with a batch of other ones isn't much work, so people shouldn't complain about 'resources'. It's also not cringe to have phobias, my dudes. Respect people
a lot of people in here not understanding what a phobia is, it's literally an irrationally large fear response, entirely uncontrollable in the moment.
Okay... cool. But honestly, was this a good use of resources? Plenty of people have phobias but most (almost 2/3ths) are moderate/Mild and don't carry serious impacts. Of the remaining seriously effected by phobias, the amount that consist of animal related phobias is a sliver of the overall. It's far more common to have a Situational( fear of small spaces, fear of flying) or Medical phobia (fear of disease, fear of blood).Fine addition but I question the use of resources on something so irrational. When I'm sure the visual or hearing impaired would have appreciated more attention. . .
I'm really disappointed by some of the responses to this article. This is a positive move by Blizzard that doesn't affect anybody that doesn't want to use it. Arachnophobia is one of the most common phobia's on the planet, and they can get very severe. It's funny to me that the people complaining, are the ones that can't see past their own view point and how things might affect others. It's probably a few lines of code at most with a database of the spider models being fed into it. This didn't take dev time away from anybody. It probably took an hour, tops.I have severe arachnophobia, and whilst not all spider models get to me, their are still some, that despite best efforts to avoid, spending too much time around make me super uncomfortable. Models like Hadronox, Black Widow, basically any of the spindly, hairy legged models etc are all very similar to the brown house spiders. It completely diverts my attention and make it hard to play the game. I hated Azjol Nerub because of Hadronox. It's not quite the same as seeing one in real life, but after an encounter or experience with one, it makes that experience ten times harder to deal with in game. Hallucinations are real parts of phobia's that screw with other aspects of your life, people without them should at least try understand, having an option not to have your favourite game feed in to it, is a win-win for everybody. What's all the complaining about?I swear you guys just want to be mad for the sake of it these days. It's so sad to see.
This is so stupid. People are afraid of tons of things. This developer time is better spent somewhere else. People that are this afraid of spiders should just play The Sims games.
Me, scared of spiders AND crabs: o_o
Why crabs?
