Creating Good Forum Topic Titles
2009/02/16 at 11:20 PM
We have a large community here at Wowhead and ever since the introduction of our forums there has been a large amount of threads which all share one thing in common: "Help me, please!" Many users looking for help at other sites are often left feeling lost, but thanks to our great community of users (and obviously our staff), we like to think most of you actually do receive the help you need—whether it's in the form of a direct answer or simply being pointed in the right direction. In this entry, my goal is to help lead users away from vague "Help me!" titles and towards more specific requests, so they can get the help they're looking for.
Wowhead Comic #11
2009/02/15 at 6:50 PM
It's been a couple of weeks since I've had the time to make a comic, but here's a nice simple one.
Flirt with Disaster
I enjoyed making this one, I do love those dresses!
I had a moment of stupidity with this achievement, I just couldn't get it to work!... Then of course I realised I had no perfume on my toon. So yay, wasted petals. SIGH. Oh well!
Either way, I hope you all enjoyed this year's Valentine's event. I didn't have the time to get many of the fun achievements done, I'll certainly be envious of those of you with the
Til next week. xx
And of course, here is the
Dear Wowhead... (Episode 7)
2009/02/14 at 12:09 AM
Welcome back, dear readers! My sincere thanks for the flood of letters I received this week. I'm looking forward to answering as many as I can!
My father lost his job and we moved to Kharanos in Dun Morogh where he found a job as an engineer. Normally this is a good thing, but I'm a human and all the Dwarves and Gnomes live there. I also have to go to a previously all dwarf and gnome private school so I can take classes in engineering.
I always get picked on in class, the gnomes keep calling me tall and the dwarves always call me sober. The lunches there are disgusting, they serve Darkmoon Special Reserve Surprise Monday - Thursday, and we have Mechanical Squirrel Soup Fridays. I just can't fit in at this school. I need your help!!!!

Jeff Kaplan Now Working On Mystery MMO
2009/02/12 at 12:37 PM
So it looks like Game Director Jeff "Tigole" Kaplan has switched projects—he's now working on Blizzard's unannounced, upcoming "next-gen MMO". Check out the announcement:
I wanted to take a moment to let the community know that I’ve switched roles here at Blizzard to work on our upcoming, unannounced MMO. World of Warcraft has been such a central part of my life these past six and a half years, and it’s success would not have been possible without the tremendous community around it, so I wanted to say thank you to all our players who’ve shared this amazing experience with us so far. Also, while I have served as the spokesperson and Game Director for World of Warcraft on Wrath of the Lich King, by no means would WoW be where it is today without the dedicated team that we have in place. The WoW development team is comprised of some of the most talented and experienced game developers in the world, and it was an absolute honor to serve amongst them, and they will continue to make WoW better than ever. I still plan to be very involved with the future course of World of Warcraft, but will leave the day to day o
Dual Spec Info Finally Released
2009/02/12 at 11:29 AM
So the long awaited announcement (and explanation) of the Dual Spec system has come. The official site has posted a Q&A session between Nethaera and Ghostcrawler, talking in detail about the mechanics of the upcoming system.
For the benefit of our readers, I've included a quick summary of the more exciting points here on our blog. Check them out after the break, and leave your comments on how they did it (or how they
have done it)!
The Ice Stone Has Melted!
2009/02/11 at 12:57 PM
There appears to be a bug on live realms—or at least, any live server that's running the "
Love Is In The Air
" event. Apparently people are getting spammed with a world event emote, saying "The Ice Stone Has Melted".
indicates that the "Ice Stone" has something to do with the Midsummer Event, so this appears to be a simple bug.
on the official forums which indicates it's being looked into. We'll update this post when more info get's posted. :)
Another blue post on the issue
again on the subject. Looks like the fix is in progress. :)
Love is in the Air 2009 (Feb 11 - Feb 16) - Quest Guide + Information!
2009/02/11 at 10:29 AM
just coming to a close, already another holiday has come along full of festivities (and achievements) to keep us busy! 2009's
Love is in the Air
event, an in-game Valentine's Day of sorts, runs from
February 11 - February 16
, a mere six days (less, technically) to take in all there is and finish as many of the new achievements as possible! Spread the love to the citizens of your faction and score some candy, fireworks, a new dress or suit, or even a

Patch 3.0.9 Released! (Also Official Venting Location)
2009/02/10 at 11:12 AM
Edit: Maintenance extended another two hours, until 1pm PST. Who's surprised? :)
Server down? Having trouble patching? Hate the changes they made to your class? Have a rash on your feet that just won't go away, and you're waiting for Blizzard to send you some ointment? Well, here's the place to tell us about it. And if the servers just come back up without issue, then...well then we'll just let this thread die. :)
Especially interesting about this patch is the official patch notes, which can be found here:
More info on this after the break!
2009/02/09 at 4:41 PM
has announced that the 3.0.9 patch is coming out tomorrow, and posted a set of patch notes. There has been some confusion on the official forums, since the official patch notes on the site still read 3.0.8, and Boubouille doesn't cite a source on MMO-Champion—but since it's a hot topic, I thought I'd post the patch notes here.
Please note these may not be official patch notes. Without an official Blizzard source, we can't verify their authenticity. We offer them here for discussion purposes only.
The full notes are listed after the break.
Wowhead Comic Filler Art Week
2009/02/08 at 10:02 PM
Sorry for the lack of comics, folks—I've been so busy doing artwork commissions for the boys and girls here at Wowhead that I haven't had time to draw up a comic this week!
I don't have a comic to show, but I hate for you guys to go without—so I've gotten my clients' permission to post some of the works-in-progress here so you can see what I've been working on all this time.
First, though, a random sketch from the Wowhead Broadcast News network:

Dear Wowhead... Delayed!
2009/02/07 at 10:51 PM
Welcome back, dear readers! It seems as though you're going to have to go without your fix today...for what should I find when I sat down at my writing desk, but...an empty mailbox?
That's right, I haven't received any letters for a full two weeks! How do I offer advice if no one asks for it? How can I provied the beautiful gift of my wisdom and discretion to the world, without letters to answer? The way things have been going, you'd think I was a nosy busybody who's always getting involved in other peoples' business!
If you would like to see your letter featured on Dear Wowhead, simply send a note to firstname.lastname@example.org with "Dear Wowhead" in the subject, and your question may be chosen for the column. If there are enough letters, I may be able to answer two a week!
Please do NOT ask your questions in the comments. What fun is it if everyone gets to read them early?
WoW not for sale in Australia? (Official Response)
2009/02/06 at 11:36 AM
So a lot of attention has been paid lately to the recent news that WoW was supposedly no longer legally for sale in Australia. Apparently the issue is that being an online game, WoW is not rated by the Australian ratings board—and new legislation has just been passed to prevent the sale of unrated games. WoWInsider had a story posted about it
Well, the day of the law change has passed and WoW is still on the shelves.
(and their sister site,
) claim it's because no one really cares enough about the issue to pull them, but a recent email from Blizzard seems to indicate otherwise. At Nethaera's request, I have republished the email here after the break.
