无面者头盔 and 征服者的庇护面甲 are very similar helmets. 征服者的庇护面甲 ends up easier to slot into most sets, giving you an avenue to access your set bonuses as well as having substantially more defense.

This being a tier slot complicates what shoulder you want to prioritize and as you gear you will probably want to swap between either of these as more pieces come in.

Otherwise there is very little room to play with in phase 2, there aren't that many shoulders for us to choose from.

Chest for Protection Paladin Tank Phase 2

永恒胸铠 is the best chest for you in phase 2, however due to restrictions around tier set bonuses, you may want to opt for 征服者的庇护胸铠. Essentially this slot will determine which helmet you decide to pick up and we advise you to, at least initially use a first come first serve discretion.

Otherwise this slot doesn't allow you much creative control, there are very few chests in phase 2, 铁壁胸甲 is the odd one out as you will want this for an encounter later down the line. So should 铁壁胸甲 drop, just bank it for phase 3.

Hands for Protection Paladin Tank Phase 2

新兴护手 are significantly better statted than any of the other gloves, though most of that is afforded through its major leap in iLevel, the stat spread itself is not extraordinary and in this case, the addition of an extra gem slot makes this weaker than it otherwise would be. Despite all that, it's got a fairly huge leg up on its competitors in tankyness.

皇家卫兵护手 is a well balanced set of gloves with a very efficient budget, it doesn't waste any of it on parry or otherwise expensive stats. The hit might be overkill for some though there are no real alternative gloves if you aren't doing hardmode. However perhaps best of all is that it's purchaseable for 征服纹章, meaning there is no competition or unnecessary waiting for these.

征服者的庇护护手, 勇猛的庇护护手, and 孤立护手 are all leaning a bit too heavily into their SBV to pick them up and while there's nothing wrong with block value in phase 2, there's just too much magic damage to rely on this situational mitigation.

钢铁熔炉护手 is just a weird item, you might pick these up if you don't have anything else, they compete with 勇猛的救赎手甲 but both of them are obsolete by the time you step your foot into Ulduar.

We don't recommend that you pick 附魔手套 - 精确 or 附魔手套 - 精准 as an offensive glove enchant, it's almost always better to go with 附魔手套 - 士兵.

Recommended BiS Glove Enchant 装甲护网 > 附魔手套 - 士兵. If you have 锻造 you can also attach 插槽手套 to your gloves.

Waist for Protection Paladin Tank Phase 2

牢固板甲束带 sits unique in the belt slot for phase 2 as the only belt with a focus on high meaningful avoidance, compared to the alternatives this is the tankiest option. While worse in threat and DPS than most other counterparts on this list it does have high strength from which it draws considerable offensive power from. Being a crafted BoE makes this highly accessible and may lighten the load on your raid, and provide you with a solid guaranteed item

持盾护卫束带 is the clear tanking belt for when you need to hit cap, it's a straight linear upgrade from 风暴锻造束带. 巨像怒火腰带 is a DPS belt, we try and avoid taking gear like this though it's warranted a mention since it being a 252 iLevel item, has an above the norm item budget, putting this on par or ahead in EHP with actual tanking belts.

屠龙者的束带 is a consolation prize if you never get any of the above belts, though seeing how accessible they are you'll likely never use this in Phase 2. However keep this in your bank, it may be relevant to you in phase 3.

永恒腰带扣 is a universal item enhancement for your belt. Those with 工程学 also get access to a 弹带.

无尽虚空腿铠 unsurprisingly sits as the highest value legs that you can acquire in phase 2. Besides the huge iLevel upgrade over the alternatives the additional socket and emphasis on high value avoidance put these ahead.

征服者的庇护腿甲 is advantageous over 萨隆邪铁固化护腿, while the latter have similar EHP to 无尽虚空腿铠 the tier legs gives you additional access to the set bonus, as well as an overall more balanced item.

镀金精钢腿铠 are very advantageous in that they come from 10-man and give a solid middle ground between first and second best options in this slot. In some respects this is even better than 征服者的庇护腿甲 assuming you don't get 2 or 4-piece set bonus through your legs.

Recommended BiS Leg Armor: 霜皮腿甲片 otherwise if you have 制皮 you can make 冰虫腿甲强化片.

钢铁军队胫甲 is a hefty piece, while a little lacking in strong avoidance it offers a substantial addition of expertise and pulls ahead in EHP over its counterparts. It's from a hardmode which means you may not see these for a while, though when you do get them they are easy to slot into most sets.

尖刺死亡战靴 being a BoE crafted makes these quite lucrative, allowing you to bypass all RNG to get these ASAP. On top of that, they're very strong and are competitive with any of the boots that we can get in phase 2.

焦黑萨隆邪铁胫甲 stands as your prime hit option in your feet slot, however since we are not short on strong hit alternatives already these mostly serve the purpose of giving you a diversity of option while still gearing.

岩石卫士胫甲 are really high in SBV and doesn't offer much else, kind of a stepping stone item that you can wear while still acquiring other pieces, this does have good anti physical properties.

Recommended BiS Feet Enchant: The unique properties of 硝化甘油推进器 lends itself extremely well to tanks, and it's recommended to keep multiple sets of boots with this and 附魔靴子 - 强效坚韧. If you don't have 工程学, 附魔靴子 - 强效坚韧 stands as the best option with the exception of 附魔靴子 - 海象人的活力 when you're not specced into 正义追击.

命运的约束 is a really strong ring, that's also readily obtainable by most teams. The iLevel inflation and the sort of stats you're getting with this means that you're unlikely to ever unequip it.

巨兽螺旋 is a solid jack of all trades ring that while lacking the explicit direction of some other rings this is easily slotted for most sets.

艾塞尔的白金指环 pairs really well with 命运的约束 for a high expertise setup.

奥杜尔的徽记 is just a better version of 寒冬徽记 and neither of these have any defense, making them more difficult to equip, especially during your gearing process. 奥杜尔的徽记 is solid however as it presents you with the 2nd highest EHP out of any tanking ring in phase 2.

背弃国王的徽记之戒 bears mentioning though we don't expect any protection paladin to actually need or acquire this for quite some time, though with the right setup this is a very powerful threat slot in, however you do not need this at any point in phase 2.

Recommended BiS Ring Enchant: 附魔戒指 - 耐力 - Only Enchanters may apply Ring Enchants on their own rings.

Not much changes in phase 2. 钢铁之心 and 莱恩国王的皇家徽记 are practically linear upgrades from phase 1 and what was strong then is still functional now. Generally you pick and choose trinkets based on the occasion, every trinket has extraordinary use when applied correctly. If you're unsure, stamina & armor trinkets are very strong.

熔炉之石 is perhaps the most interesting, with a weak passive but potentially wicked on-use this is very similar to the beloved 影月徽记 from TBC in both form and function against physical attacks.

Weapons and Offhands for Protection Paladin Tank Phase 2

疯狂之吻 is the highest performing weapon in Phase 2 for us in a vacuum, however since it is so highly contested and only narrowly superior to the alternatives we recommend that you focus efforts on 瑟利拉斯，因瓦尔·独臂的血刃.

The alternative is that if you rolled a you will have access to 锤类武器专精, making all of the good mace alternatives equal to 瑟利拉斯，因瓦尔·独臂的血刃. In turn giving you a higher degree of choice and less competition for your weapon upgrades. For dwarves we recommend that you get 乌米尔，北地的风暴 so that you can pass on the swords for potential DPS or other tanks, at least initially as this will really help out your raids gearing process.

狂怒角斗士的短棍 and other PvP weapons are special in that it will require a massive PvP investment from you to acquire. These are slated to require 2200 Rating to purchase, which we don't consider to be all too realistic for the majority of players out there. However if you are going to get this, know that the real utility of the weapon (beside having a weapon and not competing for a PvE drop) is that the additional resilience on this, will come crucial if you want to wear more than 2 OS/DPS pieces such as belt & ring later down the line.

Lastly 索萨利斯，守护者之锤 or 战栗 bears mention, they're both hardmode weapons and are strictly worse than most options from Ulduar, fast weapons with parry are unfortunately just way too weak compared to slow weapons with agility. The only real saving grace of this is that they have a significant stamina pool and it's less contested than 最后的笑容 was last phase, however note that some DPS might still want these as a middle of the road upgrade to their BiS though much less likely to be contested.

Shields for Protection Paladin Tank Phase 2

Both 奥尔加隆的壁垒 and 北风卫士 are roughly of equal performance and both are unfortunately locked behind high demand content. We recommend that you don't fret over your shield too much, 北地屏障 is a solid option for those with few prospects to farm hardmode encounters.

Otherwise 10-man 纳克萨玛斯 (as well as 25man) and 10-man 奥杜尔 will give you access to a myriad of functional shields if you're still in the need to catch up or prepare for phase 2.

Why Seal of the Pure (3/5 +9% Seal of Vengenance damage) over Crusade (3/3 +3% damage)?

I looked at Warcraft Logs on my patchwerk kill, reduced all damage sources by 6% (to remove the +6% damage from crusade versus undead) and then compared the two talents, and Crusade had a slight advantage (about an extra 1% damage done). Crusade also works with Seal of Command for Add fights and trash.

Appears to be a mistake in the gloves socket where a blue gem is used to a red slot whereas a purple gem is used in the belt buckle which could go in gloves to get socket bonus.

Could you please help me understand why a slow weapon is increasing the dps of a prot paladin. I can't find any ability which is scaling with weapon dmg and not weapon dps. even the seals are affected percentage wise and therefore scale with the speed.

Is Blood Draining really worth it over mongoose or berserking as an option if you don't need accuracy? I've tried it but on most fights it's pretty much useless because you rarely fall under 35% and even on Algalon, what one would assume to be the best fight for it, it only pulls like 10k healing at best over the course of an entire encounter, it's a pretty crappy enchant.

Hello! Thanks for your guides! I've been Prot Pally main tanking for all of wrath, almost BiS now, and I'm wondering why your balanced set has so much expertise? I know legplates of endless void are very strong so that would break the 4 piece, but objectively the Tier chest is still better mitigation than breastplate of the timeless if you are already at soft Expertise cap. We get so much expertise that I was able to drop the vengeance glyph even without breastplate of the timeless, which I do have but am not currently using. I know that expertise above the soft cap does still help with parries, but I look at my meters and I have 2-5 parries out of 150+ in a whole boss fight for my melee attacks (similar for other skills that can be parried) and so I find myself asking is it worth losing a defensive stat that is on the tier piece. And you also have some expertise gemmed. Even in the EHP set you have 44 expertise and 3% hit, which is easily fixed too while losing almost no effective mitigation. Just genuinely curious about the thoughts because I'm always trying to improve my understanding of tanking, thanks!

Between your Balanced and EHP sets, you have the same items with different gems. Would you consider reworking these sets so the same gems are used in identical items?
