Seems to me that this will indeed be a dw dk tanking weapon, this isn't really good for prot warrs or paladins, dk's will make far better use of it and it outputs much better dps and dk will need the slower speed for more threat.

Also note the speed of this weapon favors dual wield tanking Death Knights and paladins due mainly because of the speed, warriors I believe tend to favor the faster speeds for better rage dumping through Heroic Strike as extra unused rage is less tps, Paladins and Death Knights(as far as I know) do not have this issue.

I use this as a warrior tank. With such a high top end and +15% crit to devestates and impale. I am able to static around 6k TPS peaking around 7.5. I really enjoy this speed of weapon and doubt I'd have higher threat with a faster weapon.

This IS great for Warriors!
Yeah, you always have a full rage bar, but who cares? The times of aggro problems are over, so there is abolutely no need for rapid HS spamming.
Slow tank weapons have great advantages over fast ones:
- more Devastate Dmg
- great HS and Cleave Crits - easy tanking additional adds with only one weaponswing
- more Mocking Blow dmg

Just got this tonight as a Protection Warrior as an upgrade from a blue heroic axe. I don't really notice the speed difference much and on fights where I'm capped on rage (ala Patchwork), this is never an issue anyway.

The only problem I foresee with the speed is possibly trash when bloodrage is on CD and charge isn't an option, as rage may become something scarce.

Also, it gets cool points for having a soft blue glow innately. Doesn't display enchanting glows, but the pulsing border of light is much more awesome than any glow.

It seems alot of people are confused about this sword, and as far as a warrior is concerned, this is a trash tanking sword. No I don't mean the sword itself is trash, I mean it's usefulness lies in tanking trash mobs, or perhaps offtanking.

Let me elaborate: Tanking isn't limited to just 10 man or 25 man bosses as the main tank, there are also a lot of situations in which you are offtanking mobs or tanking trash, that is where this sword comes in handy. In your typical main-tank situation you are going to have infinite rage and will want to dump this with heroic strikes as fast as possible, but if say you were the offtank dealing with limited rage on the same mob, you would want this sword in order to more effectively use your rage, resulting in larger heroic strikes or to a lesser degree, sunder armor.

But when you move away from the 10-25 spank-and-tank boss situation, that's where you begin to see the usefulness of this blade, and that is: Multi-targeting. Let's say you were doing Gothik in Naxxramas, and you had to tank and hold aggro on the adds while the others DPSed them down, this blade would prove far more useful than any 1.6 speed weapon on a limited rage budget, especially if you don't have the improved cleave talent, and then there is a huge bonus in tanking with Retaliation up while wielding this weapon, because naturally it will hit far harder. Needless to say I would find it difficult to hold aggro on multiple mobs as a warrior limiting myself to just Thunder Clap and Shockwave, and that's where this weapon comes in.

Is this weapon suitable for main-tanking a boss? No, not usually.

Is this weapon suitable for off-tanking a boss or tanking trash? Yeah, definately.

Personally, I find it important that a warrior carry both a fast and slow tanking weapon, in order to match the situation, and honestly, any warrior worth their salt should really know this by now.

While in theory parry gibbing would cause DKs to be inefficient tanking as DW spec, the reality of the situation as an unholy OT (where DK knights are seeming to really find their niche) would leave them generating extreme threat for trash and OT jobs. The theoretical flaw of DWing is parry gibbing against raid bosses, who could crush them in very few swings, swing what they have in avoidance is quickly nulled by the 18k hits they take. However, in an OT position they are perfectly suited to dual weild, as they do not suffer the major threat loss of missing with a two handed weapon. My guilds DK leader is theory-crafting an unholy build using DW spec to tank and so far he has yet to meet his match in naxx 25 or OS, and the spec seems to be scaling with gear better than frost. In all honesty I would not touch this sword as a warrior tank, as the quick swing speed will always be preferable for heroic strikes and general rage gen. The only use I could see in a low weapon would be rage gen as an OT, but unless I am actually tanking something, I dont need that rage boost, and if I am it will not be an issue.

through abit of study, it was concluded that RF does give non holy dmg a multiplyer of 1.43. taking into consideration that reckoning 5/5 does proc on blocks(does not show in talent calc, but will pop up ingame, meaning even full blocks are covered), i dont think it is entirely outof the question for some tree's. abit better if your facing lots of trash anyways. on a semi-side note, proccing mana threw JoW gains some threat to. borrow a detailed threat addon =p and see for yourself

(edit, BoS doesnt proc mana threat like SoW)

Before you try to be smart there the thunderclapp / shockweave and damage shield proccs deep wounds so doesnt matter if you heroic strike is slow and even if heroic strike is slow you kinda crit alot with sunder / shieldslam

As a warrior tank, after reading some negative comments about this weapon after shortly winning it I was slightly turned off to it. However, after using it I found that nothing is wrong with it. Don't let the weapon speed or the negative comments left here fool you, especially if you are at the hit cap which I believe is at or at least around 265ish. If you are hit capped a slower weapon won't be as bad as people say it would be due to the fact that you're chances to miss are extremely low. IMO, I'd take a slower weapon and be hit capped rather than take a faster weapon and miss more often.

The name is actually an in-joke on the part of the developers. They had promised not to make any more slow (i.e. more than 2.0 speed) tanking weapons. This sword is therefore a "broken promise".

with an glyph for SoC might be better combo even than Last laugh and SoV/SoCor.I calculated it(hope right) and it turned out that judging with SoC will do ~100dmg more than SoV/SoCor with 5 stacks on the target,the prock will do around the same dmg if i dont misstake but you'll have to hope for procs.Personaly if i get my hands on this weapon i'll use the spec posted above and... hope it turns out well :)

EDIT:Right now i use https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=37401 with this spec:https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/talent=sVZ0xVA0ugteIRGoxd .My melee hits are for ~520 dmg and five stacks of seal of vengence tick for 413dmg every 3 second with the talent.So the white dmg i do is reduced by the armor of my target,but the holy dmg isnt,that meens that with the https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/talent=sZ0xVA0ugteIRGoxf0d i will be doing like 700 white dmg per hit(non critical) and the same amount of holy dmg when SoC procs.Dont forget that its a proc chance,so if you dont like it dont go for it,the speed of the weapon aswell is slow,but more SoC proc dmg and reckoning might just trigger SoC proc aswell.

I had this drop for me last week and i notice no change in TPS. I do notice that DW damage has increased some . I also have Slayer of the Lifeless and prefer using this in most situations. I agree in saying that weapon speed is not a stat to be worried about like it was in TBC. I will be farming for Last Laugh

Just thought I may get my word in here, along with all of the walls of text.

I, as a prot warrior, am differential about this weapon. The reason why is HS, which does a large amount of my threat, and I do the most TPS out of all tanks in my guild, when I'm getting hit. You already know why this is a problem, but I havent done any testing of this at the current point, but the speed is so ghastly, I dont really care to try, I have LL now, so I'm set till 3.1 :)

As part as prot pallies go, I was rolling on this, seeing as I thought it would be better at the time than the 10 man sword, and the pally decided to drop out saying something about less procs. I won it, and won LL on kel (which actually made the pally mad because I had won two weapons that night, but thats another story :P).

As advice for warriors at the most, maybe even other tanks, if you have your heart set on this weapon, get mongoose, it'll partially make up for the speed problems with its proc, and the extra agility helps crit.

So I had a rogue roll against me for this and win... I'm a prot warrior.

His justification? Shadowpanther.net says it's one of the top 3 rogue swords in the game.

I for one don't see it... I mean... sword spec? With a 6 second internal cooldown? With a tanking sword? I must be missing something.

Perhaps what I'm missing is the lobotomy that rogue must have suffered. I hope he enjoys his Fel Stopsign for 5 minutes until he wises up and goes fists/daggers...

In my opinion this wep would be an amazing choice for prot warriors going for the UA (unrelenting assult) build.
For the higher max dps and higher top end deep wounds/revenge hits this would maximise your total dps while tanking.

This weapon was best there Paladin tanking weapon prior 3.1. Reason to this may not be clear for everyone so I explain it.

Only Paladin tanking ability that is directly effected by weapon is Hammer of the Righteous. Commonly HotR and it is effected by MELEE damage (not just shiny DPS because otherwise it would hit always for same)

When we calculate HotR damage, against some misconception, it is NOT 4* melee DPS, rather minimum to maximum melee damage*4 (weapon damage + damage from DPS in normalized form (making it to ignore weapon speed) So 200 bonus DPS would give +200 more to min and max damage.

That fits to how ulduar weapons actually were desinged, all were fast hitting ones.
Pity really since there still could be some difference in warrior and Paladin tanking...

Expect alot of DK's to start farming this as it's currently the slowest 1h epic with def (that is obtainable outside Ulduar)...and DW DK tanks are going to want 2x slow.

Seems like a perfect distribution of stats for a dual-wield DK come 3.2.

Joyfully slow, with oodles of expertise and defence, and a little +hit thrown in for good measure.

so far it seems that with 3.2 bringing a major change to SoV, this sword will offer superior TPS for tankadins.

SoV has been reworked so that after 5 stacks of the debuff have been applied to any mob, SoV deals 33% of weapon damage with each strike, and as this sword has a slower speed, it will end up dealing more holy damage per strike.

although expertise is generally low on my stat list (as we gain a huge ammount from talents and glyphs alone) i will definately be picking this up for my threat set.

The best DK Frost DW tanking weapon (and the only slow one)

Since you could not apply Rune of SG on it, the only choice is +2%parry.

However, you lose a lot of Sta due to this fact.
You will be a cool-looking Off-tank.

As of 3.3.0, this weapon will show enchant glows (Or at least it'll show Blood Draining, as that's what I have it enchanted with) at the expense of the inherent blue glow. So if you're really attached to the blue glow for some reason, don't enchant this thing.
