I do not understand the block rating on this. Block rating is hardly more useful on a warrior or paladin than it is for a death knight (for the dense, i.e. not at all useful).

Nonetheless, this is still the best tanking neck in the game, and I would take this over the dps neck for my Fury Warrior.

Shield block rating is a great stat since patch 3.x With the formula for shield block value being changed to 1 block value per 2 strength, instead of 20, the addition of strength to all tanking gear, the addition of critical blocks, and damage shield abilities it is not only a huge mitigation stat, but also an aoe tanking stat and threat stat. Not to mention that it is the cheapest way to get Revenge to light up, now that shield block has completely changed.

I love sbr now, whereas patch 2.4 and earlier I scoffed at sbr, now I am happy to get some.

Also, Dodge and Parry are on diminishing returns--Block is not.

And from a paladin PoV, the old 102.4% miss+dodge+parry+block for 'uncrushable' isn't key... *but* we're now the only class capable of guaranteeing either avoidance or block if our m/d/p/b (plus holy shield) is over 102.4%, meaning you'd still like to maintain 102.4+ where feasable, so block rating is still nice for tankadins too.

Plus less spikey damage'll definitely help endear you with the healing corps...

Not true, block is subject to diminishing returns as well.

EDIT: Also I'm guessing the original poster meant sbr was usless in end game, which has some merit considering once you get 102.4% combined avoidance/SBR you block or avoid every attack. Additional block does nothing. So for warriors this is only possible 10 out of every 40 seconds due to changes in shield block, but paladins are permanently able to keep this up with holy shield.

So while additional block after 102.4 is ineffective, SBR itself is a great way to get to 102.4 and I wouldn't poo poo it considering at end game you can get 2.5-3% block for 1% dodge/parry due to diminishing returns.

To obtain this you need to do the following:

Kill Saphiron 25 man. He will drop an item that begins a quest. Only one person in the raid may loot this item. The quest will ask you to talk to an NPC at the top of Wyrmrest Temple. The NPC will then give you a quest to go and kill Malygos. Upon killing Malygos, loot the Quest item then take it to the NPC on Wyrmrest Temple. He will give you this (or one of 3 other necks of your choice) as a quest reward.

This is probably the best in-slot item currently for Warrior/Pala tanks. Coupled with a 41 stamina gem (Jewelcrafters only) it gives a massive 141 stamina.

As of Patch 3.09

For Druids: based on stats, this is 2nd best in slot for bears with Boundless Ambition taking 1st place (not by much). Heritage is 3rd

To be honest, there's not much difference between the 3. It's a shame there's parry and shield block, wasted stat budget for Druids/DKs...

Boundless Ambition has superior armor and expertise

Nexus War Champion Beads has superior base stats since you can stick a gem in it (agi/stam as needed)

Heritage has superior dodge and hit rating (yes it helps as a bear!)

If you have the choice, go for the one that increases the stats you need.

Heritage is by far the the easiest one to get as it drops off 5 bosses in Naxx heroic. Failing all of the above there is the Craftable Titanium Earthguard Chain or the Amulet of Autopsy that drops off Heigan in Naxx 10 as alternatives to any tank's first neck, Chained Military Gorget purchased with Emblems of Heroism. Would DKs take this over Heritage? I know the Shield Block rating is wasted item stat, but this presents much more HP, especially with and stam gem. and the hit isn't that bad to lose even if you aren't hit capped - since its very easy to keep threat up on bosses these days(this might change in 3.1 though).

Except that they removed crushing blows unless the mob is 4 or more levels above you, so the change to Shield Block doesn't really affect much, it just gives us another cooldown.

That's the opposite of how it works now. Every % that you get on the way to 102% (now referred to as block-cap, because it's the point that no hit goes un-blocked) is worth more than the last, in terms of your long-term survivability.

Being that block's the cheapest way to increase your mitigation percentage total, it's a totally worthwhile item (unless you're already block-capped, which can only be done as Paladin, in the current content). ^^
