This is like a mini-block effect. The proc chance says 5%, meaning that with several mobs hitting you, it can be up very often. This depends on wether or not there is an internal cooldown though of course.

Good AoE tanking trinket in any case.

This thing is probably very nice for soloing old instances if you pull a lot of mobs at once and want some extra mitigation. The proc from this + blocking / Savage Defense will cut your damage taken by quite a bit. An internal cooldown if there is any wouldn't matter much in such use as you may stop to loot mobs in between pulls.

In raiding I find this trinket a bit situational due to the proc clearly being designed for aoe tanking. The hefty amount of dodge rating on this makes it not bad but I'd probably keep using Defender's Code for tanking big nasty things if it came down to a choice between the two.

Nice trinket, it has it's use and is best at AoE tanking, mostly trash.
However without much of choice this is still what most properly geared tanks want.

Alternatives to this vary according to class and preferance of tanking style.

This trinkets proc does not share cooldown with essence of gossamer, I just did a test and first the heart procced, and afterwards gossamer procs. If they work both at the same time and stacks i cant say.

Actively worse than https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45313 . Not sure why 7iLvls only gets 2 more dodge when the Equip ability of this is much worse than the /use on the furnace stone.

Seriously this trinket is pretty terrible, the proc is like essence of gossamer...Fail, only slightly less fail. The dodge rating is very nice but I personally prefer trinkets such as https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45313, https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=47216 and https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45158

This trinket I've decided is great for Onyxia whelp tanks. When the trinket procs it provides huge amounts of mitigation especially if you also have essence of gossamer and they proc at the same time.

This trinket is highly underrated. ToGC 25 Anub makes this one of the best trinkets the offtank(s) can get. Put a https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=45313 in the other slot or https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=49487 and you're good to go. Stamina is not the stat for this encounter. Especially p3 when you're supposed to hover as near-death as possible.
