Best bet is to be a gnome warlock or dwarf paladin with engineering and tailoring professions. Then you only need 1 rare mount - ebaying a TCG mount card might be the easiest way.
Here's how:

Purchase with gold/honor/pvp tokens:
You can purchase 30 mounts from your factions.
You can purchase 5 mounts with honor.
You can purchase 1 mount with AV marks.
You can purchase 7 gryphons.
You can purchase 8 talbuks from Telaar.
You can purchase 2 talbuks from Halaa pvp tokens.
You can purchase 6 netherdrakes.
You can purchase 5 nether rays.
You can purchase 1 hippogryph.
You can make 2 helicopters.

In addition:
You can purchase 2 brewfest rams (minimum 6 days of brewfest dailies each).
Alliance can quest for the Winterspring Frostsaber.
Paladins get 2 mounts.
Warlocks get 2 mounts.
Expansion will bring a craftable motorcycle and a craftable flying carpet.

Also makes this post slightly redundant now but I put too much effort in to delete it. Maybe Tauren can use it in future to gather mounts without having to go on the drops or RL-cash ones.

Well, not counting any TGC mounts, profession mounts, mounts new to WotLK or insane low droprates from dungeons (Raven Lord, Huntsman, A'lar, etc - yet including the Amani Bear) Tauren can collect 52 mounts.

There we have it, 71 mounts. Not counting WotLK ones yet. Just look how easy that was....

The main difference for Tauren comes from the City and PvP mounts, where we lose 7 BE, 6 Troll, 5 Undead, 2 PvP. So thats 20 mounts straight off we cannot get. If this was removed for Tauren (and to balance, add a few more for dwarves/gnomes with the mechanostriders) to make it 55 it instantly becomes more realistic to collect without having to rely on pure luck, insane skill in PvP AND having lots of RL cash and instead comes back to how it is for every other race - grinding, both reputation and gold (for the vendor ones) and a small amount of PvP (for the honour/AV ones).

As the ones who have bothered reading all of this post so far may have gathered, I hope Blizz changes this to make some allowance for us cows.

I wonder if the 4 Broom mounts from Halloween will even count seeing as they only last 14 days, unless that is gunna be changed this year...

It's been said that only mounts that can bee added to the "mount/pet storage" will count. The brooms with their duration, I could only assume would not be added to that system and would remain items that expire.

Found a Bug on the PTR. It seems the Nether Drakes do not count for the achievement at the moment. I have 20 mounts but only 14 count.

Actually blizz stated that the kodos were only horde and rams are now alliance only. A lot of alliance people complained about it on that thread, but as far as I know they haven't changed it to kodos for all.

Speaking of the holidays Hallow's End does have 1 or 2 new mounts that are permanent, Headless Horseman's Horse.

Now the requirement is 50 mounts, this achievement can be unlocked with PvP and rep mounts alone. I have an Armarni Warbear and Attumen's mount + hippogryph, and managed it with PvP mounts, netherwing, skyguard, standard Outland flyers, and mounts from 4 major cities. If you don't have any rare mounts, you'll need to get 3 from your appropriate Nagrand faction too.
Qualifying mounts may be Epic or "blue".

Note that these lists only cover reputation-based mounts, the battleground PvP mounts, and the two available class/profession mounts, as these are arguably the easiest to obtain. I'm excluding the Winterspring Frostsaber trainers from this, simply because the grind is godawful and you "only" get one mount out of it, so it's impractical for these purposes. I am also excluding the Halaa mounts, as those are also a ridiculous grind (or at least they are on my server).

As you can see, Tauren are pretty much screwed over by their size, as they NEED to obtain eight of the more difficult mounts. However, before the cows among us get too angry, keep in mind that this is the pre-LK list, so there will be more mount additions in the expansion to even the score a bit.

Really curious if this is includes warlock/paladin mounts since at least in live they're learned into your true spellbook along the lines of mage tomes rather than a bridle-style "pet" mounts.

Current plan of action for my gnome lock is:

32 alliance mounts
2 engineering copters
2 pvp mounts
2 brewfest rams
3 non-epic gryphons

and some random mix of epic gryphons, netherdrakes and netherays for the last 9.

I believe the total cost of all the mounts I have access to but wasn't actually going to buy until this comes to around 3k gold which sounds a lot for just a dragon but then to think that does include 40ish other mounts =P

Albino Drake is going to match my Ivory Raptor very nicely... now off to faction grinding!

Nice thing about this achievement is that it will force you to do others (get exalted with your faction, number of exalted factions, etc).

Bad side to this is it will fill up your Mounts window system with 60% mounts you don't want to see. Will these be moveable so one can place all slow mounts to the last page?

this will make the random macros really fun too. Cant remember where I saw it but it was a macro that would randomly select an epic mount (flying or normal depending on location) and then mount you up heh. with 50 mounts in your bag you could go all day without seeing the same one, haha

The minute I heard they lowered the goal from 75 to 50, I had to get this achievement. so I copied my gnome to the PTRs and figured out which mounts I needed.

It took:

I still have my Qiraji Battle Tank, and learned it. It counted to my mount total in the Achievement window

easier for horde. or at least gnomes (or dwarf exalted with gnomes)

as humans. elves and draeni we are robbed of the mechano striders.

we get:
13 slow mounts:(4 horse, 3 saber, 3 ram, 3 elekk) for 130g
12 swift mounts: (3 horses, sabers, rams, and elekk) for 1200g
3 slow gryphons: 300g
4 swift gryphons: 800g
8 talbuks(non token): 800g
5 netherrays: 1000g
6 nether drakes: 1000g(because one is free)

this here is 51 mounts and 5230g, to make it 50 mounts i'll take 200g out and its still 4930g.
and here i was not wanting to spend1600g for my hyppogryph.

granted theres 4 pvp mounts(horse, ram, saber, elekk) thats 120 tokens from all games(and AV sucks...) but if you want to get an extra 50 AV marks thats a 5th pvp mount, the AV ram(AV still sucks as alliance.)

so theres 56 mounts here. also for every rare mount(white strider, raven lord, phoenix etc) you can make it that much easier. still alot of cash even if you take out the 200g epic flying mounts

Can anyone find out if the old rank 11 commander rank mounts count as the same or different mounts from the ones available after the old honor system is removed?

For example, this mount was the old rank 11 mount:

ok its 50 mounts. meaning you have to learn 50. so sold mounts. mounts of different colors. a pvp mount all work.

exaxmple: spotted frost saber, striped frost saber, striped nightsaber, swift stormsaber, swift mist saber, swift frostsaber, reins of the nightsaber(discontinued), reins of the frostsaber(discontinued), Reins of the Spotted Nightsaber(discontinued), Reins of the Black War Tiger(lvl 55 epic mount)(Discontinued), Reins of the Bengal Tiger(discontinued), Reins of the Night saber(discontinued), Swift Zulian Tiger, Reins of the Swift Spectral Tiger, Reins of the Spectral Tiger, Reins of the Black War Tiger(current pvp cat)

are each learnable, that would make for 16 mounts just in sabers. you don't have to have 50 in your bag. but 50 in your book. and you can't learn a spotted frost saber twice.

adding up alliance mounts, horde mounts, rare mounts, outlands mounts and discontinued alliance/horde mounts theres 179 in existance, plus more to come with the expansion.

if i knew how to link to these sabers i would. they are all found here on wowhead

The mounts are easiest to get this way:

1. Just quest/buy yourself the reputation for the Alliance/Horde Faction (use rune cloth to max out those you are not exalted with) -> 24-30 mounts
2. Gryphons/Windriders: 7 mounts
3. Kurenai: 8 mounts
4. Netherwing: 6 mounts
5. Skyguard: 5 mounts

-> you have already over 50 mounts now, except you are Tauren. You do not need especially rare mounts or pvp mounts at all! Just do a rep grind, buy rune cloth...

And this is what you get for the achievement: Albino Drake

You should really decide if this is worth all the money, as the IMO prettier "red" and "black" versions of this model are easy to get, too (same price as the Cenarion War Hyppo, 1800 gold).

You will pay around 4840 gold for the 50 mounts needed.

They should really make it so Tauren can use all mounts. Seems unfair that a Belf can get an achievement much easier than a Tauren. Besides, mounts already scale with the character, so what's the problem?

Is anyone else slightly disappointed at the lowering of the achievement to 50 mounts, instead of 75?

I'm still twenty or so off the 75 mark, so I wouldn't have managed it easily and maybe not at all, but it would have been a real achievement when I did. With only fifty mounts required, the sky around Dalaran will be filled with "rare" fluttering albino drakes.

To Blizzard:

Isn't it about time you removed the pointless restrictions
on we Tauren who cannot ride more than half of our faction's mounts?

I never cared before (especially since I play a Druid),
but I want this Achievement, and putting us ~20 mounts behind
all other Horde players is just stupid.

Especially when you consider that we CAN ride rare drop versions:

If I can ride Kael'thas's Swift White Hawkstrider,
why can't I ride the pink/red/purple ones?

If I can ride Baron's and Attumen's
skeletal horses, why not the ones sold in Brill?

Let's bump this Achievement back up to 75, but let Tauren
play on a level field like everyone else.

I just got my Albino Drake on the PTR....I wanted to see if it was there!

As a human pally, exalted with all major cities, I used:

6 Darnassus (264g)
6 Exodar (264g)
6 Ironforge (264g)
6 Stormwind (264g)
2 Pally (bonus!)
1 PvP ( I happened to have anyway - 30WSG+30AB+30AV)
1 Alterac Vallery Ram (50AV - got to get rid of those tokens somehow!)
7 Gryphons (1100g)
8 Kurenai (exalted - 680g)
5 Skyguard (exalted - 1000g)
2 Netherdrake (exalted - 1st is free but 200g otherwise - for non-pally classes you will need 4, or with no PvP mounts all 6 - buy from guy on Netherwing Ledge)

Given the mounts I already had, it cost me 3,736g. You can do this if you have faction rep and don't want to PvP for around 4,000g.

In addition you could get more from (excluding rare drops):

7 Gnomeragan Exiles (only gnomes/dwarves)
2 Engineering
4 PvP
6 Netherdrakes
1 Cenarion Expedition (exalted)

So, in total I could really only have gotten 58 (56 if I wasn't a pally) without transforming into a gnome or being an engineer (even then only 67)...how you were supposed to get 75, like it was originally, I just don't know!

Okay, as a 70 Human Mage with all the needed rep, that means Talbuk, Drake, Skyguard, and Alliance Rep, I hit 50 quite easy.

The only rare mounts I have are the Wintersaber, Hippogryph, and the Zhevra, as I have never dabbled in Engineering.

But even still I only have one of the three 60% Speed Gryphons and I'm still missing one of the Drakes. So even if I did not have my 3 'rare' mounts, I'd still hit 50 with no problem.

Basically, you just need the rep grinds out of the way, and a bit under 5000g, not a small feat by any definition of the word, but still easier than farming a handful of the truly rare mounts...

Ashek, you never have to spend more than probabaly more than 3500g, unless you have a tauren, or already have the rep grinded, plus you never have to farm any mounts, any the rep you have is your factions, and mag'har, AND you can grind your factions rep while you are getting your 200 marks. Now that I have said that, could anyone link me all of the new mounts Mei Francis sells?

Just an observation, but not only do Tauren labor under a significant (and purely arbitrary) disadvantage, but Humans have the advantage of a racial that makes it much easier to exalted with all Alliance factions.
Some of the at-release WoW decisions made over four years ago are having interesting impacts on Achievement difficulty balance now.
I’ll also note as an engineer that since the basic flying machine was in the materials list of the epic version, I “lost” a mount along the way - unless the change in WotLK is retroactive...

Nice drake, but methinks I’ll save this Achievement for post-level-80 (if at all).
My main is a tailor and an engineer, so the flying carpets and the mechano-hog will add to my mount totals (I’m a packrat who held onto every mount I’ve ever earned), and ATM I just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of time to grind to exalted, and gold on essentially a vanity mount that’s not even a new model, but appears to be a white version of Netherdrake (when I can buy fast flying for my alt instead).

But that’s just me. GL to all who go for this one!

Here I sit. 3:23 est. I grinded for a week. I did all of my dailies... I broke guild record for exalted with Netherwing, 7 days. I turned in countless eggs, decimated countless daily quests. I barrowed a friend's account, did the dailies on all of his toons. Earned countless fortunes, became exalted amongst many... I have forsaken my friends, my family, and my fiancee for a week of heavy grind. I went to bed and I saw netherwing eggs in my sleep.

I claimed 2900 gold. I sighed in joy... I had gotten enough- Last Monday. October 6th, I decided to buy my mounts in preparation for the patch coming out early. My goal was/is server first.

I bought the Talbuks from Mag'har first. I still had a chance to go back. I have an alt who needs epic flying. But when I traveled to Silvermoon and bought the Hawkstriders, then I realized it was too late to go back. Traveling across Azeroth I bought the mounts of my faction and unknowingly achieved the title Ambassador.

Then it was to Shadowmoon valley... I bought the cheap windriders, the drakes, and counted... 49! 49! I was short! Draining all of my characters I gathered 200 extra gold, and bought the last mount...

Now, "Ambassador" Dreamchaser sits in Shattrath, by a mailbox, waiting for the servers to come up. 3100g, Countless hours, and the time is here. The anticipation is killing me. Madoran will see its first Albino Drake as soon as servers go up.

But for now I wait... 90 minutes and counting. Blizzard can't lie to me- it would break my heart. Here I sit and wait.

My goal will be realized...

Wearing my Wedding Dress , White Bandit Mask, Skybreaker Whip, Riding Crop and Recruit's Boots with Mithril Spurs . (Yes I know they don't stack.)

I will sit in Shattrath, Proud of my accomplishment. But now, I just have to wait in bittersweet torture.

EDIT: And as soon as they went up, 4:57 pm, October 14th. I got the drake. Madoran Server first.

Sorry if this comment has been left above me, but I needed to point out to all of you who say "two engineering craftable mounts" - You cannot learn both of them. Someone w/in my guild complained on Patch Day that he couldn't get one of the achievements that day, having counted on using the Blue and Epic machine controls as 2. I reckon the error text is something like, "You already know a more powerful spell" or some such crap.

Its also worth noting that if you add the mounts to your log book and it doesn't appear on your achievements list(like adding the same kind of mount, just a different colour one), you need to just relog and it will update.

Don't know if this happens to others but it does to me, was freaked out for a sec.

Just got this done as a human. Only rare mount I have is the karazhan horse. I bought:

All rams, horses, tigers, and elephants.

All kurenai talbuks.

All nether rays.

All netherdrakes.

All griphons and I think that makes 50.

As a gnome or dwarf this shouldn't be that hard to get, add the mechanostriders instead of some netherdrakes or epic griphons (which cost 200g each, no exalted discount =( )

Otherwise wasn't that hard to get, reactivated my account yesterday and had ~7-8 mounts, just gotta have some gold to spend and some will. The albino drake is cool too, way better than the netherwing drakes (looks less cartoonish).

i will give some advices to those like me who want to get this very nice mount:

-Try to reach exalted with Horde/alliance Factions : This is maybe the hardest part of this achievement,considering when you leveled up. For old players, you may only be honored with most of the factions,even your native one.It will anyways take time: first go to alterac valley and start taking back bloods/orbs/insigna/flesh to the related NPC.
This will greatly increase your Ironforge/Orgrimmar reputation,and slower the other ones. Keep in mind that for example the blood/orbs quest gives about 19reputation for every city other than Orgrimmar and Ironforge,which means about 80 per stack of five bloods.You will need 110 mark of honor of alterac valley to get the two expected PVP mounts and the frostwolf howler.
Once you are exalted with about 2 factions,you should start doing some low lv quests.This should give you the reputation you need to reach the Ambassador Rank.

At this point you now have 29 mounts.The longest part is over.

now reach exalted with the mag'har/kurenai and buy 8 talbuks. ==> 37
Get two pvp mounts and 1 frostwolf howler ==> 40
Take a tank (warrior or druid,less preferably a paladin,avoid the mana classes,if you're a tank you can solo it) and go to the Anh'qiraj Temple, farm the obsidian eradicators until you get 3 AQ battle tank (the red one is too rare so don't wait for it). You can reach 3 of them without aggroing the 4 anubis,they have a 30mn respawn,and a 10% drop rate of every mount. Good luck => 43
Buy the 7 flying mounts ==> 50

2x pally mounts
all alliance faction mounts (25 mounts total)
2 mounts from AQ40 (blue and yellow)
Swift Brewfest Ram
Cenarion War hippogryph (bought this one long time ago :D)
2x PvP mounts (saber one and AV ram)
8x Talbuks from Kurenai
7x Gryphons

And that gave me a total of 50 mounts and then i got my lovely Albino drake :D picture inc soon.

Blizz is racist. My main is a Tauren and I am displeased that we get screwed so badly. I, too, believed that Tauren could ride raptors (can ride the PvP one after all). Unless we have immense amounts of gold to buy all of the flyers, costing from 100g each to the big CE flyer. Above is the post listing Tauren mounts, the brooms do not count and as far as I know, you can still only learn 1 drake at a time by switching. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Unless we have an extreme amount of cash, certain professions, luck, and PvP talent better than 99% of the rest, then we can not get the achievement and the Albino.

I hope a change will be made for us, and I have faith in Blizz that they will.

Offnote: I am curious to know the true purpose of the achievement system overall anyway. It cant be just to get the most points, there has to be a reward system of some kind (other that titles from specific ones).

70 NE Hunter. Easiest and quickest way IMO for alliance (easier for gnome or dwarf).

This short guide assumes you already have 300 riding skill. If you don't, wait the 6 days for the release of the xpac since they're lowering the price from 5000g to 2500g.

Getting exalted with Exodar, Darnassus, Ironforge, and Stormwind is not as hard as you might think, and doing so can kill three birds with one stone. Simply put, do AV a lot. You'll be gaining honor, which you can use to buy better gear. Loot corpses and turn in that loot to the NPCs in AV. Gives rep for all 5 major factions. Finally, no matter if you win or lose, you'll get AV marks which you'll need 120 of to help buy the 4 PvP mounts you'll need. You'll need 120 of each of the 3 original battleground marks. Shouldn't take TOO long, but it is a bit of a grind.

Runecloth is also a way to gain rep, though it's only 75 rep per turn in. If you're 70 and well geared, you and a friend can 2-man Scholo, Strat, BRD, and LBRS, where a TON of runecloth drops. Just find the cloth quartermaster in the city in which you want to gain faction with.

Ok, so that's it for the classic mounts:

Stormwind - 7 - 272g
Ironforge - 6 - 264g
Darnassus - 6 - 264g
Exodar - 6 - 264g
PvP - 4 - 120 AV, 120 AB, 120 WSG marks

Total so far - 29 mounts, 1064g and a crapload of marks.

(Don't even need the Stormpike Battle Charger, but if you have excess AV marks go for it.)

Now for Outland:

The 7 gryphons are a no brainer. Now comes not the hardest, but the most boring and frustrating part. The 8 Talbuks that can be bought from the Kurenai when you reach exalted. This is one helluva grind. Not only do the warbeads not drop as often as you would like, but the areas that have the ogres that drop them are heavily farmed by your fellow gamers, so it'll be frustrating to find an area where no one else is. There are 4 main places I went to farm.

Burning Blade Ruins
Laughing Skull Ruins
A little cave area just west of Halaa (forget the name)
and a blood orc village off the main western road (no beads drop there, though).

It took a long time, but I got lots of cool green and some blue drops and each ogre drops 7-20 silver, so that will help fund your mount purchases.

Finally, you're going to have to choose between the Netherwing or Sha'tari Skyguard dailies to get to exalted with them. I chose Sha'tari because IMO it's a LOT easier than the Netherwing dailies, and the Nether Rays are cuter.

So, we had 29 from Vanilla WoW.

Gryphons - 7 - 1100g
Talbuks - 8 - 680g
Netherdrakes or Nether Rays - 6 - 640g

So now your total is 50 mounts, 120 AV marks, 120 AB marks, 120 WSG marks, and 3484g.

If you can save up enough gold to buy the 300 riding skill for 5000, then this should be no problem for you. Happy hunting.

70 Tauren Warrior. I was able to complete this a week or so ago. Certainly a lot rougher, but it was doable.

the AQ40 bug mounts DO count. However, unless your realm has yet to open the AQ gates then the black mount will be unavailable since it was only awarded to people who completed the gate opening quest line within 10 minutes of the gates being opened.

Wow, thanks for warning me, I wasn't aware Tauren were going to be royally ****ed by Blizzard on this, to think I had my sights set on this mount, I didn't even know they were literally unavailable now due to Blizzard's inane size restriction(which of course doesn't apply to rare and some PvP mounts).

I expect this will be changed in the future, or they'll just ignore us as they have for the past four years.

In the next patch there will be added a new achivment were the objective is to learn 100mounts. The achivment will be rewarded with a mount that looks just like a dragonhawk(http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=23834) in the colors blue or red. I don't know how many Achivment Points the achivment will be rewarded with.

As of patch 3.0.8, a new achievement will be released - Mountain of Mounts. This requires one to get 100 mounts and the reward from this will be either a Red or Blue Dragonhawk (Like the ones outside Silvermoon City).

Taurens and non-Dwarven/Gnomish allies fret not! Taurens will be able to ride every mount available to Horde and the race limit will be removed from the Mechanostriders (lol Draenei).

You will have to get the Ambassador title while you are at it, as well as Skettis, Netherwing and Kurenai/Mag'har exalted too. You may skip past one of these if you get ALL the TCG mounts, but I doubt that. You will have to farm for at least half of the random drop mounts such as Baron Rivendare's mount or the Swift Zulian Tiger from Zul'Gurub. However the drop rates for these have been buffed.

This will truly be an achievement for the dedicated. Good luck to all and start collecting now!

Half of the Mag'har mounts are "Riding" ve rs io ns which only cost 56g after the discount. Only the "War" ve rs io ns cost 80g. This total should be 544g, bringing the grand total to 6,284g.

It seems like the easiest way to achieve this is as follows:

29 Regular Faction Mounts
1 frostwolf howler/stormpike ram
5 faction style PVP mounts
8 Mag'har or Ally Equivalent
7 Windriders/ gryphons

None of these are particularly hard to get, it just requires gold, pvping, runecloth, and some outland grinding.

For those who've spent hours, days or even weeks farming rare mounts - I'd like to share with you that yesterday I started collecting mounts. My first stop was Karazhan, where Fiery Warhorse's Reins dropped first time and I won it on a roll. Tonight I went to Stratholme to start farming for a Deathcharger's Reins drop. Low and behold it drops first time. I paid my guide (i didn't know how to get to the baron) 100g to let me take it and here I am with 2 lovely rare mounts in just 24 hours.
Total time spent on farming - about an hour.
Moral of the story: Miracles do happen! (and I'm a lucky sonofab***h)

Got this mount today, though I didn't intend to.

Managed to get all the mounts from city reputation, and had loads of mounts from other places. Noticed that I only needed 5 more to get the drake so decided to spend all night grinding rep for The Mag'har and get the talbuk mounts.

Takes a lot of time, effort and gold, but it's worth it in the end. Not many people have it on my realm so people tend to stop and stare :)

For wotlk, you can add 4 exotic mounts, one black war bear, also 4 additional mammoths+ 5 proto drakes. Also bronze drake, and red drake. in addition for sartharion; black and twilight drake.. and malygos also drops 2 hc/norm, and here we got 20 additional mounts..

In patch 3.1, there will be many more mounts added with the Argent Tournament and they are making 3 more regular Horde mounts to even out the number, because Alliance vendors sell more. It looks as if there will be an aquatic mount too.

Getting all of theese mounts isnt the cheapest way to get this achievment, its probably one of the most expensive ways, I would recommend getting all of the PvP mounts (Black War.. ) and if possible the mounts from the various dungeon/raid achievments (Red-, Black- and Plagued Proto-Drake).

The letter Mei sends reads:

As mounts become available at earlier levels in 3.2, so too will their prices drop. If you are considering going for this achievement, waiting until path 3.2 drops will save you a fair amount of money.

I've noticed that nobody mentioned the White Polar Bear mount in their lists. This is a rare drop from the Hyldnir Spoils bag you receive for completing dailies in Brunnhildir Village in Storm Peaks.

Lucky us next patch we can get all the 60% mounts for 1g each and the 100% mounts for only 50g after that you dont have to do much more to get the 50 mount achviment but the 100 mounts is a whole other story easisly costing at least 20k gold to get 100 mounts probley a 2 or 3k gold for the 50 mount both of which i think fly at the same speed but the dragonhawk looks 10X cooler

To obtain an Albino Drake you will need to collect 50 mounts (Leading the Cavalry).

I currently have 48 mounts and do not have Artisan riding skill (300). I could easily get 2 mounts long before I could get the ~5000g.

If I get this achievement before I have Artisan riding will the drake be sent to me?

6 Elekks - My racial mounts
3 Regular speed gryphons - Alliance normal flyers
6 SW horses - Getting exalted with SW at 80 doing all the human starting quests
7 Darnassus Tigers - Did quests from Teldrassis to Astranaar (Skipped most of Darkshore)
1 Black war ram - From pvp, 30 WSG, AV, AB marks
1 Bronze Drake - Culling of stratholme finally getting my epic flyer and the ability to ride it.
1 Grand Black War Mammoth - Vault of Archavon 25 man, group wasn't nice to me so this sweet mount came to me.
6 Netherwing Drakes - 9-10 days worth of dailies. You're doing good if you find 4 or more eggs a day.
1 Black war mammoth - 300 stone keeper's shards, it will come to you.
6 Iron Forge rams - Half way exalted by doing quests till 80. Finished last half questing in Dun Morogh to Loch Modan
1 Red Drake - Spent about 50 emblems of triumphs to get from friendly to exalted with Wyrmest. Costs 1600g
1 Black War bear - Came before Darnassus Tigers...oh well. Find 35 or so other people to kill enemy city bosses.
1 Black Stallion - Doesn't come with SW horses. Buy this mount at Menethil Harbor. Not epic, it goes 60%
7 Gnome Mechano Striders - Did Champion Dailies for the Gnomes from early revered to exalted. 5 days I think.
2 Alliance epic flyers - Exactly 50 mounts. Cost 200g but I pretended that 200g was for the Albino Drake.

Now here are mounts for both Alliance and Horde

Dungeon/Raid obtained mounts
-Swift Razzashi Raptor - Obtained from Bloodlord Mandokir from level 60 raid Zul Gurub. I'd give this a solid 9/10 as an alliance that can get a raptor!

-Swift Zulian Tiger - Obtained from High Priest Thekal from level 60 raid Zul Gurub. This deserves and 8/10. I don't see a lot of these around that much and it's really rare. It's model is the same as an Epic Night Elf mount but body's orange and has black stripes along with the armor.

-(Color) Qiraji Resonating Crystal - Almost commonly dropped by trash mobs in level 60 raid Temple of Ahn Qiraj. But that's the only place where you can use these mounts. 5/10, due to the fact we can't take it out of Ahn Qiraj

-Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal- No longer obtainable. Only one lucky person in each server has this and I think it's the only legendary mount there is. Yes, it can be taken out of Ahn Qiraj. This mount deserves a 10/10. Is it obtainable when opening the gates of ahn qiraj in new servers?

-Death Charger's Reins - The famous Baron Rivendare's mount. Drops from Stratholme last boss. 7/10, from alliance point of view, we can have an undead's epic ground mount.

-Fiery Warhorse's reins - Obtained from first boss in 10 man level 70 raid Karazhan. I'd rate this mount 8/10. Warlock like epic ground mount but it's hooves have a green fire glow.

-Ashes of A'lar - Obtained from the final boss in 25 man level 70 raid Tempest Keep. A good 9/10, this mounts too bright. Phoenix flying mount.

-Amani War Bear - No longer obtainable suckers! But from 10 man level 70 raid Zul Aman. 10/10 worthy, best looking bear mount and no longer available.

-Bronze Drake - Obtainable when you run heroic culling of stratholme in less than 30 mins. The look is pretty good but other than that, it's very very common so I give it a 4/10.

-Mimiron's Head - Never seen this mount ever. It's very rare and respectable. Even the opposing faction's gonna be targeting you like never before. From the pics it looks awesome so I'd go with 10/10

-Grand Black War Mammoth - Proud owner of this mount. Dropped from 25 man Vault of Archavon. It can carry 2 passengers and has a nice nice look. I'll give this mount a 9/10

-Swift White Hawkstrider - A white colored version of the epic blood elf ground mount. Drops from heroic Magister's Terrace, last boss. I'd personally give it a 6/10

-Great Brewfest Kodo - Drops from seasonal brewfest boss. An awesome mount to have as an alliance. 8/10

-Great Brewfest Ram - Same as last mount. 7/10

Others obtainable by both factions.
Netherwing Drakes(6) - Favorite color's violet. Also my favorite flyer. I still get compliments from these drakes. Dailies can be accessed by doing a quest chain in Shadowmoon valley (Hint: Zuluhes the Whacked). I'll rate these mounts a good 8/10 because I don't see them every time. It's always bronze drakes.

Red Drake - Earn Exalted with Wyrmest Accord and have your 1600g ready. It's same model as the bronze drake but red. But due to it's somewhat rareness, it's a nice 7/10. I recommend buying wyrmest accord commedation badges with your triumphs. Gives 520 rep per badge. Plus what's triumph gear gonna do when cataclysm comes out? And when it does, you're not gonna find much groups to run wotlk heroics with.

Nether Rays(6) - Earn Exalted with the Shatari skyguard and have 1200g to buy all 6 rays.

Black War Mammnoth - 300 stone keeper's shards. Who doesn't have this? 6/10

Traveler's Tundra Mammoth - I've ridden something similar to this which is the Grand Black war mammoth. It's not worth the 20k unless you got nothing else to buy. It's pretty rare and unique. 10/10

Wooly Mammoth - 300 emblems of heroism. What I'm gonna do here is...turn my left over conquests and valor to heroisms. After I hit exalted with sons of hodir and have no use for triumphs, I'll really start working on this. I won't ride this mount much but good to have it. I'll rate this thing a 6/10

Armored Brown Bear - Everyone who is done with this achievement, everyone who has learned how to ride epic flyers should have 700g to burn for this! Nice color is all I can give this. 7/10

Black War Bear - Every time a faction raids all of the enemy cities, another set of 35-40 people get this mount. It's very common so I'd give it a 7/10. It's common, I didn't say it wasn't cool.

Argent Hippogryph - Come on. Why spend 150 seals on one mount when you'd have 3 unique faction ones? Your choice, this thing looks pretty good but big characters, stay away from it. 8/10

Cenarion War Hippogryph - Obtainable when exalted with Cenarion Expedition. Damn nice looking mount and I am working on getting exalted. Personally I'd give it a 9/10.

Reins of the Ice Mammoth - Hit exalted with Sons of Hodir for this nice mount. Even though it can't give rides, it tops wooly mammoth and black war mammoth. 8/10

Reins of the Grand Icy Mammoth - same as last mount, Gives rides and cost 10,000g. Solid 9/10 but I already got a mount like this =D

Big Battle Bear - Nice looking bear. I'm thinking about buying the card in ebay to get this mount. 70 bucks worth it? Rate 8/10

Spectral Tiger - WoW TCG prize. I don't know if I should buy the bear or this. 8/10

Riding Turtle - Wow. 7/10

Get to exalted with all alliance factions, and buy all of their mounts. (there's a black horse only available from menethil harbour) Then buy every single flying mount from honour hold. You can significantly lower this cost by being at a higher reputation with honour hold (up to 20% off at exalted).
Then grind to exalted with the Kurenai and buy all 8 of their talbuks. Should be one mount away from your proto drake. What i did was stick myself in the battleground queue while Kurenai grinding to help lighten the mood. Just 50k honour for an alliance battlemount. At 70 i usually earn 1-2k honour per BG, so this wont take long.

Ok, I know theirs alot of comments on this pretty drake, and I want to let you all know that if you apply to the following:
-Level 80
-At least 1 faction champion
-have epic flying
-have at least one unique mount (ex:winterspring frostsaber, ZG mount, etc.)
This should not be difficult at ALL to acheve, that is if you have the gold. The first thing you need to do is have exalted with all major city factions (Stormwind, Ironforge, Exodar, Darnassus) and buy all their mounts. This means 60%s too. Including the Black Stallion for Stormwind.

THEN, GET EXALTED WITH KURENAI. Buy all their mounts, and hopefully this far in the game you have the Black War Bear. And, if you have ALL the vendor flyers, these simple things will get you pretty far. Also you can trade in 300 Stone Keepers Shards for a Black War Mammoth. Now, to get exalted with all factions, I suggest doing all the starting zone quests and being and doing their Argent Tournament Valiant steps. To get exalted with Kurenai, do ALL THE QUESTS FOR CORKI. Its fast for an 80, assuming you have 280% flying. After that, while in Nagrand go to 49, 56 and kill all the ogres in there. The best thing about this area is the lightning fast respawn rate, so you can clear the cave, go outside, kill the outside adds, and by that time they'll be back again. They will give you Obsidian Beads, which can be turned in to Warden Moi'Bff Jill (reference to commercial, omg moi bff jill) 10 at a time for 500 reputation, or 550 if you are a human. Continue grinding the ogres till your bags are full, go back to Telenarr, repair and turn them in. Rinse and repeat. If you read the comments, this is histarically simple, (40% to revered to exalted in about 3 hours). I hope this helps, besides a bunch of people listing what mounts they have.(##RESPBREAK##)2056##DELIM##adashiel##DELIM##Note: Stone Keeper Shards no longer exist, so the Black War Mammoth requires Honor to buy.

I got this tonight on my character that I'd leveled in late Wrath, with relatively little content that'll be hard to find for players leveling in Cataclysm, and no grinding for honor or rep (except the dungeons that I would have done for points anyway). It cost about 6k gold (I already had master riding), 2175 justice points and no other currencies. My mounts were:

All the racial mounts from Orgrimmar, Darkspear Trolls, Undercity and Thunder Bluff.
All the ones sold by Mei Francis in Dalaran, except the 16k mammoth.

I managed it today through some judicious reputation grinding, some luck, and some cashy money.

Alliance mounts -- all five races, everything they had, plus the exalted status gave me the Ambassador title
All of the gryphons
Two engineering flying machines
One celestial steed (purchased from Blizzard for $25, but kind of worth it since it applies to all characters on an account, now and forever)
One gray camel (this was my purely lucky find down in Uldum)
One abyssal seahorse from Vashj'ir
Five Shatari Skyguard Nether Rays (rep grinding for this is actually pretty easy)

Note: I didn't buy any of the expensive mounts in Dalaran.

The albino drake is definitely a nice ride. I was thinking about working on the Netherwings... but other than casually, it's too much of a flat out long-term grind for my taste.

@Chrysstal The quest objective is the same except for 2 things...

The Alliance receives 冬泉霜刃豹韁繩 and we have to do our 20 dailys in Winterspring.

The Horde receives 毒皮暴掠龍之哨 and they have to do the 20 dailys in Un'Goro Crater and Tanaris.

Personally I love these mounts because they're one of the few mounts you cannot just buy.

if you get your reputation to exalted with each faction, you can buy the 60% and 100% mounts to go with your collection.
60%=1g each
100%=10g each
This should add alot to your collection and in my opinion the albino drake is pretty sweet, so if you don't mind putting in a little gold/time, this shouldn't take long to get :D

Just got it on my 70 twink,with all rep mounts execpt Silvermoon,with Halaa one mount,Mag'Thar rep,pala mounts Engi mounts and from Wyrmest Accord rep,you can get it with some honor changed to Jp and buy rep items from Dala vendor.
It seems very easy achi this day,also 100 mounts can be on a 70 but you have to get all rares mounts alll Honor mounts and all rep.You will need too some of HC dugeon bag like Green Proto Drake.

talked to a GM today, because my achievement is bugged. I have 50 mounts, but the achievement says that I only have 48. Apparently, the paladin and abyssal seahorse mounts are bugged and currently not showing up on the tracker. The devs are "looking into it" and I was advised to "obtain alternate mounts" untill the issue is resolved.

Kinda sucks.....

http://www.warcraftmounts.com/ is a good place to keep tabs on what you have. It's a pain to enter them all in manually if you already have quite a few, but the list is fairly easy to read with one line on the website being 2 lines ingame.

It's also good to see what new mounts have been implemented, if any :)

Tip: If you are missing 8 or less mounts from the achievement, you better get the Mag'har reputation to Exalted, even if you're neutral. Do all the Mag'har rep quests in Nagrand and then farm for Obsidian Warbeads (about 200 total was enough for a non-human with 5% extra from guild). It will only take a maximum of 2 hours!

This is very easy to do achievement. All what you need is to have exalted at all your home cities.

After it just buy mounts from him (cca 6-7 per city).

Post patch 5.0 the reigns to the albino drake are no longer mailed to players but instead are automatically added to the players mount journal.

Several people have been reporting getting their mount achievements when they don't seem to have enough mounts (e.g. 48, 97, 145 or whatever). I think the reason for this as follows:

I have noticed that if you have the DK/Warlock/Pally only mounts on one character, although you can't see it on other classes it still counts towards mount achievements (check in statistics on the ach tab for mount total). Therefore if you have a warlock, paladin and DK with their 7 exclusive mounts then you will hit the 50 mount ach when you have 43 other mounts etc.

This DOESN'T work for racial mounts you have on the opposing faction but may count the Paladin elekks/kodos if you have both a human/dwarf/blood elf paladin and a Draenei/Tauren paladin of the same faction.

To clarify how this achievement works, here is a blue post from support Forum Agent Sylnaxas, posted on the Customer Support Forums::

The overall total mount listing will count Alliance and Horde specific mounts into your over-all count in the Mounts Tab which will make the number significantly higher if you are active on both sides. Additionally, mounts that require a specific class (paladin, death knight, warlock) or a specific profession (tailoring rugs and the like) also will count in the Mount Tab, but if your character can't use it, it will not count towards the achievement.

In addition, if you have the achievement for 酋長的死亡之輪, (meaning that you logged into WoW during the period of 24 July 2014 to 30 Sept 2014) then your Horde Characters will have one additional mount, the 酋長的死亡之輪.

Thus, be sure to check the achievement progress on the character that can ride the most mounts on your account.

This achievement chain is going to 250 mounts, and you are rewarded through the achievements with 7 mounts (3 shared, and 2 for each faction)

They count mounts on the character, so when you are alliance, it does not count in the horde mounts. Same with class specific mounts or not counted on other classes.
The journal with mounts which shows you your total mounts, are therefore not an indication on how far you are on this achievement.

If you had like me 54 mounts but still didn't get the achievement: I switched from Alliance to Horde with my character. That way I have Alliance mounts, that are 'greyed out'. It turned out I needed 50 Horde characters, the Aliance ones didn't count for the achievement.

I was looking over my list of mounts and saw that I had 215 mounts, yet I dis not have 坐騎大遊行/坐騎大遊行 so I put in a ticket to find out why and now I am sharing it with everyone in case they run into the same problem. Here is the response:

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion when it comes to the Mount Collection Achievements so I wanted to cover that with ya really quick =D

There's always a bit of confusion on those achievements, so don't feel bad here. It's a bit tricky to try to explain as well. =P

The achievement for the mounts counts each character's mounts separately, which is why if you've got a Warlock, Death Knight or Paladin, they'll have the extra mounts available specifically for their class.

There is also a difference between what the list shows and what the achievement counts. The list will count the total number of alliance and horde mounts together, but the achievement will only count what the character has available to them. That means the achievement will only count the mounts of that particular character's faction, which is different than what the mount list will show, if that makes sense.

So it boils down to one of your characters having over 200 mounts in the list, but less than 200 are available for them to use, so it won't count the achievement just yet. =/

The total for these achievements is to reach X mounts on one character, not account wide (X being 50 for Leading the Cavalry, 100 for Mountain of Mounts, etc). Horde mounts will not show up in the mount list for Alliance toons, and vice-versa.

This is also the reason that it's a good idea to use a Death Knight, Paladin or a Warlock to track this achievement. They will have all the mounts available to that faction, as well as their two specific class mounts. Those 2 mounts do not show up on other classes mount list, making it so that your Pally or Lock will always have more mounts than your Rogue or Mage (etc.).

To get the achievement progress to update, just log into your Pally or Lock and open up your mount list, then check your progress and it should reflect any and all mounts you've gotten thus far.

Profession specific mounts WILL show up on toons that do not have the profession, even though it will not let you mount them, so obtaining them on an alt with that profession, then logging on your Pally or Lock will add those into your total number of mounts.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion that there might have been regarding these achievements! If there is anything else we can do to make sure you have an excellent time in Azeroth, Sanctuary and beyond, let us know. :)

While there are many comments and threads about mount collecting achievements, I would like to make clear a few things since they are still debatable.

As of patch 8.1 there is a chain of 10 achievements starting by collecting 10 mounts to the last one which is gained by collecting 400 mounts
Note that currently there are 497 obtainable mounts (that can count toward the achievement counter (or as blizzard says: 'Usable by a single character' but this is not a true statement as we will see below)

Just for reference these achievements are listed below:

Before we begin, lets make clear that the number that appears in your collection tab is not the one that matters for the achievement because this number represents the total number of mounts you own on YOUR ACCOUNT
There are many mounts (mostly main cities/racial mounts) that have a counterpart in the opposite faction.
For example if you obtain the 冬泉霜刃豹韁繩 in an alliance toon you will automatically obtain 毒皮暴掠龍之哨 in your horde toons
That means that in your collection tab will be added 2 mounts but actually in your achievement tracker will be added 1 mount (since a specific character can use 1 additional mount, not 2).

First of all, all mounts are acount-wide except 瓦許伊爾海馬 but some of them are not counting on all of your toons
Below I will list the mounts that can confuse you since some of them are counting on all of your toons but some of them aren't

CONTROVERSIAL MOUNTS

-PROFESSION MOUNTS
There are some profession mounts that can craft/learn/ride only while you own a specific profession BUT ONCE YOU LEARN THEM THEY ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS. That mean that it doesnt mater if you learn them in you main/alt and you can even delete this profession once you learn these mounts.
These mounts are:
Tailoring: 飛毯 , 莊嚴飛毯 , 寒霜飛毯 , 爬行飛毯
Leatherworking: 騎乘鞍座 , 領角鹿騎乘鞍座

-LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS
ALL LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM NO MATTER IF THEY CAN USE THEM
That means that every new class hall mount that you learn in a new class (using your alts) is counting as a '+1' in your achievement.
You have a potential of +21 Mounts (toward the achievement) if you collect each one of the class hall mounts (pretty challenging tbh)

Warlock: 虛空領主混沌憤怒戰馬 , 虛空領主厄運憤怒戰馬 and 虛空領主硫磺憤怒戰馬

-CLASS MOUNTS ***NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS***
SOME CLASS MOUNTS ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM NO MATTER IF THEY CAN USE THEM BUT THERE ARE SOME OF THEM THAT AREN'T)
Below I will list/show you which are these mounts and how they are working:

MOUNTS THAT ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM
Warlock: 惡魔戰馬 , 恐懼戰馬
Death Knight: 亞榭洛死亡戰騎
Paladin: 銀白戰騎 (This can be bought in cost of 100 勇士徽印 )

MOUNTS THAT ARE ***NOT*** COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS
Paladin: 召喚主教的伊萊克 , 召喚大主教伊萊克
Demon Hunter: 魔刃豹
Vashj'Ir: 瓦許伊爾海馬

As we can see, Paladins got 2 mounts that are counting only on them while Demon Hunter's got only 1
That makes Paladins the holders of the highest possible number in the game.
Theorytically speaking, you dont even need Demon Hunter's 魔刃豹 as you can see.

-VASHJ'IR MOUNT ***NOT ACCOUNT WIDE***
瓦許伊爾海馬
THIS MOUNT NEED TO BE OBTAINED ON EACH TOON INDIVIDUALLY.
Its CRUSIAL to obtain this mount on your PALADIN in order to get the highest possible number because if you don't, your paladin will got 1 less mount than the higher possible number.
In order to Obtain this mount you need to complete a short questline starting with 決勝時刻 and ending with 深淵坐騎
If the starting quest is not available for you, make sure to complete the attunement quests of Broken Isles / Argus / Kul TIras or Zandalar, then the quest will be available for you.

Keep in mind that the achievement tracker counts each time you log in with a toon.
For example if you log in with your Paladin and your Paladin got the highest number of mounts (lets say: 382), then when you log in in your main the counter will still say '382', even if you get one more mount the tracker will not change but the next time you will log in with your paladin the tracker will say '383'
You can check each toon's mounts in Achievements tab -> Statistics -> Character -> Mounts Owned

-HOW TO GET THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE NUMBERS OF MOUNTS
-Have a Paladin and level him at least to level 80 (that will grants you the 召喚主教的伊萊克 , 召喚大主教伊萊克 and gives you the accessibility to obtain the 瓦許伊爾海馬
-Get 瓦許伊爾海馬 on your Paladin
-Learn Leatherworking and Tailoring and Create/Learn the 6 mounts we mentioned above (after you learn them you are free to delete your profession or whatever you want)
-Have a Warlock at level 40 ( at level 40 you have learned both 惡魔戰馬 and 恐懼戰馬 )
-Have a Death Knight (no matter what level your DK will be, you only need his 亞榭洛死亡戰騎 )
*Dont forget 銀白戰騎 that can be obtained only by Paladin but I scarcely listed it here since we can consider it as a normal mount

At this Point your Paladin will be +2 mounts that anyother toon (if this toon got 瓦許伊爾海馬 ) otherwise will be +3.
You dont have to log in to your Paladin everytime you obtain a new mount, Just make sure to do it when you are 2-3 mounts away from an achievement
