New in patch 2.3, this is an epic flying mount which costs 2000g (1600g with the exalted discount) and requires you to have trained the ability to fly at an epic pace.

This mount is available to both horde and alliance. Like the Brewfest Ram, the availability to horde has caused some backlash from alliance players and roleplayers alike.

Prior to this hippogryphs have served as the primary flying public transport mount between cities controlled by the night elves. The exalted cenarion mount comes in original flavour only. It's grounded animation is the same as it's flying animation, much like the skyguard netherray.

You need 5,000 gold to get the epic riding skill. Then on top of that you need 2,000 gold (maybe 1,600) plus exalted status with Cenarion Expedition, correct?

I was hoping that the 2,000 plus being exalted would get me the mount. Thus saving me 3,000 gold over an epic gryphon mount.... but from what I'm reading it will actually cost more.

Im exalted with Netherwing, so I have my drake, exalted with Sha'tari Skyguard, so I can buy a ray whenever I want, and ofc I already have a gryphon. 2000 g for another mount is just silly, any speculations why it was made so expensive?

Beh, 1600 gold, that's two weeks of doing your dailies. In other words, a cakewalk.

If you have done the 5K grind already, and can do the Netherdrake dailies, making 1K a week is easily made in <2 hours a day.

The thing is, people tend to spend their easily-earned cash on other things, like having their craftable epics made, snatching world-epics from the AH, buying reagents for their pots, and all that. Getting that extra 1600 isn't hard at all, but people spend it on more epics and reagents. ^^

Once you're at Honored, yes, Slave Pens and Underbog stop giving rep on normal. However, with the change to heroics, you can start doing those on heroic mode, and still obtain rep. It's not quite as bad as it's made out to be.

Honored to Exalted is quite simple nothing crazy involved.

Do every quest for them outside the instances, turn in all the arnament you can get, run the daily heroic and non-heroic daily (run it on heroic though) when it is in underbog, slave pens, or steam vaults. You get all the rep for the clear and 250 rep for completing the daily.

The major quest hubs for CE are in: Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, Terrokar forest, Blades edge mountains.

Well not really, and in my option, no, it isn't at all, since 10 spell damage is kind of worthless. However, since this enchant actually has a use, then yes, it is justifiable.

I'm gonna have to so no again, because the Price to slot ratio for each bag is very vast. However, again, this bag does actually does have a use, and I have about 4 primal mooncloth bags on my character. I didn't pay 400 gold for them though, I got the mats and had them made for much less.

Depends on if you want the drake or not, bug regardless, the dailies you are doing will provide you with a lot of gold, and more than enough to get the drake once you hit exalted. For me personally no, it's not, but I'll still do the dailies anyway because they get me gold.

Absolutely not. I'll say it again, this mount only looks cool, but other than that provides nothing beneficial, which is the point I'm trying so hard to get across to people like you. Yes it's your gold, and you can do what you want with it, but no matter what, it is a waste of gold and could of gone to something much more useful, even if you're sitting on a 20,000 gold stockpile.

Yes yes and oh god YES! However, you seam to be confused here, the speed difference between an epic mount and a flying mount is enormous, much more than 2%, and while the 5k gold IS a rip off, it is very justifiable because, again, the speed difference is freaking huge. I did a lot of reading about mount speed increases, and item enchant/riding crop speed increases. Your total speed on a non-epic flying mount is 160% (when you're running on ground you're already going 100% speed and you get a speed increase by 60%. by means to multiply. 100 x .6 = 60%, then just add that to your total speed 100% + 60% = 160%) With epic mounts, however, your speed increase is by 280%, which is a total speed of 380%. And when you equip a riding crop, you're total speed shoots up to 418% (380 x .1 = 38%, 380% + 38% = 418% total speed.)

While there's no tangible value to the mount itself, it's no faster, it doesn't have lasers, it -is- relatively rare, and for some people that is a value in and of itself.

mmm the war hippogryph...now it may not be as fancy as say your drake, the faction mounts, or others but it has a certain charm. to have one makes me feel like i am on my night elf flying from point A to point B in the Ashenvale.

i suppose when you decide on your land or air mount you have to take into consideration personal tastes, as well as the debatable how status seeking you truly are.

so i say get whatever mount you want whether from vendors, raids, quests, or factions just get what makes you happy.

For myself I truly enjoy riding my griff and seeing the feathers flap in the breeze. :P

One good thing about this mount is that it's relatively small, at least compared to the screen space taken up by the drake. This makes it ideal for any aerial-based dailies, as it sits near the center of the screen and you can actually see around it.

I find this a way Blizzard made to take some gold out to make the inflaction not keep rising like crazy (giving new players a chance to use the AH). This, the Shattered sun offensive title and some other things that cost a few thousand gold have that main objective i guess. the price sets this apart as a unique mount, where as just about everyone has a nether ray or netherdrake, the hippogryph is extremely unique and well worth the cost to not have the same thing everyone else has. I've seen more albino drakes than hippogryphs on my server, I fully believe it's the most unique flying mount behind the Phoenix that drops from TK 25-man and the arena drakes.

As of patch 3.0.8 (or maybe the quickie hotfix right after?) the "drunk rabbit with intestinal problems" animation when landing has been taken out. It now flies at the same speed as in the air when on the ground. But they still haven't added landing animations :(

I'd say this mount isn't worth the 1.6k gold now that they added soaring and turning animations to the WotLK drake mounts. You get really tired of minimizing the window and hearing flap, flap, flap...

Take a look at this picture.
It implies two things.

1. Hippogryphs as of patch 3.1 (I assume) will have a 'running/ground animation'.
2. Blizzard has decided to start using the other hippogryph colour skins.

Though honestly, it's the running animation that does it for me.

I don't think it was mentioned yet, but there is a new reason for spending the money and dealing with the animation (which is hopfully fixed today) for this mount. There's 2 mounts that can only be obtained through others. Unless you get really lucky with many of the droped mounts, you'll been needing this one in your barn to get the Albino Drake and Dragonhawk.

The Dragonhawk expecially since I think the last time I counted there was only a few more then 100 to actually get in total currently. Not counting the TCG and Retiered mounts as most players can't get those.

no, it doesn't walk. it's not really supposed to. none of the ones in feralas or aszhara walk, they hover along the ground exactly like this one does, so why is anyone surprised?

The gryphons of Arathi Highlands hover in the same way, yet the mounts were given a run animation. Please think your comments through.

Also if you peruse through the model files via wowmodelview program, a standing animation currently exists. Why it was not applied seems to be beyond everyone. Perhaps it is clunky or bugged. In any case, Argent Hippogryphs have been released recently, perhaps their owners will necro this old subject and encourage change upon Blizzards part.

This is one beautiful bird. The color scheme is more neutral than the one of the Argent Hippogryph and therefore it might be a hippogryph of choice for wider range of characters, because white colored bird does not really fit anyone apart from holy priests and paladins (talking on RP perspective here).

Favorite mount now with all the added animations. A stretch animation, one where it looks about left and right, one where it will scratch at the ground and then flick up like it is eating something. And the run animation is fairly cool in and of itself.

With all this and its unique color and not being a freight train like the Dragons and whatnot. I personally think it brings it out ahead of the pack.

With the advent of Patch 3.3, this bird has gained a lot of new animations. For one, it now has a standing and running one. FINALLY!

In addition, it has more idle animations than any creature I've seen. Thus far, I'ev seen:

*a slight head-tilt and tail flick
*a more extreme step and look around
*stretching one wing, then the other, using its hind legs
*scratching and pecking at the ground

In addition, it has a completely separate /mountspecial.

A very active mount!

The Cenarion Circle accept aid from all quarters be they horde or alliance, so anyone who has put in the time and effort to obtain this mount should deserve it regardless of race or faction. I was 10k into honored starting today and then I got into a group with 2 others and we grinded Steamvaults for about 4 hours until the 3 of us all got exalted. It was awesome to go back to Cenarion Refuge, all of us buy our mounts and then just hang out and fly around and stuff. A bunch of passerbys would stop and look at the 3 of us on this very sexy mount.

I love it, but now I just need to get my Raven Lord to drop and I am set with my druid and his 2 mounts. I will need to grind Cenarion Circle now though for the title!

I found this as a pretty easy grind. Just got a few of my Guildies that were wanting to get this beautiful mount too. Its was me (Tree healer), Prot Pally and a Hunter. Ran Heroic Underbog, Slave Pens, and Steamvault. Everyday for about a week. We distributed out the Coilfang Armanents equally and know were all flying around on this beauty.

As many people have already said, this is an amazing mount! I got mine after 3.3 so i never noticed that it "hovered" instead of walking, and i could see why that would be annoying, but now it has a nice walking animation.

Getting this did not take too long, I just did all the CE quest in zangarmarsh and the camp in hellfire peninsula, after that i solo'd steamvaults (at level 80, as a DK) a bunch of times holding onto all of the coilfang armaments (盤牙裝備) that dropped and handed them in as part of the quest chain (瓦許女士的命令) that starts from a drop in SV. Definitely worth the time that it took to get it, and i still haven't seen any others, so that is another plus, after flying around in Dalaran, a lot of people asked how i got it, and i was reluctant to tell them cause i don't want everyone to have one...

Some people have mention that there is a price difference between this mount and the drakes, but imo this is cooler and too many people have some kind of drake or another.

I absolutely love this mount! I got it this morning after I finally buckled down and worked on the rep. I did quite a few dungeons when I leveled and did all of the D.E.A.T.A. quests in Northrend, so when I finally decided I needed to get it done, I did all of the Cenarion Expedition quests in Zangarmarsh and Blade's Edge. After I had those out of the way, I hoped on the AH and bought all of the Coilfang Armaments that were listed (this can save some time but can also be expensive). If you have the gold, I recommend it because it can save you some runs through Steamvault. After that, it only took me 5 1/2 Steamvault runs to get to exalted. I got 80 Coilfang Armaments in my 5 1/2 runs which brought me right to exalted.

Now, just a side note, I made quite a bit of gold running through Steamvault on my own. On top of the gold, massive amounts of armor dropped for me, and a stack of arcane dust on my server goes for about 50g. I recieved 3 stacks of arcane dust from my runs along with more enchanting mats, pearls, gray items that I sold to a vendor for 1g+, recipes/scrolls, primals, etc. Not to mention all of the ore and herbs that can be found in the instance.

So, this mount is wonderful and relatively easy to obtain. You can make a nice chunk of change farming for it and it is pretty uncommon for how easy it is to get. Good luck to everyone farming for it! It will go by pretty fast. Faster than the Wintersaber mount that is lol.

This mount is very easy to obtain by farming Nesingway Lackey Ears in Borean Tundra (or Boring Tuna). If you go to where Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer is, the Minion of Kaw mobs respawn very quickly and are very easy to kill. I averaged at about 300 ears per hour. I am a level 80 boomkin/tree druid and I was with a frost/arcane mage the whole time. It took us less than a week without working very hard every day. We would put in about 2-3 hours.
I also had Spirit of Sharing from Pilgrim's Bounty.
I believe the ears turn in for 150 reputation per 15 ears (165 with Spirit of Sharing or the Human ability), so if you are calculating how many ears you will need, remember to round up to the closest multiple of 15.
This mount really is magnificent. The idling fidgets, such as stretching, eating something off of the ground, ect, make it even more showy.
Even at level 80, this mount is favored. I love it.

the fastest way i grinded this mount is ears in borean tundra next to valliance keep,tried also instances run but i found it boring and a bit hard since i was alone all the time..

This is a great little mount. She's small enough that I can fly her through doorways. Saves time on all those "give a goodie to the king" quests.

As others have stated, the animations are very lively. She actually looks and behaves like a living creature. The colors are very appealing as well. Such a pretty mount, I've had newer players ask where to get her.

The initial rep grind was painful because I started playing WoW after LK came out and was not in a guild. I also did not know you could stalk some of the drops in the AH. Admittedly, as an environmentalist, I had no problem grinding those poachers.

If you have a "big" main that can solo instances, you will save a lot of time. For one, you don't have to share the loot with 4 other players. Also, if you are in a large guild, you not only have the rep bonus, but other players may leave rep stuff in the guild bank.Also, it never hurts to ask friends and guild mates.

When I first started playing WoW, I was given this advice: Kill everything you see that can be killed. Along the roads while traveling, extras during quests, whatever you can. Make it a habit so that it becomes a reflex.

This has paid off enormously over time. You'd be surprised at how quickly even copper and silver can add up. As a result, when it has come time to buy mounts or flying or whatever, the gold has been there. It's a very easy way to be prepared for those things when you're ready. So when it was time for 4,500g for fast flying, I had it.

It also gives you rep along the way (most of the time.) I got exalted with all five capitol cities very quickly and with several other factions just by taking advantage of the mobs available for killing while doing other things. Dungeons became a real plus when I was able to do those.

My point is this: I see a lot of complaining about how expensive it is to buy flying and mounts, but really, the game is set up to provide you with the means to get these things if you just do some very simple things as you play. 1600g for this mount is actually not all that much and is easy to save without doing extraordinary things.

Also: Popping an underwater breathing elixir and going to the center of the lake in Borean Tundra is a great way to easily farm Nessingwary ears for this mount. There are dozens there that you don't have to chase down or wait for, they respawn very very quickly. Find a group, float in place and pop 8 or ten, then go collect the goods. Repeat. I got 500 ears in an hour and a half doing this and was able to move that last bit to exalted with no problem. This plus running Steamvault a few times and doing the quests got me this mount pretty fast.

The gryph IS a great little mount. The drakes are showy and fun, but this hippogryph is fast and beautiful, running or flying and is an easy addition if you're after the 50 mount achievement and Albino Drake reward.

This is one of my favorite mounts. Dragons are fun and flashy but can become bulky and large. I love the size of the mount. Especially when flying through old world Azeroth and flying below the tree line, it's easy to navigate and see things. Great for flying into doorways in towns also, no need to dismount beforehand. The female worgen model fits great on this mount.

Does anyone else notice the burning sound effect when riding this mount after 4.2? I don't recall hearing it previously. I'm wondering if the 火護角鷹獸 sound effects were accidentally given to this mount, too.

if you kill things in The Steamvault the item called "coilfang armaments" will drop, it looks like a spear
they are used to turn in for rep

in order to turn them in you will have to get a quest which also drops in this dungeon as a random drop

the spears drop often and give about 80 rep per a spear, upon turn in of the quest it gives 500 rep (not including any bonus)

they are easy enough to kill @ cata level, just round them up and AOE like crazy

i think this is much better than ears in borean tundrea, and they give alright amount of silver for the dents they will do in your armor

Edit: this turn in is @ revered, I decided to solo dungeon runs for rep instead of my usual boring ear grind
drop rate of jaggal clam is very high, lots of naga in this dungeon

The entrance of this place is full of mobs, they make great rep and spear turn in
Clearing everything in the first room up to the first boss yields 912 rep, not bad if you are using a tank like me (level 14 guild)
Full clear of everything in the dungeon will give 1974 rep (these figures do not include the spears, only the rep from killing)

1st run: 16 spears
2nd run: 10 spears
3rd run: 11 spears
4th run: 15 spears
5th run: 11 spears

Also found Khorium Band of Frost, and I am max JC ^_^

This one's still my favourite mount, being a little flashy but not overly so such as the Flameward hippogryff. Small and compact,able to fit through almost any door (Especially useful for that cave entrance in the Molten Front) and has very nice colours.

It suits well for a Night Elf who roleplays, as it seems to be a sort of racial flying mount for them.

I just got mine a couple days ago its a great mount but does anyone else notice that it jumps significantly higher than any other mount? I only have wotlk so i run around org on this and it jump super high, its not anything bad just strange.

I've noticed that since 4.2 and the addition of 火護角鷹獸 the standard hippogryph has gained a fiery sound set. I'm guessing this is just a bug as it is not intended to be on fire, but it sure sounds like it is.

This is a great mount for Horde, as it is one of only a few Hippogryphs available to them. You will certainly stand out on this in Org, I used it as my main mount for a long while. Also, if you get an item that can transform you to look like an Ally, you can troll by calling out "Ally at ...", then being there yourself, yelling "BUR!" (what Horde sees when Ally lol's). This was pretty fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it, some didn't understand. :P What I used: 褪色巫師小帽 You could also use: 欺詐寶珠, 美味變異點心, or .

I like this mount because it doesn't have the "herky jerky" movements that a lot of the larger mounts do, and it isn't a noisy flying mount like a lot of the dragons are, as I prefer a quieter mount while doing my mining and other profession work. You don't see very many of them either, unlike the Wind Riders, which look great but are everywhere due to the ease in obtaining them. This is my main "work" mount.

went over to buy the bird today and noted these things.

1. It REQUIRES Exalted to be able to buy it from the vendor.

2. at friendly, its price (although not purchasable at this point) is 1700 gold, and so on.

3. since it is cataclysm the rep grind should be fairly easy, being able to 1 shot npc's and all.

With account-wide mounts, it can be used at level 20. You can't fly, obviously, but it functions as a ground mount.

I ride on this guy on my druid as a mount of choice, I know swift flight form is better when I need to fly off in a pinch... but the griffon is such a nice mount, it would be a shame not to do so

On my goblin it cost 1400 gold.

Reminder that collecting spears will no longer work for gaining rep. However, farming dungeons is a good way to collect reputation. I recommend the farming after completing quests in Hellfire Peninsula, Terokkar Forest, Blade's Edge Mountains and Borean Tundra. I personally liked farming Steamvaults since I could collect Sporeggar reputation as well.

If you wish to farm mobs in Borean Tundra. The quest Can't Get Ear-nough... for the Cenarion Expedition is a repeatable daily. The Nesingwary Lackey Ear has a fairly good drop rate. I personally liked farming them off Loot Crazed Diver; they respawn quite fast.

This is the math and information you will need if you want to grind out The Underbog for your Hippogryph. (I've done the math for you! YAY!) Good Luck and Happy Farming!

For grinding Underbog for the Cenarion Expedition reputation you will encounter 110 mobs (give or take 2 or 3 creatures that i may of miss counted)

NOTE THIS DATA IS FOR NORMAL DIFFICULTY

Which are worth 7 reputation points each, There are 4 bosses worth 70 reputation points each, this added up equates to

Mobs Rep: 770
Boss Rep: 280

Total = 1050 which is roughly what I obtained from one full run of it (I gained 1043 reputation with Cenarion Expedition in one full run without missing one mob).

Given that you start from 0 reputation at Neutral you will need to obtain 42000 reputation points with the Cenarion Expedition, roughly equated given that you obtain 1050 reputation per one FULL run, you will need to run The Underbog 40 times to achieve exalted with the Cenarion Expedition

NOTE THIS DATA IS FOR HEROIC DIFFICULTY

Mobs in Heroic difficulty are worth 15 reputation each also being 110 mobs, and bosses are worth 250 reputation also being 4 bosses

Mobs Rep: 1650
Boss Rep: 1000

Total = 2650 Which again is roughly what I obtained through ONE run of the instance (2653 reputation earnt)

Given again that you need 42000 reputation from Neutral you will need to run The Underbog 15 times in Heroic difficulty (Providing you obtain 2650 reputation each run) to Achieve Exalted.

EDIT: What I would suggest is killing all the mobs other than bosses and resetting the instance and re-doing then on the last run of the day kill the bosses. (On heroic difficulty)

When doing the Instance make sure to loot every Sanguine Hibiscus as when you finish the instance you can hand these in to T'shu at the start of the instance for a hefty Reputation gain towards the Sporeggar! (750 reputation) Make sure not to just delete or vendor the left over Sanguine Hibiscus as they are NOT bind on equip and can be sold in the Auction House!

Running Underbog is good, but Steam Vaults will give about double rep of Underbog. Slave pens gives quite a bit too, but doesn't give any rep during Revered. If you do run slave pens, kill the slaves, ad they award rep despite being neutral. SSC gives no rep, don't waste your time.
I ran Underbog, Steamvault, and Slave pens between each instance reset, then at revered swapped to just Underbog and Steamvault. Got it with little effort, and if you want, this can easily be done in one day with a speedy toon (Cunning Beastmaster Hunter, Demon Hunter, Druid, etc)

Also, the jump animation on the mount is priceless!

If you are grinding this rep and you get stuck needing one rep to get Exalted, go back and run Slave Pens or Underbog at Heroic...boom you are exalted!
