Heading west down the path of glory, I found him at the camp inside the walls on the left. He was easy to solo as a 60 frost mage. Slowable and rootable with a decent amount of hit points.

I found out how to get it! It's the Quest line that you get at Expedition Point. It starts with the quest Ill Omens and goes up to Drill the Drillmaster. To get to him, you need to jump off the bridge that leads to the meeting stone, he's on the ground level where the Orcs are (48,55). Make sure you check before you cross the bridge that leads to the meeting stone. At the starting point of the bridge, jump down on to glory road and he is at the end facing west. Be sure to get some help as he's a very tough elite to solo.

Very easy once you know where to look. He can be found to the left underneath Hellfire Citadel. Just walk down the path of glory stay on your left and follow it round to left he is i there with 3 other mobs. I did it easy at 60 with a 61 pally.

Location confirmed. I soloed him as a 63 Ret Paladin, but it was not easy; however, I did NOT have to LoH, so he's not impossibly hard. Pull him into a corner, away from adds because he calls for help at 20%. If you're far enough away, no one comes. Also, back up when he starts to WW. Fight him in a corner to prevent being knocked into adds.

Clear the pats and the mobs that are near the drillmaster. Once you have a large enough agro free area to fight in engage and make sure that your back is facing the wall because he will knock you back into nearby mobs.

Solo'd him as a level 61 warrior, BUT, as a warrior, you need some luck in this fight, a minor resist or anything might get you killed.

I built up rage in a previous fight with an orc, then pulled with my ranged weapon and stood against the wall. Popped Retaliation, Thunder clapped him and DPS'd him till I was low on health. Then Intimidate shouted and bandaged myself. (Be sure to clear the orcs around him). Then start DPSing again spam execute when he's below 20%.

I didn't even have to use a potion, so he is most definitely soloable for warriors (at least for arms warriors).

this quest is soloable as a lvl 62 fire mage, if you have mana pot and mana gem ready and a bit of luck, he hits hard and the knockbacks are a pain however he can be frostnovad and dragons breath works aswell :) Just make sure you have cleared the mobs around and to keep distance from him :) i think frost mage will do this alot easier then me but might not be as fun..

The chest piece isnt that much better than avg outland gear but its fun at least :D

It is worth 1000 Repuation with Honour Hold as well. Very simple for a Hunter to Freeze Trap him about, gets even better when he gets into whirlwind as you can just unleash your DPS and of course have even more time for your CC type cooldowns to come up.

Not soloable by a level 60 feral druid in shitty (read: tier 0.5, some MC-ZG-AQ20 + 2-3 Hellfire items) gear - You can slowly whittle him down by tanking in bear and using grasp/bash alternately to heal, but the adds will respawn before you get him down >_>. So, get a partner unless your gear is decent.

Soloed as lvl 60 Frost Mage. 3 tries. :) Was pretty hard. Water Elemental + Cold Snap + 2 Nova's + blinking around + permafrost.

Also, be careful if he knocks you back to the mountain, could end up with evasion. :/

First I cleared up around him, then killed him.
He stands in cords 48,57 and he's a level 62 elite with 21495HP.

Soloed him as a level 60 affliction warlock, took one hit.

He's actually very easy, if done right. Provided you know where he is, you should know that you can actually jump into the small, secluded place where he is, by jumping from the cliff a bit left of the bridge to the ramparts instances.
When you look down there, you can see that there's another piece of 'cliff' from which you can actually attack him with ranged.

What I did was jump down there, summon imp, and wait for him to patrol between the bigger tent in the middle and the smaller tent on the right, and then put an instant dot on him to aggro him when he was perfectly distanced from both mobs, so I didn't pull adds.
When he comes to you, simply fear him and dot him up, do your thing etc, and use the imp for mana. I believe he has around 15k hp, which was about 3-4 "full dots" for me, with 236 spell dmg. Don't worry, he doesn't run down and get adds - He just runs around on the piece of cliff you're standing on.

Soloed as a level 61 frost mage. Target him from the cliffs above, then summon Water Elemental and send it in. Once it aggroes Drillmaster, recall it and start frostbolting. Once he's in range, frost nova and move back.

Continue to frostbolt till he is close once more, then pop coldsnap and frostnova him again. Blink away, summon water elemental, then continue to dps with frostbolts. He should go down without any problems.

Soloed as a level 61 BM Hunter. Be sure to have the mana for a couple Mend Pets and throw up an Intimidation and your Bestial Wrath near the end and he's pretty much cake. Just be sure to clear the mobs before him and any pats you need to handle before your pull.

Rather easily soloed as a 61 Shadow Priest.

Tip: Jump down on the little platform on the hill south of where the Drillmaster patrols. Pull him and always keep facing down the hill. That way he will only knock you up the hill and you won't take any fall damage or pull other mobs.

Also, avoid fearing him, it will only pull more mobs or screw up your positioning. I died once because I feared him and he went up the hill and came down again only to punt me into the mobs below and making me take 2500 fall damage.

Go to 48, 56 and jump down just to the middle of the slope. He walks from one hut to the next hut. If you're facing north-west, the right side hut has only one caster mob. Pull him when Zurok walks to the other hut.
Now when Zurok goes to that hut he is single pullable. He does a huge knockback so make sure your back is always facing the cliff that way you won't get knocked back in the other mobs. 61 warr, 60 paladin was cake. I turned around once by mistake and got knocked in 3 other mobs but was still easy. Group of 2 with one being a healer(hybrid is fine too) should make it easy. A tank class should be able to take the beating with ease.

Has about 20k hp.

Managed to solo this quest as a level 61 mutilate rogue. Clear the mobs around him first before trying to engage him. Make sure that you have your blind, evasion, bandage and loads of gouges ready.
Try and keep him stunlocked as much as possible, and fill it in with a gouge afterwards to be able to wait out your cooldowns.

I was able to solo this with a 61 feral druid in dire bear. Just kept the dps up, used frenzied regen and did a bash and heal at the end and i was right. i was also backed into a corner so as to avoid the big knockback

Soloable as a 60 BM Hunter + turtle, with some effort.

I had to pull out all the tricks on this one, including letting the pet get it down to about 80% or so before engaging so it could keep aggro. Having Gift of Naaru (Draenei special ability) saved my pet... I dont think it could have tanked indefinitely with pet mend alone. Even in the end I was running around like crazy kiting the guy (had recently feigned away aggro once already). So, it wasn't easy by any means, but it sure as hell was fun!

Was very easy as a 60 moonkin druid - he never touched me. Cleared the mobs around him, then just kept him rooted with moonfire and insect swarm on him. Took a minute or two for him to die - but was never any danger.

Solo'd as 62 Death Knight, Unholy spec.

DPS cycle (my regular one, in fact):

Icy Touch -> Plague Strike -> Scourge Strike -> Blood Strike -> Blood Strike -> Death Coil. Rinse and repeat.

If you need healing, substitute a Death Strike for either Scourge Strike or both Plague Strike AND Scourge Strike, depending on how much healing you want.

Solo as 62 death knight. Very hard. First time at it must have bugged out got him down to almost no health and he ran away but was still attacking but had full health again. Second time cleared a few guards away got myself into a corner and death gripped away from the other guards and killed him. Hardest part was getting out lol. You're going to want a group for this one.

Stupidly easy quest, except maybe for squishy caster types.

Soloed as a 61 prot pally. I've had more issues with regular mobs than this guy.
If you can get in a corner he can't push you back far and the consecrate still hurts him when you're flying 30 feet up. Spam holy shield and judgements as neccessary and you should be fine.

64 elite, soloed at 60 DK - unholy specced. Deathgrip, throw on all dots -> blood strike. Then he throws you away and does whirvlwind and just keep up icy touch, he can't really touch you. Your ghoul can attack him all the time and when you got death strike ready, go "heal" on him and throw all new dots... Throw death coil whenever its ready.... GL :D

Solo'd on my 60 DK (Blood), just kill the mobs around him first and then used one of the bodies for a ghoul. Had to pop a heal pot mid fight, other then that did the job. He was also a 62 Elite still.

The key to this fight if you have any sort of healing spell is to simply outlast him. He has a ton of health compared to you and hits pretty hard. As a elemental shaman, I basically healed myself and threw lightning bolts when I wasn't healing. It took a few minutes but if your mana holds, it should not be too hard unless you get an unlucky knockback.

Soloed as a lvl 62 DK, blood spec. Just pulled the support staff, got my minion out, cast Dancing Rune Weapon, and executed my DPS macro on the elite until he was dead. Is it the DK's or have the elites been nerfed? When I did BC with my hunter everything seems much more difficult...or maybe I am just that much better....nah!

How to down him?

Make sure that he is facing you on the hill to prevent pulling any extra mobs around the area (Saves time clearing ^_^), also try to tank him on the hill so you do not pull any pats.

I just completed this quest. I remember doing it on my paladin with the help of a mage and priest. I soloed it with my 62 Feral Druid. Drillmaster hit me in the high 400s (my ac is 2k). He had 21k hp. For a feral druid the key step to soloing him is to run from him and heal--with infected wounds he will not be able to stop you from healing. Becareful of healing while next to him because I died the first try when he knocked me back while in the middle of a heal. And like everyone has said clear out the orcs around him this pull him and fight with your back to the wall. His knock back is serious if you dont have your back to the wall.

Pretty easy solo for a level 60 ret paladin.

I underestimated him the first time, went in with SoC and ran OOM.

Second time went in with Seal of Wisdom instead and smoked him, didn't have to bubble or lay on hands. I just cleared out the area around him so he couldn't punt me anywhere, hit him with Repentance when I was nearly dead healed up and then waited it out for a bit so it could cooldown. Repeated that twice and he went down.

A nice little tactic for classes with pets/minions:

You can avoid fighting a bunch of mobs by sending your pet over the hill to pull him.
This can be done by heading down past the tower near Honor Hold to the ridge line overlooking his position.
Send pet over the edge and once he engages just call him back. Helps to have another player helping out, but you can fight in an area free from other mobs-takes less than 2 minutes to complete coming out of Honor Hold until finished.

Easy solo with a 62 Unholy DK and a ghoul. He is in a cul-de-sac with two other mobs. Came up from the south, avoiding Path of Glory altogether and jumped down to the ledge above the cul-de-sac. Had to move over to the slope to the right of the ledge to get close enough, then grabbed him up to the ledge and fought with my back to the cliff wall. Never got below 3k health and never used a potion. Rode out down the Path of Glory with orcs slapping my back in congratulation!

There is no room, or opportunity, for maneuver using this tactic, so you have to be able to stand up to what he puts out, including the whirlwind. On the other hand, he can knock you down, but not back, so when you get up you are still in melee range.

Soloed as level 60 combat rogue in mostly greens after quite a few attempts (most deaths were due to trash respawning).

Went something like this:

Cheap shot - SS - SS - Run away, wait for energy
When he reached me - Gouge, AR, KS, SSx5, Evasion, Evis, SSx4 Evis, Dismantle, SSx4, Blind
Bandage to full- Gouge, Blade Flurry, KS, SSx4, Evis, Gouge, Sprint to gain some distance while waiting for energy
When he reached me again- Gouge, SS, Health pot, KS, and finish him off.

Satisfying? Yes. Worth the effort? No. If you're a rogue, just find a group. :D

Ok, I was able to do this as an Elemental shaman. The key factor here was my position on top of a hill at . It's a small hill overlooking the camp he paces to and fro.

First I killed one add as the drill master paced around. When the drill master was back under the tent (away from adds), I popped Elemental Mastery and started pounding him. When he got close I used Thunderstorm, and because I was high up that hill he was knocked quite a distance away. I continued pounding him away 'til he was gone. I believe Balance druids can use this same exact tactic using their push back ability.

--I soloed this as a 63 Hunter BM. Killed as many of the surrounding mobs as possible, then took him on. Easy kill, but my Silithid is a very good fighter and was what made the quest easy.

I did what Icedane did above but was a bit less successful.

I jumped down on the little ledge, looking down on the camp the ledge is about midway between the tents. Used imp, but let the drillmaster get too close and he punted me off the ledge into an add. Keep your back to the hill at all times, once we were both down by the tents he picked up three adds after repeat fears before he dropped. I was just about dead at that point.

If you keep yourself and the drill master on the ledge you are golden, he is just a DOT and fear mob. You could also clear the tent area first and get him last, but it is more time consuming.

soloed as a 61 unholy DK. I did get into trouble because he knocked me back into a corner (instead of me doing that to him), giving me a few camera problems. He killed my ghoul very quickly and ended up calling his shaman (I had already cleared all the other mobs around), so I had to burn all my AoE tricks there. I finished him with less than 1k left. Not that easy, but certainly doable.

Trollbane ordered me to kill Drillmaster Zurok with all due haste and it was my duty to obey. With no companions to help I summoned my Felhunter, and my courage, and started out for the Hellfire Citadel. I wound my way down the Path of Glory, killing any Shattered Hand Grunts and Captains that I couldn't avoid.

As I approached the Citadel, I turned left and moved into the South Rampart. I was killing everything now, making sure the area was clear. When I finally found Zurok, he was patrolling at the back. I watched for a few minutes to determine his path, slowing picking off the other fel orcs. It took patience, but finally I had him alone, isolated with no nearby help. I carefully backed myself up against a wall, mindful his legendary knock back.

I was ready. I would kill Zurok, or die trying.

I started by sending my Felhunter in to get his attention. Then I Cursed him with Agony, Corrupted his soul and Immolated him. As the flames burned his flesh, he turned his attention to me, I got a Soul Fire off when he hit me with his Whirlwind. Then he slammed be against the wall and returned to my Felhunter. I quickly drank a healing potion then hit him with a Shadow Burn, he was on me again so I used my Healthstone. I needed more time, so I feared him and create another Healtstone. By now the curse was worn off, so I cast it again quickly followed by a Corruption. Back he came. I needed to stay alive, and the only way to do that was to kill him, so I fired a Shadow Bolt as he charged me. I Death Coiled him and then started to Drain his Life. That got his attention and back he came. Now it was just a matter of time; would I be able to drain his life before he beat mine out of me. I began to fade - I was slipping into unconciousness. With only a few seconds remaining I switched to Drain Soul -- four times more potent when the victim is almost dead - and watched as Zurock drop to the ground in front of me.

I had done it. Alone, a level 64 Warlock, had slain Zurock.

Easily Soloable as a 60 Boomkin, 5k mana 350 spell power. First clear all the trash away (you don't want these aggro'ing during scrap).. once trash is cleared, Regrowth and Rejuve, and then pull him with Moonfire, as he comes to you Typhoon him away and then root him down.. then insect swarm and moonfire... if you have the glyph you can get away with a couple of Wraths... when he breaks cast Natures grasp and renew DoTs.. pretty much rinse and repeat..use innervate and if it gets too much use treants .. I came out of the fight with 80% health.. 90% mana. Good quest and xp at 60.. hope this helps.

Easily solo-able for a level 61 Protadin. I just cleared everything else, then went to work with Judgements, HotR, Exorcism, Consecrate, etc. Had SoW, BoSanc, and Holy Shield up to regen back my mana.

The plate chestpiece is a good reward for both Ret and Prot paladins, since the Agi is used for both crit chance and more armor. As for Stam and Str, well, that's pretty obvious.

This quest is easier than The Rock Flayer Matriach, another group quest in Hellfire Peninsula.

Same here, soled at 61, Warlock/Afflication. Cleared area, and pulled him with Contagion, used minion till dead and unleased Inferno Minion. He does hit hard, was left with less than 100 health.

Soloed as a lvl 63 frost DK. 5877 health, never got below 50%. I worked my way down the path of glory killing about everything along the way, recovering cool downs and such along the way. I cleared out everything I could along the way, climbed the hill as much as I could while he was on the other side. Dropped into the back of his little tent thing and aggroed the lone mob across from me, then him. Dropped Death and Decay and got busy on my rotation to kill him. Downed him pretty quick, maybe a minute or so, all in DK starting gear.

Group is not necessary. Solo'd as a lvl 60 Shadow Priest. Clear a fighting area because he throws you around a little and you don't want to aggro mobs.

I did this as a lvl 61 warrior, i cleared some mobs then pulled him into a area without any other mobs tho, i failed the first time when he had 600 hp left and i died but the next time i managed to kill him but died right after, i got knockbacked into a mob then i feared another into a cleric but it went pretty good :) get some good crits and you`ll be fine

Easily solo'd as a Blood DK - lvl 62, still in DK starter gear.

Clear adds. Then, put your back to a wall so you don't go flying. Frost Presence to minimize damage. Death Strike when you need some health. I didn't need to use any pots or CDs. Literally just keep up diseases, Heart Strike for DPS, Death Strike when your health is below 90%.

Did this as a 61 ret paladin with no problems. Once the area around him is cleared, he's cake. I just DPS'd him normally until he used his knockback attack, and let him push me somewhere in the open. Since he doesn't have any ranged attacks, you should have enough time to get off a cast of holy light before he can reach you. So pretty much, all you need to do as a paladin is whack on him ignoring your own health (unless you have a tiny amount of health, he normally left me at around 20% after I was knocked back), then when he knocks you back, heal yourself as he's charging. Repeat that a few times and he's done. No bubble, no problem.

Just solo'd as a 60 Fire mage. Wasn't terribly difficult as long as you don't mind using a pot or two.

Standard opener - get back as far as you can, wind up a pyro then line him up with LB and Imp Scorch (Scorch debuff should stay up for almost all the fight). As soon as he gets to you, Nova him and pyro again. Dragon's Breath straight after, step away a bit while refreshing LB and FB him. As soon as the FB breaks DB, CoC him and leg it.

The aim is to kite him around until nova and DB come up again, while hitting him with instants and keeping LB up. If you need to, Blast Wave to give you a little breathing room or Iceblock while your roots cool down. You probably will cop a smack or two here or there, so keep pots handy just in case.

Somehow managed to solo this as an assasination rogue, using crippling/instant poison, bandages, blind, pot and cooldowns. It was a while ago, so i cant give any specific details.

Just dont try to stand up to him toe to toe, you WILL fail.

Solo'd without difficulty as a 62 enhance shaman. It's easy now that you have a flying mount at 60 - fly in and land behind him, take out the nearby mobs (a caster and melee in my case), then fight him one-on-one. He whirlwinded once. I didn't notice him knocking me back at all - maybe they nerfed that move.

Just solo'd as a level 61 Feral Druid...not so bad (though I died once figuring out the best way to do it).

Clear the mobs that are directly next to him (he moves away, so they are easy to aggro), as well as a couple more leading towards the Path of Glory. That leaves plenty of room to take him on alone, which is really your best bet since he tosses you all over the place if you are not careful. Then wait until he goes back to his tent (don't attack him when he's next to the warlock! It hurts!) and attack him there.

I agree with the others, best to keep your back against the wall so that when he tosses you, it doesn't matter.

I just soloed him as a level 62 Shadow Priest. No pots required, but I did heal once. You do need to watch the knockback. I just made sure my DoTs were up on him, bubbled, used Flay to reset SW:P etc. Standard stuff.

I think they've nerfed this guy. I was able to solo him easily as a 61 hunter and a pig pet. He still did his knockback (which created a few hairy moments), but I only had to heal my pet infrequently.

VERY easily solo'd as a 64 frost mage. i never even took damage. just cleared out all the guys around him first, made sure ice barrier was up and off CD, opened with a shatter combo and 2x FoF ice lance. that took him to about 50%. he knocked me back and i just frostbolted him down from there. incredibly easy.

Solo'd as a 62 Arms Warrior fairly easily. Throwdown works, so just clear out an area and go in and DPS him down, charge back while in mid air from the knockback to avoid fall damage. Inner rage is nice because he hits hard enough that you can use HS on CD already.

Lvl 62 affliction lock -- I my spell power up to with wizard oil, int scroll, and buff food, then I found the "cliff" as mentioned.

The Drillmaster was able to run up to engage me, but no adds came. I dotted him up, feared him once, and it was over. I didn't even take any damage.

Just soloed as a lvl 60 frost DK. Gotta be quick or these things will run out:

First, take out the adds on the left side, then follow these steps:

-Summon Ghoul
-Pillar of Frost
-DnD
-Pull the Drillmaster

Pillar of frost keeps him from knocking the #$%^ out of you and sending you flying, which does the most damage to you. Stay out of his whirlwind and you'll be fine

Solo'd as a 59 prot Pally, either clear your way to him down the path or just go round the back and jump down from the ledge like i did, when your down past 1k health just hit lay on hands and finish him off.

I did it solo as a level 62 Arcane Mage with mirror image and a whole bunch of buffs, and I managed to kill him in about 20 seconds. I made sure I singled out and killed all the mobs around him first, so that I wouldn't accidentally aggro any of them. It was a very average drop though: only 30 silver and some netherweave.

Confirmed that he IS soloable.

As a 60 feral druid (bearform), I took these steps... First pull and kill the adds. Then position yourself with your back against the wall to prevent his knockback from causing you to aggro more. Then pull him and follow your usual rotation. Keep a healing potion at hand, in case you're not fast enough to quickly heal yourself before you die.

As of patch 4.3, Drillmaster Zurok is no longer elite (just like Arazzius the Cruel). He does have a lot of hp though (10k) but, still, really easy.

I just soloed this as a lvl 60 balance druid.
I used flight form to drop down on the site and killed a couple mobs around him and them used treants and typhoon. If you managed not to agro the surrounding mobs, treants alone should do the job.

Solo'd as a 62 Arms Warrior. I honestly expected a lot worse from the comments I was reading. This quest was easy for me. I killed surrounding mobs, one by one.. Took maybe 3 minutes? Then moved into the tunnel (?) area, killed off some of the wandering guys. I then waited until he was alone, used heroic throw to bring him closer... Regular rotation. It triggered one of his guys but honestly it took less than 30 seconds to kill them both off. My health was not a worry at all either.. After that I just mounted and swooped out of there. VERY easy and easy to solo, even as a warrior. I'm not even that good at my class. Or maybe I'm decent. I don't even think it was luck, I could have handled a couple more guys for sure. Very do able. He goes a route and on that route is a point where you can pull him without alerting the other mobs. Watch out for the knockback, since he might throw you to the others.

Well for those that are ranged, there is a ledge above the corner hut which he goes back and forth to. I flew to it on my hunter and just waited for him to get close enough to target. If you don't have flying mount you might be able to jump down onto it from above.

• Accept the quest, Drill the Drillmaster, from Force Commander Danath Trollbane, at coords 56.6, 66.6 (Upper level of the Honor Hold Barracks).

Description

I'm receiving reports that the Shattered Hand fel orcs, out in front of Hellfire Citadel, are organizing for what looks like an all-out assault. No doubt, they're not happy about your successes against all of the clans.

Get to the base of the citadel, where the Path of Glory ends. You'll find the fel orcs busy with their preparations, but you're going to catch them with their pants down.

Eliminate the one that's in charge of that force. Kill Drillmaster Zurok!
