The dog will go to several places but only one of them is the real one that you need for the quest. Don't worry if there are more people doing it at the same time, all of them can loot the quest item without even being in the same group.

I ninja'd the quest item from the guy who started the quest, and he wasn't able to loot the quest item. So these people who say more than one person can loot it may or may not be correct. You might have to be in the same group or something, but I had to go by the mats again so the other guy could do the quest.

It seems that for some reason the dog will randomly start itself at times. Last night my partner and I were standing next to Fei Fei and neither one of us had a treat and he randomly started with no one else doing the quest. We were both able to loot the mounds and were done in 15 seconds.

I was looking for Fei-Fei, saw it walking, it made a mound, it dissapeared, it kept walking, made another mound, I clicked it and there were the beads.

I think after someone had gotten theirs the dog keeps going, so I didnt have to buy the treat

This quest has been fixed in the lastest patch to have the beads drop more often. After you get your beads the dog will keep digging but you can no longer click the piles

Still one of the stupidest quests in the expansion, and I have done many while leveling to 70

The phrase "Klaatu barada nikto" originates from the 1951 Cold-War-era science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still. The phrase "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!" was used to stop Gort, the robot in the film, from destroying the world.

There is no known translation for the phrase, although "Klaatu" is the name of the humanoid alien protagonist in the film, while nikto means nobody in Russian.

In World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, two NPCs exist together named Klaatu and Barada. One named Nikto hasn't been sighted yet.

to get the bone you feed to the dog so he search the place up for you is one silken thread can be bought on the left side outside of the inn house. The maiden's anguish can be bought from a reagent vendor which you can find in the tower in honor hold.
then just give the mats to warrant officer to a exchange for a bone. Then feed the dog thats right next to her! Worth the money reward you get and xp take 1 - 2 min!

The other comments suggest the spot is random. Though the dog does go to several random spots, the end is always (54,63) - behind the inn.

I was looking into buying the Fei Fei treat and while searching for the Master leatherwork to buy the "Silken Thread" I stumbled with a mount on the ground.
This is just outside the inn on the back.

Just today did this quest (17th January 2k8), it's no longer needed a "Sparkling Zircon" gem.
To buy Fei Fei Threat I needed just:
- Maiden's Anguish (9s 50c)
- Silken Threat (4s 75c)

Fei Fei won't go to a random place. Mound spawns at 58,56 (on my coords - TitanPanel), just behind the Inn.

You can get the prayer beads right after feeding the dog. Don't waste time following him around. The quest item is outside the inn, in the corner closest to the stables.

Today April 06, 2008, I got the beads after speaking to the warrent officer. I didn't not find the dog or feed the dog, I just went around back of the inn and retrieved the beads from the "sparkling" mound at 54.1 63.3

I've been trying to pick up this quest since lvl 58 (lvl 67 now) and no luck! Tracy has had nothing for me and there has been no 'sparkling' over the mound of dirt behind the inn. Is there something I'm supposed to do to get this or is it a rep thing?

Everyone who keeps saying you don't need to feed the treat is half wrong and half right. If someone has recently done the quest the mound will be there, if no one has done it recently the mound will not be there and you will spend 10 min running around searching. If you don't see a mound behind the inn with sparkles than you have to feed the treat.

I had to get the MAT's for the Doggy Treat (the Warrant Office Tracy Proudwell shows you the MAT's) as the mound was behind the Inn, Once I got the treat followed the dog around and eventually exposed the mound behind the Inn, no dramas.

Opening Tracy Proudwell's vendor tab shows you the price of the dog treat, a Silken Thread. You can buy it from Brumman <Master Leatherworking Trainer> (54.1;64) . Give it to the dog and follow him.
When I did this quest I had to actually wait for the dog to go behind the inn and show me where the item was burried, you could not see it otherwise.

All you need is to go to the master Tailor of Skinning trainer at the Inn and buy 1 silken thread. Take it to 56, 62, buy the treat from the PvP vendor and give it to the dog with the blue question mark. You follow the dog around the area and he'll eventually stop behind the Inn to bury the beads.

You can always try checking behind the Inn first, as you can often loot from the pile thats still there.

This is the easiest ever.
Get the quest.
Go outside the inn.
Hang a left, then a left again towards the back of the inn.
There is a mound of dirt that sparkles.
Right click it, get the beads, take them back inside and collect your experience.
The mound is at or more precisely in honor hold on the hellsfire peninsula.
Yay!

This is a weird one.
Go to in hellfire peninsula.
Right click the anchorite relic in your bag to place it.
When one of the mobs is close enough to the relic a bolt of lightning will shoot out.
Kill the mob.
Killing the mob causes a spirit to appear, so you have to kill the spirit.
Repeat 10 times.
Done!

For those trying to achiveve the 80 quests in Hellfire for "To Hellfire and Back", this is essential.
I was trying to complete this achivement but missed on set of crucial quests:

You no longer need to talk to Fei Fei for quest completion. After you pick up the quest, exit the inn and go around back outside. There should be a mound of dirt with the prayer beads.

As of the Ulduar patch (3.1) , it is necessary to get Fei Fei it's little treat and to follow her until she works her way to the back of the inn. The dirt mound that could normally have been found isn't there until Fei Fei digs it up now.

There has always been a chance for the treat to be at its original spawn point (behind the inn) - however there is occassions where it has not spawned, and you will need to complete this quest, in such case go upstairs in the inn and purchase a Silken Thread, go down to the officer, redeem for a treat, and feed to Fei Fei.
You usually don't have to follow said dog around, and in 30 or so seconds the mount behind the inn will spawn.
I had a friend who was confused that it wasn't there because all of the guides and people in Hellfire told him it would be there. It wasn't, and he had to do the quest.

it's worth noting that the pile is rather small and tucked into a corner. If you do a quick circle of the inn without paying close attention it is easy to miss.

As of 4.0.3, ~~you have to get the dog treat (which requires a silken thread) and~~ Fei Fei is now a pug and no longer a worg.
Since I was doing this also during the elemental attacks, if you choose to follow Fei Fei, be warned Fei Fei will attack the elementals and will die, so make sure you do this after clearing the rift.
If the elemental attacks are over, ignore that last part. (i'll send in a picture of the new Fei Fei soon)

This quest was agonising for me. What made it even harder is that while I was following the dog around, horde had kited Fel Reaver, Pit Commander and a mob of 20 demons into Honor Hold, killed the dog and killed me :(

This quest was dumb for me... and made me feel even dumber for spending about 10 min following the dog and buy it a treat. You don't even need to do that anymore. Get the quest and just go behind the inn and you can find your bread without needing the dog!

I started this quest on Tuesday, August 9 at 5:00 pm server time in order to try and figure this out once and for all. When I started, the pile of dirt wasn't there, and maintenance had finished only about 3 hours before.

I grabbed the doggie treat and gave it to the dog, and the dirt pile didn't immediately appear. After about a minute and a half (using the in-game stopwatch) the dog went behind the inn and caused the dirt pile holding the prayer beads to spawn. Afterward, I went back to questing. 18 minutes later - intending to check in at 15, but I got sidetracked - the dirt pile was still there. 30 minutes after I spawned it, it was still there. One other person had done the exorcism chain, so they may have respawned it, but I don't think so. After another 30 minutes, totalling an hour, it was still there. Even 3 hours after I initially revealed the dirt pile, it was still there.

So either this dirt pile has a ridiculously long despawn timer, or it stays up until the server restarts, at which point it has to be renewed.

I've done this quest multiple times over the years, and I have always just run behind the Inn to grab the prayer beads.

Today however, for the first time, they were not there. I don't know if Blizzard changed this with the recent changes they made to Outland and Northrend, but I had to feed the dog the treat to get it to appear.

As of 4.3.2, Fei Fei's Cache (the mound) will not appear until Fei Fei digs it up, so you'll have to actually do the quest.

If the mound is not there for some people... Just follow this.

Run into the inn and go upstairs then speak with Hama. Now buy one Silken Thread from her.

Now head to Warrant Officer Tracy Proudwell, she is located around (58, 62), to trade the thread for the Fei Fei Doggy Treat.

Give the dog treat to Fei Fei, she is next to Tracy.

Follow Fei Fei while she takes her sweet time getting over to the mound.

Loot the beads and head back to the quest giver, Assistant Klatu.

Finally done with this stupid quest. I honestly would just skip this quest because it is a hassle, but good luck to those that go through with this quest. :)

Did today and nothing was as it says in comments. Got quest, went to dog who had a blue over his head, "he look as me .....", I had no treat. Spoke to Tracy right next to him, asked her about her dog. Then went to back of inn and there was a sparking mount, picked up beads.
Did not have to get thread or use a treat for the dog to go around like I did last time I did this.

I had a bit of trouble figuring this one out, as it was nothing like the (mind you, outdated) comments here told me. Here's what you have to do:

1) Go to the Leatherworking Trainer, Brumman, at 54,63 and buy a Silken Thread from him.

2) Next, go to around 56,62, where you'll find both Fei Fei and Warrant Officer Tracy Proudwell. The dog should have a blue question mark over it's head. Talk to the Warrant Officer and exchange your Silken Thread for a Fei Fei Doggy Treat.

3) Once you have the said item, you should be able to complete a quest to Fei Fei, after which the dog would start skittering around different places and digging the ground but will be 'unsatisfied with this hiding spot' for a couple of times, before eventually leading you to a place where he'll bury the treat, making the object Fei Fei's Cache (so, a pile of dirt) appear and you'll be able to dig up the beads.

4) Once you have the Draenei Prayer Beads, just return to Assistant Klatu inside the inn and ta-da -- quest complete!

As of new patch (updated for me today, 11/9/2013) the cache behind the inn is no longer there, you have to buy the silken thread from Hama upstairs (in room next to questgiver), then take it to Warrant Officer Tracy Proudwell, exchange thread for dog treat, give treat to dog, wait for dog to wander around half of Honor Hold digging up random stuff til it gets to the spot behind the inn (54.63), it'll dig and THEN the clickable mound of dirt appears.

At this this is what happened for me today. May be a bug, but I DID abandon quest and reaccept it, and still the same thing.

I'm not sure if Blizzard have "fixed" this in a recent patch but today I HAD to purchase the thread, swap it for a doggy treat and follow Fei Fei around before the mound with the beads would appear.

Mind you, it was still behind the inn but the first time I did this quest just after TBC release they could also be found behind the blacksmith shop.

As of 7.0.3 the mound of Dirt behind the inn will not appear till Fei fei digs it up, so you have to go though all the motions getting the treat and following the dog around. But only one person needs to do it anyone on the quest can loot the mound for a small window after fei fei digs it up regardless if you are grouped or not

I think they fixed this quest so you HAVE to go the old way. After years of just walking around back of the inn and just picking them up, today I walked back there and they aren't there anymore. So much for the 'good old days'.

Resonally, I'd rather kick the 'precious' little thing for stealing in the first place. Pugs may be cute but only if they aren't spoiled.

Edit. Confirmed of 4 different lvl 60+ toons. Had to go through the whole thing of feeding the dog the treat and following it.

Although you could just head behind the in, to the suspicious looking pile in the niche at the back labeled Fei Fei's Cache; what you are supposed to - if you read the quest text - is talk to it's owner and purchase the treat for 1 silk thread. Why on earth she requires silk thread instead of, say - cash money is beyond me.

To obtain said silk, you can either go upstairs in the in to the Tailoring trainer, or head round the other side of the inn where the Leatherworking Trainer is sitting in a half-drunken stupor.

Once you have the thread, you can exchange it for the dog treats (still mystified why) offer the treat and follow the creature to the cache.

For some reason, at 12/10/2022, the dirt patch didn't appear behind the tavern as it usually does - I had to buy Silken Thread from Tailoring vendor Hama, located in a nearby room to Klatu, trade it for dog treat at the center of the stronghold, feed the dog nearby, follow it to the usual spot and only after that clickable dirt appeared.
Maybe it was changed, since I leveled multiple characters at BC zones and never had to feed the dog, or I was just lucky before, but if you don't see the dirt, you can try feeding the dog, it should appear after.

I am ashamed to admit that my prayer beads were lost in Honor Hold's courtyard. I believe the dog Fei Fei stole them and buried them, but I do not know where. If you speak with his master, Warrant Officer Tracy Proudwell, perhaps she will know where Fei Fei hides his stolen treasures.
