The Feast of Winter Veil is one of 12 World Events that runs for two weeks, beginning in mid December and ending just after New Years. In addition to the many events running during this world event, players are tasked with completing several objectives in order to gain achievements. Getting all of the achievements done will allow the player to gain the meta achievement Merrymaker, and the title Merrymaker <name>.

This meta achievement is required for What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, in which the reward is a Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake mount.

In order to complete the meta achievement, you will need to complete the following tasks:

-- 'Tis the Season: Wear three pieces of Holiday Gear and eat Graccu's Mince Meat Fruitcake
-- A Frosty Shake: Turn yourself into a snowman using a Winter Veil Disguise Kit and /dance with another snowman in Dalaran
-- Bros. Before Ho Ho Ho's: Use Mistletoe on your factions "Brothers" spread throughout Azeroth. You get the Mistletoe from /kissing the Winter Revelers in various Inns.
-- Fa-la-la-la-Orgri'la: Perform the daily quest Bomb Them Again while your mount is turned into a reindeer
-- Let It Snow: Use a Handful of Snowflakes on a predetermined list of race/class combinations. You get the Handful of Snowflakes from /kissing the Winter Revelers in various Inns.
-- On Metzen!: Simple. Save Metzen the reindeer.
-- Scrooge: Throw a Snowball at your factions leader: King Magni Bronzebeard or Cairne Bloodhoof
-- Simply Abominable: It's a quest to kill the Abominable Greench!
-- The Winter Veil Gourmet: You need to have at least 325 cooking skill in order to finish this. You need to make a Gingerbread Cookie, Egg Nog, and Hot Apple Cider.
-- With a Little Helper from My Friends: This was the most time consuming for me. You use a gnome transformation capsule located in various places throughout Azeroth to turn you into a Little Helper, then gain 50 honorable kills.

There are other achievements associated with this world event, some of which are no longer available in game, and others which are not required to be completed to obtain the meta achievement.

-- BB King: Requires you to shoot the opposing factions leaders. I'm assuming that it's going to be done with 2009's Winter Veil gift.
-- Crashin' & Thrashin': Required you to gain 25 crashes with the gift from 2008, a Crashin' Thrashin' Racer.
-- He Knows If You've Been Naughty: You have to open a gift under Greatfather Winter's Tree. Not required for the meta-achievement.

Overall, I like this world event. It may take some time to complete, due to the PvP Achievement, but there is nothing too terribly hard to complete. The Ogri'la daily quest Bomb Them Again is now easily unlocked without having to perform the whole chain of quests.

Seems to be a lot of confusion about the hats this year (post Cataclysm 2010).
Here is my experience, disregard the "dates" in the Blizzard statement everyone is throwing around, as it seems to be inaccurate.

Northrend Dungeons:
Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!
Jedoga Shadowseeker in Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!
Mage-Lord Urom in The Oculus: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 0% - 3% Approximate DROP!

Cataclysm Dungeons:
Lord Godfrey in Shadowfang Keep: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!
Drahga Shadowburner in Grim Batol: Green Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!
High Priestess Azil in The Stonecore: Red Winter Hat
Heroic: 100% DROP!
Normal: 3% - 14% Approximate DROP!

As always your mileage may vary as far as the NORMAL MODE drops are concerned, all in all if your REALLY want the hat, run a heroic.
There is of course always the slight less than 1% chance you can loot either of these hats off of any HUMANOID mob in the game.
Don't count on it however.

Please be mindful that Wowhead receives it's data from it's users, so the loot tables of the for-mentioned Bosses can be, and probably are inaccurate to some degree just from not many people looting the hats and uploading the data.
Also, the bosses get looted thousands of times when the holiday even is NOT going on, so if the hat appears on the loot table, the drop percentage is likely horribly inaccurate as well.

When, what to my bloodshot eyes should appear,
But a battle-scarred sleigh, and eight ragged reindeer.

With a cold-as-ice driver, not some Alliance bother,
but I knew in that moment it must be Greatfather.
More rapid than Wind Riders his coursers they came,
And he screamed, and bellowed, and belittled them by name!

"Now Digsnout! now, Drimsnap! now, Protspec and Vexxer!

As priests that before Al'Akir fly,

There's going to be a one-off World PvP event based around the tabletop game "Blood Bowl", everyone gets either 橄榄球 or a 特别版足球 from Great-Father Winter and can use it to take part, but it's only around for one day as a tribute to the World War 1 Xmas Truces.

Everyone who competes will receive a Feat of Strength and an in game mail from Sir Thrall McCartney containing a 猢狲长杆烟斗.

I am at Orgrimmar right now and there are NO Winter Veil anyone or anything here now. It says on the calender it's not over until Jan 2nd! Is anyone else not seeing it? I just did the quests yesterday and they were here....

How the Mammoths Stole Winterveil

Every Toon
down in Ironforge
liked Winterveil a lot.

But the Mounts
who lived just North of IF,
did NOT!

The Mounts hated Winterveil! The whole Winterveil season!
Now, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason.
It could be that their riders weren't sitting quite right.
It could be, perhaps, that their reins were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
was their little mount hearts were two sizes too small.

But whatever the reason,
his rider or reins,
one Mammoth stood there on Winter's Eve, glowering with pains.
Staring down from his cave with a sour, mammothy frown
at the forge-lit windows glowing below in the town.
For he knew every player in IF beneath
was busy now, killing the big nasty Greench.

"And they're mogging their armor!" he snarled with a sneer.
"Tomorrow is Winterveil! It's practically here!"
Then he growled, with his mammoth hooves nervously drumming,
"I MUST find a way to stop these gifts from coming!"
For, tomorrow, he knew...

...all the players, girls and boys,
would wake up bright and early and port for their toys.
And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the noise! Noise! Noise! Noise!
That's one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!

Then the players, young and old, would get all the achievs,
and they'd "Ding!" and they'd "Ding!"
and they'd "DING! DING! DING! DING!"
Their friends would say "grats", and they'd get a new Feat.
which was something that mount couldn't stand in the least!

And THEN
They'd do something he liked least of all!
Every player in I.F., the tall and the small,
Would stand close together, with Winter bells ringing.
They'd lay out a train set. And the Toons would start screaming!

They'd "chug!" and they'd "chug!"
and they'd "CHOO! CHOO! CHOO! CHOO!"
and that noise was something that mammoth thought just wouldn't do.
And the more that mount thought of the Ironforge scream
the more that he thought, "I must stop this whole thing!
"Why for fifty-three patches I've put up with it now!
I MUST stop these Winterveil gifts from coming!
...But HOW?"

Why are there scantily clad "Female Winter Revelers" but the "Male Winter Revelers" are all covered up? It should be equal - either everyone is in crop tops and short shorts or everyone is covered up!

I'm hoping they will *scale* the boss this year with their new "tech". What I mean is if you go there as a level 67(for example) he will appear as that instead of a level 112 mob or whatever. It would just make it more "fun" for your alts than just feeling like you're leeching and being completely useless.

Just in case you're like me and playing on Alliance. The daily quests cannot be completed in Shadowmoon Valley where they are marked on the map. You have to fly all the way to Frostfire Ridge.

Are there any prerequisites for being able to open all of the gifts on the 25th? Such as, bringing Greatfather Winter his milk and cookies, or dispatching the Greench? It seems in seasons past that some of my toons received less gifts than others.

Against my better judgement, (remembering the Halloween quests) I sent my 111 lvl Shadow Priest to have some fun, but this was not fun! WHY OH WHY IS EVERYTHING SO HARD TO KILL? He died... really fast, and that folks was not fun! The holiday is suppose to be fun and games...and not games that kill ya! I suppose Blizzard will have a Santa next year that carries an automatic weapon! I say BAH HUMBUG and won't be doing these quests again! Blizzard...for a time that is suppose to be joyful, not deadly...tone it down a tad!

So, for 2020, no achievement for "Proud owner of the 2020 Vintage Winter Veil gift, Wreath-A-Rang. ? I looked back and saw where we got an achievement, and also I recalling it dinging, when you opened up the vintage gift each year. Or maybe the vintage gift was supposed to be Jingles? Kinda wanted the achievement so I could keep up my gift streak each year.

As I do with World Events... I've made an AddOn, which I uploaded to Curse, and it gives a ton of information about completing this World Event.

If you do care to download then I hope that you found it useful. Players unfamiliar with the layout of opposing capital cities will especially like my BB King information. While on BBKing... for heaven's sake get yourself a macro /tar eitrigg (or whomever) so you have one less thing to worry about as you frantically surge forward.

As the festival nears its end, at 10 am PST on December 25th (corresponding with Christmas Day)
