I still think its totaly stupid from blizzard to give a Ground mount, for the 400 mount achievement, yeah you can show it off for a few month, then we get flying in BFA, and no one will ever use it again.

Even some of the other models for lower numbers of mounts, are way better, so why give a crappy looking mount for some thing that req way more work to get?

Grats on first price, you get this Skoda Fabia 2000 edition, with a new paint.
Grats on second Price, you get a Porsche Panamera.

Has Blizzard changed the fact that class mounts don't count towards this now? Both my druid and paladin have the same amount of mounts collected but the paladin has more class mounts.

My observations on how to manipulate the mount counter for this achievement:

1. CLASSES WITH CLASS MOUNTS
Some classes (Paladin, DK, Warlock) have their own class mounts which gives you additional points to your counter when you log onto them, the counter stays updated to the highest amount even if you log back to a class without class mounts.

Experiment & observation:

On my monk, the counter says 380 mounts.
I log paladin, the counter now adds +2 class mounts, it now shows 382 mounts.
I log back onto monk, the counter still shows 382.
On my monk, I have 3 mounts in my bag.
I learn mount #1 - the counter does not move.
I learn mount #2 - the counter does not move.
I learn mount #3 - the counter updates to 383.
I log paladin, 2 class mounts are added, updating the counter to 385.

NOTE for Argent tournament: The paladin can buy one additional mount at the Argent tournament 銀白戰騎, increasing class mount advantage from 2 to 3.

Summary: Relog to characters with class mounts to update the counter to the highest possible number. If you have a paladin, do argent tournament on it to get an additional class mount.

2. PROFESSION MOUNTS
You do not need to have mount-giving professions on one character to maximize counter.

Experiment & observation

On my monk, I have engineering with 2 mounts.
On my paladin, I have tailoring with 4 carpet mounts.
On my paladin, I learn engineering
In practice, I can now use 2 additional engineering mounts on my paladin
HOWEVER the mount counter did not increase.

Summary: I am not 100% sure about this, but my theory is as follows: As long as you have at least one character on your account with a unique-mount profession (Engineering, Tailoring, Leatherworking) and have the mounts learned, they should contribute to the global counter. Putting tailoring and engineering/leatherworking on a single character to maximize the counter is not necessary.

3. LEGION ORDER-HALL MOUNTS
I can confirm with 100% certainty, that these mounts contribute to the global mount-counter even if other classes cannot use them.

Experiment & observation

I completed the order-hall mount quest on my mage.
The counter did not increase, because my mage has less mounts than some of my other characters.
I log paladin (character with most mounts), the counter is updated by +1.
Edit: completed order-hall mount on 2 more characters - they each added +1 to the counter on relogging to my paladin

Summary: Acquire order hall mounts on all possible classes (except druid) to maximize counter.

4. OTHER FACTION'S ALLIED-RACE MOUNTS
I confirm that completing the other faction's allied-race scenarios increases the counter on your main faction.

Experiment & observation

I completed the Nightborne and Highmountain scenario on my Horde Druid
On relogging to my Alliance Paladin, the counter increase by +1 each time

5. TL;DR VERSION

The ‘usable-by-a-single-character’ clause seems to be misleading.
Participate in the Argent Tournament on your paladin to increase class-mount advantage from 2 to 3.
You can have the profession-specific mounts on any character. Don't bother putting tailoring with engineering/leatherworking on a single character to maximize counter.
Complete the order-hall mount quests on each class, since they all contribute individually to the global counter (except probably druid).
Complete all allied race quests if possible, mounts from the other faction count.

These are my observations for gaming the mount counter in the achievement and getting it as efficiently as possible. Good luck!

When you have collected 400 mount for achi (me 448 on account) ... then you probably have been in the game for many years. Then it's the worst prize you can get ... like so many other things loyal players are exposed to in the game now ... a shame!

While there are many comments and threads about mount collecting achievements, I would like to make clear a few things since they are still debatable.

As of patch 8.1 there is a chain of 10 achievements starting by collecting 10 mounts to the last one which is gained by collecting 400 mounts
Note that currently there are 497 obtainable mounts (that can count toward the achievement counter (or as blizzard says: 'Usable by a single character' but this is not a true statement as we will see below)

Just for reference these achievements are listed below:
1. 獸欄管理者

4. 堆積如山的坐騎 / 堆積如山的坐騎 that gives you 藍色龍鷹 / 紅色龍鷹

6. 坐騎大遊行 / 坐騎大遊行 that gives you 裝甲藍色龍鷹 / 裝甲紅色龍鷹

Before we begin, lets make clear that the number that appears in your collection tab is not the one that matters for the achievement because this number represents the total number of mounts you own on YOUR ACCOUNT
There are many mounts (mostly main cities/racial mounts) that have a counterpart in the opposite faction.
For example if you obtain the 冬泉霜刃豹韁繩 in an alliance toon you will automatically obtain 毒皮暴掠龍之哨 in your horde toons
That means that in your collection tab will be added 2 mounts but actually in your achievement tracker will be added 1 mount (since a specific character can use 1 additional mount, not 2).

First of all, all mounts are acount-wide except 瓦許伊爾海馬 but some of them are not counting on all of your toons
Below I will list the mounts that can confuse you since some of them are counting on all of your toons but some of them aren't

CONTROVERSIAL MOUNTS

-PROFESSION MOUNTS
There are some profession mounts that can craft/learn/ride only while you own a specific profession BUT ONCE YOU LEARN THEM THEY ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS. That mean that it doesnt mater if you learn them in you main/alt and you can even delete this profession once you learn these mounts.
These mounts are:
Tailoring: 飛毯 , 莊嚴飛毯 , 寒霜飛毯 , 爬行飛毯
Leatherworking: 騎乘鞍座 , 領角鹿騎乘鞍座

-LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS
ALL LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM NO MATTER IF THEY CAN USE THEM
That means that every new class hall mount that you learn in a new class (using your alts) is counting as a '+1' in your achievement.
You have a potential of +21 Mounts (toward the achievement) if you collect each one of the class hall mounts (pretty challenging tbh)
Priest: 大祭司光誓追尋者
Mage: 大法師稜彩圓盤
Death Knight: 邪裔鎮壓者腐朽韁繩
Monk: 班盧，宗師良伴
Warrior: 戰鬥領主嗜血戰龍鋼鐵韁繩
Shaman: 狂怒風暴圖騰
Demon Hunter: 斬魔者破魔尖嘯獸
Hunter: 恐怖狼鷹的信任 , 勇猛狼鷹的信任 and 忠誠狼鷹的信任
Rogue: 致命掠鴉韁繩 , 血色掠鴉韁繩 , 禍害掠鴉韁繩 and 影尊劫殺掠鴉
Paladin: 閃閃發光的大領主黃金戰騎韁繩 , 冷酷無情的大領主復仇戰騎韁繩 , 世代相傳的大領主悍勇戰騎韁繩 and 堅定不移的大領主警戒戰騎韁繩
Warlock: 虛空領主混沌憤怒戰馬 , 虛空領主厄運憤怒戰馬 and 虛空領主硫磺憤怒戰馬

-CLASS MOUNTS ***NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH LEGION CLASS HALL MOUNTS***
SOME CLASS MOUNTS ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM NO MATTER IF THEY CAN USE THEM BUT THERE ARE SOME OF THEM THAT AREN'T)
Below I will list/show you which are these mounts and how they are working:

MOUNTS THAT ARE COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS ONCE YOU LEARN THEM
Warlock: 惡魔戰馬 , 恐懼戰馬
Death Knight: 亞榭洛死亡戰騎
Paladin: 銀白戰騎 (This can be bought in cost of 100 勇士徽印 )

MOUNTS THAT ARE ***NOT*** COUNTING ON ALL OF YOUR TOONS
Paladin: 召喚主教的伊萊克 , 召喚大主教伊萊克
Demon Hunter: 魔刃豹

As we can see, Paladins got 2 mounts that are counting only on them while Demon Hunter's got only 1
That makes Paladins the holders of the highest possible number in the game.
Theorytically speaking, you dont even need Demon Hunter's 魔刃豹 as you can see.

-VASHJ'IR MOUNT ***NOT ACCOUNT WIDE***
瓦許伊爾海馬
THIS MOUNT NEED TO BE OBTAINED ON EACH TOON INDIVIDUALLY.
Its CRUSIAL to obtain this mount on your PALADIN in order to get the highest possible number because if you don't, your paladin will got 1 less mount than the higher possible number.
In order to Obtain this mount you need to complete a short questline starting with 決勝時刻 and ending with 深淵坐騎
If the starting quest is not available for you, make sure to complete the attunement quests of Broken Isles / Argus / Kul TIras or Zandalar, then the quest will be available for you.

Keep in mind that the achievement tracker counts each time you log in with a toon.
For example if you log in with your Paladin and your Paladin got the highest number of mounts (lets say: 382), then when you log in in your main the counter will still say '382', even if you get one more mount the tracker will not change but the next time you will log in with your paladin the tracker will say '383'
You can check each toon's mounts in Achievements tab -> Statistics -> Character -> Mounts Owned

-HOW TO GET THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE NUMBERS OF MOUNTS
-Have a Paladin and level him at least to level 80 (that will grants you the 召喚主教的伊萊克 , 召喚大主教伊萊克 and gives you the accessibility to obtain the 瓦許伊爾海馬
-Get 瓦許伊爾海馬 on your Paladin
-Learn Leatherworking and Tailoring and Create/Learn the 6 mounts we mentioned above (after you learn them you are free to delete your profession or whatever you want)
-Have a Warlock at level 40 ( at level 40 you have learned both 惡魔戰馬 and 恐懼戰馬 )
-Have a Death Knight (no matter what level your DK will be, you only need his 亞榭洛死亡戰騎 )
*Dont forget 銀白戰騎 that can be obtained only by Paladin but I scarcely listed it here since we can consider it as a normal mount

At this Point your Paladin will be +2 mounts that anyother toon (if this toon got 瓦許伊爾海馬 ) otherwise will be +3.
You dont have to log in to your Paladin everytime you obtain a new mount, Just make sure to do it when you are 2-3 mounts away from an achievement

well i don't know what happened. I've been sitting at 245/250 in the Mountacular achievement for months. At first I thought I was just remembering the number, but today I earned two brand new mounts and achievement tracker still says 245/250. This is on a paladin with the engineering mounts as well.

I just aqcuired this today, I feel exhausted. When I hit 350 I thought to myself "there's no way I'll get 400", even with the onslaught of mounts from the war zones and rare mounts from the void invasions. I only obtained four mounts from the void invasions, two of which were bought, but I was on my way to 400. At one point I was at 399. So close, yet so far. There were still vendor mounts I could buy, the ridiculously overpriced gryphon mounts from the factions, the even more ridiculously overpriced AH mount and the one triceratops, but I wanted to finish the achievement without buying anything and so I continued the grind, trying to get Mimiron's head (after all these years), Midnight, mech from Harvester, plus a few others.

What finally ticked it over was that stupid Ember wyrm from Kara. You would think that at even a 20% chance that it wouldn't have taken me almost a year to get it... ugh. BUT, the patience paid off and I was able to finally hit that 400 AND get a mount I had been wanting for a long time (even before I could solo Kara, no one would let me in their group when it was current content). I was also happy that it was on my main that I have farmed nearly all the mounts on (with the exception of extra racial and faction mounts of course).

I also would thank those that gifted me a few engineering mounts a couple years ago, though they don't play anymore, they did help contribute to this goal and without them, I'd still be working on it. This was also the first time I've completed the mount achievement being only one expansion behind, usually it's two or three and since there is (as of yet) no new 450 mount achievement, this makes it even better. SO. Keep pushing, keep grinding and soon you'll have your 400!

Why does Blizzard make all of this so difficult... :s
Does anyone have any info on covenant mounts? Will all the mounts from the 4 different covenants count on 1 single character like the legion class mounts do?
Or does only 1 covenant count towards these 400 mounts?
I leveled an alt with a different covenant and the mounts gained by that alt don't seem to count on my main... So I tend to believe only the mounts of 1 covenant count towards the total for this achievement.

I am completely at a loss. I have been stuck at 382 for ages - the Baradin's Wardens mounts did not move the needle; neither did Lucky Yun. I have logged onto every toon; the count is always the same. I have read everything I could get my hands on. I filled out a ticket and Blizz said "we can't help you with achievements." Damn. Why is this so complicated?

I was at 399 of 400 for this achievement a week ago. I reached that level when I received the Wandering Ancient. Then yesterday morning, I received the Amber Ardenmoth from a Wild Hunt Supply cache. All of my toons can use this mount (I tried on all my 60's). However, this mount did not advance the count to 400. Then I purchased the 30th Anniversary package to see if that mount would advance the counter. It did not. I submitted a ticket and received a form reply back. It was all useless information and displayed a complete lack of customer support. They even said to look at Wowhead. When I did, I found that others are having the same problem. So I resubmitted and asked for a real person to look at this issue. let's see what happens? I would assume that there are not many of us at this achievement level, so I am assuming we are very low priority. Still, the lack of customer support from Blizzard is extremely frustrating.

I got this on an alt (blood elf paladin) when I was rare farming and got Witherbark Direwing, even though I'm sure it counted toward my main's (undead mage) mounts.

I can confirm that creating a Lightforged Draenai Paladin (even though I already have a Tauren one) adds 1 mount towards the counter because of 召喚光鑄古境塔巴克. Very useful for the ones who are stuck out there. Good luck! :)

There are a couple of things I find extremely disappointing about this achievement.

First, you would think with the level of effort it takes a player to reach this achievement that Blizzard would reward us with a unique mount, not just a recolor of another mount. It's sad that I would much rather use other mounts I have obtained along the way to 400 than the reward I got once I reached that achievement. I would hope if and when they add a 450 mount achievement that Blizzard won't be so lazy with that mount reward.

Second, on the topic of a 450 mount achievement, it's very disappointing that Blizzard has not added another level or two for collectors. In a 2020 Panda TV interview about Shadowlands with Ion Hazzikostas, he was asked if Blizzard intended to extend the goal-oriented collection achievement levels for toys and mounts. He said they intend to "inch up those collect X different mounts" achievements, but that they don't want to make achievements that are too "extreme" and they don't want the "process to be overly frustrating" for those who feel they must earn completionist achievements. That justification makes absolutely no sense to me. There are plenty of other rewards that the average player is never going to attain, like a mythic raiding mount drop or the gladiator mounts (which by the way are generally way cooler than what we get for the mount collecting achievements). To me, holding back on giving us 450+ mount collecting achievements because they are frustrating to achieve is like giving every kid a participation trophy so that nobody feels like they got left out. When did it become a bad thing to expect people to put forth some effort to get what they want?
