To craft this item, you need 5 Bolt of Windwool Cloth, or 25 Windwool Cloth.

Deathsilk Shoulders, a cloth shoulder made by Tailors skilled in Cataclysm Tailoring.

To craft this item, you need 3 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth (or 15 Embersilk Cloth) and 2 Eternium Thread.

Frostwoven Leggings, a cloth legging made by Tailors with skills in Northrend Tailoring.

To craft this item, you need 5 Bolt of Frostweave (or 25 Frostweave Cloth) and 1 Eternium Thread.

Netherweave Tunic, a cloth chest made by Tailors skilled in Outland Tailoring.

To craft this item, you need 8 Bolt of Netherweave (or 40 Netherweave Cloth) and 2 Rune Thread.

Proximo's Rudius, a one-handed sword.

This sword can be bought in Halaa, in Outland Nagrand. Aldraan sells the sword for the Alliance, and Coreiel for the Horde.

Rough Wooden Staff, a two-handed staff.

This staff can be bought from Inscription vendors in any major city.

Punctured Pelt, a gray-quality, trash item.

This item can be bought from the Aspen Grove Trader in Grizzly Hills. This NPC will be hostile for Alliance players who have completed the quest Escape from Silverbrook, so you'll need to either buy the item from the Auction House or swap to a character that has not done this questline.

Formula: Enchant Ring - Striking, a defunct Enchanting formula.

This item can be bought from Ythyar. This NPC is located inside Karazhan, just before the Chess Event.

Quick Rundownin the correct order

Complete the two previous secrets to unlock access to the Waist of Time puzzle: Uuna's Storyline and the Baa'l Battle Pet.

Obtain the following items. Make sure not to vendor them (as some of them are junk and can be auto-sold by specific add-ons). More specific directions on how to earn each item can be found later in the guide, but they can all be purchased from the Auction House.

/slap Aquinastrasz, the flight master of Vermillion Redoubt, in Twilight Highlands.
/wave at Karnum Marshweaver by the moonwell at the Cenarion Wildlands, in Desolace.
/cheer at Noggra, the General Goods vendor, at the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak.
/dance with Stained Mug, the innkeeper at Shado-Pan Fallback, in Kun-Lai Summit.
Return to Grimmy's house by the forgotten farm in the Arathi Highlands. If the above step is completed, you can interact with a new note - By Grimmy's fireplace.
Locate the Rotten Potato by the farms outside of Grimmy's House. Clicking it will give you a stacking buff, Rotten Potato. Get 144 stacks of Rotten Potato—no more, no less.
Return to Grimmy and talk to him again once you have 144 stacks of Rotten Potato. There will be a new dialogue option about your smell.
After exhausting your new dialogue option with Grimmy, leave his house and loot the Waist of Time from Grimmy's Rusty Lockbox, located on the roof of Grimmy's House.

After emoting all of Grimmy's enemies (make sure the macro on the step above says all true), it's time to return to the forgotten farmstead once again. If done correctly, Grimmy should have a new dialogue option:

Oh, that is excellent. But still, I… er… hm.

After this dialogue, a new note will appear, this time by Grimmy's fireplace! This note tells his favorite recipe:

A pinch of tumeric and a pound of salt, if it comes out poorly, it’s your own fault.

Pay attention to the broth, and stir, stir, stir!
Then add a big handful of board fur.

Last, you need a little sour,
Get the kick with a little gunpowder!

After talking to Grimmy, go outside and locate the Rotten Potato within the abandoned farms.

You will need to click Rotten Potato 144 times, exactly. Be careful because you can go over 144 stacks of this debuff, and if you do, you will have to start all over. After you obtain 144 stacks, go back to Grimmy, who will have yet another dialogue option:

Very well, I will show you... my life's work!
It's in the chest out back, and it's all yours!
I hope it was worth it!

After this, Grimmy will leave you with a Marker, and you can fly above his house to loot Grimmy's Rusty Lockbox, containing the Waist of Time!

Your TomTom directions/coordinates are messed up, other than that, good guide.

The Strange Seed can be located close to the Everbloom portal above Stormwind City, at 42 75 on the Eastern Kingdoms map.

Give a zone, give coordinates in that zone. But constantly interchanging from continent, to zone, to local directions.. it's just complicated for nothing.

Not sure why, but Grimmy wasn't there when I flew in. Also, "The Forbidding Sea" zone/map text was green, like I was in a faction capital. This was right around the time of reset (not sure if it was a bug?), so I logged out and back in and he was there as well as the map/text going back to white.

Most of the traveling takes place in the Eastern Kingdoms, so this is best suited to Alliance players.

NOTE: Not sure if this was a bug for me (like HELL I'm going to test this again!) but I was unable to get the first clue to appear for a different character besides the one who had captured Baa'l. I seemed to be locked in.

Assuming you're a lazy person like me who didn't get Draenor flying and who also didn't do this on a mage, the main thing you'll want to do is conserve your hearthstones. If you're quick about your business, it'll be a pain to wait on them every time to finish cooling down. There's so much back and forth between Draenor and Outland that it isn't worth it to use them unless you'll be staying in one or the other for long enough.
Best classes: Mage (portals), Druid (dreamwalk). Mage portals are great for traversing between continents and worlds, but dreamwalk makes crossing the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor an absolute breeze. Since you have three hearthstones at your disposal (regular, Garrison, and Dalaran), as long as you're wise about when you use them, a druid could easily nail this quest in no time flat... Maybe with a little help from a mage to get between Draenor and Outland.

Great tools:

Hearthstone: Set this to the Shrine in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Garrison: Mage tower with portals to Spires of Arak/Shadowmoon Valley, Stables
Ever-Shifting Mirror: Gives you no-cooldown teleportation between Draenor and Outland. This is great if you skipped Draenor flying. Get it from Burning Crusade Timewalking.
Aviana's Feather: Aviana's feather increases your movement speed by 614% while flying--better than flying mounts. Get it from a Garrison Inn mission in Skyreach.
Glowing mog weapons: Weapons that cast actual light (Such as the staff Soulkeeper, the mace Grayson's Torch, several wands, off hand lanterns, etc) can help finding items in dark areas and navigating dark-textured geometry. The light cast on the ground makes the floor's shape more apparent.
FLIP ZIDORMI: In the Blasted Lands, if you try to fly through the Dark Portal while it's red, it sometimes does nothing. Talk to Zidormi, ask to see the zone's past. When the portal is green, fly through. You can get to Ashran. Remember this!

Starting out, the first few between Draenor and Outland are not great without wasting your hearthstones a lot. Use the Ever-Shifting Mirror if you have it. It saves a ton of time. Regardless:

Alliance Garrison: Fly to Akeeta's Hovel, use Aviana's Feather.
Horde Garrison: Build a spirit lodge and at least one portal for Spires of Arak. Consider it required!

"After this feat, Terokk was revered like a living legend, some arakkoa even declaring he is the reincarnation of Rukhmar himself." From clue 5.

One error in this, Rukhmar is a female, so it should be "... declaring he is the reincarnation of Rukhmar herself"

In clue 6, the shadowmoon orcs did not create the dark star. K'ara became the "dark star" because of other reasons, reasons completely unrelated to the Shadowmoon orcs.

Another error is in clue 10, Medivh is not dead. His mother brought him back just before the events of the third war and we even saw him in Legion at the end of the Return to Karazhan dungeon. Whoever wrote the little lore sections of his guide clearly does not know the lore.

WARNING
I turned back time to access that Arathi Highlands part of the quest, when I tried to use the BfA portal to Stormgarde (Alliance Arathi Highlands town) i got stuck under ground and had to report the character as stuck via an alt.

Luckily they have a built in tool for this via alts under the 'Open Ticket' option but try not to make the same mistake that I did.

The one thing I would like detail on, if at all possible, is *what* the outfit is supposed to represent.

After talking to Grimmy, equip the Windwool Hood, Deathsilk Shoulders, Netherweave Tunic, Frostwoven Leggings.

What are these things in reference to? I understand it's not important, as such, but I enjoy following the trail of breadcrumbs, and would very much love to know where this one came from!

The waypoint command for the Strange Seed doesn't match the one in the description and sends me all the way off the Lordaeron coast.

I'm at the last part with Grimmy. Seems like /cheer in Zul drak doesn't seem to work and I have no idea what I did wrong. Running the script it says true true false true and no matter how may times i've tried, it stays this way. Anyone any idea?

Turtle Bringer could refer to how the goblins mounted cabins on giant sea turtles, providing the Horde with submarines during the Second War. The Fuselight goblins are members of the Steamwheedle Cartel like those that joined Orgrim's Horde.
Granted, Chronicle doesn't include this, but only just as it speaks of how the goblins helped build the Horde's navy.

The 'Odd Cup' is pretty easy to spot, but just in case; if you've taken Rulkan as a follower then she won't appear next to the campfire as shown in the guide's pic.

This might be a non-issue for most but if you intended to do this part on an alt after you obtained Baa'l than you will NOT be able to see the orbs. You have to either do this on the original character you when through the items to obtain Baa'l or run through the same steps with the alt before the orbs show up.

The "Turtle Bringer" anagram perhaps references the game then the book. Goblins in Warcraft 2 turned Giant Turtles into Submarines in the game for Horde and is the most likely the reason. It's also the only Steamwheedle Cartel Goblin Town in the area that the Second War was fought.

Is there an explanation of how all these steps were determined, particularly the Grimmy stuff? For example:

How did they figure out those four pieces of crafted gear to wear?
How did they figure out which "enemy" NPCs to interact with while having which random items in their bags?
How did they know to click the potato 144 times and none of the other rotting veggies scattered about the farm?

I would love to know, as it all seems incredibly random. It strains belief that anyone could legitimately figure this stuff out. But hey, I guess that makes it all the more impressive.

I have a serious problem with the Waist of Time quest. Grimmy refuses to show up even after going back in time to the old Arathi. He phases in upon login for 3 seconds then vanishes (screenshotted right before he phased): https://imgur.com/u2bB3C8 Blizzard refuses to help me address it saying it is a secret. The last 7 (out of 43) steps are saying false, however all others are true when I run the script to check:

When you are doing the potato part. Make sure to go to exactly 88, 69 in the field. Turn your graphics setting down to ONE so you can see the potato. There will only be ONE single potato in the field ..so you can click it repeatedly to gain the 144 stack. Congrats on your Waist of Time !

You need to have summoned Baa'l at least once to be able to see the first orb.
Check your progress with the following makro (not mine), but be aware that step #16 is summoning him and step 17 is the first clue - the lit orb:

Coordinates for the strange seed are still off by quite a bit. I hit up the listed location, no seed, no portal, just an empty bit of coastline. You gotta fly up pretty high to even see the portal from the given coordinates.

My coordinates when standing directly on top of the strange seed were 42.32, 75.24 in the Eastern Kingdoms. (not elewen, not stormwind).

After following this guide to obtain my Waist of Time, I have to say that it could use a better explanation of the purpose of the grey items. It just says when you need them, but not at all what to do with them, why they are important, or to which npc each item has relevance. I was expecting the items to be consumed (and taken) out of my bag or to have to equip or use them in some way.

Also, I know it's not the point of this guide, but does anyone know the actual relevance, lore-wise, of the individual items in relation to the emote npcs or Grimmy? I'm just so put off by the seemingly random nature of this entire puzzle. Even a lot of the "clues" require HUGE leaps of logic to solve them. Kudos to those who solved this, but I did not like the design.

what is up with the coords in this guide? they are completely wrong. I just did the Everbloom dungeon trying to get the seed and I read that it is at 42 75 Eastern Kingdoms.... but then the picture gives different coords again, 19 53 Elwynn Forest? and the &*!@ing thing isn't there anyway? do I need to run it on heroic? mythic? is it actually not in the dungeon at all but actually outside Stormwind? why did you not put that in the guide, I've been running around looking for a seed in the instance!

For everyone who does this Questline and the Uuna questline, whenever u are in a zone which has a present and past, u always need to be in the "past", to do all the steps.

I was confused about the gnome skeleton beeing not there when i got to arathi highlands until i realised i was in the present which is the warfront...

Its somehow a bit annoying that u always need to talk to Zodormi before u can do certain steps.

And a somehow funny fact, when u look at the warfront arathi map the farm is noticed there, but when u travel to the past and look at the map there is nothing, but u need to go to the past where u see nothing on the map to do the steps in arathi there. Somehow blizzard has such ironic things everywhere in there game, sometimes its amusing

I'm slapping Aquinastrasz and the tracking macro isn't giving me credit. I have the four other items, pelt, staff, sword and enchant, not sure how they all fit into this. Should I be wearing the 4 cloth items as well? I tried slapping with and without them on, no change.

I've finished all the clues, gone back in time in arathi, but Grimmy is just not there. I tried putting on the special items; nothing. relogging didnt work either.
Edit: It was a phasing issue. I had to do the quest Twilight Skies in Azshara (by the southern rocket terminus) to fix the twilight highland bug allowing me to see the past arathi zone correctly.

Started this today, after getting Proximo's Rudius in Halaa (Horde, always Alliance owned)...I hearthed back to the Great Seal and was ready to begin the chain. I looked in my inventory to make sure I had all the items needed and noticed that all of the Grey items had disappeared from my inventory. I was able to get back to Halaa to repurchase Sword...I have purchased the (2ea) Enchanting formula @ about 2K gold per and when I got to Garrison to head to Spires of Arak..they were gone again! The punctured pelt is gone again as well (purchased 5ea this time)...is this a VERY serious bug or what? Perhaps it is un-doable at pre-Shadowlands? I have to keep Proximo's equipped in order to keep it from disappearing from inventory. Put in a ticket but, fear I that I will get the generic reply that says that I need to check WoW head...so beating them to the proverbial punch.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but for Clue 7 - Interesting Rock step. If you can't see the item to click on because of the green fire, turn your graphic settings all the way down. It'll remove the effect so you are able to see it.

Did any Alliance become exalted with the Magram Clan Centaur and Gelkis Clan Centaur when approaching close to Karnum Marshweaver? As I approached him from the west (i.e. the pathway leading up to him), my rep with the Magram Clan Centaur was increased by 38706 and my rep with the Gelkis Clan Centaur was increased by 66600. Totally unexpected and I don't remember reading anything about this in the Waist of Time thread or in the release notes that I am aware of. Doing this on a Druid with Dreamwalk helped immensely - need to go to Blasted Lands? Dreamwalk. EPL? Dreamwalk. I kept my hearth in Org and I feel like I must've saved time comparatively.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't finish the emotes until I finally figured out that Noggra is a merchant & I have Scrap addon installed. He immediately took my 4 gray items. >.<

Tip: Turn off trash-selling mods or remember to buy those 4 items back any time you touch a merchant.

A little tip for the control freaks like me:

If you are using ATT, then activate Features > Reporting > Report Quests.
This will give you feedback in the chat console with the completed quest ID each time you successfully click a quest item or do an emote.

PS:

If you don't like ATT, you can use the lightweight QuestsChanged, which will log the completed quest ID (without live chat notification).

Rough Wooden Staff needs to be ilvl 6!

I bought all the items on my level 70 and did all the emotes. Everyone responded so I figured I succeeded. When I got back to Grimmy, his recipe was not available. I ran the script and got all falses back. Couldn't figure out what I did wrong. Couldn't find a solution while Googling. Then I decided to double check the gray items in my bag and compare them to the ones listed here https://warcraft-secrets.com/guides/waist-of-time. Warcraft Secrets listed an ilvl 6 version of the Rough Wooden Staff. I went back to the vendor and they only had ilvl 71. I logged onto my level 12 and went to the vendor. Item level was lower but still not as low as 6. I made a new character and leveled it. Visited the vendor every time I leveled up. Rough Wooden Staff becomes ilvl 6 when the character is level 10. I bought it on my level 10, mailed it to my level 70, and it stayed ilvl 6 for me. Ran around emoting the "enemies" with that staff in my inventory, then ran the script again. All trues!

If you, like me, have no clue what character that unlocked Baal so many years ago, and lets be honest, the guide does a bad job at pointing out that it HAS to be the same character that unlocked Baal, that you can do this secret with. Baal will only say the sentence : Souls fEast on enDless shrieKing, in darKNess they writhe and scream, yOu WiLl join thEm, toGether forEver morE! when you summon him on the character you unlocked him with.
So just try all your alts till you find the correct character.

You might have an issue if you started the secret questchain, and did not complete it though, tough luck there if thats the case.

I haven't seen any posts anywhere that estimate how long the entire secret chain takes or what it's like to grind this out nowadays, so here's my experience as of The War WIthin.

Uuna => Baa'l => Waist of Time took me about 9 hours, and I was taking my time here and there. If you hustle, it could definitely be done in 8 hours or possibly less. Skyriding is a game-changer for getting from secret to secret with the quickness.

I did it on my Night Elf Druid to take advantage of Dreamwalk for fast travel points across Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Northrend. Mages would also be great for this with their endless teleports. Alliance characters will have an advantage since many steps of each secret are in Kul Tiras and central Eastern Kingdoms, which they have easier access to.

Naturally, Dalaran Hearthstone is essential for access to Legion Dalaran as well as its portal to your faction capital. For your normal hearthstone, some recommend setting it to your faction hub in Pandaria (Alliance: Shrine of Seven Stars / Horde: Shrine of Two Moons). This gives you a teleport to the middle of Pandaria as well as portals to your faction capital. I didn't do this, but I kinda wish I did to save some time.

Also worth emphasizing, and as many others have pointed out, pretty much all the secrets must be completed in order. Stick to the order presented in each of the three guides.

Here are some other useful things that helped me speed things along and retain my sanity:

Ever-Shifting Mirror is incredibly helpful for the parts where you need to jump between WoD Draenor and TBC Outland.
Fractured Necrolyte Skull is great for an extra teleport to Outland once per hour, assuming you can find a critter to sacrifice (As a Druid, this was painful, but it was all in the name of 1337 transmog. Don't tell D.E.H.T.A).
You get a few helpful perks for doing this on a character in an established guild. Guild Perk: Hasty Hearth cuts your Hearthstone cooldown in half and is vital for more frequent trips to your faction's portal room, and Cloak of Coordination, available from Guild Vendors at Revered with your guild, was great for a few extra teleports when my other hearths were on cooldown.
Light-Step Hoofplates are essential for classes that don't already get a +20% ground mount speed bonus, as you can't fly on Argus.
In your graphics settings, changing Groud Clutter to the minimum value helps with finding those tiny little pebbles.
If Uuna's Doll doesn't drop on your first try, you can summon it again the next day without grinding the prereq items again. If you're impatient, like me, here's my comment explaining how I cheesed it with an alt.
A second monitor playing that TV show you've been meaning to binge.

Finally, here are some annoying prerequisite roadblocks I ran into throughout this journey, be warned:

The Uuna secret chain requires you to complete the Argus campaign up until you unlock the first Vindicaar teleport in Eredath. If you don't unlock the first Eredath teleport pad, her secret in that zone will not spawn.
You MUST bring some Goblin Glider Kits to Eredath, even if your class has a slow fall. I learned the hard way so you don't have to.
The Baa'l chain requires you to do the first few parts of the BFA campaign until you have access to both Kul Tiras and Zandalar. As long as you can get to both continents somehow, you can just fly to each location.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Did this today 12/13/24. It took less than 3 hours total, some breaks for RL stuff.

I did it on an Engineer with the SW/Org cloaks – you’ll use them a lot! Engineering wyrmholes are a help.

I had Baa'l/Uuna from back in BfA so that knocks off a ton of time. (? On if you have to do this on the character that acquired them or not. I did just to be safe) If you don't have Baa'l, follow ProfessorCosmos guide in the comments.

Had my tailor pre-make the tailoring things, bought all the rest (sent alts to the various spots), and ran thru Karazhan while out in Swamp of Sorrows. It's quick if you don't kill everything.

* You can use the portals to Arathi in Boralus/Zuldazar, just set the time to the past.

Fun "Secret" that I would never have solved! But do like the transmog!

i did it yesterday, and i got some updates though. First off when you get to the 4 grey items and interactions with the 4 NPC's it dosent consume any of the grey items, i was thinking i did it wrong until i found the macro to check steps. Then when you return to Grimmy you need to talk to him before the 3rd Note spawns. But thats it. The rest went down smoothly!

The vendor that sells Proximo's Rudius may not be spawned when you arrive in Halaa, A faction will need to be in control of Halaa for the vendor to spawn - preferably on your character's faction. I did this on a War Mode character with no faction in control of the area, thus no NPCs were spawned. It took less than five minutes to gain control of the flag.

Had the same issue, true false true true. Karnum Marshweaver was waved but would not validate the quest.
Looking carefully into my inventory revvealed I didn't have the Punctured Pelt any longer. Dunno why since when I started the whole thing, I had it, and I still had Proximo's Rudius, Rough Wooden Staff and Formula: Enchant Ring - Striking.
I have no automatic grey sale and I place the whole lot down my inventory so as to avoid selling it..
Had to buy it once more, waved and that part was completed.
From then on, completing the whole waist of time was straigtforward.
Might be the name of the item is not for the lenght of the whole secret leading to it, but the time wasted to check what's wrong when not able to complete a step :)
