The Story of the Night Fae Covenant Campaign

ArdenwealdArdenwealdArdenwealdNight Fae CovenantThe night fae tend to fallen nature spirits who slumber within the tranquil forest. Those with a deep bond to nature may join their cause, ensuring that the rejuvenated spirits can one day rejoin the eternal cycle.

Quick facts:

The Night Fae Covenant was first introduced in Shadowlands.
This Covenant's story mostly takes place in Ardenweald.
Chronologically, this storyline is set after the events of the original stories of the Shadowlands zones, but at the same time as the stories of the other Covenants.
The Night Fae Covenant Sanctum is the Heart of the Forest.
The forests of Ardenweald are filled with Groves which are dedicated to protecting Wildseeds that contain the spirits of special souls. The leaders of these Groves are known as Droman.
The Night Fae are lead by the Winter Queen.

From Chapter 3 on, Renown is required to unlock more chapters.

A total of 2x Renown can be earned each week from weeklies.

Quests from the main campaign will also occasionally offer Renown, usually about 1x a week.

Night Fae Covenant Summary

Chapter 1 - For Queen and Grove!
Having been asked to choose a Covenant, you join the Night Fae and learn about various aspects of your new role. You put on a special play to teach your new Covenant all about your world and the life you lead, are introduced to World Quests, and are rewarded with your first Renown. You venture into the Maw, where you rescue souls and bring them back to help your Covenant with the help of a broker named Ve'nari, and witness Baine Bloodhoof being dragged into Torghast, Tower of the Damned. You form a special bond with Niya in the Soulbind ritual, and learn how to unlock certain upgrades in your Covenant Sanctuary.

Chapter 2 - Torghast
You are summoned to Oribos by Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, who suggests you ask Ve'nari in the Maw if she can help you find Baine. Ve'nari is already expecting you and helps you access Torghast, where you rescue Baine from Warden Arkoban. You discover a strange object on the warden and soon learn it unlocks a special area in Torghast, where the Runecarver is being kept chained by the Jailer. You help the Runecarver recover some of his memories and unshackle one of his arms. In return, he promises to help you gain more power.

Chapter 3 - Daughter of the Night Warrior
You help Shandris Feathermoon search for her mother, Tyrande Whisperwind, in the Maw. Tyrande, the Night Warrior, refuses to leave, and is determined to get revenge for her fallen kin. You finally catch up with her in Torghast itself, where you rescue what Night Elf souls you can. Though you cannot convince Tyrande to return with you, you do bring these souls back to Ardenweald, where they may find peace at last.

Chapter 4 - Da Boss
A Mask of Bwonsamdi appears in Ardenweald, bringing an important message - Bwonsamdi has noticed some Loa, who should be resting in Ardenweald, have gone missing, and asks for your help. You investigate and discover that the culprit is Mueh'zala, the original Loa of death, Bwonsamdi's own former mentor. Mueh'zala is working to awaken the evil spirits Dambala and Hakkar the Soulflayer before their time, and recruit them to his service. With the help of the Wild Hunt you manage to drive his forces from Ardenweald itself, even defeating Dambala. Mueh'zala retreats to De Other Side, along with Hakkar the Soulflayer and the rest of his dark army.

Chapter 5 - Night Warrior's Curse
You meet Thiernax, once a Night Warrior, and his husband Qadarin. Shandris Feathermoon hopes Thiernax will help you with her mother, Tyrande Whisperwind, but he seems reluctant. Qadarin explains that while Thiernax was able to save their home world, he ultimately failed to weild the power of the Night Warrior, leading to their death. You help Qadarin against some invading Spriggans, but disaster strikes when he is cursed. Thiernax swears to help you if you first help him reverse the curse on his husband. You discover the right spell to use to break the curse, gather the reagents, and perform the ritual, ultimately saving Qadarin. In return, an overjoyed Thiernax promises to help you save Tyrande.

Chapter 6 - Drust to Drust
Ara'lon needs your help. Sent to investigate a grove that seems to have been taken over by hostile Night Fae wearing strange masks, he and his hunters were ambushed. All but one of his hunters were killed, and the one who survived, Gweyir, has been cursed. The Drust are responsible, and you visit Ulfar in Drustvar to ask him for help. He helps you prepare a fetish that can break the spell, and tells you to seek out the help of his old mentor, Kivarr, who died long ago and can be found in Ardenweald. You find Kivarr's grove is under attack from more Drust, but manage to rescue her. While on a mission to fetch the final reagents needed to break the spell on Gweyir, Ara'lon disappears. You perform the ritual, but it fails, and Gweyir perishes.

Chapter 7 - The Horned Hunter
Thiernax reveals a plan to help Tyrande Whisperwind. The power of the Night Warrior is too overpowering for one alone, but if she shares that power, then perhaps it won't consume her. For this plan to work, you will need other Night Warriors. The best person to help you find them is Huln Highmountain, but he needs your help to slay a worldeater threatening Ardenweald first. After some monster hunting, your world is safe, and Huln promises to help you.

Chapter 8 - Deal for a Loa
You help Bwonsamdi interrogate Mueh'zala, and discover a Wild God is trapped in the Maw. With the help of the Spirit of Vol'jin, you track down the Wild God, Ashamane, and rescue her soul, before the Spirit Vol'jin realizes there are Loa nearby as well. You rescue Hir'eek and Shadra, but are too late to save Rezan, who grants the last of his power to Spirit Vol'jin. You bring all back to the Winter Queen, who welcomes them to Ardenweald.

Chapter 9 - Drust and Ashes
In the final chapter, an attempt to drive the Drust out of Ardenweald goes badly when you defeat Gorak Zhar, only to discover it's actually Ara'lon, trapped and disguised by dark magic to appear to be Gorak Zhar. And while you were distracted, killing your friend, the Drust began an invasion on the Grove of Awakening. You rush back quickly to fight against the invaders. With all the Night Fae working together, and even the Winter Queen's help, you finally push back the invaders and defeat Gorak Zhar for real, saving Ardenweald once and for all.

Lore Spotlight: Alexstrasza and Death Knights

For Death Knight players, Alexstrasza's reception is a little chillier than usual - as she hasn't forgotten their actions in a Class Order Hall quest from Legion, during which Death Knights obtained their class mount - the Deathlord's Vilebrood Vanquisher.

The Story of Deathlord's Vilebrood Vanquisher
To obtain this mount, Death Knights were required to raise a mighty red dragon named Kyranastraz, whose bones were lost somewhere on a glacier to the north of Icecrown. At the Lich King Bolvar Fordragon's command, they headed to Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight, where they threatened and even strangulated members of the Bronze and Red Dragonflights while interrogating them about Kyranastraz's final resting place.

When the dragons still refused to help, Death Knights entered the Ruby Sanctum, where the Bolvar invited them to kill as many dragons as they wanted to - including whelps.

The quest Daughter of the Night Warrior was never offered to me from Ysera after completing the prerequisite. I'm wondering if anyone else had this issue. The quest line just ended for me... I opened a ticket...

Doing the other covenant campagnes at the end of the expansion, I notice that the whole Nightfae Campagne is bugged as hell. Half the dialogues are missing, Shandris is nowhere to be found in the heart of the forest. I have to read up every dialogue here on Wowhead. I write a bug report after every little quest, but I guess Blizzard won't care anymore. It's old content now with Dragonflight ahead.

Shandris is still missing from most of the campaign inside Heart of the Forest, which is a pity, because it makes some of the dialogues make no sense.

Guess I will have to redo the campaign on another character if they ever fix it.
