Now we’ve got the straight-up kung-fu warriors. Created by the Pandaren Emperor to protect against the Sha (the forces of “bad” emotion in Pandaria), they’re found in Shado-Pan Monastery in the Kun-Lai Summit area.

You’ll gain reputation with them in a reasonably conventional way – quests and probably dungeons. As you progress up the ranks you’ll get armor as reward. There’s no preview available yet, but Blizzard promise it’ll be “really cool”.

The only other element of note about the Shado-Pan is that they’re kinda Vulcan. They have to keep their emotions in check or the Sha will get in – and presumably hate will lead to the Dark Side.

The daily quests for the Shado-Pan are randomly selected from 3 sets.
Each set has 5 quests and sets you against one of 3 targets, the Mogu in the North, the Mantid in the West, or the Yaungol in the East.
Each time you take a set of quests you are given the additional option to defeat a Shado-Pan in the Challenger's Ring. Doing so will allow you to recruit the defeted npc to aid you on your quests. This continues untill you have recruited all npc's associated with that set of quests, or untill you have all 9 and complete Proven Strength
You choice of Shado-Pan makes little difference except for during the Mantid quests, when Taoshi and Tenwu have an annoying habit of runing off and pulling extra mobs or aoeing anything you've cc'd.

On a side note, it's great that you can finally do daily quests as a tank, most of the new quests have active guards or companions to help you kill things

Found out quite an interesting reference from the quotes of the NPCs of the Shado-Pan in and around the Great Wall of Pandaria which refers to the Night's Watch from George R. R. Martin's fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, which is also what the HBO TV series Game of Thrones is based on.

In essence the Night's Watch and the Shado-Pan are fairly similar. They both man a huge wall which is used to guard the rest of the realm from an ancient threat which lays beyond it. Of all the quotes the Shado-Pan NPCs say when you are interacting with them, two of the main ones refer to the Night's Watch.

"We are the sword in the shadows"
"We are the watchers on the wall"

These two quotes are direct reference to the vows the men of the Night's Watch must take.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all nights to come.

Another quote in which the NPCs say may also reference the Night's Watch, although I am a little doubtful of it.

"We must not falter"

This quote is fairly similar to something Qhorin Halfhand says to one of the main characters of the series Jon Snow.

You must not balk, whatever is asked of you.

I find that the word falter and balk have a similar meaning but the significant of the quote is because it is something the character of Jon repeats to himself quite often in the books but I won't go into that much because I would be going a trip down spoiler road.

But anyway, awesome reference by Blizzard.

I realize there are three quest hubs for the daily quests, but I haven't been able to find all three. Any tips on locations?

In order to begin quests with the Shado-Pan, you must get your rep with the Golden Lotus up to revered.

If you're having trouble finding where to start Golden Lotus rep (like me) you must first pick up the following quest
(alliance)
(horde)

Do a short questline and you'll open the gates to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, and once the gates are open, you should find a Golden Lotus quest chain at the Golden Pagoda.

Upon reaching revered with the Golden Lotus the August Celestials quartermaster directed me to "Challenge at the Temple of the Red Crane", a daily quest. Now I can do August Celestials and Shado-Pan dailies (at Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes).

This faction seems to be a reference to the Shaolin monks of China. The names are similar, both are monastic orders well known for producing excellent fighters, and both have a monastery in the mountains.

It is possible for a human to reach Honored with the Shado-pan before reaching Revered with Golden Lotus or using pipes.

I reached 276 into Honored standing with Shado-pan today, after doing every quest possible and finally killing the Sha of Anger world boss, turning in the quest item for 600 reputation points, as a human with rank 2 Mr. Pop.

Just started on Shado-Pan dailies today and the rep rewards per quest are only 125 for the first 4 and 250 for the final quest of the Wu Kao line fighting the mantids. As a human with the guild bonus i received 150 and 300 respectively, making this grind much longer than it appeared from the previous numbers.

This is how much reputation you get per day.

Update: it seems that the reputation has been increased and normalized across all different daily zones. Numbers below reflect the new changes.

Without human racial or guild perk: 1250
With either human racial or guildperk: 1375
With both reputation buffs: 1500

This is not counting in the The Challenger's Ring quests where you defeat one of the Shado-Pan NPCs since technically they aren't dailies. Doing one of these will net you another 350 rep before any bonus.

As another reference note;

The Shado-Pan hat and red scarf are obviously a reference to 1930s pulp hero character "The Shadow".

Meanwhile the costume itself, and a few of the Shado-pan npcs with a helm, mirror the character Ryu Hayabusa in the 2004 game "Ninja Gaiden".

Regarding the dailies; They can be somewhat difficult (relative to most dailies you're able to do before unlocking these) if you pull too many mobs, aren't good with stealth, etc. If you seem to be pulling too many mobs and dying, remember:

1) Before you leave the quest hub, you can pick a companion. This makes things a LOT easier.
2) Relatively soon after unlocking this faction's dailies you will receive a quest to duel another potential companion. Once completed, you unlock your second companion who is a hunter. This hunter is *not* the best companion to use! He constantly uses "Disengage" which often causes him to pull large packs of mobs (in addition to the ones you were already fighting). Your best bet is to use the originally available Rogue-like companion, who hits for about 15-25k each melee swing and attacks VERY fast. You'll easily kill mobs in 3-4 seconds using the Rogue instead of the Hunter.
3) If you are looking for a location to "bomb" on the daily where you use a gas bomb on specific locations and can't seem to find it, remember that the quest markers on your map are not always 100% accurate and do nothing to make up for height differences. Remember that there are groups of "houses" to bomb on top of elevated areas and then directly on the side of the cliff they are on top of.
4) When you've finished your dailies and receive the final kill quest, the mark for the elite's location is misleading. While that's where they are, they're underground! Look on your map for the cave icon on the east side of the island the dailies take place on. Once you enter that cave it will be very obvious where to go.
5) Do not forget to use your items! They give you access to "abilities" on use, comparable to a Rogue's Distract, Vanish, and a slightly ranged Sap. While the quests aren't exactly difficult, using these item-based abilities can definitely help you avoid some fights or potential deaths to speed things up.
6) If you're being spammed with the "Don't forget your bag of blah blah blah!" message when you're accepting all the daily quests but can't find where the bag is, it's right at the feet of the NPC you get the quests from. It *does* sparkle like any clickable item, but because the sparkle animation scales to the size of the object it can still be difficult to see, especially if there are many mounted players around.
7) Remember that you are not the only stealthed player around. It may seem like the island is vacant, but every other horde/alliance player is also stealthed unless they are mounted, in combat, or interacting with an item/npc.

You will complete your objectives much quicker simply by asking "Would anybody like to group up for Shado-Pan dailies?" in general chat. Many people enjoy grouping and know it makes things MUCH faster but don't think to ask; chances are that if you do you'll receive several whispers and will have your quests completed in about five minutes if you split up.

I m having a hard time finding where the Shado-pan daily quests are... and yes i finshed the quests there and in Kun Lai Summit, i even went to the horde "Dalaran" to find a daily started and still nothing.. and i m 15% till honored..

"I do not know Hits-Like-Wet-Noodle. Your companions Disappears-From-Fights and Aggros-Entire-Zone expressed similar concerns. I can only assume they are trying for the achievements."

It seems like the intent of these dailies was to make them slightly harder, then give you "help" in the form of NPCs.
- Hawkmaster Nurong (Hits-Like-Wet-Noodle, Hunter) is worthless. I fought a mob with 2.8M health with his "aid". At the end of the fight I had done 2.77M damage. Yeah, thanks for all the "help".

- Taoshi (Disappears-From-Fights, Rogue) wasn't much help either. He'd disappear from the fight for 20 seconds. Then he'd appear just long enough to aggro another pack of mobs before vanishing again.

- Protector Yi (Aggros-Entire-Zone, Warrior) makes precision pulls difficult. He'll usually charge your target immediately, stunning it (so much for pulling it away from other mobs) then do an AoE attack (if you're lucky your target managed to move a step away from other mobs so that he's not in range). If he's unsuccessful in pulling extra mobs with that, then he'll start charging anything else in range. He might have been viable in some environments, but in these daily areas where there's mobs every 2 feet he generally just managed to rain dozens of mobs down on your head.

I've seen people say the mages did decent AoE damage, but today I went without any of them and finished the dailies in 1/3 the time because I didn't have to kill 30 mobs per pull.

Ok the reputation for each set of quests per day. Edit: i think they increased the amount of rep for Shado-pan. I got the mantid quests today and i recieved 1500rep. I have the guild perk and the Grim Visage holiday rep bonus.

Undocumented Changes 25 October:

Black Guard and Wu Kao now awards 250 reputation for each daily (was 125) grating a total of 1250 (1375 with 10%, 1500 with 20%) each day, this balances all hubs and removes the RNG on their daily rep.

The Wu Kao dailies are very buggy, with your stealth buff working 20% of the time, your follower disappearing randomly and elite mantid evade bugging. Hopefully Blizzard will take a long look at everything Shado-Pan related soon (Shado-Master meta achievement included) and fix what they can.

Just an observation, but I believe that Blackguard dailies are tied to Order of Cloud Serpent. I was never offered these dailies before I hit exalted with the Order faction. Can anyone confirm/contradict this?

Oh, these guys. If you're like me, and raid with a healing spec, and have therefore spent all your effort gearing up that set, while your questing/soloing set of gear is still half-greens, then you're in for some difficult times. The quests are hard enough with bad gear, but can take a lot of precision, awareness, and luck that your "helper" won't go get you killed.

Until I can get some guildies to help me with these, or I get my dps spec pre-raid geared, I'm going to leave them half undone. If I have to wait until two patches from now before I can get to exalted, then so be it. They can keep their helmets and trinkets, I don't want them anyway. :/

When doing Blackguard dailies for the first time don't skip this quest. After you complete it you can use portal to travel between Shan'ze Dao and Shado-Pan daily quest hub.

For those looking to find out where to pick up the dalies it is NOT in the western section of the map as listed above. Its just south of the center of the map before the bridge to the islands.

If nobody has noticed, there is a quest at Shen'ze Dao at the small shado-pan camp there, which opens a portal between Shado-pan Garrison and Shen'ze Dao, this quest gives about the same rep as dailies.. took me the last day before exalted to find this quest.

Completing all the quests in townlong steppes will give you roughly 4485/6000 (Friendly heading into honored). Likely less than that, as I have completed the quests in Shao-Pan monastary, and am unsure if it gives Shado-Pan reputation. Definately a good start to the reputation.

Coupla things to note... hit revered w/Golden Lotus and headed to Townlong to get the dailies... except I am having trouble finding them. I'm flying all over the place and nada. My Quest add-on is not showing them, but it seems to tell me I have a lot of unfulfilled quests... except I see none of them when I get to the spot. In the typical buggy MoP fashion, my Objectives are showing a bunch of Dread Wastes ones (decided to take a side quest and finish those off)!

Came here and buried in one of the comments was word about the Shado-Pan Garrison (before the bridge to Niuzo). Started walking all over the camp looking for a bunch of blue exclamation points, nada. Finally, I found some douchbag who had his enormous mount totally obscuring Ban... but I saw he had a lone single blue !. Ah, all five dailies were right there... I was very used to seeing each daily hosted by a different NPC... not so for these.

Saw a talk bubble on Fei Li behind the tent, checked it out... yeah, my "helper" for the day! How cool is it to find another Fire Mage to fight by me... AND she mounts up on a kite to fly with me. She did kinda save my butt one time... I looked to be in the clear to kite 2 mobs, but as I was engaged with them, another 2 spawned. Pretty soon it's almost looking like I may take a death, but my little lovely pandamage Frost Novaed 2, so I could pop some health and finish them off. Good job, you go girl!

Just a tip for those that are doing both the Shado-Pan and August Celestials dailies.
If you get the quests from August Celestials that take you to Niuzao Temple,do them before turning in your last quest to Shado-Pan so you can have your companion help with those aswell.

If you are doing this set of dailies id recommend looking at some of the achievements, you can earn a very nice "Shado Master" Title which can be almost completed just through dailies.

The main achievement your going for is The Shado-Master admitted you could struggle with this partShado-Pan Monastery: Gold, but it wont be long until its easy im sure.

Heres a list of the achievements that can be completed just through doing the dailies, check the comments lots of good advice on doing these ease.

Flying on a taxi to the Shado-Pan Garrison today to do my dailies and I noticed that as soon as I landed at the garrison, I immediately got a loading screen and was ported to Rensai's Watchpost, the next FP just south of the garrison. Is this a phasing issue or something? And has anybody else had this happen? Just curious.

I had assumed that "Shado-Pan" was Chinese, but I checked the official Taiwan site, and it turns out that the Chinese name is Ying Pan. Ying means shadow, and Pan is short for Pandaren. So "Shado-Pan" is actually English, and short for "Shadow Pandaren."

I didn't see this simply put anywhere, so here goes:

After hitting revered with Golden Lotus, nothing directed me to the Shado-Pan dailies, like for The August Celestials.

Fly to Townlong Steppes
Go to Shado-Pan Garrison (49.1, 71.2)
Meet up with Ling of the Six Pools, Ban Bearheart or Master Snowdrift depending on the day, they will give a set of dailies specific to them.

With the Grand Commendation of the Shado-Pan, the human rep boost, and the guild rep boost, I was able to hit about 9500/12,000 Honored by doing all the Shado-Pan quests through Kun-Lai and Townlong Steppes, turning in the Claw of Anger, and doing the Shado-Pan Monastery quests.
There may have been a quest or 2 that I missed, but it is currently impossible to hit revered through the quests alone.

If you are exalted with The Tillers and the farm belongs to you (Farmer Yoon has joined the council), you can also do Work Order: Shado-Pan I & Work Order: Shado-Pan II for additional daily rep. These are offered by a post that takes Farmer Yoon's place on the farm.

At revered, after using Grand Commendation of the Shado-Pan, and with the guild perk Mr. Popularity, I'm getting 1320 rep per day doing these two quests. You only get rep, however, for the second.

To get the Shado-Pan rep quests in Kun-lai unlocked, you only need to do the quest "Call Out Their Leader" at Binan Village. Then, even though there is no breadcrumb, the Shado-Pan quest line at Shado-Pan Fallback is available.

I have done every single chest in all zones of pandaria, and all I got was 3567/6000 rep for Shado-pan! I been over all again looking, but there are no more quests anywhere :(

I have a curios question is there anyway we can get their gear for transmog like we can do with SW gaurds? I know we can get the Helmet from faction at Revered or honored cant remember but what about the rest of their gear.

I recently returned to WoW after taking a two year break and was going back to get exalted with the factions I had missed. Among others I started grinding away at acquiring Shado-Pan rep. However, amidst my grinding suddenly one day my blue exclamation point was not there to do my dailies, but there were still the yellow ones. This happened for a few days in a row and I was starting to get frustrated, to the point of contemplating opening a ticket. However, the day after dinging lvl 100 I returned to the area and all of the yellow exclamation marks were hidden because they were now considered low level, all except for one.

On a whim I clicked on this solitary mark to see what made this quest special. Imagine my face palm moment when in addition to seeing a 'The Challenge Ring' quest I also saw my four blue daily quests as well.

So in order to save others the same fate be aware - after reaching a certain point your blue exclamation point will disappear because they are hidden in with the daily Challenge Ring quest.

I stumbled across something that amused me, probably a coincidence.

The shado-pan seem to enjoy cabbage soup, thier leader, Taran Zhu, was voiced by the same person who voiced the cabbage merchant in avatar and his descendant in Korra.
