there is a bug with the fish loot when the "looting this item will bind it to you" comes up dont shift click the bobber or it will cancel the looting box. in meaning you cant catch any of the 3 rare fish because of it or it cancels and will go away make sure you dont hold shift for the quick loot system!

This item is part of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Competition. Which takes place every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 Server time.

These are the items that can be won if you are the first person to hand in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Bootybay.
Arcanite Fishing Pole and Hook of the Master Angler.

Once someone has won the fishing competition, you can still hand in your remaining Speckled Tastyfish to Jang in Bootybay. (repeatable quest)

As of 3.3.3 this item is bugged, showing +2 to fishing skill instead of +5.

With the release of 3.3.3 you may see an erroneous message when applying High Test Eternium Fishing Line. If an enchantment already exists on the fishing pole you will be asked if you'd like to replace your current fishing pole enchantment with "+2 Fishing". This message is incorrect and applying the High Test Eternium Fishing Line enchantment will still give the proper +5 Fishing.

This is slated to be corrected in an upcoming patch.

Seeing as how this no longer stacks with Enchant Gloves - Angler (fishing +5), I would suggest anyone wanting to use both to replace the +5 from High Test Eternium Fishing Line with +3 from Spun Truesilver Fishing Line as this does stack with Angler. By using the gloves and downgrading your pole enchant you can increase your fishing skill. Lol an upgrade from a downgrade, Leave it to Blizz. To quote someone else, this item "is now 99% useless"

Any hints about how to get it now, when the fishing contest in Stranglethorn has been removed?
Of course, it can be replaced by other line(s) which give +4, and of course additional +1 does not give much benefit in fishing, but seeing your skill ending with digit 9 (like 999, or 1089, or whatever) makes me feel uncomfortable.
Rumours are we can get it from Dalaran fishing quest, but probability of 0.5% does not provide big courage to go this way.

TWW - Appears to now only apply to Northrend Fishing. I tested with the drop from 釣魚藏寶袋 and replacing it with the quest reward from 荊棘谷釣魚大賽. I applied it to the 大師製卡魯耶克釣魚竿, but I doubt the fishing pole matters as other effects are also expansion-specific (like +2 fishing glove enchant only working for classic skill).

The drop rate for 古老釣線 being locked behind a double wall of RNG, that being there when 『末裔』斯里頌 is up and hoping 古老釣線 will actually drop this time. And having done the WotLK Dalaran fishing dailies some hundreds of times on my all too many alts, I found I had an abundance of 高強度恆金魚線 during Legion and later. When almost all achievements were made account-wide in Dragonflight, I suddenly had an abundance of characters with 粼光釣竿 and hardly any had ever seen 『末裔』斯里頌, much less gotten a 古老釣線. So, I naturally put the abundant 高強度恆金魚線 on many of those 粼光釣竿.

After the launch of Shadowlands, when 高強度恆金魚線 is applied to 粼光釣竿, the mouse-over text for 粼光釣竿 displays +5 to fishing, BUT the professions pane shows nothing added.

Whereas, when 茹克的幸運釣魚線 is applied to 粼光釣竿, the mouse-over text for 粼光釣竿 displays +4 to fishing, BUT the professions pane displays +6.

The changes wrought to fishing after the break-up into expansions has been fraught with so many bugs that it is hard to say if this is a bug or by design. For instance, during Shadowlands I discovered that 尊爵不凡之蟲 stopped working on 粼光釣竿 entirely and 納特的喝酒帽 could not apply a lure to 粼光釣竿. Those two things were remedied late in the life-cycle of Dragonflight or early on in The War Within, but many others have never been addressed.

Before you waste your time - this doesn't appear to affect Midnight fishing, despite there being no mention in tooltips that it is classic fishing only.
