I have never seen it mined from small thorium vein. The other WoW data collection sites show over 200,000 hits for small thorium vein and not one arcane crystal mined.

Yes, it can be mined from small thorium veins. I did it today in Silithus. I don't know what the odds are for it to occur, but it has to be astronomical.

Start holding on to your arcane crystals! In TBC they can be turned into an important (and expensive) enchanting material. They are also used for some great blacksmithing recipes in expansion.

An interesting note: Due to the increased drop rate of arcane crystals in all thorium veins. For a very short time(275-280) Arcanite Keys can be a good substitute for Imperial Plate bracers for getting some skill up.

Transmute Arcanite is:
Thorium Bar x1
Arcane Crystal x1

Arcanite Key x2 is:
Arcanite Bar x1
Dense Grinding Stone x1 (4 Dense Stone)

This compared to...

Imperial Plate bracers:
Thorium Bar x12

It should be noted Arcanite keys are of yellow difficulty when you train them at 275, but for those 5 blacksmithing levels its well worth the risk over the orange skill Imperial Plate bracers to save yourself some money/time.

I have probably mined about 25 thorium deposits (total of rich+small) and I have not seen this drop. The sad thing is that now in BC and WotLK the 300-375 recipes still need this for arcanite (espicially engineering) and these crystals are really rare.
EDIT: I have now mined about 45 total deposits and I have seen this drop twice.

If you are farming these for some reason, I would highly advise going to Un'goro Crater. I went here to farm Thorium Ore and in an hour and a half i had about 217 Thorium Ore as well as 6 arcane crystals. Hope you have as much luck as I did =)

So I got my bindings for Thunderfury and realised I need tons & tons of these crystals.

The absolutely best place to farm these in my opinion is simply silithus. Yesterday I went farming for about 30-40 minutes and earned about 1k gold (from the thorium and dense stones and random gems) + @#$%loads of arcane crystals.

Seriously, it was ridiculous amount of thorium veins, especially in The Crystal Vale, northwest silithus. Just follow the mountain sides of silithus like a circle, don't bother go into the hives, it will just slow down the farming process. And make sure to fly around in Crystal vale when you get there because there is atleast 4+ nodes there.

There is like zero players in Silithus nowadays so this should work on every server, mine is Highly populated but I still couldn't see someone else there :P

Arcane Crystals are RANDOM drops from mining thorium. There is no "best" place to farm them.

Prior to the Sundering I would have said Un'Goro Crater was the best place for mining these. However, as it is now possible to fly in old Azeroth Silithus is, in my opinion, the better place to farm these.

There seem to be more Rich Thorium Veins than in Un'Goro Crater and Silithus is large enough that you always have a full selection of nodes to mine.

In four runs around the edge of the zone I was able to mine 20 Arcane Crystals (5, 5, 4, 6). Each run took about 15 mins with a Death Knight on a 280% speed mount.

A single hour of farming through Winterspring (with what seemed to be no competition) gave me:

I have farmed in Un'Goro, Silithis, and Winterspring and so far Winterspring seems to have the best drop rate considering convenience as well as competition. On my server, Un'Goro is a popular zone for Thorium farmers, and the issue with Silithis is that a lot of the node are deep in the hives. I also noticed that in Winterspring the Crystals seemed to drop equally if not slightly more off of Small Thorium veins as opposed to Rich (which are prevalent in the zone as well).

I'd definitely recommend Winterspring if you need a high volume of Arcane Crystals (for Thunderfury, for example).

Did they change the drop rate on these? I remember a few months ago, I'd go around the swamp of sorrows 3 or 4 times and end up with a full stack. Now, I go around 3 or 4 times and end up with 1 or 2.

I farmed these in Silithus on my Death-Knight with 280% flying speed + 20% bonus from frost-spec, i think it has taken me about 4 or 5 hours overall, this is what i've got:

I found some sitting on the AH rather cheaply.
Just keep an eye out. Got about 30 for 200g, which saved me about 2.5 hours of farming.

Also, UnGoro Crater dropped like, 3 Crystals in an hour for me. Not the best place to go.

After doing the xmute on my xmute spec alch I ended with 15 Arcanite Bars(Only 1 x2 proc)

Gems 6g x 225 = 1350g (takes a few days but they sell within a few days)
Vendored Dense Stones = 20g
Total gold made = 2120g in one hour

Note: Prices may vary per server and they largely do. Also 2120g in one hour isnt accounting for time spent prospecting/posting to AH/ transmuting etc or the amount of gold taken for AH cut.
Also note that your luck may vary in acquiring arcane crystals as its mostly RNG, but this should give you the idea for the potential of doing this.

Silithus is much better than Un' Goro in my opinion, there's maybe twice as many nodes, and Arcane Crystals have dropped like crazy there, got 3/4 nodes once. If you're looking to farm, it's not quick, but Silithus eases the burden.

I need 100 of these, total, for legendary weapon quest.

Been mining in Winterspring for roughly 2 hours. Almost 1400 thorium ores, and only 11 crystals so far. Will try Silithus now, as some of you suggested, to see it it's better there.

Anachronos is a fairly low pop server, and these are rarely at the AH (ally side). Tried using /trade to get some - soon someone said "crystals now on ah", the price was ridiculous: 85g each... Meh, the greed knows no limits, appearently.

Edit:

Ok, Silithus is definitively better. It took "only" 4.5 hours to get the remaining 89 crystals. What makes it better, is that by following the outer edge, you'll find a constant supply of nodes, none very far from the last. A round takes maybe 10 mins, and the nodes ahead of you will always respawn between each round.

Compared to Winterspring, you avoid obstacles likes trees, since the nodes are in open terrain. I do not recommend entering hives to farm, it will increase the time spent between each node.

IF YOU ARE FARMING FOR THUNDERFURY Make sure you get 80 of these then find a transmute master. Generally out of 20 you will end up with 4-6 more of these items using the transmute master. Sometimes significantly more sometimes not. But 80 should be just fine to reach your 100 amount.

Farming- All previously mentioned farming spots will work. Silithus is arguably the best but if you have another agenda for clearing zones(loremaster)(grinding rep for The Exalted/Diplomat/Ambassador titles) The other zones will work just fine.

For Cata(and you can expect MoP) farming of arcante bars, Silithus farming without going into the bug holes will be your best bet. Take the opportunity to use the thoruim ore for prospecting items and sell them for profit on the AH. Mix this up with selling the ore/bars as well to see where your realm finds the best profit margin for those items...I expect it will be a mix of the two.

If you get incredibly bored with this hop over to Ungoro for a couple circuits and then head back to silithus farming.

Items to help with this process

Faster flying +speed boosts/trinkets
A good computer! If you fly extremely fast but have slow loading sometimes you will pass the item before it has the opportunity to spawn on your screen.
Big bags/huge mining bags.
Argent gruntling/Moll-E (for getting rid of items quickly)
Guild pet vendors (for selling items you dont care to keep/mail but dont just want to destroy) - I dont know if Blizz fixed this but if you keep your Pet up and it disappears just go into AQ real quick and it should reappear regardless of cooldown time.
Addons...gathering addons are extremely useful in letting you know how much progress you have made. Many will also keep track of what others in your guild have done as well, and create a more accurate circuit for you to fly/ride.
Last but not least...a druid. Instantly mounting provides an incredible advantage to time and may not seem like a big deal for 5 minutes of farming but for hours of farming you can complete 10 times more.

So after months of farming I finally got my second binding and started to farm these up over the course of a day or so. Doing circles of Silithus along the mountain line is by far the fastest way to get these.

After about 3-4 hours of farming I ended up with the following:
Thorium Ore - 1571
Dense Stone - 1755
Truesilver Ore - 84
Arcane Crystal - 71 (A guildie had some on an alt that I nabbed :P)

These are quite the pita to get now , 1 lap of Silithus staying only on the outside edge and going in no bug holes , 1st lap 5 arcane crystals , 2nd lap 4 arcane crystals , don't pass the small thorium veins by cause have found as many crystals in there as the rich deposited ones , plus untold ores and gems and such, well over 1500 thorium ore and counting.

tried Un'goro and had worst luck there so went back to Silithus , also have seen many rares since no one seems to come here anymore , really cool looking dude called Setis standing at the entrance to AQ

gonna be quite the grind to get to 100 crystals ! , good luck !

Best place to farm is Swamp of Sorrows. Follow the edge around with ore tracking on. When you reach the cave go in and collect what is in there. Usually there are 4-6 nodes up. Then fly directly across to the west of Bogpaddle and start following the edge to the west. Go around the edge of misty valley and continue. Alliance should have no problem, Horde, you will be flying over The Harborage, which is a Draenei town. Note: You don't go near bogpaddle, so if you are hated with Steamwheedle Cartel like I am, you shouldn't have a problem. You will also pick up truesilver on the way, which is a plus. Good luck!

Silithus remains my favorite place to farm this material. Rich Thorium Veins are plentiful.

Given the sheer number required in the creation of either Thunderfury or Sulfuras, you'll likely need a wee bit more than a single trip. This is partly why i prefer farming in Silithus as opposed to other zones. With a hearth set to Dalaran, (or one of the Shrines, which offer a free port to Dalaran) the Caverns of Time are a free portal away. By taking the Caverns of Time portal, the flight to Silithus takes players over the spawn points of both the Ravasaur Matriarch's Nest as well as some Kalimdor rares like Gruff, who have a chance to drop the Kalimdor-only Jade armor.

None of this extra information will get you any extra crystals, but hopefully it can break up the monotony of your gathering sessions. Happy trails!

If you're looking for a good place to farm these, Silithus is great. Just make a circle around the outer edge of the zone (near the mountains) and you'll find tons of Thorium deposits. The drop rate isn't very high, but I managed to farm about 3k ore while farming 150 crystals for Sulfuras and Thunderfury. I also managed to farm nearly 300 truesilver ore in the process.

Tired of competing with allies and enemies in Silithus, Un'goro, and Winterspring? Blasted Lands too much of a battleground? Go to Swamp of Sorrows. My experience is that of having the entire zone to myself. Yes, there are far fewer nodes than Silithus and etc., but when you're in a race with 3 or more how many nodes are you even able to tap?

My advise to anyone who needs arcanite bars since 5.0.4 hit is to just buy them from the AH. The drop rate is very low, it cannot be prospected and you can do dailies for the gold needed in half the time it'll take you to farm up 50 of them (assuming your doing this for the sulfurion hammer). Also, get a transmutation master to convert them, you might get extra so don't buy all you need in one go. Any overflow you get can be the tip, they sell for about 100g each on my server (the crystals about 50g)

A word of advice to those who need these for Thunderfury:

It's often overlooked that after obtaining the second binding, you still need to get the quest and THEN kill Ragnaros. Frequently, people just complete their run, meaning Rag is dead when you get the quest to kill him. If that's the case with you, it may be prudent to hold off on buying these (or at least, the higher priced ones) and instead farm them until the raid resets and you can kill Ragnaros, then buy whatever you don't have. Cheaper overall that way, and you don't lose any extra time.

For alliance, port to Uldum, fly over the mountains to Ungoro and do the ring. If there is too much competition, fly over the mountains to Silithus and again, do the perimeter ring. If there is competition there, my preferred zone is WINTERSPRING, because there is twice as many nodes as the other zones and almost zero competition. Do the perimeter in WS, but also zig-zag into the interior because there are just as many nodes in the middle of the zone as on the exterior. You'll get the idea. I assume you are mining Arcane Crystal for Thunderfury. If so, then by all means check the AH in Everlook, where I bought 6 Arcane Crystal for 5g. With a drop-rate of around 10%, you can get 10 crystals in about an hour of mining, so definitely spam trade for both arcanite bar and arcane crystal, and wth, if someone will sell ya enchanted elementium bar for $1k per, GO FOR EET.

After farming 582 Thorium ore in Winterspring I got 28 Arcane Crystals. This is about 1 per 20 stack of ore. Nodes are close and heavily concentrated in Winterspring... didn't take long at all.

I found I had better luck getting Arcane Crystals in Winterspring rather than Silithus for some reason. I have no suitable explanation, just that I only had Arcane crystals drop while mining in Winterspring, whereas in Silithus I would get the whole range of gems:
Huge Emerald, Blue Sapphire, Azerothian Diamond, Large Opal, Star Ruby, Black Vitriol and of course Arcane Crystals.

Weird, to be honest.

My experience, I have been farming for almost 2hr and 20 mins and got only 9 ! guess this is random rare and if someone else is farming the area too then your waiting to get 1 is 30 mins and above. However I have notice that only after I got like 500 ores in my bag they began to show up. Don't know if others has experienced the same.

I've had the most luck in Un'Goro Crater. After 35 miinutes of farming, 159 Thorium Ore, 5 Mithril Ore, 3 Truesilver Ore, 2 Black Vitrol, 4 Azerothian Diamonds, 1 Blue Sapphire, 1 Huge Emerald, and 6 Arcane Crystals. I didn't keep exact numbers in Winterspring, but I spent about 1.5 hours farming there and did not have a single Arcane Crystal drop. In both locations, I only came across one other person farming, but that's not to say there weren't more. It seems that luck has a big part in this dropping, so don't get frustrated if ya haven't had one drop in a while. It could be in the next node you mine. Good luck and happy farming!

I did some digging in 冬泉谷 for 30 minutes after seeing Acann's report a few months before further down this thread. In that time, I scores 5 秘法水晶s....Not quite the luck acquired by Acann, but still felt worth the trip since it took no time to get there using 空間撕裂器 - 永望鎮. Shame these aren't able to be prospected....Blizzard sure seems to have a knack for taking the most sought after items in the game and making sure they remain the most sought after items in the game....lol

Just confirmed these do drop along with thorium nuggets (from small thorium vein, when your mining skill is insufficient)

The drop rate seems to be well adjusted. Overall, you would have approximately the same ore-to-crystal ratio. Since mining nuggets is so much slower, you would only get around 3 arcane crystals per hour of labor. Nonetheless it's a good way to level up mining if you need the arcane crystals, and arguably the best if your mining toon isn't 90 yet (so you can't fly in Pandaria to mine ghost iron nuggets)

Rich thorium veins still require 215 mining.

Just spent one hour farming Arcane crystal that drops from Thorium veins in Winterspring. 1 hour of mining in Winterspring resulted in; 311 thorium ore, 9 arcane crystal, 1 huge emerald, 2 black vitriol, 3 large opal, 2 blue sapphire, 2 star ruby, 398 dense stone, and 18 truesilver ore from truesilver vein along my route.

let me just say this for those of you might find it helping with there progress. it wont matter where you go for thorium veins, there will always be someone there farming too. also it depends if your lucky or not when it comes to arcane crystal, you might get 15+ in your 1 hour farm or you might get 1-10 in that time depends whether your lucky or not.

P.S.
i recommend Winterspring if your farming arcane crystal from thorium veins. i recommend this place becuase it has the most veins than any other place, so the chances of you mining a vein is higher than somewhere else. but you might get lucky and get no one else farming in another place.

I was farming in Silithus (14. feb 2015) for 50 minutes. I was able to get 15 秘法水晶, a few green gems, 313 瑟銀礦石 and 410 緻密的石頭.

I have tried out some other location to mine 秘法水晶, yet Silithus is definitely the best location to farm 秘法水晶. Due to Cross Realm, I was disturbed by two other players that also were farming the ores.

Please take all information on this page with a grain of salt. Especially drop rates. They seem to have changed over time.

First what do I need 秘法水晶 for? Mainly for 轉化：奧金 creating 奧金錠. The two most famous items will be the BWL, Molten Core legendaries 薩弗拉斯，炎魔拉格納羅斯之手 and 雷霆之怒，逐風者的祝福之刃. Less obvious are rare crafting patterns from Molten core. For example 熔核狙擊步槍, 力回饋盾牌 or 奧金收割斧.

How many do I need? One 秘法水晶 per 奧金錠. Transmute Specialisation works, so you might get extra procs x2 up to 5x.

薩弗拉斯，炎魔拉格納羅斯之手 needs 薩弗隆戰錘, that needs 50 奧金錠, 8-9 薩弗隆鐵錠 (the extra as tip for the friendly blacksmith crafting) and 10x 山脈之血 listing only the rare ingredients. So you need 50x 秘法水晶. While farming those you will get more than enough 瑟銀礦石.

雷霆之怒，逐風者的祝福之刃 needs 10x 附魔源質錠, which need 10x奧金錠 each to a total of 100x奧金錠, 100x 秘法水晶.

Where to get 秘法水晶? Obviously from the AH. Second from Thorium nodes. They cannot be prospected. Lastly in BWL from 黃色寶石袋, but that does not supply nearly enough gems.

For mining there are 3x possible areas. Un-Gore cratar, Winterspring and Silithus. My experience so far is that I get 3-5 crystals for a full round, in either area. You can also refer to Mining for Ores, Gems and Stones. MoP UPDATED. Even though it lists only Silithus. You can use realm transfer for more nodes. During my times I was hardly competing with other miners.

If you have time and found this information helpful please take notes during your next farming sessions. Take note how long you farmed, server hoped and what your returns were. My impression is that they will be far lower than in previous expansions. Please leave a comment with the numbers.

From 2 circles around each Wintergrasp and Silithus i have acquired a small data for you guys to interpret.

Wintergrasp:
10 Truesilver ore, 11 Arcanite crystal, 279 Thorium ore, 1 Azerothian diamond and 4 Star ruby.
Silithus:
13 Truesilver ore, 9 Arcanite crystal, 204 Thorium ore, 1 Azerothian diamond, 3 Star ruby, 3 Large opal and 5 Huge esmerald.

I would suggest using Silithus as your farming zone for arcanite crystal for the simple reasons that no one goes there, the map is more Manageable and mines are easier to spot.

Leaving this post up so I can eat humble pie for a while.

OK, folks. Here's the skinny:

Mining the crystals is going to take time. There is no shortcut. But now that I have mined up the last of any such crystals I hope to see again in my WoW lifetime, I shall tell you my secret. I've done somewhere in-between 60-80 hours farming this route over the years, and on my recent jag - 20-21 hours between last Wed-through-Fri - I mined up 210 crystals.

On my particular route they come up at an average rate (and I do mean average rate) of 10 per hour. Some hours, 13. Other hours, 6 or 7. Depends on who's questing. As an added Special Happy Fun Time Bonus, this route takes you directly past the spawn points of 6 separate rares.

GET THEE TO THE SWAMP OF SORROWS. Follow my instructions completely.

Behold Bogpaddle! Here is your natural stopping place at the end of each run. Here you will give yourself 15 or 20 seconds to sell trash to a vendor, but mostly to give nodes a chance to spawn again. From experience, I can tell you that there is such a thing as going too fast, and if you rush through, you increase the amount of times you have to backpedal on the route as things spawn after you've passed. A few seconds of efficiency gets you more nodes each run, which cuts down on your farming time.

Look on your map, specifically at the lower, right-hand corner, where there are some buildings and the mountain range meets the sea. Do not fly straight there as an arrow would.

Instead, flying low to the ground, take the coastal route. You have my permission to bypass the coast of the bay wherein lies the temple. You take this route for two reason, both rares. On the first stretch of coast is some large, spastic emu-looking thing. On the second stretch of coast is a rare murloc. You'll see him the most.

Now you are at the beginning of your route. Follow the mountain range closely.

ALWAYS GO INSIDE THE CAVE. Always. The only times there were not been at least 5 or 6 nodes were on those rare occasions someone with mining got there a few seconds before I did.You cannot trust your mini map on the fly by. It is a quirk of the program that, at least in this cave, the game will not paint nodes to the game world or your mini map until you're pretty much within spitting distance.

Assuming you have no competition, note: There is sometimes a node in the entrance. From the entrance there are three "fingers," one to your left, one more or less in the middle, and one on the right. Go down the left finger first. You may have to run more than halfway down it before the node gets painted in. Sometimes the middle finger has a node. The right finger always has at least one, usually two. Go down the right finger. The stretch of path that leads up to the boss platform will usually have two, sometimes 3 or 4 nodes. The boss platform sometimes has 1. The hallway to the left of the boss usually has one, sometimes two. Again, you sometimes have to go down that hallway before the game will paint in the node that's there.

Now leave the cave and resume the mountain route.

Follow the entire mountain line. There are two places where you'll be crossing a road. Pause at each road for a couple of seconds. Nodes sometimes take a moment to appear in these spots. I have no idea why this is.

Once you've reached the roads, that's when you have the chance of seeing more rares, if you feel like taking your eyes off the mini map for a sec. I usually look around while I'm mining something up. There's a dinosaur, a serpent, the dragonkin in the first cave, and some wasp in one of the swamp-lakes I've only seen once, ever, since 2012. DO follow the countours that both lead to caves. Otherwise you'll miss multiple nodes, which also sometimes spawn in the caves.

And now you're at Bogpaddle. Rinse, repeat.

Remember that every Thorium node has a chance to give you a crystal. Also remember that you have to mine every node, especially the Truesilver nodes. Think of every node as a cork in the bottle that's preventing the node you need from spawning. The way the game spawns nodes, if you cherry pick only the big veins, all you end up doing is increasing the time you spend mining by about 90 gazillion percent.

There you go.

EDIT: Just when I though I was done, it pulled me back in. Had to go back to get mats for an alt. For anyone wanting better numbers: each circuit takes about 8 minutes and you'll come across nodes that count up to the low-20's. Number of crystals per circuit:

Mevrouwke, I don't know what your concern is here. Yes, on the week I wrote this I did one long-ass jag. Prior to that I did lots and lots of smaller ones when leveling professions. I don't play the AH so I have no need to farm like a bot on a regular basis. Not sure why you needed the scare quotes. Weird.

As of 6.2.3, and now that crossrealm has made every zone a hive of activity, there is IMHO only one zone for farming 瑟銀礦石 and thus 秘法水晶: 悲傷沼澤. Swamp of Sorrows is so far off the beaten path and so inconveniently located that it (usually) has a low population even with crossrealm, YMMV.

While 冬泉谷, 安戈洛環形山 and 希利蘇斯 remain the best known zones with a high number of thorium ore nodes, they are made the less desirable because everyone and his brother goes to farm Thorium Ore there. Gone are the halcyon days of easy farming on low population realms. Crossrealm has delivered an almighty kick to the soft parts of that enterprise.

Adding my own experience.

After finally getting both bindings, I decided to go ahead and get enough crystals for both Thunderfury and the Sulfuron Hammer at the same time. I already had two Arcanite Bars left over from... something, so not wanting to put my trust and hopes into transmute procs, I went for 148 crystals.

Based on the majority of comments here, I chose Sillithus as my farming zone. I did two farming sessions over two days. As far as I could tell, there wasn't anyone else farming the nodes while I was.

I didn't keep track of how many times I circled the zone, but I do know I was averaging about 20 crystals per hour.

After the 148 crystals, the final tallies came to:

5161 Dense Stone
127 Truesilver Ore
7 Aquamarine
28 Large Opals
34 Huge Emeralds
46 Star Rubies
41 Black Vitriols

Have not done Winterspring, but knowing that zone, much harder to route.
In Silithus over past ~ 1 hour have:

347 Thorium Ore
481 Dense Stone
20 arcane crystals (double drop on one ore node)
14 Truesilver Ore (Only skipped some underground ore veins on route)
7 Blue Sapphires
7 Azerothian Diamonds
6 Black Vitriol
3 Huge Emeralds
2 Star Rubies
1 Large Opal
1 Citrine.

So basically 1 gem or crystal for every 10 ore.

There have been a number of other miners present, both alliance and horde, traveling around the zone in both directions. Even if you witness another toon mining a node, GO MINE IT TOO! Most of the time, you'll get ore+ I guess since many realms have merged and we now have "cross realm" in zones with the pre-release patch for Legion, a node can be mined by multiple toons (how many I don't know) in a ~5 second (exact timing I don't know) window. If you miss it, I have had nodes dis-apperate while attempting to mine them, or finish mining only to have it state there's nothing there. I have stood there while another mined a node, then started right as they mounted and got ore+, no matter if the toon was same/different realm, or same/different faction.

If you're going to mine specifically for the arcane crystals, or any other gems for that matter, you're best to use a Draenei miner as they are "gem toons". I spent the past two days mining for them with my Night Elf miner and it took almost 1000 thorium to get ~30 crystals, so you'll go twice as fast, get twice as many using the Draenei vice some other race.

Now I just have to get the right hand piece to finish crafting my legendary Thunderfury sword.

I show you the 3 best mining locations to obtain the Arcane Crystals.

You can get Arcane Crystals by mining the Thorium Ore. There are 3 spots where you can farm for those crystals. It's also recommended to have a mining skill that is at 200+ before you start doing that farm.

The first spot is in Winterspring. What you wanna do is fly around clockwise and when you see a Thorium Ore, mine it to obtain the Arcane Crystals.

The second spot is in Un'Goro Crater. The reason I like Un'Goro is because of the layout of zone. It's actually one big loop around the map which makes it very nice to farm there. But please note that you might face some competition.

The third spot is in Silithus. Fly clockwise for one hour if you want a decent amount of Arcane Crystals.

Farming for these and don't want all that 緻密的石頭? They're worth 5g per stack of 200 to vendor if you can stand to wait until you get to a vendor (or use a vendor mount). So why not make some gold off it with one click? Use this macro:

You can replace the "Dense Stone" with any item you want to vendor. Just put the exact name inside the quotation marks. You must have a vendor window open and be able to sell items to that vendor for this to work.

When I started this seemed like "just another long grind" (50 of them for crafting 薩弗隆戰錘), but it wasn't as bad as it looks and the rares/treasure chests made it a bit more interesting, ~5hrs of doing laps around Winterspring, including the cavern Mazthoril.

I've been farming these quite regularly since the introduction of transmog in Cataclysm and can't remember that ever happening. This was the first time I farmed them in legion so I figured the drop rate had increased but looking at the comments here it doesn't seam like it.

But there you have it, you can get two.

Just did a session (1 hour) in old Silithus today and it still seems great. I highly recommend to anyone that you use a Darkmoon Firewater as it cuts your gather speed in half, and being a druid doesn't hurt for instant flight form. In one hour I got:

I haven't done Winterspring in awhile so I don't have any data to compare.

Two more sessions on 08/11 and 08/12 yielded 34 and 16 arcane crystals, respectively. During the 34 crystal session, similar to my original post, I had maybe 1 person as competition. The 16 crystal session I had 3+ people as competition with a 50/50 split of people running in opposite directions on the route.

Was farming thorium in Un'goro Crater to sell on the AH and noticed that after a couple hours of farming I only got about 5 arcane crystals. Those still sell well on the AH so decided to farm for some of those. I switched to Silithus to see if the drop rate was any better. I have to say that Silithus is MUCH BETTER for arcane crystal farming. If you are after ore only Un'goro is a good place but you don't get many crystals. In Silithus I am getting 1 every 4 or 5 nodes (sometimes more often but not usually). In about 40 minutes I've gotten 20 arcane crystals vs 5 in 2 hours in Un'goro Crater.. While you won't get tons of them, the drop rate is better in Silithus.

Which zone you choose is a personal preference, to a point. There are more rich thorium spawn points in Winterspring and Silithus and they have a higher drop rate for arcane crystals. If I'm looking to restock my supply of Essence of Water, I chose Winterspring and kill the water elementals in Frostwhisper Gorge as I go by. Silithus also has air elementals, where you can get Breath of Wind or Essence of Air. And sometimes I just want something different and choose Swamp of Sorrows or Blasted Lands for some shorter farming jaunts.

i agree Sithilis is the place to farm the thorium nodes, In BfA Sithilis gets destroyed when i go there on my main level 120 there are no nodes but my level 90 alt can still go farm there as its not destroyed yet.
hope this helps i know there are other zones to farm in but like i said at the start sithilis is the best place in my opinion

Farming with Druid with 310% flight speed. Spent about 4.5 hours in game actively and diligently farming (no multitasking getting distracted).

I would do 3-4 laps of Silithus then 1-2 Un'goro Crater. For the most part Sili was more productive but, I had one lap of Un'goro that dropped 6 AC. Best lap in Sili was 4. I had plenty of laps of 0. So folks suggest skipping hives but some of the spawns are right at/just inside entrance so are quick to grab.

As previously stated. As of 8.0.1 you need to speak with Zidormi to show you the old Silithus in order to farm the nodes in Silithus.

My results (~4.5 hours):

46 真銀礦石 (they share spawn points with Thorium so clear them out)

2 Hrs mining all Thorium and Truesilver deposits in Winterspring. It was around 140~ nodes mined giving roughly 1 gemstone every 4 nodes mined. Though I did mine multiple gems at once from a single node during this time period. I had a rather high skew towards 秘法水晶, which is my purpose here, and hopefully this data helps any who actively are searching for this specific gem for their 奧金錠 needs.

Mined for 1 hour in Silithus using a 暗月火水 (about 100g on my server). Mined all 瑟銀礦脈, 富瑟銀礦脈, and 真銀礦床 found along the zone's perimeter.

In my time, I received:

For me, the best farming place is Winterspring, there are many spawns of Thorium there.
This is used for 轉化：奧金 which is a reagent for 熔煉附魔堅淬源質錠 which are required by 逐風者桑德蘭.
Basically the painful farming of the bindseekers doesn't stop there.

I think the drop rate was even lower than advertised. Took 134 Thorium Ore farmed before I got my first Arcane Crystal at a rate of 1/3 rich veins and 2/3 small veins farming in both Silithus and Winterspring. Ridiculous.

Edit: 170 Thorium Ore for 2nd Arcane Crystal and 191 Thorium Ore for 3rd Arcane Crystal. Quite inconsistent. Silithus had more nodes however I was competing against at least a dozen other people there. Winterspring was empty.

Edit2: 199 Thorium Ore for 4th Arcane Crystal and the next node gave me 5th Arcane Crystal. Guess they making up for wasting my first half of farming time.

Well i am to confirm that silitus is the place to farm these crystals, i farm for one hour, 22 crystals and 2 time i got back to back crystal proc, this for sure will be my place to farm the mats for arcanite bar, which takes 10 of those per legendary bar, happy farming!

For those interested, you CAN level mining almost to max just through Thorium nodes. The earliest I saw an Arcane Crystal show up was at 80 mining (70 + 10 Highmountain racial), well below the recommended mining level of 200.

Wanting to get 100 of these crystals in order to make 10 Enchanted Elementium Bars for Thunderaan the Windseeker Quest, went to OLD Silithus and flew around the outside ring mining the Thorium Veins

I got anywhere from 0 per pass to 8 per pass.

Using Darkmoon Firewater to cut down on "mining" time, each pass took about 9 min.

One random pass i decided to count the veins i mined. I mined 37 that pass, 25 Small 12 Rich, that particular run i got 4 crystals. (10.81%)

On average it was about 4.57 Crystals per pass. (7 passes in a row that i counted: 3,4,4,5,5,4,7)

Took me just shy of 4 hours to get the 100 crystals i needed.

On my server (Sister's of Elune) Auction House has them for 270 gold each. I can see why, they're a pain in the behind to get.

Got a BUNCH of other crystals and whatnot that i sold on the auction house.

Also, i mined all the truesilver veins i came across, never got a crystal from them, but they did spawn in the same place as the Thorium veins so next pass they were thorium.

I needed Arcane Crystals for my 薩弗拉斯，炎魔拉格納羅斯之手. I decided to use an alt that needed to level mining in Vanilla and she started at level 122. I did a lap around Silithus, Swamp of Sorrows, and 2 laps around Winterspring. I did not see any Arcane Crystals until skill level 194 and then got several pretty quick, all from small veins. This could just be RNG, but wanted to add in case it helps anyone with a similar issue. (Finally started getting crystals from rich veins at 217 skill). Her final skill level was 250. Of the 3 zones, I liked Winterspring the best, seemed like I was seeing more ore nodes than the other 2. Wowhead also shows Winterspring has the most rich veins which is why I ended up there.

For the numbers people, I ended up with 268 Thorium, 18 Truesilver, 349 Dense Stone, 4 Black Vitriol, 2 Star Ruby, 1 Huge Emerald, 1 Blue Sapphire, 3 Azerothian Diamonds, and 8 Arcane Crystals.

These are selling for under 100g currently on my server (EU Lightbringer) and there are thousands of them at that price.
I don't really understand it. At most, miners are making 2k/3k gold an hour at those prices.

Did they increase the "drop" rate of these when mining thorium? It feels like I get them way more now. Used to be like 1/10 per rich thorium deposit, now I am getting them every 2 or 3. I even got 2 crystals in one deposit once. They also seem more common in small deposits too. Also one character I mined ~2000 ore and had like 20-25 crystals (this was last year), in this recent character at ~2000 ore I have 80 crystals, so I believe they did. Maybe they increased the rate when they added the old Naxx patterns?

Drop rate for these seem to be increased during Collector's Bounty per a friend who got them fairly easy during the last Bounty -- But sadly, I am now trying to collect them after Bounty has ended. =(

I've only gotten 1 Arcane Crystal from nearly 20-ish nodes (?) around Un'Goro Crater - I have x62 in my bags, plus x26 that I already smelted. Low drop rates on all the gems (but I am mostly finding Small Thorium Veins):

If you are here farming these for Alchemy decor, after a single lazy circuit of the outer walls of Winterspring (including caves), I net 8 arcane crystals in total.

I have found 悲傷沼澤 a quite calming and leisurely place to farm a surprising amount of 秘法水晶. A simple looping route in a quiet area with many possible node spawns of 瑟銀礦脈, 富瑟銀礦脈, and 真銀礦床, as seen below.
You will also get plenty of 真銀礦石, 瑟銀礦石, 巨型翡翠, 藍寶石, 大蛋白石, 艾澤拉斯鑽石, 黑色硫酸鹽, , 緻密的石頭, Big-Mouth Clams for Tangy Clam Meat & Zesty Clam Meat and a lot more!
