As a jewelcrafter, you will need lots of these when you reach skill 260. They sell for 25g on Dunemaul, so it's best to farm it yourself.
The BEST place is Silithus, in the hives. I got over 40 ores in 20 minutes as a level 66 Arcane Mage.
Then it's just to prospect, and you will get some of these. Then maybe go farm at EPL or Un'Goro Crater, and repeat.

When you're searching for Thorium nodes, keep in mind it's also possible to Prospect this gem from Mithril Ore too, so don't pass by the nodes if you see one. Mithril Ore also has a good chance of a Star Ruby too, when you're leveling Jewelcrafting, items that require Star Ruby are usually yellow.

Prospecting Mithril is quite lame, since a stack of 20 easily goes for 70-90g... for that same money you can buy the Opal and have a 100% of actualy getting what you need. :)
