Another decent place to farm Rich Thorium Veins is Un'Goro. The insectoid nests underground host a decent amount of ooze-covered veins (still the same thing), and fire plume ridge (area with fire elementals) has a decent number of veins as well. Not to mention that the fire elementals are also good to farm for essences and a possible rare spawn!

Any class, if you're careful, can mine the thorium nodes in southern winterspring. There are 2 nodes down there at any given time, with a 5 minute respawn in a different section after you mine one. Simply wait until the tunnels are clear, then go through, mount up, and run along the edges to deaggro.
It is, however, easiest for a rogue; you can mine them much more efficiently. I can usually get about 10-15 nodes an hour, plus some small thorium. If there is competition, a circular route between the northern nodes up to gadgetzan is also productive, although only a stealth class can safely reach the back of mazthoril.

Actually you can separate into 6 area and the Rich Thorium Vein will respawn every 15 mins in each area, one area one piece. The area are The fungal vein, The infactis scar, Pestilent scar, The noxious glade, Northdale and Zul'Marshar. Just follow the this route and you can get your Rich Thorium Vein continousely. Just forget about Scarlet Basilica,'cause it's too dangerous for you.

The screen shot for the Rich Thorium Vein is incorrect. Rich Thorium Veins are larger and are green. They have large crystals growing out from them. I have uploaded an updated picture.

I can usually get 7-9 Rich Veins in one circle of Winterspring, along with a few Small ones that I see on the way from node to node.
I start in Everlook, then I...
1) Head to Ruins of Kel'Theril and get the Rich Vein there(there's always one there, unless it's been mined recently).
2) I head to Mazthoril and pick up the one Rich and one Small in the cave and I port out using the rune at the end.
3) Then I head to Frostwhisper Gorge and get the one Rich Vein there.
4) I then head to Darkwhisper Gorge and get the 2 or 3(sometimes I get 2, sometimes 3) veins there and sometimes a Small vein. Just head clockwise through each little valley, making a detour for the very southern one.
5) I head up towards Owl Wing Thicket and get the Rich Vein there, sometimes it's in a cave, so pay attention to the map because it'll be slightly harder to see because of the terrain on the map + darker color.
6) Up to Winterfall Village and get the Rich Vein there.
7) Northwest up to Frostsaber Rock and grab the Vein there.

Also, when I'm able to do the http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5201 quest, I'll do that quest while I'm at Winterfall and turn it in while I'm at Frostsaber.

Ever since the BC Exp. the nodes for all ores have had expanded spawn times. It also appears that the spawn locations are cyclical in an area. Example: Noxious Glade there are 5 nodes in the glade itself, b ut only 1 will be active at any time, whereas you could normally ride by 3 nodes with ore before BC was released.

I've recently noticed that rich thorium veins can give upwards of 5 taps compared to the max of 4 that they used to give pre-TBC. I've also noticed small thorium veins giving 2-3 taps instead of the 1-2 they used to. Overall this is good news for us smiths/engineers/JC's. Many of us will be forced to mine a good chunk of the thorium required to hit 300 skill due to the shortage of thorium from everyone being in outland where thorium is not present.

I just found a Small Thorium Vein at 63.25 and 49,20 which aren't on the map above.
The guide of Cyborg99 is very very good!Everybody should use it!!!!

Note : Winterspring also have Truesilver Veins in case anyone wonders.
Very Important Note : Veins could have been mined recently so luck would be usefull.

If you are in Winterspring leveling mining, it is well worth is to cruise through Darkwhisper. I kept skipping it, but the first time i rode through i found 4 Rich Thoriums and at least 3 the second time. If you skip it you are a fool.

An interesting note: Due to the increased drop rate of arcane crystals in all thorium veins. For a very short time(275-280) Arcanite Keys can be a good substitute for Imperial Plate bracers for getting some skill up.

I think the best place to farm this is in Winterspring, because it's usually less farmed. Eastern Plaguelands is good also, but there are a lot of cliffs there and a lot of mobs near the vein. Some places in Winterspring is also difficult to access to such as Darkwhisper Gorge (a lot of elite mobs there that can still give trouble to level 70's). Still, in my opinion, the best place to farm thorium is in Winterspring. For a quick thorium farming, from Everlook just go east to Timbermaw Village. There are 3-4 nodes there with a few Timbermaw Shaman and Timbermaw Ursa. After that, go west and go around the frozen lake, there should be a lot of Rich Thorium Vein and a small amount of Small Thorium Vein. While in Timbermaw village, you can also do this quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=8464.

i would like to add that now that WOTLK is out, if you dont wanna mess around with veins not being there of W/E there is a place where there is always about 3 Rich Thorium veins, at the Back exit of Dire mole (east) behind the boss named Alzzin the wildshaper.

I haven't visited Darkwhisper Gorge since I leveled mining on a different character ~patch 3.0.1 and noticed that I no longer have been dismounted when transversing through the cavern passways. I stopped midway inside of one of these passages and although the minimap showed I was indoor and in the center I was not dismounted. I was mounted on the epic DK mount, Acherus Deathcharger.

i reccommend going to burning steppes, as not only can u farm the thorium and whatnot for skill-ups, but i myself have found 2-3 stacks of truesilver there within just a few hours of farming. also u can get the dark iron ore, (which i have found alot of) for the thorium brotherhood. basically u can make alot of gold, and get some rep at the same time

As of July 3rd, 2009, the Hyjal teleport still works.

Run through the Mazthoril Cave to the deepest point and you'll be teleported to Darkwhisper.

You can take on these babies in either Winterspring or Eastern Plaguelands. If you have no competition there or if the time is late then go for the best of it.

Most of the Thorium is found in the southern side and the Sapphire dragon cave with some elites. if you don't want trouble visit the eastern plaguelands but you will have a shorter chance of finding them. though if your a DK or a higher level and willing to fight for it best find the most of them in Darkwhisper Gorge and the Sapphire dragon cave

I have discovered a new Place for thorium in Winter spring, its right above the spot with 3 caves if You're going south . maybe 5 yards away, there's also one available on the rocks at the entrance of the three caves . :D hope that helps.

dont be fooled by the large numbers of pins on the map of the Eastern Plaguelands and Winterspring:

Azshara is the best place for rich thorium veins. very little competition, not many mobs surrounding the veins, and there are very few of other mineral veins so the game engine will pop them up more often

Then soon after looting it, another node spawned right in its place but just had normal ore/stone.

Apparently, literally dozens of spawn points seem to have been added for these in Un'goro Crater. This may be only a (severe) glitch, but spawn amount and rate are over the top. :O

There are now Small and Rich Thorium Vein spawns all around the edge of Un'goro. I have just finished 2 1/2 round trips (me being the only one there between 3:15 and 4:45 a.m. and came out with:
235x Thorium Ore
325x Dense Stone
13x Arcane Crystal
2x Large Opal
3x Star Ruby
1x Blue Sapphire
1x Azerothian Diamond

Just. Bloody. Amazing.

PS: There were even more veins there but I couldn't get at those because of high-level Elite Stegodons (I'm only lvl 49)

i just took one time around in un'goro and i got 85 thorium ores, 3 arcane crystals, 2 star rubys and 3 azerothian crystals. damn that was much. got about 20 rich thorium veins and 3 small. TOO much for me =D

Two quick runs in Un'Goro Crater, just following the mountainside, got me the following:

Ore:

Thorium Ore: 128
Truesilver Ore: 2

Huge Emerald: 5
Azerothian Diamond: 1
Dense Stone: 165

I didn't enter the cave at Lakkari Tar pits, (close to Marshal's Refuge) as two 80's was fighting for two Truesilvers and a Mithril in there.

Picking this road also got me to 300 Mining, as well as 300 Engineering.

TL;DR
Un'Goro Crater is a very sucessfull place to farm Thorium. At least on my server.
I suggest you to check Un'Goro Crater out whenever available, when searching for Thorium.

Note that I ignored every Mithril available, (there were quite a few, fyi) as it goes for a very low price on my server and I already had plenty of it.

edit:
I created a map of the route I took. I basically ran by the edge of the mountainside and entered the few areas accessable between the mountains when I saw them.

You can also (optionally) pick those places that I pinned out on a map. I didn't go there myself, as it would get me away from my route. Who knows, it might held a few veins for you.

Un'Goro is certainly the best place to farm Thorium. Specially if you are a DK with a Blood/Unholy Farm spec or a Paladin with Crusader Aura. The spawn rate for Thorium ore here is INSANE I've even had a couple of respawns at the same point a couple of seconds after I've mined some ore :O

Basically just as the map suggests run around Un'goro in a circle
After around 1 hour of Farming I had 402 Thoruim on me and a couple of Odd Gems
Great to Prospect the Ore and Level your JC or just level you BS with

This Area beats EP and WS hands down!

Latest changes to mine go as follows:

Rich Thorium Vein requires 255 mining (old one: 275)
Truesilver Deposit requires 205 mining (old one: 235)

Also I agree with Un'Goro Crater, seems like the area was upgraded in later patches.
Think of it now as its counterpart Sholazar Basin: The most effective areas to mine Thorium/Saronite.

The best place to farm this, is un'goro, running mounted near to the mountains. I got 100 per every 20 min. if u're alone farming, it's a quite nice place.

Eh, not a fan of EPL and Winterspring. From just taking the circle around the whole cliff edge of Un'goro, ya get a nice amount I'd say. You don't have to fight much (least I didn't) and it doesn't take very long to do. This was on a 54 warrior btw. I ran the circle went to smelt it in gadgetzan then flew back and ran it again.

First round trip (without going to anything special like the monkey cave, bug cave, and the volcano in the middle)
79 thorium ore and about 112 dense stone

Second trip: (actually visiting the above mentioned areas)
87 thorium ore and 108 dense stone

Gems in total: (not much to speak of)
1 Large Opal
2 Azerothian Diamonds
6 Arcane Crystals

My favorite place to farm rich thorium veins has to be Dire Maul East. After you finish the last boss, there will be 2-3 rich thorium veins every time in the tunnel that leads back outside. It is my favorite because you get to kill 3 bosses that drop a total of 4 blues, 2-3 veins, and a chance to grab the rare spawn in the arena outside while farming it. One run through takes me about 10 minutes on my 80 warrior. If you have aspect or sprint, the farming would be much faster.

Un'goro Crater is just purely amazing for farming Thorium, I find a node every 15 seconds or so and there were about 4 other people there farming Thorium too, respawn times are great, once i saw a gold node, mined it, then about 10 yards away there was a rich Thorium vein, mined that, then another thorium vein spawned in place of that gold node, not sure if this is a glitch or not but im not complaining.

Un'Goro Crater is really good for this. Just make a loop around the outside ring. I could easily gather 80-90 ore a loop which only took about 15 minutes.

I was able to get 280 Throium ore, 9 Arcane Crystals, 4 Large Opals, 2 Blue Sapphires, 4 Huge Emeralds, 1 Star Ruby, 2 Azerothian Diamonds, 1 Black Vitriol, 340 Dense Stones in just over an hour of moving clockwise around the edge of Un'Goro. Fairly easy at Level 60 and above.

At level 50, both rich and small thorium veins are giving me 675 (not rested) experience for mining them. It is not that great, but its about twice what I'd be getting for killing mobs my level, and I am making tons of gold at the same time.

Silithus is full of Small Thorium Veins and Rich Thorium Veins and even some Truesilver Veins. I find Silithus a realy good place to farm Thorium Ore, just run around the outher edge of Silithus. I dont think it's worth going down in every cave there, because: If you're low lvl and farming theese (like me) you need to fight mobs alot more and you can't mount up in there. I would rather farm Thorium in Silithus Rather than in Un'Goro, that's because in Un'Goro you got alot of veins inacessable, but not in Silithus.

I am currently leveling the Mining (and BS) on my DK, and with the ports gone in Shatt and Dal, I set my hearth to Dal (My DK is lvl 70 atm). How ever I find the plauglands to be the easiest due to deathgate and hearthing for training.

Winterspring is, IMO, the best zone for Thorium.
Using the Routes/GatherMate2/GatherMate2_Data Addons, I made a path around Winterspring going through most/all of the Small Thorium, Rich Thorium and Truesilver Veins.
I opted to avoid any caves the path might take me through. Here is the path I eventually used.

After about 45 minutes, I had:

314 Dense Stone
231 Thorium Ore
9 Truesilver Ore
8 Arcane Crystal
3 Black Vitriol
1 Azerothian Diamond
1 Blue Sapphire
1 Huge Opal
1 Star Ruby

just tryed ungoro crater, i have to say its a really good place for farming thoriums, there are rich and small deposits and they are mostly found in the edges of the map, just do a round and u can get few stacks...

Just spent a couple hours in Un'goro mining for Thorium here as I was questing here in the mid-50s and needed it anyway. Got 400 ore and assorted gems without too much trouble.

Ok concerning Silithus, I cruised around the edges (hills) only, after 20 mins I got :

101 Thorium ore
143 Dense Stone

At Ungoro Crater, cruising the same way around the edges, after 15 mins I got :

79 Thorium ore
105 Dense stone

I would say those places are alright but not 'Great'.

I will soon be visiting Winterspring to check the veins there.

As for Winterspring, again cruising around the land ( over the hills only), after 20 mins, got :

147 Thorium ore
168 Dense stone

Nothing special but definitely better.
It is also probably the best place for arcane crystals, got 6 out of this run.

All the mentioned cruises were done while mounting a 150% speed flying bird.

Btw: 2 reasons why I only cruise around the land(over hills) only, 1 is because you can mine freely without worrying about mobs or anything like that and second is because after you have taken a full cruise around the land, you can easily get the Explore:'Name of Land' achievement, eventually getting the Explorer Title if you want it.

I'de have to say. when ever i've had to farm Thorium. Un'Goro is the place i've gone every time. if you do a full circle around the outside, it should net you a fair bit. and by the time you reach the end, the ones where you started should have respawned. remember to mine small thorium nodes too! theres a chance a Rich one will respawn in it's place.

Edit: After four loops around the outside of ungoro i ended up with

207 Thorium Ore
238 Dense Stone
7 Truesilver Ore
Random green gems from fains, at least 1/3-1/4 chance of a gem dropping.

Each loop took maybe 2-3mins in Epic flight form.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having farming issues in Silithus. I'm currently mining there, and while the nodes are common and harvesting Thorium was easy, it seems that once I hit 90 Thorium ore units in my bag I am no longer able to receive Thorium from the nodes.

So far I've been stuck at 90, after mining approximately 4 additional Rich Thorium Veins and 2 small veins. All I appear to be able to get from them now is Dense Stone.

However, after re-logging, it seems I am once again able to collect Thorium again. Has this bug ever happened to anyone else?

To farm I suggest going to Swamps of Sorrow I had a lot of luck around there.
Especially in Stagalbog Cave by the bottom, I went in there and came out with 2 stacks of thorium 2 1/2 stacks of dense stone and 2 arcane crystals

I was bouncing around Un'Goro getting Small Thorium to lvl one of my DKs and found a Rich Thorium when I was at 208 and was able to mine it. They must have changed it to 205? I'm at 212 now & leaving for Winterspring and it wasn't a fluke, I can get all the Rich.

This is a great ore to farm, not only because of its abundance in Winterspring, but the gems that come from this.
I farmed 340 ore and sent them to my jewelcrafter to be prospected. Here are the results:
Huge Emerald x32
Large Opal x25
Azerothian Diamond x23
Blue Sapphire x14
Star Ruby x3
32+25+23+14+3=97 Gems ---> 2000g
340 ore ---> 510g
340 bars---> 780g
It is obvious that you will make a lot more money prospecting your leftover thorium ore or having someone do it for you.

Edit: You cannot obtain Arcane Crystal through prospecting. It can only be found while actually mining thorium veins.

For those of you who are thinking of finding Thorium in Winterspring, go somewhere else. Either the terrain is terrible or there's 600 furbolgs in your way. Go to Un'goro or Silithus. Both of their Thorium spawn points are generally in a loop, so you can just go around the edges and farm that way.

I used to always mine for thorium in Winterspring, but today I was in Silithus. and in one circle around the map I got 146 thorium ore. More than 60% of the veins I found were rich. All I did was fly straight up the flight path (if your alliance) and just started a full circle around the map. And I circled around the mountain in the northwest corner and found a few more. I only did one circle around the map because I didn't need that many so I don't know about the respawn of them. But I would definitely recommend trying this out.

Despite the changes in mining, it still requires mining skill of 215 to gather. Maybe they missed a few deposits and herbs (Ragveil too for example).

I spent an hour farming in Winterspring and here are my results:

Addon was telling me Arcane Crystals were about a 20% drop rate. Either it recently went up or RNGesus was on my side today.

After over 40 nodes of these and still no arcane crystals I say the drop rate is bull$%^&.

I mined in Silithus with a level 1 Miner, I could mine all sizes of Thorium to get thorium nuggets. After 48 Ores mined, I found only a Blue Sapphire but no Arcane Crystal what so ever, even though the Crystal's drop rate is higher.

Until someone can confirm you can get Arcane Crystal before lvl 215, I say it is not possible.

You’re going to want to gather every single mining node you find in this zone, in order for the respawn to kick in after a complete look around the route. Which means you’ll be needing to go into the cave and gather all the ore in there, as well as everything on the outside.

This is a contested zone.

I love farming this location because it nets a ton of Thorium Ore. It also has several ore in underground hives that I don't go into. Despite this, the amount of ore you can get in this zone is great. Best of all, you don't get too close to any opposing faction areas.

Thorium Ore – 462

★ Un'Goro Crater ★
This is a contested zone.

And I'm actually kind of surprised that it didn't net as much ore as I'd thought it would. The nodes aren't as clustered and close together as the ones in Silithus, however it's a very simplistic route that circles the border of the zone.

Thorium Ore – 368

★ Winterspring ★
This is a contested zone.

The first route in Winterspring isn't a bad one and can net you a lot of ore. This zone has a lot of trees that could get in the way of your finding one of the ore nodes, but that's the only annoyance.
