With 3 days into the Patch, the best way to farm Miscellaneous Mechanica seems to be continuous kills of any of the Cartel-specific Rares (e.g. Voltstrike the Charged, Scrapchewer, M.A.G.N.O., Giovante), especially when you are Renown 6 and can start their spawn events. The chance to drop Mechanica doesn't seem to be removed after the first kill of the day.These are the currency for 3 mount and 6 battle pet purchases on the vendors Skedgit Cinderbangs and Ditty Fuzeboy in Undermine:/way #2346 43.25 82.84 Skedgit Cinderbangs (Mounts)

So far, I found these 3 sources:

They are a random drop from most (if not all) Rares in Undermine.
I got 1-2 from every Goblin Cartel Paragon reward (e.g. Venture Co. Trove, but not The Cartels of Undermine Paragon!). I never got a mount from these Paragon rewards during PTR, so be prepared that Mounts & Mechanica exclude each other.
I also found them in Overflowing Dumpsters when I learned how to dumpster dive by reaching Renown 13 with The Cartels of Undermine.

Personal conclusion 2025, Feb 7 (Build 58945):
11.1 PTR testing was now available for 1 month and I only got 12 Mechanica (of 113 required to purchase all 9 items).
I only got 1 from dumpster dive so far (but only had that available for 10 days due to the Renown requirement and didn't overdo because it's boring).
The only reliable source was Cartel Paragon rewards, but I wouldn't even count the 5 Mechanica I got there because we need 6K+12K+21K to get to Exalted and then 10K repeatedly to get these rewards and that's absurd, and only worked because I could exploit the reputation grind on PTR (and did to at least see what's in the Paragon rewards)
I barely skipped my daily Rare tour (that's 30 days x 10 or more Rares = 300++ kills) and only got 6. So unless Blizzard changes something on the heavy RNG, players who want to push for the purchases probably want to continue killing them (as Rare) with alts even after claiming their The Cartels of Undermine reputation for the day/week.

currently the mounts are marked as "binds when used" meaning they CAN be sold on the auction house friends :) THE MOUNTS AND PETS NOT THIS ITEM THE ITEMS YOU BUY WITH THEM SINCE CLEARLY THIS IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND.

I got one after 40-50 Rare kills. I got mine from Ratspit

after 11Days later:
after about 500 Rare kills I have now 13 Miscellaneous Mechanica.
it will be a hard grind to farm all Mount/Pets.

after 29 Days later:
I kill every week with 18 Chars a minimum of 300 Rares.
I have now one Mount and 21 Miscellaneous Mechanica so 46 Miscellaneous Mechanica over all.

Its now 43 Days from my first Miscellaneous Mechanica drop and my Post, I have now all 3 Mounts and 3 Miscellaneous Mechanica.
Now im going for the Pets. I still update this Post. I just wanna say if I had not 18 Chars this is impossible or would take Month or Years..
This is not the right way Blizzard goes..

After 57 Days of farming ..
After I get my mount's I only farm a minimum of 200 Rares per week.
That mean that I only kill like 400 Rares the last 2 weeks.
I get the 38 Mechanica for the Pets in this 2 weeks.
This means that im just lucky or the ratio about the drop rate has change to 1 every 10 kills.
Weekly and cartell Rares have a 3-4 times higher chance to drop the Mechanica.
This was my last comment update.

Mechanagopher needs to have price updated to 5. Same for Blackwater Kegmover, Steamwheedle Flunkie, and Venture Companyman. Professor Punch costs 8 and the Crimson Mechasaur is 10.

My experience trying to farm Miscellaneous Mechanica in the Undermine zone ..
( All 3 mounts collected using the rules below as of 3/26/2025 )

Cartel rares can drop these even after the first kill of the week. (proven by FlipMethod above)
M.A.G.N.O. ,Voltstrike the Charged ,Giovante ,Scrapchewer
( I only kill cartel rares once a week per toon )

Larger elite rares can drop these once a WEEK per toon.
Darkfuse Precipitant ,Flyboy Snooty ,The Junk-Wall ,Chief Foreman Gutso ,Slugger the Smart ,Ephemeral Agent Lathyd

The 10 smaller rares can drop these once a DAY per account and first kills of the week per character. (still a working theory)

Meaning ANY character can down the first 10 different rares below per day. AFTER that, any alternate that has not killed the set of 10 rares below for the week seems to have a better chance at getting them to drop. (a.k.a. the working theory) /shrug Who knows.

Swigs Farsight ,S.A.L. ,Grimewick ,Tally Doublespeak ,V.V. Goosworth ,
Thwack ,Nitro ,Ratspit ,Candy Stickemup and Scrapbeak with the Elite Gallagio Garbage being daily also.
( Small rares also drop 1 renown token once daily, warband locked )

Dumpster diving in Overflowing Dumpster 's can drop these also.

I see fishing was added for possible drops also.
While waiting for the low health V.V. Goosworth to spawn and Candy Stickemup maybe give a few casts in the slime pools.

They either need to up the drop rate on these or make the mounts and pets only cost around 5

I can't get past 11 of these. I've opened hundreds of dumpsters and killed every rare since launch. Is this timegated or something?

The drop rate on these is truly bad. I have a grand total of 6 after killing every rare up every day since launch. I've also spent hours farming the dumpsters and have not seen a single one from there. If the pets weren't being sold for so much on the AH, I'd just give up and buy them for gold.

I understand where they're coming from with these, but the drop rate does seem a little low. 25 days to get enough to buy the mount seems fair, but that's not really how this seems to be working out. Ah well.

Edit: Oh right, there's two mounts for this, so you need 50. That seems a bit high for a drop rate like this.

I might just be unlucky, but I've gotten two total since the patch dropped and have been playing almost daily doing Undermine stuff and killing rares. The drop rate is truly abysmal.

Being a collector is becoming less and less fun with every patch introducing several new grinds for X currency. I'm close to giving up entirely.

Update July 13: I have been doing all Undermine content, killing all rares weekly and daily when possible, and farming dumpsters. And I now have seven total. Seven, For the first bit I was averaging about one or two a week, but haven't seen a single drop in over two months. If you're in a similar boat, submit a bug report, because at this point I find it hard to believe this is just bad luck. Or subit suggestions, post on forums, etc. This is absurd.

They really need to switch the drop rate between the vintage kola's and this item. Only 2 after weeks of doing all the Undermine content, but I've got a bunch of vintage kola's and nothing to spend them on except worthless piles of sifted scrap.

Today I summoned Scrapchewer 6 times on cooldown with the same character. On the 6th kill it dropped 1x miscellaneous mechanica.
The rare also dropped C.H.E.T.T. Cards on each kill. (collecting 40 of these cards rewards you with 500 repuation for the cartel of your choice.

So in my findings by repeat summoning the cartel rares you can farm these two currencies.

The droprate is extremely low and needs an increase yesterday. I haven't got any for a long time and I kill all rares atleast once a day (not anymore since its just stupid now).
Putting in several reps and giving mounts as carrot on sticks. And thats no enough, we get 4 more paragon mounts. But how many Chett lists is needed? It is doable with my 65 chars. How will normal players do? Where is the inclusiveness here?

"You dont have to" some might say. Yeah, I don't. But we are all item/mount farmers more or less in this game and this is the content we get. Must be real highclass game developement here creating content and forcing players to farm recolour mounts in low droprates and tons of repfarm. Collecting mounts used to be fun.
The question is, would we play Undermine if there were no mounts, pets and toys? Think about it.

My suggestion, make thing easy and fun. We don't mind farming but atleast don't get us burned out! You can do better.
Personally I like Undermine but put some more fun in it. Where is the fun? Dailies? WQ? Weeklies? Summoning rare bosses?
Where is the fun Blizzard? Yeah, I know. The game is not for us anymore.

Absolutely ridiculous man! I have been running around hardcore dumpster diving and killing rares for a week and a half now and haven't seen one of these. I am almost renowned 19 now. I see the drop rate more like less than 1% if you ask me. I guess Paragon is made to be the main source. We will see soon.

Obscenely rare... I've been killing every rare DAILY since Launch of the patch, literally, and only got 3 so far 4 weeks on... and they expect me to gather 113 of them to get ALL collectibles?

Every rare should have a 50% chance of dropping them!

That 5% drop chance must be a joke, I've been killing the silver dragon rares all day, about 4-5 rares with 10 alts, and I've got ONE single drop in total. Not to mention the dumpsters, I've never even seen one dropping at all.

Not sure how we're supposed to get 113 of these in total. I guess blizz definitely wanted to mess with the players, that's why we also have paragon chests.

Like everyone below, been killing all rares, doing all world quests, achievements, farming S&H, scrap, daily, and I have 14 of these. Needing 113 is obscenely criminal, hope they buff the drops otherwise this will be impossibly grindy for collectors.

Edit: One month later, I have 18 in total. I'm not going to grind these.

Just received a Paragon box Steamwheedle Trove and it DID NOT contain any mechanica. So 1-2 mentioned before is either not guaranteed or some troves are bugged. That makes farming hundreds of Elite Rares (both summoned and regular ones) on multiple alts due to weekly lockout pretty much the only reliable way to get mechanica mounts and pets currently. May change in the future (blizzard has sometimes changed similar insane grinds in the past) but don't count on it.

UPD: checked Darkfuse Trove page. It currently has a 50% chance to contain 1-2 mechanica. In other words a 0.75 mechanica per 10k rep after you get exalted. And those boxes are only useful if you still need a mount.

Drop rate on these is so bad, i have only just found it's a currentcy. Please buff the rate on these. I kill rares every day, dumpster dive etc and I got my first one since the release of season 2. Extremely poor rate and design

I would love to find a way for scrapping all the other parts from the Undermine rares (like e.g., Steamboil Fuel Tank) to Miscellaneous Mechanica, even with a 1:10 ratio.

For those curious and bored enough to drag (i.e. have summoned to Undermine) sub-80 alts, know that Miscellaneous Mechanica does indeed drop from the rares for lower level alts (confirmed at lvl 70 and 71).

When you don't have enough alts at 80, and the grind is this bad, you get desperate. And in order to actually kill the rares with your lowbies, you stand around waiting for 80's to swoop in. Thankfully, that doesn't take long. For now.

Additionally, don't bother scrapping for Market Research while you wait around - you cannot loot the chests at the end. Same goes for all treasures in the zone. Must be level 80. Market Research WILL drop from rares however - and every bit counts with that grind.

I was getting very frustrated with the drop rates on these. I played after reset today 4-15, and I got three! One from the cartel rares and 2 from regular rares. I think Blizzard may have increased the drop rates for these, maybe.

Do these still drop on repeat kills of Cartel rares?

Last week I killed Giovante rares around 4-5 extra times on each of my 9 alts. There was no drop on repeat kills, only got on some 1st kills for the respective alts.

Most of them have been from dumpsters. I've never gotten one from a repeat kill or from fishing.

Blizzard knows exactly how atrocious the drop rate for these are. They intentionally did it because all the mounts and pets you buy with these are tradeable. They want people to get discouraged from grinding these and instead buy them from the AH using gold bought from the in-game shop. They are abusing their playerbase to make money.

Two weeks in a row now, I'm still stuck on 3. Horrifically bad luck. I'm feeling quite frustrated. None off rares, none from dumpsters. The pets are running from 600k to a couple million on the AH. Not cool.

Last week and the week before, I got some relatively quickly at the beginning (first 1–3 days), and then nothing. Could be a coincidence, of course. Today (new WoW week in the EU) it seems to start similarly: I got 2 from the first 4 rare kills. Let's see what the rest of the week is like…

I want to share my insights into no-life farming Miscellaneous Mechanica across 10 characters every day over the last two weeks, killing every daily and weekly rare, and farming Overflowing Dumpsters in between, just so that I could get the 3 mounts:. Now that I have all 3 mounts, here's my experience:

Across my 10 characters this was approximately 100 rares and 300-400 dumpsters per day. Each character took about 30-40 mins per day to finish, so overall around 6 hours per day to do all my characters. My realm is moderately busy but rares would often stay up for a couple of mins after spawning so there was usually enough time to get to most of them, and not many people were farming dumpsters on my realm so I essentially got all of those.
I received on average about 5 Miscellaneous Mechanica total per day. Although there were outliers where once I got 1 in a day, and once I got 9 in a day.
After sweeping through all the dumpsters, they take approximately 10mins to respawn and they usually spawn about 10-15 dumpsters at once together across the zone. These were probably my best source of mechanica solely due to the volume. Most dumpsters can be looted without combat but there are about 4 dumpster locations where you need to kill npcs to loot them.
I had two life saving weakauras that I could not have done this farm without:
An Undermine rare tracker so that I knew what rares I killed per character each day (there are a few that exist on wago).
The Undermine - Minimap Treasure Icon Colors which allowed me to customise the colours of dumpsters on the minimap to appear as one colour so I could identify them visually on the minimap instead of needing to mouseover every treasure.

I naturally accumulated 7.7k Market Research from rares and dumpsters during this grind for 42k Darkfuse Solutions rep with the DMF buff. I'm already exalted so I used a paragon cache to get the last two mechanica.
I also got enough C.H.E.T.T. Card each character each week for an extra Chett list per character for bonus cartel rep week. Similarly, I got about 100k Resonance Crystals from this grind.
For rares:

The rares near the Incontinental Hotel, Nitro, Tally Doublespeak, and Swigs Farsight, you can tag them then run to the Incontinental Hotel doors to alert the guards who will run to the rares and will kill them in seconds.
For V.V. Goosworth & Slimesby, note that Slimesby doesn't drop anything - only V.V. Goosworth drops rewards as a rare so feel free to kill him only and bail on the slime.

This grind was absolutely disgusting and I hate that I had to stoop to doing this degenerate farm. There is just no way it will be possible for a person with a single character to realistically get all the mounts and pets within an acceptable timeframe with the current drop rate. If you play on a super busy realm and struggle to get the rares and dumpsters then this makes it even harder. I hope Blizzard significantly buffs the drop rate so that no one else has to resort to what I did cause this is just pure disrespect to players' time.

Very low drop rate. I used 28 toons to kill the M.A.G.N.O rare event this week. None of them got a miscellaneous drop this week. Nor with some random rare killing in zone. More like missing-laneous mania. Looks like I'll be stuck at 11 of these from last few weeks of farming.

So, it's May 2025 now. I've been playing a lot (and I mean A LOT) in Undermine since day 1, on 15 toons. Killed tons of rares. And I have..... 9 of these things now. I don't mind a bit of grinding, but this is just no fun.

Today (May 10, 2025) I received a Miscellaneous Mechanica from one of the big dumpsters (dumpster diving). It seems to be rare - after killing rares in Undermine most days since launch, I have a total of only 12 Miscellaneous Mechanica. But the possibility of getting them from dumpsters exists, apparently.

This needs To be changed, Grind is fine but RNG on this make it terrible, I rather they made them purchasable for a currency that you have to grind, Which would Eliminate RNG but still require big effort.

Just to give another small overview of how crazy and mind-dumbing this farm is that people are doing.
In 10 hours , on exactly 10 characters I've killed almost every rare, except 1-2 and I've opened every Overflowing Dumpster I came across on each character. Remember this is 20-21 Rares and loads of dumpsters on each character.

So from 200+ rares and a truck load of dumpsters I have gotten:
ONE Miscellaneous Mechanica
Yes I repeat, ONE.
It was from a dumpster and thats the first time I got one from it.

Don't do this farm, just save yourself some time until they do something about it. I doubt they will, but hey, it's Blizzard. Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed while you are already disappointed.

Even though I collect mounts, I simply gave up farming this. Since the patch was released, I’ve only gotten three items and haven’t been able to get any more. How am I supposed to collect 75 to buy the three mounts?

Does anyone have expierience with paragon boxes on this? I am grinding the cartells at the same rate and did not finish Darkfuse yet, so I dont know if those boxes maybe contain a few of those.

Edit: I opened 2 Darkfuse boxes now, first one contained 2 of these, the second only one (no mount, which I was grinding for so far). I think that is kinda low...

Almost seems like the drop rate decreased, because I haven't seen one drop in weeks. Not saying they actually have decreased, probably just bad luck for an already stupidly low-drop item. I really would rather the mounts be BoP like normal and the currency be more common.

It's now June and I kill the relevant bosses weekly, open every dumpster as soon as they appear and pretty much spend half my waking life in pursuit of this currency. I have, to date, managed to pick up 9 since introduction. They are bordering on the rarity of rocking horse pooh, so any new info on where Blizz are hiding them would be appreciated.

Okay, my dear friends, listen to me.
So, we have several ways to farm mechanica:
1) 1% chance from non elite rare
2) 4-5% chance from elite rare (there are 5 of them in Undermine)
3) 5-6% chance frome cartel elite rare (there are also 5 of them)
4) 100% chance drop of 1-2 mechanica from paragon chests, if you already looted mount
5) 1% chance from Overflowing Dumpster
6) Also it shows that can be fished, but I don't know the chance, but it seems to be soooo looow drop too

So, what did I do?
I have 11 toons. With every of them, I did:
1) Killed 5 elite rares
2) Killed 2-3 cartel rares - you can always summon two rares by yourself, one is from picled cartel of the week, and second is Darkfuse rare, And usually someone always summone another cartel rare
3) Killed 1-2 non elite rare
4) Cleared 7-10 Overflowing Dumpsters

I did it during one month - 4 weeks in a row and guess how many Mechanica I got? 14! Only 14 with 11 toons doing almost all activities in Undermine. I literally LIVED there for a month.
For one toon I spent 30-50 minutes average,

P.s. Friend of mine, who farms this poo poo since 11.1 tells than last month mechanica drop rate like being decreased, because if he in average sells 4 mount a month (1 mount a week) since March. then last month he could farm only for 1 mount isntead of 3-4 as before. He got all his stuff and moved to live in Undermine with his 45 toons.
May be he also got unlucky, but looks like drop rate is reaaaaaallly low, or was more decreased.

I tried thes shet and I dont like it. Maybe better, easiser and safier for health is to just buy them..

Here is my advice for this garbage. If you must, absolutely must have all the mounts and don't want to spend gold, good luck and god speed.

If you want one mount that you will use all the time, and don't want to farm this #$%^, go buy it with gold.

But if you just want +3 to your collection, then go finish the 5 reps to revered and get those paragon mounts then go home, come back later, like 3 expansions later when they introduce TWW Timewalking and you can just buy the TW badges. And if that's what you plan to do, then start saving TW badges now so you can spam the rep when it's time and just get the mechanica from the paragon boxes.

With the release of BFA TW today I was able to just go back and buy the missing rep I needed for my alliance mounts, I never played alliance at the time outside of the main story for the achievements, and figured why not just do the same here, farm three mounts on easy mode that I will never use when it is easy.

Honestly, i'll probably wait till next patch, see if the drop rate gets buffed (hopefully). If it doesn't, i'll buy 2 mounts on the AH and get 25 for the third one. Farming 75 of these is absurd at the current % rates, and it's not like we'll be much in undermine next season.

I think people have the wrong idea, These are rare in the beginning of Undermine questing if you are looting the rares and trash cans but once you get your reputations to exalted, they start dropping relatively quickly from the weekly troves. I've collected 55 so far and by far most all have come from the troves.

I've also picked up quite a few from the trash cans but mainly, they drop from the troves after you hit exalted with a faction. I've only received a few from rares of any kind.

You only need one exalted reputation to start 'farming' them though the weekly rep quests. The first trove you get has a 33% or so chance of a faction specific mount, after you get that drop every single trove will drop 1-2 Miscellaneous Mechanica.

The troves are only 10K rep so you can easily get 1-2 per week with just Tuesday's quests, about 20 minutes of effort. In 15 weeks you will have ~25 mechanica

If that is not fast enough you can grind 25 mechanica in about 30 hours with Darkfuse rep groups, there are always custom groups in LFG. It's a soul crushing grind though.

Unpopular opinion: i don't mind a few rare/hard/exclusive things in the game. You can spend extra time to stand out if you choose. If everything was easy, nobody would care about anything and everybody would be bored.

I think I may have found something although I might be mistaken... I think there might have been some minor change to these in the past which caused them to bug or something.
With Alunira I had a similar situation and I seem to recall someone mentioning that putting the shards for Alunira in the Warband bank had caused them to not drop for them anymore and I BELIEVE a similar thing is happening here.
I have started to not keep any of these in my bags anymore. Instead, I collect and hold them in the mailbox of a bank char of mine. Since I've started to do that, these things once again started dropping for me. I had like 6 after the first few weeks, then none for 2-3 months and now I'm up to 15 without trying to hard.

The exalted troves might work better and make the normal farming from mobs and dumpsters obsolete, I don't know.
Since I was trying to get all of them to exalted at roughly the same time, I didn't pay much attention to that.

This might be coincidental... Once I started mailing them off, these started dropping for me again... so maybe I just got hyped and farmed more than before... but honestly, I don't believe it since I've done most of the achievements down there while on my dry streak and since they started dropping again I'm doing less overall content in Undermine since there's nothing left to do...

I have been farming this for the last week and I play with 2 accounts to increases my chances. It’s been working pretty well but 1 observation that I’m not 100% certain on is, I strongly believe the following:

1) the first person to loot a dumpster gets the 1% chance at a mechanica. Any subsequent looting from anyone else is at 0% chance at a mechanica. I don’t believe my alt has ever gotten one being the second looter. I finally had an instance where my alt got a mechanica after my main looted the dumpster. Update 7/16/25 Multiple people can get mechanica from a single dumpster. Both my main and alt received a mechanica from a dumpster.

2) multiple people can get mechanica from rares. I have had a mechanica drop for my main and alt from Slugger before.

3) everyone in the party needs to tag the rare or be brought into combat in order to be eligible for a chance at a mechanica. I usually afk on my alt while my main does all the work and the only time I have received a mechanica on my alt was when they were brought into combat/tagged the rare. I need to do more testing. AFK alt did not get hit nor tag rare but still received mechanica.

My PB from 1 day of mechanica farming has been 13 mechanica. Rares and dumpsters only. No troves.

I will continue to update my findings.

There is no best way to farm these, it's just the sheer volume on rares and Overflowing Dumpsters you can grind. But out of the hundreds of dumpsters I farmed, I got a total of 3 Misc Mechanica. If you have multiple accounts, it's most efficient to play them together and farm rares at the same time. Another thing you can do is turn in Completed C.H.E.T.T. List for whatever faction you're exalted with to get the renown boxes. This will guarantee you a few after you've collected the mount from the box.

I am glad to report that it appears the drop rate for these has been increased as of 11.2. In the months between 11.1 and today, I had gotten a grand total of TWO in the midst of almost daily boss kills, dumpsters, etc in Undermine. In the two weeks since I have gotten 4 Mechanica drops, and they are coming much much more frequently. Of course I could be wrong and this could just be a freak occurrence, but Im hoping others have had this experience also. Has anyone else noticed this?

Since Undermine is old content now, I changed my strategy to a long-running one, with approx. 20 minutes invest each week - focusing on the three weekly quests offered by Smaks Topskimmer which yield a huge reputation gain for a chosen cartel, Many Jobs, Handle It!, Reduce, Reuse, Resell, and Urge to Surge . If the reputation bar is almost full, I throw in world quests with a reputation reward or a Completed C.H.E.T.T. List for short-term gratification.

My math: With at least 6k rep each week (sometimes there are reputation bonuses) one gets 3 troves (e.g., Bilgewater Trove) for 5 weeks. With an evenly distributed yield of 1 and 2 Miscellaneous Mechanica per trove this calculates the stretch to be at the very most around two years -- But overall this is just 42 hours net effort for three mounts and six pets. I think we have seen worse for both pets and mounts. MUCH worse.

So we are in a new patch now and the drop rate is still horrible i'm at my worst luck now 50+ rares killed and over 100 Dumpsters looted and not a single Miscellaneous Mechanica to see. Been doing some digging around and i see that according to Data for Azeroth only 0,1668% WoW Accounts have Margin Manipulator in their mount collection. it's been 6 months since Undermine went live and only 0,1668% of the player base have that mount. This numbers are just horrible Blizzard.

I have great success farming those by farming the 5 "weekly rares": Slugger the Smart, Flyboy Snooty, The Junk-Wall, Chief Foreman Gutso and Ephemeral Agent Lathyd.
Of course only the first kill each week has a chance to drop one, but I have around 20 chars, so plenty of tries. I'm getting a Miscellaneous Mechanica roughly every 2nd char, so for me it's roughly 10% per rare. I've farmed 18 of Miscellaneous Mechanica in two weeks, so way better than just farming rep and getting 1-2 a week. Obviously my sample size is still not big enough, so I'd be interested if I was just lucky (quite a few times!).

I managed to farm 25x Miscellaneous Mechanica in a single week by pretty much killing all rare spawns on as many alt characters as possible.

1x Miscellaneous Mechanica from Darkfuse Paragon Chest
1x Miscellaneous Mechanica from Weekly Cartel Faction Paragon Chest
2x Miscellaneous Mechanica from Daily Rares
21x Miscellaneous Mechanica from Weekly Rares

I had 28 characters level 80 parked in Undermine and just logged in to each, killed as many rare spawns as I can find, while prioritizing weekly rares and only killing daily rares whenever I happen to run into one.

Some issues I've ran into using this strat :

- Only 2-3 characters (besides my main) had ilvl high enough to almost solo the weekly rares, otherwise I had to wait on other players to come and kill it along side me, so there was a fair amount of time spent on each character.
- Cartel specific weekly rares were very painful to find and kill considering they require a player who picked that particular faction for the week to be able to summon it, and the fact that the cartel picking quest is account-wide, I couldn't hop on an alt character and summon the rare I needed and switch back, so I had to either wait on random players to trigger the fights, or skip them entirely and move on with other rares.

I used the following Weakauras to track the weekly/daily rares I killed :

After four weeks of clearing not just those five big rares - but all of the Undermine rares - and not seeing a single drop, the fifth week I did the 'pick a cartel' and did Smaks' three weekly quests (for the first time ever on this alt) and these started dropping from rares.. Maybe it's a hidden prereq to trigger them to be in the loot tables or maybe I'd just been #$%^ed for four weeks and it was coincidence, idk..

Blizzard here literally abuses the fact that collectors in this game invested too much to quit/give up so they keep giving us most disgusting grinds, thinking we are going to do anyway.
Every day I feel like my good memories in this game is getting replaced by sickening grinds with zero fun and its matter of time I quit this shiet.

Blizzard got me on this one. I gave up. The grind was too extreme and not fun for me. I admire my fellow mount farmers out there, that you have the steadfastness to grind for this. I eventually caved in and bought some wow tokens to just buy the mounts of AH. Too bad i had to do that. Normally i don't mind the grind. I farmed for the pets tho. But i bought all 3 mounts.

I hope blizzard don't make something like this again. I think i speak for all when i say this was really poor game design.

I've been playing since the start of 11.2, killing about 10 rares every week and completing all three weekly quests. I also completed the entire story on one character and opened the Paragon reputation chest about 10 times. I've NEVER received a SINGLE Miscellaneous Mechanica drop. It seems my account isn't fulfilling some hidden requirement.

Perhaps this is because I leveled my Earthen to level 80 with the Midnight pre-order and was immediately exalted with the Cartels as a whole (but not with each one individually).

I decided to grind Miscellaneous Mechanica to get all the mounts and pets without buying them on the AH, which would require 113 of the item. As others have mentioned, there are many methods of getting the item to drop, but they are inconsistent and rare. In the end, I found that it took me basically since the release of the patch till the end of Dec 2025 (basically the end of the expansion) to obtain all 113 items, at which point I had accumulated roughly 150 - 200 of each of the other item drops e.g. Steamboil Gears.

I ended up getting most of my mechanica from more 'consistent' sources instead of inconsistent drops from rares, by getting rep with the 4 major goblin cartels and opening the repeatable exalted troves e.g. Blackwater Trove. These drop 1 - 2 mechanica each turnin. If you are exalted with Darkfuse Solutions, you can also get mechanica from their exalted troves, which offers an option of grinding Market Research to grind rep, but this is now severely nerfed, and probably isn't worth the hassle (I passively collected these, myself, and never bothered to farm them, even during the rep buff + hyperspawn abuse where many groups were doing it). Note that the trove for The Cartels of Undermine itself does NOT drop mechanica.

The most efficient way of getting these rep is as follows:
- The three main weekly quests, Urge to Surge; Many Jobs, Handle It!; and Reduce, Reuse, Resell, which can be picked up at the Intercontinental Hotel. These award 1k rep for your weekly choice of cartel and are ACCOUNT-WIDE once-a-week.
- The four side-quests either for Zuldazar or Ringing Deeps. These rotate for each zone weekly, and can be a combination from a set of quests. These award 500 rep each for your chosen cartel and are ACCOUNT-WIDE once-a-week.
- CHETT list completion requires a random 4 of list of tasks, which can be picked up in the Intercontinental. This is CHARACTER-WIDE once-a-week. After you have turned this in, CHETT cards drop randomly off mobs, of which 40 can be combined to form a new CHETT list, surpassing the weekly limit. However, this is rather inefficient, unless you're willing to mindlessly grind mobs. Personally, I did 13x CHETT lists across said number of characters every week for the duration of farming. Rewards 500 rep per turn-in.*
- World quests. These award 50 rep each and are ACCOUNT-WIDE twice a week. I did these on one character weekly. You can kind of min-max these by selecting different cartels every week, as mentioned in the comments, but for a meagre 50 - 100 rep a week, it's not mandatory.
- Rares. The non-elite rares reset once a DAY, and the elites reset once a WEEK. They also have a very rare chance of directly dropping mechanica. I didn't bother to farm these from the start as the returns were rather poor. Nice surprise to have a drop, but not worth hoping for drops or going out of the way to kill every rare every week. The exception might be summoning Darkfuse Precipitant (requires exalted with Darkfuse Solutions) for a chance at the mount if you don't have it yet. The mount itself is on a WEEKLY lockout PER CHARACTER (which I farmed on 13 characters until it dropped).
- Looting from trash cans. Another rare drop, and there are 'overflowing' as well as 'normal' trashcans. The former requires a cast time to loot, whereas the latter is instant, which is a bit weird since they seem to have the same chance (very rare) of dropping mechanica, and I felt it was not worth looting the overflowing ones at all. I just looted the normal ones if I was already dismounted nearby, but didn't bother going out of the way to loot them.

All-in-all, a terrible grind. If you don't care about getting the items immediately, just do the top two options (3 major quests from intercontinental, and the 4 side-quests where the rocket into Undermine is). Maybe CHETT list if you're feeling keen. Everything else is marginal gains after that.

*On a side-note, the most efficient CHETT list tasks to complete seemed to be:

VERY EASY
- side with a cartel. basically a freebie.
- kill 3 rares (this was how i would randomly get a small amount of drops, but mainly did these to complete CHETT lists).
- scrap: just afk while sitting on the barrel. if you pick up one of the blue circle power-ups, you'll get a bit extra currency to buy other stuff, but you'll be swimming in this far before your grind ends anyway. you'll also likely have to do the annoying mini event that prevents you from channeling once per event, so make sure you don't afk entirely.
- Desire to drive. do 2 races. Can either be the car race or the flying one. They don't have to be part of a world quest, either, so you can just pick one and do the same race twice.
- side gig. Since you'll be doing the 4 side gig quests, this is also passive. You only need to do ONE, which is great. Since I was doing CHETT lists on 13 characters, it was nice to have this task on multiple characters and basically do one on each. some quests are easier than others, so just pick the easiest ones e.g. killing the big shark in Zuldazar or the bomb-dropping quest in Ringing Deeps.

REQUIRES A BIT OF EFFORT
- ship right. complete this while doing the weekly for urge to surge, but not very efficient otherwise.
- delves, either sidestreet sluice or excavation site. Just do these on level 1 and be done with them. Not worth the time unless you get a bad set of tasks, but also not terrible.
- kaja crushing. not terrible, usually you can passively finish this, especially if you pair with desire to drive. However, once i was getting efficient with my routing, i'd have to go out of the way to do a few laps to finish this.

SKIP. NOT WORTH DOING.
- gotta catch a few (battle pets). specifically 5. i'm an avid pet collector, but this was such a slog. maybe one would have been fine, but capturing 5 (not just battling 5, if you accidentally kill one). Just do another task unless you have to.
- garbage day. loot 25 garbage cans. Hard skip. Just don't.
- war mode killing players. good luck finding people actually doing pvp in Undermine. skip.
- go fish. maybe if you like fishing? i didn't even bother.

** Adding this because it isn't very clear on how to get rep from the CHETT list turnin: you do NOT want to turn it in to the CHETT list 'quest-giver' in the Intercontinental hotel, which is some kind of machine on the 2nd floor. All this does is provide progress towards the achievement, CHETT-mate. Instead, you will want to buy the Finder's Fee item from the quartermaster of the cartel you have chosen for the week (the item only appears for that specific quartermaster, and not for the other three).

At 24 mechanica and I'm exalted with all but Darkfuse, and have all the mounts from paragon chests except Steamwheedle. Been doing this off and on every other week or so (rep to get paragon chest with steamwheedle) and still no mount, but getting a trickle of mechanica.

Terrible grind, and not worth the effort. Most people shouldnt care about the mounts as theyre nothing special. The actual drop ones look better imo, but I'm at 24 so may as well get the last one for a mount I guess >.>

I don't know whether there have been changes to the reputation rewards, some of the figures in recent comments are incorrect. Although I've been doing the paragon chest strategy since September I've only started tracking in detail since the new year. As pointed out in the comments you only get mechanica from the sub-cartel (Bilgewater, Venture Company, Blackwater Steamwheedle or Darkfuse) not from the Cartels of Undermine paragon box.

The three main weekly quests give 2000 rep, not 1000. They are account wide, so only worth doing on one character per week.

The side quests rotate between Zuldazar or Ringing Deeps. When it's Zuldazar you get two quests for Blackwater and two quests for Venture Company (200 rep each quest) when it's Ringing Deeps it's two quests each for Bilgewater and two for Steamwheedle. So only 400 rep for two cartels per week.

World quests are give 300 rep each. There are six quests on reset and another five or six on the weekend refresh of world quests. So a total of 3300 or 3600 rep per week.
Race world quests and pet battle world quests don't give rep.

The elite rares give 300 rep and a chance of mechanica. I've been tracking my rep for the last three weeks and I killed three candidate rares in week 1 (got a mechanica), four in week 2 (no mechanica) and two in week 3 (one mechanica). I only go for rares if they are up when I'm doing the main quests and world quests. I'll update with what rares give rep and which don't at some point.

Agree that looting trash cans do not seem to be a profitable trade off of time versus reward.

The special assignment quest gives 400 rep. Requires completion of three quests in undermine.

So far I'm getting around 11000 to 13000 rep per week by doing the three main quests (6000 rep) , C.H.E.T.T (500 rep) , world quests including Special Assignment (3700 to 4000 rep) plus a limited number of rares if I stumble across them. I agree the grind is fairly dreadful, but if you take a chilled approach you can get a paragon box a week giving 1-2 mechanica with a chance of mechanica from the rares with around an hour's effort split between two sessions. 38 needed for pets and 75 for mounts. I'm averaging two a week so far.

Since I was able to get my 2nd pet with the MM's, 3 weeks ago, things have changed. I have not gotten a single drop by doing at least 40 to 50 elites including the 4 related to the factions. I did Voltright/Boatwright Frankle yesterday and there were no MM's as drops at all.

I believe these have been removed, or things have changed to something else, but the faction thing is definitely not working, at least this week ... I'll try again a different one next week, but I am pretty sure that these have been removed ... in 3 weeks, I estimate I have done at least 1K named elites and the results have been negative.

Would like to know what trickery is being used to get the MM's. But I was disappointed to get Frankle to put up the quest, and I got nothing for it!

Yaaaaaah. With pre-patch, farming this became kinda harder and slower. In one hand, elite rares now are not one shot in 5 seconds and you have time to get them, but in other hand, they are now hard and slower to kill. Before 12.0 i easily beat them with ilvl 670-700 alts, but now, full mythic geared main beats them very slowly like 40-60 seconds solo. And I am do interested, will the price for mounts remain with current price or get reduced anyway,

Undermine was released on February 25, 2025 and it took me until today (February 19, 2026) to get enough mechanica from paragon chests to buy all three mounts.
So, playing only one character, it took me about a whole year of weekly quests and I'm still missing the pets.

Worst grind in WoW ever.

Update from September 16, 2026: We are now in patch 12.1 and I was finally able to also buy the last available pet. This whole grind took me 569 days (18 months). A total of 68 paragon chests were needed to get the 113 mechanica needed for all the mounts and pets. Some mechanica dropped off rares though I'd guess it were only about 5 to 10 in total, saving me like a month. Nothing else in this game ever took me this long. Still the worst grind in WoW.

Kind of a different perspective for anyone starting to collect those now, you will naturally get one paragon chest per week by doing the three big weeklies and your C.H.E.T.T. card. That way, you're farming two things at the same time without extra effort (three if you factor in market research from 3 piles a week).

With the abyssmal drop rate of these, and only being able to get 1-2 per renown chest (usually just one) if you want one of each pet, and each of the three mounts, you will have to exalt a cartel faction every week for a little more than two years. That means doing the full round of weeklys and associated map quests that provide the 300 rep. Every week. Otherwise, you can take your butt to the AH and buy the mounts for a million each.
Unless you are absolutely in love with Undermine, and want to spend your life there for the forseeable future, this is probably one you want to pass on. The drop rate for mechanica was higher upon release of this content, but the devs lowered it twice soon after. I haven't seen one from a trash can in months. This is Blizzard's way of making sure this content is not forgotten, and keeping you subbing. Aside from that, it's just more useless junk, just like the Goblins of Undermine are so into. As for me, I don't think I want to spend the next two to three years of my life digging though goblin trash.
