Pick up The Great Detective with Alyx. This quest asks you to speak with the famous Detective Athelton Jones, who's seated down by the Story Time stage.

Pick up The "Great" Detective, wherein he claims he has already solved the case of a disappearing fellow named Herrkrop, but we aren't convinced. We go talk to our friend Maru for clues, who says to use your Idol toy to find witnesses. Use the Idol to find members of Team Solid, a team near the Story Time stage. Note: This is a bit buggy—you can leave this portion once you have 48% progress into the quest. Talk with all 3 Team Solid members until you've exhausted their dialogue options.

Herrkrop is somewhere on a beach south of the Caverns of Time. Find his abandoned chair by a beach south of the Caverns of Time. In the chair, he'll have a message saying the sun is better "on the other side," so we must move north of the Caverns of Time, by Wavestrider Beach.

Going to the area mentioned in the chair, you will find plenty of suspicious NPCs, like an Undead, Scrapes, and a Human named Julia Hennings, as well as piles of sand to uncover with your Torch Toy, which will eventually lead to the corpse of Herrkrop. Talk to all NPCs, use your torch to uncover clues, and at the end, talk to Jones to accuse someone of murdering Herrkrop. In the camp, you will meet with Bonenose. He tells us about how they lost their cook and how they used to begin every voyage with his special lucky feast; and so, we're told to go to Booty Bay in Pirate Foods and Superstitions, to search for his original recipe. Pirate Camp coordinates

She says Cooktholomew's notes are a substitution cipher and asks you to return to Alyx in Tanaris.

Rosa gives you A Pirate Missive and the translated notes, with a list of ingredients. Bring these back to Bonenose at the Pirate Camp in Tanaris. List of Ingredients

Then follow twelve as the sun sets, and eight over his left shoulder. Maru tips this out as being the island of Hrothgar's Landing in Icecrown.

In Hrothgar's Landing, you will find the Lone Watcher, a single Tuskarr statue on the east portion of the coast. Using your Tricked-Out Thinking Cap there and going to (-12, 10), you will find a bunch of ice crystals. The Case of Misfortune

This side story does not start with a quest from Alyx or anything, but keen-eyed players might notice Darkmoon Cards scattered around the Celebration grounds. The easiest one to find is one right next to Alyx herself, behind the box she's standing right next to.

Looting any of said Darkmoon Cards and bringing them to Alyx will trigger a new dialogue, where she asks you to check with other guests in the event and see if anyone is looking for those cards. This will lead you to Alphonse Constant, an apprentice cartomancer standing to the right of the Story Time stage.

Alphonse will then give you Deck Dismay, asking you to look for his 10 missing Darkmoon Cards. You can track these down using your Idol of Ohn'ahra. They're scattered all around the Celebration area. Some of these cards can be pretty hard to see. Darkmoon Card locations

The clue to this crate leads us to the Rustmaul Dig Site by the Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles. This is solved by having someone dig them for you—summon any dog Battle Pet, such as the Perky Pug, at the location, and they will dig some Mysterious Bones for you.

With the Mysterious Bones in hand, go to the Weeping Bluffs is a subzone of Stormheim, with the remains of a crashed Alliance warship. To the northeast of the remains of the warship, you will find a grave on the top of a cliff. Use the Mysterious Bones to dig them back to their rightful spot, and you will find the Surprisingly Pristine Celebration Crate there.

This crate is located in Maldraxxus, on the top level of the Seat of the Primus, next to the portal that would take you back to the inner area.

Im not entirely sure why they needed to time-gate this.

Lmao voting down truth doesn't make it less true, folks.

Comment by Oanish

I suspect this achievement is also related to the event, and happens to be using the same icon as the felcycle.
Ratts is an NPC just sitting on one of the benches in front of Lorewalker Cho's stage, that just has a little blurb but is not currently interactable.

EDIT:

A recent achievement uncovered is Ratts' Revenge, which mentions a character that has shown up in Guest Relations and shares an icon with the Felcycle.

Well, at least they took it on board.

Comment by ragectl

First stage at the event in Tanaris, get the quest for Alyx, talk to Maru. Maru gives you an item to find items around the event location.

Use the idol to find the first clue.
Then look around for a second item that gives the third clue.
Which gives the clue to find the item to collect to give to Maru.

Completing the quest gives you a toy - Idol of Ohn'ahra

You then get a quest to go to Uldum.

Second quest gives you toy - Torch of Pyrreth to look around ruins in Tanaris

Edit: These are introduction quests. You complete these then you talk to Alyx again to ask to unlock items on the board next to her to find the crates

Comment by Dufferin

Part 1

Introduction

The journey begins with Alyx, who stands ready to send you on a new adventure. Alyx will point you in the direction of Maru, the Junior Secret Sleuth. When you speak to Maru, you will receive an idol — an important item that will help you uncover clues hidden throughout the area.

Step 1: Investigate the Outhouse

Your first mission is to investigate the area near the outhouse. Look carefully; you’ll discover two clues: a piece of red hair and an old poster stuck to the side. Make sure to examine both items thoroughly before heading back to Maru. He’s always willing to give more guidance once you’ve exhausted your current leads.

Step 2: Search Near the Storyteller Stage

Upon showing Maru what you’ve found, the two of you deduce together that you must be looking for someone with red hair, likely spotted near the Storyteller Stage. This narrows down your search significantly.

Travel to the Storyteller Stage, where you’ll notice a creature called Ratts. They are sitting conspicuously on the middle column, third row from the front. Make your way to Ratts and strike up a conversation. You may be surprised by what they have to share — Ratts tends to know more than they let on at first glance.

Step 3: Find the Strange Torch

After talking to Ratts, ask Maru for another hint. Maru will direct you to search behind the stage. Note that Maru actually means behind the Fashion Frenzy Stage, not the Storyteller Stage!

Once you are behind the Fashion Frenzy Stage, use the idol again and click on the strange torch to progress.

Rewards

After completing all of the steps, you can turn in the quest to receive 2 Bronze Tokens as your reward.

I also can't use the board...maybe because I handed over the crates before talking to Alyx?

Comment by fatespinner

So for those of us who didn't play much during Dragonflight.... how do we go about getting the Torch that is apparently required to complete this quest today now in TWW?

Comment by SocksAtWKI

You do need to speak with her before she will let you use the message board. It's not obvious like she has a quest for you, just speak to her. Hope that helps.

Comment by OutbackID

I have a feeling that one of the crates will be on Jaguero island, close to Booty Bay, also that Island where Dr. Boom used to live, maybe one of the secret hunters will check that out, best of luck!

Follow on now for The "great" detective
use the idol again and talk to the 3 characters it leads you to just near the story stage at: 63.80 51.09
keep talking to9 them and you will eventually get to 48%
Next you goto 66, 40
get your torch out and there is a sand dune near Nat Pagle and another near the people there
Athelton Jones gets off the boat, talk to him and then talk to all the NPC's there
Then go back to Jones saying you have solved it and then you have to select the person you think it is-Scrapes

CRATE #2 - You can only see it when you're dead. Mount up, fly high above it, and dismount so your fall kills you. Then walk back to your corpse area and click on the crate.

Comment by ajnapier

I'm not sure how to trigger the crate, or if it is available yet, but I am willing to bet there will be one at Donni Anthania's (Crazy Cat Lady) house, probably with Lord Underfoot. The comment Alyx makes about herding cats is stuck in my head.

Comment by Kaligor

So I found a clue on the board for rustmaul's end in shimmering flats down in the cave you get a water resistant receipt. I think its for someone at the darkmoon faire. Its says its signed by the purveyor of exotic goods.

Comment by flufsor

Crate 3 is sold by Vashti the wandering merchant.
This comes from the Sandy Ransom note, which hints at going to the place where Rustmaul once was in Thousand Needles at 65.82 48.63, there is an underwater cave.
The cave has a Water-Resistant Receipt item, that is signed by the purveyor of Exotic goods aka Vashti.

Comment by Grashka

For day 3 Tracking Quest:

1.) Get the quest and read the hints in the letter from Rexxar.
2.) Go to Borean Tundra to find Rexxar at 77, 46.
3.) Turn in quest and pick up The Trail's Gone Cold quest.
4.) Get Spirit's Whistle and go to the Marked Trail on the map (big red X, mine was at 85, 32).
5.) Use your Torch of Pyreth to find a Torn Diary, Page 7.
6.) Inside the hut there is another page: Torn Diary, Page 4.
7.) Use the Idol of Ohn'ahra, which directs you to a small pond. THEN IGNORE THE STUPID THING. Don't fish for 20 minutes like I did because the Distracting Wisps were distracting my Idol...
8.) Torn Diary, Page 6 is found at 88, 34.
9.) The Glimmering Pillar in Sholozar Basin (49, 36) brings you a Mounted Spyglass, picked up by your Idol. which should bring you to 40% completion. Make sure you are at the top of the pillar, not on the ground.
10.) The spyglass tells you it is aimed at the distant fortress. Head NE to Balargarde Fortress in Icecrown (Jotunheim area).
11.) Call Rexxar and he will mark a new spot for you. This brings you to 80%.
12.) Scapes can be found dead at 16, 58. Inspect his wounds and sense demons nearby.
13.) Call Rexxar again and tell him your theory: Shapeshifter killed Scapes. 100% completed!

Compiling information on the dirt-caked ransom note:

The note reads:

Don't- 4get the n1ghtmare place!
Your crate will be- 1n the last 5pot you Think of.

So taking the numbers out we get some coordinates:

If we use the dashes they would be -41 -15
If we ignore the dashes they would be 41 15

The nightmare place could refer to one of the Nightmare Dragon locations.
The word "Think" is probably suggesting we use the thinking cap.

I went first to Ysondre's spawn and put on the cap and calibrated it to 0, 0 and went to both -41 -15 and 41 15 and found nothing.
Will update when and if I find the crate.

Duskwood spawn done the same way and still nothing.
Hinterlands spawn done and nothing.
Ashenvale checked and nothing.

If anyone has any better ideas where "the nightmare place" might be please help out.

Comment by Sarthorius

@Neryssa (and Wowhead staff), please, for the sake of organization, use 'Tabs' to separate and keep these guides more organized haha.

It makes it better looking for you and specially for us readers on this side. You've already used them on other parts of the site, even some guides, where there can/will be long wall of texts, even with pictures on them. I think it would be better that way. For example, the Side questlines, each one on its own tab, that we can circle through, with the tabs themselves on the side menu.

Just a heads up, and keep up the good work ;)

Comment by meganerd18

One note will be by a bush a bit to the right of the hut.

This could be more clear, "a bit to the right of the hut" could be anywhere, because 'right of the hut' changes based on orientation.

Getseng tells you to go on the high mountain next to Maruukai, and near to the Children of Ohn'ahran there's a pile of toys and bones from Teerakai. Go to Teerakai and on top of one of the hills in the village there's a toybox, return the toy sword into the box and go hide into the bush. Then just follow the pupper to it's hidden toy-stash in a nearby cave.

Comment by Wymonju

im working on chapter 2s next quest: the final toy

1- sends u to maru to start toy thief quest
2- from the list of guesses choose the dog one
3- head to boralus and talk to the cat lady when u talked to kenshi
4- she talks about the tree from last quest, go there and use your idol to find a person who gives u a drawing
5- talk to maru about the drawing and she mentions maruukai (will update when further)
(continuing from 5)
6- talk to the innkeeper Erden in maruukai about the mischievious pup (erden is near where u found the toy in maruukai from the earleir quest, shes at 62, 35 if u need coords)
7- she sends you to getseng around one of maruukais entrances
8- getseng tells u to look fo the children of ohn'ahra under her watchful gaze, to find the pups hiding place (fly up the mountain behind maruukai to find ohnahra's nest and youll find the hideout with the idol)
9- in his hideout youll see teerakai burial bones, so head to teerakai
10- go to teerakai, and use the idol, it points to the top of the burial ground, place the toy and hide
11- when the pup arrives, follow it down to its stash and voila! maru's toy boat should be glowing, now just go turn it in

"Nola's Last Wish" proved to me once and for all that the Thinking Cap is absolutely inane in its current iteration. The starting point has to be very precise in order for coordinates to fit, which is impossible if you're a human. Just make it put a point on the map, Blizzard, this is a failure.

Comment by DefaultGamer1101

This will be The Case of an Old Soul as part of Assistant to the Assistant Guest Relations Manager achievement:
Quest: Nola's Last Wish

After speaking to Lashk head to Vul'dun and go to the Tortaka Refuge and speak with Elder Kuppaka and he will tell you to speak with some tribesman to the southeast.
This will lead you to 64.06, 26 where you will find Nola's Wishes. Then head to 24.25, 44.12 and head underwater where you will see a wedding. Use Nola's Pray item and wait for her spirit to show up and speak with her. Now return to Lashk outside the Caverns of Time.

*NOTE* All coordinates are using the default WoW coords on the map.

Crate #8,

The note mentions four locations. Equip the thinking cap atop Thunder Peak in Ashenvale and travel to the small moonwell at inside the tower at Raynewood Retreat to measure (81, -49). Take off the thinking cap and fly to the small moonwell at at Whisperwind Grove in Felwood. Re-equip the Thinking Cap and head northeast to Timbermaw Hold. Stop at at the mouth of the cave to record (122, 72).

Now drink the Potion of Truth from Thunder Peak and fly down to the Ruins of Feathermoon on Sardor Isle off the coast of Feralas. Starting from the end of the dock at on the northern shore of the island (the embarking text from the note is the clue here), reset the thinking cap once more to (0, 0), then head to (81, -49) or off the Forgotten Coast, reset the thinking cap once more and fly to (122, 72) or to find the tucked in a corner in Eldreth Row in the exterior of Dire Maul. (There must be time left on the buff or the crate will not be visible.)

TL;DR
Go to Ashenvale, Thunder Peak and drink the at the top. /way Ashenvale 47.9 38.4
Go to Feralas, Dire Maul and you'll find the tucked into a corner next to a pillar. (Potion of Truth buff must be active for the crate to show up.) /way Feralas 60.4 35.4

1) Go to Valley of the Watchers in Tanaris at approximately 37.74, 78.71. There are three things here: two coordinates (found in the right corner upon entry into the main room of the ruins) and the next clue. Use your bird. The next clue is next to the large chest in the room at approximately 37, 84 (inside the ruins). I forgot to note the exact coords.
2) Go to 47.56, 56.58, pick up the note near the rock.

4) Talk to Yennu in the Road Warrior in Gadgetzan

Corgnelius didn't work

Doing all these on a Mage alt saved me SO much time with the travel all around Azeroth. Plus, I could sit in dungeon queue while I did them so got some cheeky levelling done to boot! =D

I've never had a more frustrating experience than trying to follow this "guide". It's so all over the place with sometimes cryptic instructions and missing steps and sometimes extreme over-explaining and a lot of extra stuff you don't have to do.

Do yourself a favor and read the original Warcraft Secrets guide instead. It's way better.

For Crate #10, Magma Corgi does NOT count as a dog for some reason.

Comment by Uroshnor

For Celebration Crate #7 in Hyjal, the text states that the bear-tossing quest is for Avengers of Hyjal. It's not, it's for Guardians of Hyjal. And if you're not familiar with that quest, the quest giver is at /way #198 13.6 32.8 Keeper Taldros.

For the Feralas crate, taking a flightpath from Ashenvale to Feralas did not clear my Potion of Truth buff.

I just looted the Desolace crate while alive with the torch out. I did not have to die.

What is a "community creator"? Does that just mean one of the unemployed people who make videos online or stream or whatever?

Comment by DaemoniKira

" last wish was to see the future of the Tortollans."

I think there was a little more to it than that: weren't the two NPCs getting married both male Tortollans? Idk, maybe I was assuming, since it's hard to tell the genders of Tortollans based solely on how they look -- and I just realized I don't think they spoke (that, or perhaps I simply forgot to try to click on them!). I guess if it was a heterosexual marriage then I rescind my point. But I thought it was a gay marriage, which I then interpreted to be Nola's "last wish" -- which made it all the more wholesome and nice, and sad that she is gone. <3

Go ahead, downvote me to oblivion for talking about anything progressive in a video game... (it won't stop me either way)

Anyway, thanks for the guide! Very helpful!
