Mining Guide

[Wowhead only updates official guides, so information might not be up-to-date.]
Miners pursue valuable and useful ores, extracting them straight from the earth with their picks. Their familiarity with the land gives them a strong notion of where rich veins of gold, silver or even more precious metals can be found, and they retrieve and smelt these minerals for profit, or for use in metalworking of all types.
In order to find ore to mine, enable the
寻找矿物
option on your minimap, by right-clicking on the icon second from the top on the left hand side of the minimap and selecting
寻找矿物
Miners can spot mineral veins on their mini-map with the
寻找矿物
ability, and they can gather them quickly (by simply right-clicking on the vein). Miners require mining picks in order to break apart stones and retrieve valuable ores, and, in order to smelt (
采矿日志
) those ores into bars, they need to be near a forge (found in most cities, outside the city, you can use
热流铁砧
). As you continue to exercise your mining skills and smelt complex combinations of ores into alloys, your Mining skill will grow. High skill values are required to successfully retrieve the rarest minerals.
Having a

Until Patch 5.0.4, a mining pick was required to be in the player's inventory or equipped to mine nodes in-game. It is no longer required, but provides a passive bonus to your mining skill. Mining in guild counts towards the achievement
强力矿工
and as of patch 4.0.1, mining a node grants XP.
Legion Changes
guides
There are new ranks associated with mining Legion ore. These ranks allow mining specific ore nodes to trigger additional benefits, or allow users to mine more ore than usual.
There are no ore nuggets for low-skill players.
Mining nodes are now shared tap among players.
Mining is a complementary profession to
锻造
,
工程学
and
珠宝加工
. These professions rely specifically on ore and ore-derived materials.
Mining can be a profitable gathering profession because of the large sums utilized by the other primary professions. Jewelcrafters require five ore per prospect, blacksmiths can use dozens of bars for specific items, and engineers use large amounts of ore for the many consumable materials they can create.

To learn Mining in Legion, go out in the world and mine nodes. The first node you mine teach you Legion Mining. With Legion mining, your skill goes from 1-800 and you do not need to return to train higher ranks.
If you are re-learning Mining, you can pick up

Leveling Mining
There are leveling improvements for miners: you can now mine ore in the world without a required skill level. The amount of ore you'll get is determined by your skill level. We saw some of this earlier in Patch 5.3 when low level miners could mine nodes in Pandaria and get ore fragments.
The system has been expanded beyond Pandaria to cover all types of ore. If your skill level is too low, you will get a number of fragments instead.

Very helpful and well presented! The maps provided are a life-saver when grinding up your mining level.
Edit: I would also mention helpful addons like Gatherer and Gathermate that simplify finding mining nodes.

To farm saronite i reccomend wintergrasp. There is ton of saronite and titanium that respawn before you even do a single circle. Also you csn kill the ravenants that are there to get even more crystallized erth ,shadow and fire for your titansteel.

In my experience id say just mine in Pandaria at one of the best spots (if you are 90 that is)
I lvled my mining up this way on three characters and it worked really nice!

I wish the maps could be expanded for a better view of desired pathing.

When it comes to Iron and mithril i have a preference to the southern and northern halves of the EPL respectively good number of nodes and they respawn fast enough doing a few circles will get ya done in no time.

Great guide, for anyone having trouble seeing/understanding the paths: follow the mountainous/hilly regions on your map, that is where the paths will be leading you.

look don't go to wintergrasp this place is hell you wait for the pvp to end then you go and get your farming on, but wait you have only 10 m for the other batter it is not worth it when the battle starts no flying mounts and the nods are slow to come back just stick to the other places

As of Battle for Azeroth's pre-patch, every profession has their own expansion skill level. For example: Burning Crusade 1-75, Northrend 1-75, Draenor 1-100 etc. With that said, if you want to learn to smelt any of the expansion specific bars, you need to visit their expansion-related trainers (this is of course, if you have never had taken that profession ever before). I just thought I should post this because I was stuck trying to figure out how to smelt Cobalt in BfA when I hadn't had mining before.

What's the difference between yellow and silver on the map when I see it for ore?

For new Retail accounts it's worth noting that the change to each expansion means new players can easily skip (avoid) learning previous expansion profession skills, unless they want to do them for achievements.
As a player returning after about 15 years to start again in TWW, it was nice to see how they had improved the profession systems greatly.
There will also be newer tools to get for the new expansions that will likely continue to give region specific skill bonuses. These can be expensive to buy when first starting but are not needed at all to level up. They mainly help with getting some of the high end materials.
