As of launch, "Dropped by", "Contained in", "Mined from NPC" are all listed, but there is no entry for "Mined from". Just to clarify, there ARE nodes for this ore out in the world, you don't have to rely on mining NPC corpses and farming drops solely for this ore.
If you are with other Miner good news!:
Both can mine! but just for the record, you will have few seconds to do it.
If you wait like more than 3-5 seconds the other miner will fail. At least for now.
Is there any way to obtain this without being a miner?
Found the best way to farm Felslate, 350-400 per hour
If you intend to farm felslate by mining Felfire basilisk corpses in Suramar/Felsoul Hold, bear in mind that they tend to drop Ancient Mana. If you are at the Ancient Mana limit, you will not be able to loot the corpse completely, and therefore will not be able to corpse-mine it.
These can also be obtained by skinners. I skinned goats near bradensbrook and they sometimes dropped Oddly-Shaped-Stomach which contained 12 Felslate for me.
There really needs to be a Prospecting Tab like on the good old Fel Iron Ore with the %.
I struggle, sooo much, finding felslate. Spent about an hour last night going around various zones and managed to get a dozen, no more. Anyone else experiencing this, or is just bad luck, or is this the actual inventory? Sure, I found plenty of leystone, but for BS I need twice as much felslate than leystone.
An "interesting" place to farm Felslate is inside Stonedark Grotto in Highmountain. The cave entrance is at way 37.62, 25.36 - there aren't lots of nodes in here but they are all seams, both Felslate and Leystone. The respawn rate isn't great but if you're doing other things on your computer just park your miner in there and check back every 10-15 mins. You can also get the battle pet Zoom in here. There are no hostile mobs in there but some neutral merlocs you might aggro with aoe spells.
Looks like another blizzard nerf. NPC's don't drop hardly as much as they did a few weeks ago. Ive found 20 in an hour. I'll try more later, maybe its just bad RNGesus.
The drop rate from mining the basilisks in Felsoul Hold in Suramar has been severely nerfed. I used to get between 1-4 felslate from each basilisk with the chance of a special one spawning when you mine that gives 10-12 felslate after you kill it (those spawned fairly often). Now I'm mainly getting gray quality junk with only 1 or 2 felslate here and there and almost no special basilisks spawning. I used to be able to get around 100 felslate in about 30 mins. Tonight I've been working for over 2 hours and have just now reached the 100 mark. :(
Some prospecting info based on 880
(for price comparison, that was 12,500 gold for that ore on 19/03/2017)
So 1080 ore = 88 gems.
I just spent quite a bit of time trying to find felslate.. What I noticed:
Most of the core leveling zones are marginal - Not much Felslate, and the ore bodies are widely spread.
Suramar is a definite improvement, especially in the non-city part of the zone - Lots more spawns, even a few rich felslate. A few seams, but not many.
Broken Shore - Best so far, at least for me. Highest % of seams and rich ores, lots of fleslate. Gathered ~75 in about 30 mins.
YMMV, RNG rules, but Broken Shore was best for me.
Forget mining Felslate unless you are flying around doing something else. You need to kill and mine basilisks. Just North East of Deliverance Point on the Broken Shore is an area called Cinder Run:
There are nine Stoneblood Basilisks here that, with practice, I managed to pull, kill and mine in groups of three in around 90 seconds. Mining them yields Felslate, between 0-3 with a rough average of one. Over seven runs (ten and a half minutes) I mined 55 Felslate and some other stuff which can be vendored. This would more than 300 in an hour, or just under 40 minutes for a stack of 200.
The same is true of Empyrium in the green toxic lake west of Hope's Landing on the Antoran Wastes. There may be other, better basilisk clusters that I don't know about but both these locations are pretty effective. I am a ret Paladin, ilevel 928 so your experience may vary. I can fly on the broken shore but that is not necessary. Happy mining!
If you're looking to farm this post-Legion, a good spot is The Broken Shore, just east of Dalaran. You do not have to do any quests to be able to farm there and it's quite compact and the respawn is good. Flying is very beneficial.
There is a small island off the west coast where you can kill and mine Darkstone Basilisks as well.
The best way to farm Felslate(with mining).
Kill and mine all of the 12 Darkstone Basilisk on the small island at /way 32 31. in Broken Shore.
Then fly around the main island for 7-8 minutes and head towards /way 54 49. mining all nodes on the way including
Leystone Ore nodes as most of them share a spawn with Felslate. The Stoneblood Basilisks at /way 54 49. occasionally drop Felslate when mined and respawn really quickly, but don't spawn a Basilisk when mined like the Darkstone Basilisk as I explain in a minute, so I don't recommend staying exclusively in this area.
Then go back to the Darkstone Basilisk island at /way 32 31. the 12 Darkstone Basilisk should have respawned by then.
Though you may not think that the Darkstone Basilisk drop much Felslate when mining them (if any at all some of the time) the whole point is that you are effectively mining an extra 12 Felslate nodes which have a chance of spawning a Felslate Basilisk. These normally drop 8-20 Felslate in their loot as well as letting you mine them also, this action can then sometimes spawn another Felslate Basilisk. This happened 3 times in a row once for me yielding nearly 40 Felslate in a matter of seconds.
Be advised you need to fully loot all mobs before you can mine them, you can also mine them if another player has killed and fully looted them.
Also, keep an eye out for 2 world quests Felslate Basilisks a mining quest at /way 17 53. in Suramar, loads of
spawn here which can be mined even after the quest is completed, although these don't seem to spawn a Felslate Basilisk after mining. Also Stonebound Soldiers at /way 53 51. in Broken Shore. Hundreds of Stoneblood Basilisk spawn constantly, if they are fully looted you can mine them as long as the world quest is up.
EDIT - The Broken Shore method DOES still work and IMO is the best way, Occasionally there is a world quest there called Exterminating With Impunity that stops the Basilisks spawning but this is rarely there. Ignore the erroneous reply underneath.(##RESPBREAK##)290##DELIM##Rekkis##DELIM##
I think the best place to farm this is the island in NW corner of Broken Shore, around 31.4, 31.4. You can kill the Darkstone Basilisks there, and then mine the corpses for felslate. Also, the mineral nodes there seem to only spawn felslate deposits, so you can get a lot of felslate just by hanging out around there.
The best place I have found to farm Felslate, so far, is in Stormheim. Stormheim had more nodes than any of the surrounding areas I'd been searching. I tried to kill and mine basilisks, and didn't find it to be an effective method for me. I didn't think to keep track of how much I'd mined, but once I went to Stormheim, the Felslate nodes weren't as sparse as the other areas.
My character who is farming Felslate is on Steamwheedle-Cartel if that helps to know.
I think prospecting Carnelian is either a bug in the loot table on Blizzards end OR the data is incorrect on wowheads end.
