These are created from Copper Ore, which are very easy to mine in starting-level areas such as Elwynn Forest & Tirisfal Glades. (Keep in mind that night elf characters are not able to find copper until they journey to Darkshore, a level 11+ area)
Copper Bar's are used mainly by Engineers and Blacksmiths.
Copper Ore's smelt into Copper Bars, which are generally very easy to sell at high rates on the auction house. As such this is one of efficient ways to make money when first starting on a new server :)
The best place to mine copper in my opinion is the Gol'Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh. You can easily get 100 ores per hour if you are alone.
I have found these to be an easy source of income since the release of TBC and the introduction of Jewelcrafting since most people are buying the mats to power through it to cap it on there main characters.
I would suggest mining to any new player as a way to make money with the way most low level crafting materials are selling at the moment, I am sure this effect won't last much longer but I do hope most of you take the chance to cash in on it.
This is by far the easiest way to make money at this time. I have made well over 40g on horde and more than 100g on alliance by simply smelting and selling on auction. On Tanaris Copper bars tend to go from anywhere between 75s all the way up to 1g50s. So for any new character I would suggest get mining and find those Copper Viens and saturate that market!
A friend of mine sold 10 stacks for 1g85s EACH yesterday... People are getting so lazy it really pays off to keep a lowbie alt mining copper...
Edit: Nine months later it seems one stack of copper bars averages 5g on most servers. It seems it's mostly because most players have one or more lvl 70s farming dailies so gold is not an issue for them. Powerleveling professions on alts is allowed to cost atrocious amounts, and who am I to say otherwise. Of course I try to get as much gold as possible for my metal!
I feel sorry for actual beginners though, getting anywhere in this game must be hell if you're leveling your first character now. Lvl 40 green plate costs 35-60 on ah apiece now!
If you want to farm copper and sell it or level your mining, I would recommend this
mining guide with maps.
It really made it easy for me to mine copper fast.
A stack of these currently fetch to upwards of 4g on my server, Shu'halo. Definatley one of the best ways to make gold on a new character.
20x Copper Bars AH Buyout - 2gold 50 silver. EASY.
Okay, in order to smelt I need the forge skill...where is a forge? Can someone please give me a hint? I've been playing this game awhile, but had never gotten into the professions b/c I wanted to get the basics down first. Now I'm clueless!
i want to see where can i find copper bar for blacksmithing! ~~Ty ~~
going for about 4-5g per stack currently so its a good source of income when I find it I mine it and sell, not bad usually get boared and go to Dun Morogh and mine them.
Currently going for 8-9g per stack on the Blackhand realm.
they are going for 50g right now on Arthas. There should be like a pricing guide online for different servers for users to browse.
Check the price of copper ore before you smelt it all into bars. On several servers, the ore sells for more because people are trying to powerlevel their mining.

Selling on the Auction House
If you’ve got a good amount of them–specifically if you’ve got the Mining profession and have been crafting them without any other profession that find much use in the bars, this is your best bet. Even if you’ve got a small amount–some you find throughout the world, then set them on the Auction House.
Crafting via Professions
If you have an alternate profession which deals with using Copper Bars, then that’s probably how you’re going to want to use them. Keep in mind, though, you’ll more than likely be needing more than one material to craft equipment and other such items.
Test them out, figure out which crafted items sell for either the most or the fastest over the AH. Even with the expansion of Battle for Azeroth being here, lower level items still sell. Maybe not the highest price ever, but lower levels may still need them. Plus, some transmog pieces are made with Copper Bars.
