Here's my hint i'd like to share about this item:

- Early in the game if you're an herbalist and wish to make money quite rapidly try to gather as much as possible of this plant which by the way can only be found in Briathorn and Mageroyal plants and sell it in packages of 20 to the auction house. You'll see that it's worth a lot.

East of Loch Modan, you can go from north to south getting briarthorn/swiftthistle drops, then by the time you make your way around to go north again or so, it respawns in nearly the same places.

The south part of Silverpine Forest will net you a good 5-10 of each Briarthorn and Mageroyal. Briarthorn is a better source of Swiftthistle.

For any alchemists/herbalists (even lower level players with at least 60 alchemy skill) wishing to make some extra spending gold, making Swiftness Potion out of Swiftthistle is one good way to do this. Here's some helpful hints to get started:

1. Either find or buy the recipe for Swiftness Potion. I've never had a problem finding it, but if you already have sufficient funds and don't want to wait, you can put up a good amount of gold and get it off the AH. If you choose to farm for it, it's a world drop but seems to be found mainly in chests.

2. Go to either Westfall (alliance) or Silverpine Forest (horde) and watch your mini-map for any herbs that may come up. Mageroyal and Briarthorn plants both have a chance of containing Swiftthistle.

3. Once you've farmed a decent supply of both Briarthorn and Swiftthistle, make your Swiftness Potions and put them up on the AH. Unless inflation has your server by it's toes, the pots should sell for right around a gold a piece. Swiftness potions is highly sought after by all levels mainly for using in pvp.

Note that Swiftthistle does not appear on its own. It has a chance to appear when you gather Briarthorn or Mageroyal.

Swiftthistle is also used in Thistle Tea (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=7676) which is for rogues only -- pretty nice for PvP for a little extra burst dps or end-game raiding when you mess up your cycle.

Swiftness Potions don't sell so well on my server, but my herbalist/alchemist priest makes lots of money off of Swiftthistle. Moral of the story: This is a cash crop. :D

The best place 2 gather this item is on Bloodmyst Isle, cuz u can get it from Corrupted Treant but it's only 3%, but there's also briarthorn and mageroyal growing there so I think that's the best spot ^^

It's a very good herb , it's used in a lot of rogue related products and is a reagent for "elixir of minor agility" which can be used directly or used as a reagent for leatherworkers making "nimble leather gloves."

One of the best places to farm that I've noticed was probably Westfall. The price for Swiftthistle is quite high on AH. All herbs are worth a good amount on most servers now that Insription has came for WoTLK, they need herbs to mill and make inks.

Thistles contain millions of small hairs that break upon the slightest contact, the hairs enter the skin and inject the fluid.
The fluid is not toxic at all and infact purificates the blood, contains some important ingredients such as ;provitamine A, B-vitamines, vitamine C, chlorofyl, serotine, acetylcholine en histamine.

Anyways... people use it to stimulate their sexual lifes or just to get an adrenaline boost.
continuously rubbing the leaves over the skin should trigger a chemical reaction within the body so the body will start making adrenaline hence the use in swiftness potions or the food that restores energy for the rogues.

This can also be used to enhance your play in sports... you'll figure it out

I was casually farming over 2 days. Did not keep track of how long I spent farming.

115 Briarthorn
88 Mageroyal
42 Swiftthistle

Mathematically you get 1 swiftthistle for every 4 - 5 Briarthorn or Mageroyal.
Doesn't mean you can't collect 20+ without any swiftthistle dropping at all, just an overall average from the casual work that I did.

I tried barrens, too spread out, so I went over to Silverpine, and found a greater density. Less travel between nodes.

The best place to farm this now is at hillsbrad foothills. There is an abundance of mageroyal and briathorn in that area.

I find it interesting that it cannot be picked by on it's own, and that it can be used for two items that are level-less. The swiftness pots and the rogue tea. Swiftness pots have so many uses, which I'm sure you all know. Being a scribe with a brother who's an alchemist specializing in potions, I have rediculous amounts of these stacked and use them all the time.

Made an account just to post this... be thankful.

I can confirm that Hillsbrad Foothills is the best place as of now to farm these (Swiftthistle) They spawn up with both Mageroyal, and Briarthorn.

Within 15-20mins of random farming (no specific route was taken, flew around the entire map) NOTE: I have epic flying, not 310% though.
This is what I managed to grab.

Briarthorn X 86
Mageroyal X 79
Swiftthistle X 45

Not bad at all considering I was thinking they'd rarely drop. The respawn rate is amazingly fast, so i recommend the Gatherer addon, makes it easy to back track your steps.. even though you cant fly around Hillsbrad for more than 3 seconds without hitting a herb on your map regardless. :P

So when you pick Briarthorn or Mageroyal (Herbalism skill) you have a chance of also getting Swiftthistle. Since I wrote the above, the price of a stack of 20 Swiftthistle on the AH has soared to about 4g, or 20s per unit. Since this drops in low level areas like Westfall and Loch Modan, That means a level 15 character can easily make 10-20g in one day of harvesting. Crazy, and absolutely unbalanced.

almost every time i pick mageroyal, i get swiftthistle - on kel' thuzad, it sells about 5 for 2g so i can make 2g in a couple minutes with my 18 paladin

I just asked around for the locations, my lvl 60 mage is a herbalist so just get her to farm for my lowbie rogue, problem solved, am I hell paying 5g for 20 pieces on my server's AH! (Bloodhoof)

About tea:
This tea is extremly usfull for a rogue, its not hard to play without but its a big + to use it e.g u can kill clothwearers with 2-3 hits in no-time.

About price: Ofc its expensive. Its all about supply and demand, for example, with a high demand (almost every rogue that pvp needs it) and a low supply (its hard to find and it should be, it shouldnt drop all the time when you pick mageroylal etc). So one way to get prices down is to put a higher drop rate, then more herbers would be able to sell, the supply will expand and prices go down. easy as that.

There are two use of this herb:

1. Thistle tea for rogue

2. Run speed potion of WSG.

Hence the price = 1g/piece on greymane.

I dont really see why rogues need the tea so much (I am a rogue myself and I manage fine without it), I would rather use it for swiftness potion.

i made alot of money off this herb. not only is it used for rogues tea it's used alot in the lower level potions for battle grounds. I've been selling these for 10G/stack and they always sell.

Swiftthistle = 10G/stack
Kingsblood = 4G/stack
Briarthorn = 2G50S/stack

these always sell and are great for helping you at lower levels at getting the needed funds to purchase your mounts.

20 Swiftthistle = 20g on my server

Advice: Level a Hunter to 20 bc of the speed, lvl herbalism a bit and farm all the briarthorn / mageroyal you can find in the lowbie areas.

On Ursin, swiftthistle and fadeleaf go for anywhere from 5-15g a stack. The worse thing is we are low-pop and filled with farmers.

For horde, the best place to farm for lowbies are circles around mulgore and around mountains in the barrens.

first time posting on this site XD, anyway I'm a lvl 28 alliance rogue with skinning and leatherworking as professions and I was wondering, since everyone is saying swiftthistles cost so much, and that I don't have herbalism, is there any other way of obtaining these herbs?

i needed it for leatherworking(a potion is brewed out of this plant) so i whispered a herbalist and he said that if i get him swiftthistle he'll bre potion for free....anyway it looked like the man hard time finding it so all he wanted was a plant....long story short it can be often found in chests.... hope this helpes

Of course you can farm enough herbs to keep on hand to make potions, just takes time, ALOT of time. You need to check each herb out here on Thott and see where it occurs the most, then travel there and farm the heck out of it. Also, the higher level herbs tend to be close to mobs.

For Briarthorn (great thistle drop for me), look around trees. It is always found at the base of trees (in my experience). Fairly good drop rate in Westfall; I spent about 30 minutes farming for 8 swiftthistle.

Swiftthistle is WAY overpriced on the AH on Sagaras server right now. Good for my herbalism alt, bad for my rogue alt. I'm torn between selling what I farm and giving it to my rogue for tea. Considering the drop rate, maybe it's worth a little more than other low level herbs, but not the 32G I saw today for a stack of 20. That's just stupid. I'm not gonna pay that.

Who needs herbalists?
Who needs to pay extortionate AH prices?

The level 11-13 Corrupted Treants, on Bloodmyst Isle (at 49,73 which is southwest of Blood Watch, next to the road leading to Nazzivian), spawn fast and drop Swiftthistle.

I picked up 6 Swiftthistle in 20 minutes. I also picked up a couple of greens, a couple of whites, other herbs (peacebloom, silverleaf, earthroot, mageroyal, and briarthorn), and a few stacks of grays.

Thottbot (above) claims Corrupted Treants have a Swiftthistle drop rate of about 1%. There is no way in hell my level 21 rogue killed 600 Corrupted Treants in 20 minutes (that would be one kill every 2 seconds). I didn't count kills, but it felt like the Swiftthistle drop rate was more like 10% (that is about one kill every 20 seconds, and that doesn't account for my nose /pick time, etc). YMMV.

All you have to do is run around their tree and kill them as they spawn. A circa level 20 rogue should never need to stop killing. Your HP and Energy will recharge on the short run between them. You should not use stealth: It will just slow you down.

Don't bother farming the lone Treants wandering the rest of Bloodmyst Isle (the ones not around their tree). They don't spawn fast enough. The tree is distinguishable by the crystals growing out at the base of it. Those trees sort of look like they have a "fungus" of red crystals.

I've found the best area to farm swiftthistle/briarthorn/mageroyal in Silverpine is right around the sepulcher
1- you have a flight path right to it.
2- its very close to a graveyard (since the sepulcher is one) in case you screw up and get yourself in a pickle
3- There are a lot of the plants very close to it and all right across the road/ most you dont even need to worry about getting attacked while you pick your herbs
4- when your bags get full/ or you run out of empty vials you can run back across the road- down into the crypt and sell/buy what you need

If you look up Briarthorn on Allakhazam then it'll give you a map of all the best places to find it. you'll notice it's pretty much all over the place in the Barrens, so ya, good place to harvest some.

Good place for those in their 15's-20's is Darkshore near Aburdine. The woods are crawling with Mageroyal and Briarthorns aren't hard to find either. Plus free rides to Darnassus, which is good profiting.

Swiftthistle cannot be found on a vendor to my knowledge. The best place to find it is by picking briarthorn, it's a common thing that that herb drops. For horde, a good place to find briarthorn is in the barrens. It's scattered all over the place, but I found a good place to start looking is in the field of giants.

This would be the best herb and best selling thing ever... If i didnt have a "cooldown buying" i would buy about 345006 or something and sell on AH til someone caught on. But if your a herber get loads and sell on AH its for a rogue pot that gives 100 energy til lvl40 when it gives 2- per level= 40 energy at 70
