A rogue can herb a few of these in the Underbog without having to clear any mobs. Just stealth in and take what you can. :)

Picking these in Shadow labs got me 3 rings. two resistance rings and one "of Eagle" ring.

Pretty cool since you can't get gear from a mine or skinning something.

Any level 70 can reach 1 spawn of these in Slave Pens, in the first room. Its exact location varies, but there's always one.

You have to avoid 2 patrols of crab things, and if you're unlucky you'll have to clear 1 pack of a naga + slaves to reach the spawn, but this is easy since the slaves are non-elite and can be single-pulled, and although the naga is elite it's still low 60s and is easy once the slaves are cleared.

The Slave Pens can be farmed for Ancient Lichen by any level 70.

You can get 2-3 lichen nodes per reset, along with usually 1 node of Felweed, Ragveil, or Flame Cap.

The patrol paths are fairly simple and you can figure them out fairly quickly. You can go all the way from the first room, through the hallway, and into the next large room.

I can usually get ~20 lichen before I have used up my 5 instances and "have entered too many instances recently".

The ideal method of farming ancient lichen solo (and non-stealthable) is by herbalizing the various bog lords in Zangarmarsh. It's a multi-grind effort with them. They drop motes of life, various herbs and bog lord tendrils, which can be sold to those looking to gain Sporeggar rep quickly.

There are also around 4-5 nodes in a run of The Steamvaults, with around 3 of them in the same area Mekgineer Steamrigger is fought.

Ancient Lichen needs an Herbalism level of 340 to gather.

You can farm or improve skill -need to have 340 herbalism- using Slave Pens instance, there is always 1 Ancient Lichen and usually 1 Ragveil or rarely 1 Flame Cap in the 1st room, there are 2 patrols but you can avoid if you walk in the middle of the room, if the ragveil spawns near 1 elite kill it, he is easy for any 70, adds usually disappear if you kill the elite.

Level 70 Rogues can get of the herbalism nodes.

Follow the instructions above to get all of them except the 2, one by the first group of 4 on the right (usually a Ragveil), and the other by the Bogstroks (not always there).

To get the one by the 4, sap the Coilfang Scale-Healer , and evasion then kill the Coilfang Ray. Jump into the water and vanish. Then sap the closest naga and loot it fast.

To get the one by the Bogstroks, stealth to it, sap the Bogstrok that pats directly over it, and distract the others away. Loot and stealth

That's the way I got all of mine. I was in S1/2 gear with about 10k health when I did this.

Easily done in Mana Tombs as 80 hunter. You can get all 4 nodes there... =)
Had to get 15 lichens for elixir specialization quest.

You could pass few groups as non-stealther without feing death / invisibility...but groups near the Tavarok's room and behind not.

Well Bad news is you can only farm this in BC dungeon.

Good news is it have a 110% drop rate.

The rings do drop from this herb, I just got a Peridot Circle of Nature Resistance from a node in Underbog.

Requires Level 65
Use: Increases the player's maximum health by 1500 and defense rating by 30 for 120 minutes. You can only have the effect of one flask at a time. This effect persists though death.

I have two things so far that the Ancient lichen is used in.

1.) Elixir of Major Defense: adds 550 Armor for 1 hour.
Requires: 3 Ancient Lichen , 1 Terocone, and 1 Imbued Vile

2.) Elixir of Major Frost Power: adds +55 frost Dmg for 1 hour.
Requires: 2 Motes of Mana, 1 Ancient Lichen, and 1 Imbued Vile.

To gather Ancient Lichen you need Herbalism profession.
Ancient Lichen nodes can be found only in instances, namely Slave Pens, Underbog, Mana Tombs, Auchenai Crypts, Sethekk Halls, Shadow Labyrinth, and The Steamvault. Rarely, it can also be gathered from dead fungal giants, treants and ancients.
