This is one of the new mounts added in 3.1.

It is obtainable only by fishing in Northrend Pools and according to GM comments it has a very, very low drop rate.

It will be Normal Land mount speed(60% increase) while both on land and in water making it 10% faster than the Druid's Aquatic Form while swimming. Coupled with the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole you can swim with the fishes and hold your breath forever!

While it might be useful for getting around while fishing, you cannot fish while mounted on it. It appears to be more useful as a bank mount at this point and should be quite effective at blocking mailboxes or popular NPCs.

According to several players that have caught it and posted on El's Anglin, the swim speed increase is only 60%

This mount currently has the same model as the TCG riding turtle as well as the various Kalu'ak turtle riders

consider the fact your speed in water is normally reduced to 66%, a 130% increase is accurate, as it removes the speed decrease from swimming naturally, plus 60% speed increase, total 126, close enough.

Actually, I've been on the test realm to find that an epic ground mount does not have a speed increase while swimming. If it has any sort of speed increase at all, know that it was so small that I didn't notice a difference from normal swim speed.

Therefore, this mount is still perfectly useful in the water. It will move faster than any other mount or form in the water, spare a druid in aquatic form using the speed glyph. Woo, fishing!

And, of course, you can get underwater breath in a number of ways to match the druids'. I use a Deepdive Helmet . You could also get the Kalu'ak Fishing Pole. For that matter, just carry around a few potions.

The name of the achievement for this (Turtles all the way down) is, most surely, a reference to the lecture once given by a well known scientist, some say it was Bertrand Russel, on astronomy. When he described how the earth is a sphere and orbits around the sun and the sun around the center of the galaxy, a little old woman stood up and said "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise". The scientist then asked "What's the tortoise standing on?" and the woman replied "You're very clever, young man, very clever! But it's turtles all the way down!".

You do not need to be a high level fisherman to get this mount. I started with a fishing skill of 0 this afternoon and only fished Northrend pools. I got mostly junk, but got my turtle as I hit 143 fishing.

This mount ONLY drops from Schools of any kind of fish in Northrend. Don't bother wasting your time fishing in random bodies of water. If you aren't fishing in a school, you WILL not get this mount. I must of fished nearly 1000 fish, and then i decided to start fishing from school, and i got it probably 15 casts in.

Just a note, this is NOT a 60% mount on land. It moves at normal running speed on land, and gives you a 60% increase to your speed in the water.

Edit: The speed increase was actually buffed in 2016. Now it, along with every other water mount increases swim speed to a total of 135% normal speed, which is a much better improvement.

Swim speed without mount = 67% of running speed on land
Swim speed with any kind of water mount = 135% of running speed on land

Previous swim speed with turtle was 67% *1.6 = approx 107% of running speed (when it was 60% increase).

I've spent about three days fishing up this mount, finally got it on my 1350th cast (or so).

Here's my advice to prospective fishers:

1) Go to a region that has a low active fisher population, but a high concentration of easy-to-find fishing nodes. Recommendations include Crystalsong Forest (Glassfin Minnow schools), The Frozen Sea south of Borean Tundra (Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Moonglow Cuttlefish schools), and the lakes in Howling Fjord (Fangtooth Herring and the occasional Glacial Salmon schools). I hear other fishermen have good success in Sholazar Basin as well (Nettlefish schools).

1a) If you're trying to get the "One That Didn't Get Away" achievement, fish in Howling Fjord for a good shot at a Dark Herring. I caught *three* of these while fishing for this mount.

2) Make sure you're more or less alone. Some of these areas can support 1-2 other fishermen fishing from the same set of node spawns (Frozen Sea, Howling Fjord), whereas others can be ruined by having one other person around (Crystalsong).

3) Don't expect to make a *ton* of money doing this. You can make some, but you'll likely tank the market for your fish if you sell too many too fast.

4) Have lots of patience. As I said, it took me over a thousand casts to get my mount. Don't do it all in one sitting, space it out over a period of days. I spent a few hours each day, spaced out over the course of the day, for about 3 days to get my mount.

Got this mount today, given poor luck the drop came after about a fair amount of fish (well over the thousand mark, probably two).

It appears to have no "mount special" as of 18/4/09 Patch 3.1 (pre third restart) using mount special or the space bar seems to reset the animation cycle. Hopefully they give it one and it doesn't turn in to another hippogryph with no landing animation. Rider animation is also fixed and the mount will sway independent of the rider. (exhibited on a Tauren)

Patch 3.2 introduced a /mountspecial action to the mount.

The turtle will now jump and hide inside it's shell for a few seconds and then pop back out with another jump.

contrary to what some people are saying, the drop rate to the turtle can indeed have a very miserable drop rate. i have been farming literally over 30 hours ( i have no life). i have so far fished up 8 dark herrings, and like 4000+ fish, and no turtle as of yet. this can have a completely HORRIBLE drop rate. those people who get it in 2 casts are merely lucky. do NOT count on getting this in 200 casts like so many people are posting. this is a huge farm. you MIGHT get it fast, but dont count on it.

That's why the best way to fish for this mount is not to be 100% focused on getting it. I used it as an excuse to fish up a ton of food that I otherwise couldn't muster up the drive to do. Now my guild bank is fully stocked with AP, Spellpower, and Haste Rating food.

I've also got a ton of Black Jelly for myself.

You'll burn yourself out farming specifically for this mount. Set aside a couple hours here and there to farm up lots of foodstuffs for you and your guild/friends, and the time will go by a little bit faster since you won't be constantly disappointed when you fish up food... but rather, pleasantly surprised when you finally get your turtle!

It spoils the Sea Turtle to think of it as a grueling ordeal.

Picked this up tonight after fishing every night since Wednesday 22nd April (patch) on EU realms. To dispell some common misconceptions, the item is a blue drop and enters your backpack straight away like anything else you'd fish up. There is no prompt to bind on pickup, this is an urban myth. The Achievement "Turtles All The Way Down" is granted as soon as the item enters your bags.

Tried fishing in the Frozen Sea outside Borean Tundra for the first couple of nights in various pools of fish along the coast and got nothing. Moved on to Howling Fjord for the next few nights and did a few coastline circuits of pools there, still got nothing. Finally fished the sucker up out of a pool of Dragonfin Angelfish in the river splitting Dragonblight and Grizzly Hills. The winning pool was around 10, 55 but please remember that it is an RNG from fishing pools so don't expect to fish it up there just because I did.

It's such a beautiful looking mount, the giant eyes set it apart from the generic tigers and bears you see around Dalaran. Love it to bits!

We should all understand by now that this mount gives no land speed bonus, but there seem to be a lot of conflicting reports of just how fast this turtle is in the water. I got one on live and have tested it against aquatic form. All of these numbers have been confirmed through use of the speed readout on the map of the addon Carbonite.

All math considers normal running speed to be 100%.

In the water this mount increases swim speed by 60%. Normal swim speed is approximately 66.66% (two thirds) of normal run speed.
66.66 (normal swim speed) * 1.6 (speed multiplier from the turtle) = 106.656
What this means is that in the water the turtle will move at about 107% of normal running speed.

Now let's look at the boost from a druid's Aquatic Form. Unglyphed aquatic form increases swim speed by 50%.
66.66 * 1.5 = 99.99
So a druid in aquatic form is moving at about 100% of normal run speed.
With the Glyph of Aquatic Form the form's swim speed bonus increases to 100%.
66.66 * 2 = 133.32
So druids with this glyph swim at 133% of normal running speed.

In the end this very rare mount offers a very small advantage over unglyphed aquatic form and is a rather large downgrade from glyphed aquatic form.

You'll get the achievement as soon as you "fish up" the item, not after you click on it to learn the spell. Its nice that the achievement banner comes up because after fishing for a long amount of time, I was worried that it would drop into my bag and I wouldn't notice. Don't worry, when you get it, you can't miss it!

If you're in a raiding guild progressing in Ulduar (or any other place for that matter) I can very much recommend fishing only Glacial Salmon, Nettlefish and Musselback Sculpin while grinding this cute guy. So far I've gotten fish sufficient to about 250 Fish Feasts, and I'm suspecting there will be a lot more to come before I finally get to ride my future favorite mount in Dalaran.

Bottom line: As the droprate is very low, and most people will need some "X"k casts to catch a turtle, you might aswell do something good for your guildmates along the way by focusing on these three kinds of fish.

My personal 5 cents for catching this mount and rare catches in general:

Get Bejeweled addon (or maybe even Peggle), and play it while you fish! Just set your Ambience and Music volume down, and Effects volume up and you'll hear when you catch something (if no one else is fishing near you). Makes fishing a lot more painless. :) Listening to music while fishing makes it also more comfortable.

Just remember, all you can do is keep fishing... You will catch it eventually. ;)

to be honest it's changed my life. before i was a loner, but only two days after riding this mount around dalaran (cuz that's its only worth) girls started climbing all over me and i won the powerball. great mount.

I've managed to catch four of these so far (on four different toons) and am now working on my fifth. All were caught while leveling fishing from around 250.

The first one took about 1200 casts; the second took 5 (!); the third took about 850, and the fourth took 1300. The fifth is going slowly: over 2000 casts and counting.

In my opinion, the most plentiful source of fishing pools in which to catch one of these mounts is the Moonglow Cuttlefish and Deep Sea Monsterbelly pools in the Frozen Sea south of Unu'pe. I generally see 5-6 pools when I arrive, and by the time I've fished them out 3 to 4 more have appeared.

Apart from days when Monsterbelly Appetite is the Dalaran fishing daily, the area is completely deserted. There are no mobs in the water and the risk of ganking is low to nil, so even a lower-level character can fish in peace.

The mount is a beaut, practical in certain situations, and relatively rare (I've only seen one other turtle so far on my realm, although naturally these mounts don't see much use in everyday play).

My one disappointment is that you can't fish from it. Maybe that gross oversight will be remedied sometime in the future. :)

I once was swimming on my honeymoon in Barbados and got attacked by a sea turtle. For this I will never obtain this mount. Sea turtles are truly evil creatures.

Ive noticed that with my particle and other graphics settings down, it is really difficult to see the fish pools. That being said, if you are having trouble seeing right where the pools are, try turning up your particle settings to max, and turn down other things if needed temporarily. Helps a ton!

Otherwise, been trying my luck with this guy for a cumulitive 6-8 hours now. Atm im flying back and forth between Moa'ki Harbor and the little lake just north of it. I dont really reccommend this area, there are not enough pools to keep going but I needed this type of fish.

I would however reccommend the big lake in Scholazar Basin in the northwestern corner. There are 5-6 pools in that lake, only annoying part is sometimes dodging the hydras, but I could loop nonstop for a solid few hours without seeing a single other player. (I think most people hang out at the River's Heart lake)

Edit: this post was written ~8 years ago. Since then, Cataclysm hit Azeroth and pandas are brewing beer on every continent. On top of that, the World of Warcraft's timelime was briefly rewritten and now the Legion is on our doorsteps again.
But the basics are still the same; you always ALWAYS fish in a school of fish to catch the Sea Turtle. Just be sure it's in areas made available in Wrath of the Lich King and beyond.

**On a sidenote, you can now farm for the Darkmoon Darkwater Skate. But the turtle is better since you won't get dismounted if you press Spacebar at the water surface. Same speed aswell**

Today I was finally rewarded for my persistence. I wish I could say that I got my Sea Turtle in my very first school of fish or somehing similar bullsh*t, but I can't.

Just a quick roundup since people are still confused:
1. Patch 3.3 introduced; no junk from northrend pools, you can now fish any pool successfully with skill 1.
2. Although you think you look absolutely fabu' astonishing in your fishing outfit (Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole etc) there is no need for +fishing skills anymore, hence Patch 3.3
3. Ofcourse, if you do fancy the looks, by all means wear them.
4. There is no way that you can increase the drop chance of the turtle, it will always remain the same. You are not guaranteed a drop after a fixed number of catches, the RNG doesn't work that way - basicly each throw with your fishing line is your first, if you want to look at it that way.
5. The mount is still in the game.
6. YES! really, it actually still is in the game, you're just unlucky or impatient.
7. They removed the BoP warning a couple of patches ago, but its still very important to always have free bag slots, trust me. You will loose the last bit of sanity if you somehow accidently move out of range from loot window, are getting ganked or you close loot window by mistake while nervously trying to make a free bag slot.
8. Disregard any comments that claims they caught the turtle after 50 casts or in school number 4. It can happend for you, sure, but don't count on it.
9. Crusader Aura does not work with this mount.

What I do want to tell you is how I prepared myself for getting this very unique mount.
I choose 3 places to fish:

Musselback Sculpins from Lake Kum'uya

Deep Sea monsterbellys/Moonglow cuttlefish from Frozen Pools

Nettlefish from Sholozar Basin

Christmas vacation is long this year, so I figured I'd hit it.
As a standard rule I always assume that I have the worst possible starting point, so I disregarded every yarn from people that claim they caught a turtle in their third school of fish, caught it after 20 min or "lol didn't know it even existed when I fished for the first time!" or some similar sh*t.
Don't get me wrong, it happends, but even if all the posters that claims "one time hit wonders" on these pages are not lying, its still an incredible small amount of people out of nearly 12 million WoW players.

Basicly, I knew this was going to take alot of hours so why not optimize my time?
I choose the above places since Musselback Sculpins and Nettlefish are ingredients for Fish Feasts. I didn't make the feasts, I just sold the fishes and made quite an amount of gold from it.
The Deep Sea Monsterbellys are ingredients for Gigantic Feast but thats not the reason I choose this place since they practically don't sell on AH, atleast not on my server. I choose this place because from time to time I experienced other people fishing at Lake Kum'uya and Sholozar Basin so I moved to Frozen Pools because schools of fish are abundant here, basicly there are always schools ready to grab.

I began fishing the 18th december and what I basicly did was to "reserve" ingame time for fishing. I always made sure to have some kind of beverage in reach, favorite music and an alive guild chat, although you also have to watch your bobber, dont forget :D
Some days I fished 1 hour, another day 4 hours and again another day I fished for 3 hours. These hours were either straight or divided during the day; 30 min here, 50 min there etc.
Some days I had no problems fishing for 2 hours straight, but other days I welcomed breaks where I either did som irl stuff and came back after some time or simply did a random heroic instance with guildies. The new LFG tool is awsome because when you are done you get ported back at your fishing spot, perfect.

Today, 26th december, I started at Lake Kum'uya and had been fishing for ~20 min when 2 other players came. I was hoping they would bugger off quickly but they kept fishing so I used Blan B which was Frozen Pools.
I made my usual route 2 times among the icebergs when I settled down on a Moonglow cuttlefish school of fish and behold! - landed the Sea Turtle

Basicly I dont bring up any new facts, I just wanted to tell you my approach for farming the turtle.
The comments that suggest you kind of "romantice" it and leave behind the desire of the turtle while throwing your line for the 3956th time and merely see it as a joyfull way of raising your fishing skill, getting mats for Fish Feasts, earning gold, see the world and think of the turtle as a bonus, is either heavily sedated on anti-depressive drugs or, in my opinion, embellishing their own tedious farm story which only leads to false expectations.

As you can see my journey for the turtle was all but an adventure of fortune, I worked hard for that little bugger and you should expect to do so too.
Its all about luck and in my opinion you have to force your luck and fish continuously. But remember Blizzard's own words; take everything with moderation - even WoW ;-)

Not sure if it was like this before but I logged on this morning and mounted up, it seems she makes a little squeak and pop when you /mountspecial her!

May have been there all along but I never noticed it until just now :)

edit: It seems with 3.3.3 they did add a sound effect to her special 'move'. Now why couldn't they replace the mount up sound from a kodo to an actual turtle :(

If you're after the Sea Turtle I suggest you do One That Didn't Get Away on the same time, the Sea Turtles chanse to be caught is the same in any Northrend pool, so I suggest you go fish in Fangtooth Herring schools in Howling Fjord. It makes the fishing less boring when you know you have the chanse of catching two rares (Dark Herring and Sea Turtle).

This is how caught my Sea Turtle, I was actually only after the Dark Herring for the meta-achievement as the Sea Turtle is not needed. But.. who says no to a awesome ridable turtle that can hide inside its' shell?

Even if you don't want the title, I suggest you fish in Fangtooth Herring schools if you ever change your mind.

From what I have tested the Sea Turtle is NOT as fast as the Abyssal Seahorse.

Tested using Speed Macro:

Tested with Master Riding in the Abyssal Depths.

Can the turtle be caught from Pool of Fire?

I'll be testing this myself, will report back if I get it to drop

EDIT: About 200 Volatile Fire caught from Pools of Fire, no turtle yet. I'll report later when I get some more Volatiles and maybe a turtle ;)
EDIT2: 300+ Volatile Fires caught, no turtle yet.
EDIT3: About 400 Volatile Fires caught, nothing yet.. apart from the Volatile Fire of course :)

got mine in Howling fjord, while fishing for the dark herring...
... never got the dark herring, but fished up the turtle instead! so i gave up on the herring.

best advice, dont fish for the turtle, fish for something else.
the dark herring, Cata fish to cook for guildies, ect. or glassfin minnows to make water walking pots. fish for any other reason than for the turtle.

Just a little adv: if you make your way up to Vermillion in Twilight Highlands to try for a bit, I found a nifty little hiding spot! in the south east pool, next to the little bitty one (the pool is pinned on the map); anyways, for one, if you stand at the edge of the bank, to the left in front pf a little hill, you will never aggro even when the bad guys all start running around...buuuut, the tree in that pool is hollowed out if you walk around it... just stand in the hollow spot and you'll never be spotted. there is tall grass, but its easy to find your bobber. happy hunting... been fishing at the pools and lakes all around a couple hours now, about 30 skill-up points and nothing yet :( im getting impatient! BLAH!

Got this during the second week of the new darkmoon fair. I just ran loops around the island. On the first day of official farming I got this mount in almost exactly three hours. Took 115 casts. (180 if you count the week I was fishing there but didn’t know the mount dropped.) I would say this is a great farming spot. All the pools of wreckage only have 1-2 items in them but they spawn all around the island and every time you empty one out a new one will spawn.

Pros:
fast respawn and lots of pools. I was looting 10-15 crates every ten min depending on my luck (more wreckage pools= more chances of looting the mount)

no mobs that will attack you

any lvl can do this

you don’t need lk or cata (I only have Burning Crusade at the moment.)

there are tons of cata profession items, potions, flasks and random level foodstuff in the crates that you can use or sell. I made 3k in about an hour or so of fishing the first time I did it and that was after donating the flasks and food to my guild bank. So its a nice safe money maker for low lvls and a nice lil bonus to make the farm rewarding no matter what.

Both the pools and open water also have a chance to drop a pet sea pony in a bubble that you can only get at the fair.

cons:
the fair is a once a month thing and only lasts a week.

only 1-2 items per node

no flying mounts allowed in the zone. have to use 100%

expect 1-5 other players to be farming these for the cata items. Some of them will probably try and ninja a pool you already cast into but if you just politely ask them not to and let them know you won’t try and ninja the pools they cast into they usually stop.

Quick reminder: you should only need lvl one fishing and a fishing pole to fish in any water in darkmoon and no matter your fishing level as long as your cast lands in a pool you are going to receive pool associated loot.

Before I say anything, please note that this WILL take you a long time to get unless you're insanely lucky (like a lot of previous commenters were).

There is no easy spot to fish for this mount.
There is no fishing pool that has a higher drop rate than anywhere else; all eligible fishing pools have the same drop rate.

The only thing to do is fish in pools as much as you can. Do whatever works best for you, as you're gonna want to get comfortable when you're fishing for hours and hours. Every time you reel something in from a pool, you have the same chance at getting the Sea Turtle, so you're just gonna have to keep at it.

Given these facts, the only way to "speed up" (so to speak) the process is to find a place that has pools very close together that respawn quickly.

Personally, I found that Bittertide Lake in Sholazar Basin (the northwestern lake) makes a very, very nice place to get a constant stream of pools coming your way. If you keep making circles around the lake, the pools will respawn by the time you make a full circle, and you'll never be more than a few seconds in the air (or on the ground) without finding the next pool again. Please keep in mind that, given this convenience, you will STILL be fishing for hours and hours, depending on your luck.

You may want to fish elsewhere, though.
Going for schools of Fangtooth Herring in Howling Fjord will have you shooting two birds with one stone, as you have a chance to fish up a Dark Herring, which meets criteria for One That Didn't Get Away, or you may want to fish in some Cataclysm pools either for more useful fish or the chance at fishing Volatiles (which you'll get a lot of while trying for this mount).

Either way you go, it's all about making sure you're going to be comfortable, because you're going to be at it a looong time.

All that said, I got this sucker earlier this morning and it is one incredibly rewarding feeling. :)

I got the mount after about 500 casts. Here's my advice to those looking to catch this mount:

1) Be patient, it will take time. I found that it helped to stick to a certain number of casts per day and then move on to something else. I did at least 50 a day, but never did more than 100 a day.

2) If you haven't gotten "One That Didn't Get Away" then start with the Fangtooth Herring Schools in Howling Fjord. There are a lot of them and you catch the dark herring while you look for the turtle.

3) If you have gotten "One That Didn't Get Away" or don't care about it then try the lake in Borean Tundra west of where you get the D.E.H.T.A. quests. There are multiple pools there that spawn pretty quickly.

4) Don't sell every fish you catch on the auction house. You'll flood the market and probably won't be able to sell them all. If you really want to sell them all on the auction house then sell them a few at a time.

5) Don't expect to get rich quick doing this, and don't expect to get the mount right away, the drop rate is less than 1%

6) You do NOT need lures or a lot of equipment that increases your fishing. I only had a fishing rod that gave me +5.

7) Leave the sound effects on (turn off all other sound) so you can hear when you have a fish and then read a book or put on a movie or something while you fish. This will make it much less tedious.

I can in fact confirm that this can be caught at the Darkmoon Fair! Today, I was fishing with an alt, and was going for the shipwreck debris. Much to my surprise, it came up with a crate in the loot window! I had always figured that if I ever did catch one, it would be fishing nodes in Northrend or something. I spent quite a bit of time with my main trying to catch one, but instead got one quickly with an alt, and a half hour after I somehow caught the sea pony companion! So, the time to get one can vary, as others have pointed out, and it's possible to get one from the shipwreck debris of Darkmoon. Good luck and hopefully you get it!

i was fishing in grizzly hills for about 3 hours got my fishing to 148 i got the Dark Herring then i get back on WoW and tell my brother about it and we go over to crystal song and we find a pond with lots of schools he casts his pole in maybe 4 times and pulls out the Sea Turtle i was pretty jealous considering how rare it is then about 15 mins later i fished up mine and we raced turtles my advice is to just keep fishing me and my brother got really lucky on it and i hope you all get the mount eventually

Farm for the achievement Like Shooting Fish in a Barrel and try not to focus too much on getting the mount. The drop rate of 0,03% as stated in Wowhead will turn you away. Some people claimed 10 minutes fishing, but don't rely on it. Focus on the mission. I plan on doing the same on extremely boring days.

As most fisherman do, grab your favorite snacks, your favorite beverage, and prepare to sit by the shore for hours. Enjoy the trip. Have fun. Leave the wristwatch behind, it will be meaningless .

I just fished the turtle up today in Hyjal, Shrine of the Goldrinn, coordinates 29:33. I came upon a shallow pool and did a few quests around it, then noticed a new fishing node. No other players were around to have fished it before me/respawn, so it just oddly appeared. The node was not there when I first arrived. I was not using a bobber of any kind.

Just got this baby last night in Twighlight Highlands. Why not make some gold while looking for the turtle as the Highland Guppy & Deepsea Sagefish currently sell for the most on my server.

Over the past week I was just a bit shy of 2000x casts entirely in this area and the mount actually dropped out of a Highland Guppy node around 8pm server time on a Sunday.

I wanted this mount so I trained for fishing and started leveling in the zones where I could get this mount. Figured I could knock out fishing leveling this way and hopefully get a mount. All day I spent fishing, no mount. Did get a sea pony though.

Girlfriend gets home and hears about my frustration with no turtle, she trains fishing and is all "Okay, I feel lucky!"

Within the first 10 pools and tada, A Sea Turtle.

So yup, luck! Don't kill yourself. Just go randomly.

So It does seem to be slightly affected by Crusader Aura on land.

I guess I'm the guy who makes everything average out, cause after about 12,000 casts, I still dont have one! at a drop rate of .03 it is 1 in about 3,500, so for all you jerkwads who caught one on your 50'th cast that means some other person has to make an extra 3,450 casts to get it, well, obviously Blizz has decided I get to be the lucky shmuck

I fished this bad boy up in Twilight Highlands 2 days ago after months and months of consistant fishing. I was told I would have a better cahnace of fishing him up in Uldum so that is where I began my quest. After a while I dicided that farming mats for the Seafood Magnifique (Fathom Eel, Lavascale Catfish & Highland Guppy) would be benificial to do alongside just fishing with the hopes of the mount dropping. While Uldum is a great place to fish eels aHnd lavascales you must fish the guppies up in TH. low and behold after gathering my daily 100 eels and lavascales, I went to Twilight highlands and bam, there he popped! Good luck to all, who venture to catch this guy. The gold you make along the way makes this a truely worthy achieve to pursue!

For those who are wondering, the difference between the drop rate in Grizzly Hills is significantly larger (p<.005) that the rest. While this could be a coincidence, GH seems like your best bet if you're only trying to farm this/level up. Obviously, if you want money too, you should fish in Cata zones and sell the fish.

Believe it or not, I caught this mount on Darkmoon Island. Didn't put much time to farming, it must have just been luck. I spent about an hour to two a day fishing up the wreckage around the island. The drops out of the crates are very good money makers as well!

It could just be luck but Darkmoon Island looks like a good spot for this, I got the turtle on 2 diff. toons during this faire alone. Either way the contents of those chests are worth a ton of gold so if you're farming this mount and don't want to waste your time if it doesn't drop, DMF is the way to go.

I just got this mount today. I also pieced together something others might find useful, but first let me tell you how i got the mount. I spent a total of 8 days fishing, 6-8 hours a day, in northrend, uldum, twilight highlands and deepholm. About 5 days in i read on a post somewhere and if you track the quest, it may help farm it out, so i did. It did'nt seem to help. At the same time i was farming the turtle, the guild i was in was also working on the seafood magnifique achievement, the guildmaster requested everyone to go fishing in pools, great i thought..two birds with one stone. Earlier today, me and the guildmaster had an arguement, i left the guild..went fishing and 3 pools later, got the mount.
So here's my theory. Guild achievements requiring fish, take priority, will make you catch fish. Personal achievements come second in the database as far as priority is concerned. So if you're in a guild that still needs you to catch fish, you're gonna be catching fish. I could be wrong, however that's the way it happened with me.

Finally got her after 18 hours of fishing. ( ~ 3-4k fish )

And all I can say is that I HIGHLY recommend "The Frozen Sea"
(It's about there http://www.wowhead.com/maps?data=3537:825580 )

The times you need to move between the schools is VERY low ( 5 - at max. 20 seconds )
and you'll always have around 5-6 schools.
Also you'll never be attacked by anything and you'll be alone, I promise! So really NOTHING will disturb you while farming this beauty.

I finally did it! I'm so, so happy! After trying off and on, off and on for most of Wrath AND Cata, and finally most recently, fishing every single pool I pass by, I have finally caught my little Sea Turtle!

I was so excited. I was fishing off of Scalawag Island while looking for one of the last few rares I need for Frostbitten, drop my line in one of the Manta Ray pools, pull up something blue...No....No, that can't be right, no way....Loot and DING! Sure enough, it was my Sea Turtle! I almost jumped out of my chair, haha. And between what Rarity has counted and as far as I can guess, it only took me about 3-5k casts. Wow, so glad it didn't take me into the 10k+ range. xD I would've cried. Now to just get my bug mount and sprite darter....

WOOT! I finallllly got my turtle! Crystalsong Forrest in a Glassfin Minnow school.
I have been fishing pools in Twilight Highlands, Uldum and Borean Tundra every night, 3-4 hrs. a night for 9 days now.
Moved on to Crystalsong Forrest this morning to get mats for Elixir of Water Walking and YAY a sea turtle.

Total casts of all locations between 2500 - 3200.
Cords: 33.7, 47.1
Realm: Blackrock.
6:51am server time.

So I decided this afternoon that I was going to set out to get this cute little devil. I very rarely fish and had taken a fairly long break from fishing altogether. I was sitting at 225ish when I started today at around 3pm. I began fishing for the turtle in Grizzly Hills and after about an hour I decided to head to Uldum. After 100 eels, I headed to Tol Barad. After another 100 fish there, I went to Twilight Highlands. Around 100 fish into TH at around 9pm, I got it <3 Ended with 435 fishing. I was using weather beaten fishing hat, the lure that it puts on your fishing pole, and just a plain vendor stat-less fishing rod.

I am not usually blessed by the RNG but last night I had a double whammy of luck.

I am levelling my fishing and I am at about 350. I did the Stormwind daily and in the bag was the Sandcrawler pet....excellent...

My lucky evening continued as I fished in Uldum, the water near the city where the dam is and after about half an hour I got my sea turtle. Just goes to show how random it is, I have only been concentrating on my fishing for a week, an hour or so a night....

Farmed for ages in Uldum as it was said to be the best. Got enough food for tanking raids for till Panda land hits! but no mount :( a few days later I was doing rep with Oracles again and decided to fish in any random pool (nettlefish) that popped up. Got it in my 3rd pool 2nd cast.

It is total RNG, I guess this kinda makes up of 50 raggy kills and no hammer :S This guy is totally worth every second spent fishing!

I skilled up fishing, trying to get this mount. Was fishing skill lvl 1, skilled all the way up to 525. IN 1 DAY. I was unlucky. I caught around 10.000 fishes before I got it.
The moral in this is; - Never give up. You'll always get what ur trying to get, It'll just take some time, and the more time you spend trying to get it. The happier you'll be when you get it!

I just got this, in a Blackbelly Mudfish pool in Uldum. I don't want to say how many fish I caught and how much time I spent, but what I did with my time was listening to music, and something else. What I did was: After every catch I made, I made a /roll 1-100, and picked a favorite number (mine was 8). I wanted to see how many times I could get the number 8 up until I got the turtle.

The only reason I'm saying this is because it certainly made it a lot more fun for myself. I hope you will get it fast!

OK, I fished for hours on my main to get it. And got it on my alt while fishing a node of shipwreck debris on Darkmoon Isle.

Interesting fact I: My fishing skill was an astonishing 20. No more, no less.

Interesting fact II: While being a 74 Druid, in an act of sheir bloodlust, killed a few lvl 20 allies who were competing me on the nodes. Where I normally give them leniancy, I think it's Blizz way of telling me that being cruel to lowbies can be rewarding...

The little hunter nodded off in the warm sunshine, awakening with a jerk when her fishing rod suddenly shook in her hands. With the skill born of much practice, she set the hook and landed her catch - this time, a slippery Fathom Eel - and added it to the bag of fish and eels next to her. It would be eel stew for dinner tonight, and she thought with a sinking heart that eel would be present in some form for the next several meals. Sighing, she cast out her line again, and once more tried not to doze.

The little hunter had been fishing for a small stretch every day for weeks. Now, about 2000 casts later, she was skilled enough that it was becoming a problem to deal with all the seafood. She was fishing solely from pools - the main types of fish she caught were Fathom eels from the Uldum coasts, Highland Guppies from the river and lakes in Twilight Highlands, and Albino Cavefish from the icy waters in the cavernous depths of Deepholm. Sure, there were the auction halls, but that meant wheedling the auctioneers into accepting baskets of fish and proving that they were fresh caught that day. Especially the Silvermoon City auctioneers. Ithillan in particular was quite fussy. “So much fish!” he’d complain. “Why do you always bring us so much fish to sell? You are out of control, hunter!”

That left giving fish to her spirit cat, guildmates, and even strangers, but there was only so much they could eat, and so the little hunter was left with perplexing and ever-increasing piles of fish. She was quickly gaining an unsettling reputation as the “fish elf,” the one who always asking people in slightly desperate tones if they wanted any fish. She feared she was starting to smell permanently of fish, too, no matter how many baths she took, and her dreams were filled with bobbers, lures, and tangled fishing lines. Every night when she showed up to an inn with her bags stuffed with reeking seafood, innkeepers looked askance at her. So far, none had actually turned her away, although Velandra was clearly reaching the end of her tolerance.

The rod jerked again, and the little hunter set the hook and landed the catch without paying attention… but then realized the line had been heavier this time. There was a flopping Fathom Eel on the sand, and… there was also a small, unwinking turtle, gazing at her with bewildered accusation for the sudden change in his surroundings.

Catching her breath in shock, the little hunter was stunned motionless for a moment. It was hard to believe. At last! After all those casts! All those fish! Then, gathering her wits, she knelt beside him and removed the hook which had gotten painlessly caught in the edge of his shell. Once free, she caressed his head with a gentle hand which shook slightly from excitement. Smiling from ear to ear, she soothed him and assured him that he was safe, but he grumpily pulled his head and legs into his shell and sulked on the sands. Her spirit cat, already rather uncomfortably sated with fish the little hunter had pressed upon him during the previous hour, paid the new arrival no mind, and continued to snooze next to her as the tip of his tail twitched in his dreams.

There was magic about the turtle, a spell which the little hunter learned. The small turtle became a large one, big enough to ride on, who eyed her with wearied dignity and a Look which clearly said, “Oh, very well. You may ride me, but unlike your other mounts, I go at my own pace.”

Been fishing for this mount off and on since the mount was implemented in Wrath of the Lich King and have done close to, if not more than, 5,000 casts inside fish schools. Log on today to try a bit more and head to Twilight Highlands since guppies sell the most on my server and 2 schools in some punkass kid starts standing on my lure with a mammoth and informs me the turtle is his and that I should get lost.

I stay regardless and the kid finally dismounts but starts following me, forcing me to split schools with him but after 4 more schools I see the blue in the loot window and just bust out laughing as I get the achievement toast with the punk kid standing next to me; all he had to say was "..." as I said "Later, b****" and flew away.

That made the wait totally worth it.

So I rolled a new warlock this week to experience the new class changes. I have the Sea Turtle mount Account-bound. I absent-mindedly hit my keybind for mounting (I use GoGoMount) while I was level 4 and to my surprise, I was sitting on my Sea Turtle! I checked the mount UI and found that every mount was unavailable—the "Mount" button was greyed out. However, after bringing the issue to the addon creator's attention he noted you can still right-click to summon the Sea Turtle mount.

I am assuming the Sea Turtle mount works at this low level because it doesn't have an improved movement speed, although the increased swim speed still works. I'm curious if anyone else here has seen this bug.

What a lucky day! I had a Hunter alt parked to check for Poseidus occassionaly rather than sit and camp for it like I'd done for Aeonnax and Time-Lost Proto Drake. My little hunter was on a roll after getting the Grey Camel yesterday and then this morning found Poseidus! I learned the mount (charging 75k on AH just seemed wrong!). While I was on a roll, I took my main warlock out for some fishing :)

I'd installed Rarity addon and spent hours in Northrend catching only fish... imagine that! I decided to check out some other spots and about 10 catches in Twilight Highlands and I landed my turtle! In total I'd made 1159 attempts for the turtle with 525 skill and I was using a +100 lure at the time. I know that's not supposed to matter but that's how I caught my turtle :)

Good luck to the rest fishing for it. It's worth it! :)

Word of warning: You are NOT entitled to this mount. This mount chooses to love some people, but HATES others.

Some people get this mount before they had hit 450 fishing back then, now people are getting this mount with starter accounts at Darkmoon Isle.

And then there's people like me, people who will probably never get this mount. I comment today because I hit the 25k mark from pools. This mount can be THAT rare, do not expect to get it within an hour. If you're like me, this long term project mount looks like it will be carrying on in rarity to Mists now. It's sad really, when you've seen Ashes of Alar drop more times than you've gotten this mount.

This prize continues to elude me. I've maxed out the fishing skill on three different characters, fished every pool in every eligible zone (including Darkmoon Island), completed numerous fishing achievements along the way and have been single-handedly responsible for causing fish prices to plummet on two different servers by flooding the market with what I catch. All to no avail.

And I thought camping for Aeonaxx was difficult......(sigh)

I have tested the speed of both the riding turtle and the sea turtle on a level 1 toon using the monkey speed addon.
I can confirm that:
- both turtles are usable by all your toons on the same realm (as with most almost all other mounts),
- both turtles can be used by level ones (without riding skill),
- the mount up guild perk does increase your speed up to 110% running speed,
- both turtles swim at 108% running speed,
- neither the mithril spurs nor the 2% riding speed glove enchant stack with the guild perk,
- a macro with /cast riding turtle or /cast sea turtle allows a low-level toon to bypass the current bug which prevents dropping the mount's icon on your interface. This macro works for both mounting and dismounting.

I decided to test my luck on this mount today and with a fishing skill of 250 I headed to crystalsong in northrend.
After about 20min or maybe 15pools or so I decided to give up (I'm very impatient,lol). On what was going to be my last pool and "throw" I saw "Turtles All the Way Down"!.

I'm an avid fisher but wasn't farming this..just happened to fish one up finally which is sort of rewarding as I've probably fished in thousands of pools since this mount was introduced a couple expansions ago.

Just got this from a Krasarang Paddlefish pool in the Dojani River in Krasarang Wilds, so they DO drop in Pandaria and not just Northrend/Cataclysm zones like the achievement suggests.

I have 600 fishing and caught more than 5k fish, never expecting to get this, so it was a nice surprise. Good luck!

I will clarify this. I just fished mine up and got the achievement today. Fished mine up in the Yan-Zhe River in Valley of Four Winds while farming Krasarang Paddlefish. Despite the fact that the achievement DOESN'T include Pandaria....it should be noted that it is possible to farm it there.

11/9/12 at 1:59am server i was fishing at the darkmoon faire. there was a really nasty troll, covering the shipwrecked fishing holes with his mammoth mount and other childish things. but anyway, i was fishing up some good crates, lotta green items, and thought hey maybe i should stay a lil bit and see if the turtle mount shows up, and there it was, turtles all the way down flashed over my screen. ive been off and on trying for this guy for a couple months now. good things come to those that don't troll. (also, the achievement doesn't list this as place to fish it up, but i can confirm it does indeed drop here) good luck!

I acquired this mount a couple years ago in Sholazar Basin. At the time I was into grinding, I think I fished for 11 hours straight before I acquired this mount. Which according to some people is pretty quick. I am sad to say though that the animation sound for when he jumps in the air and tucks his head and legs in seems to have been removed which is a shame. Still a neat mount, and handy for crossing rivers/lakes as it swims faster.

This can be mounted before learning riding skill and before level 20!

Not sure if it's been mentioned (had a look through comments but couldn't see a reference to it) but I've been riding around on this on my level 19 twink. Believe it gives a speed of 110%, 2% up on my rogues normal landspeed of 108%.

Not sure if this is intentional, and for some reason I haven't tested it in the battlegrounds yet, will do ASAP!

Got this on my lock about a month ago. I'm on a starter account, so my options were fairly limited as to where I had to fish up this bad boy. I flew up to Wetlands, then snuck in to Twilight Highlands from there. Found my way to the nearest fishing hole and settled in. Fishing on and off about four or five hours a night, I finally got it after about three solid months. Fishing skill was at 375 (high as I could get it) with the limitations on my starter account. I used a Bone Fishing Pole and a Weather Beaten Fishing Hat so total fishing skill was 410.

You guys are gonna hate me. I don't fish, and was only fishing for the sugar minnows to feed my Cloud Serpent for the dailies. My fishing skill was 1 two days ago, so I can only get fish in Pandaria from the pools. I was on my second day of dailies, near the fishing village, with a skill of 15 when I caught the Sea Turtle, on my 18th total cast. I was using a basic pole, no spinners, nothing. So, yes, it CAN be done by anyone, even lucky peeps like me. With a drop rate of .03% or whatever, just don't try to catch it, and be excited when you do. Happy Fishing!

The Turtles All the Way Down achievement is one of the better examples of just how random that WoW's internal Random Number Generator (RNG) can really be in some cases.

As some of the posts here indicate, you might fish it up in less than a hundred casts. If your luck is a little lacking, such as mine was, it could take you one, two, even three or more years to fish up this mount. In my case, I periodically fished over three-years before finally getting it.

Time is on your side. You'll get it!

So i was in Uldum and had been there for quite a while (about 3 days) when i suddenly decided to go and fish in Grizzly Hills. I said to myself: Just this last fishing pool, and then i'm off! So when i threw in my second cast in the pool, and waited for it to move. I clicked it, and saw a blue quality item showed up and i read "Sea Turtle" and my heart went crazy! Yes it is completely random. I cry a little bit inside when I hear of someone getting this in a ridiculously short time. I fished every node in Northrend during Wrath. Every node in the new Cata Zones. And finally today in Pandaria it dropped.

I can confirm that the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm does increase the chance for the Sea Turtle to drop.

I was lucky enough to spot the fisherman in Valley of the Four Winds and get the item, then after a couple of thousand casts I found both a Giant Mantis Shrimp and the Sea Turtle at the same time.

Unless I happened to hit a bug, it appears this DOES require level 20 but does NOT require riding skill. This means you can mount this up on your way to a trainer... not only is it faster in water, but if your guild has made much progress on land it will be 110%, too.

Picked this up yesterday in Krasarang (Krasarang Wilds) while fishing a pool doing the Wolf Piranha fishing quest (Piranha!) on the Kras river where the quest indicates to catch the Piranha. I was fishing in a Pool and it just happened BOOM Achieve! Made me bounce around in my seat.

My fishing is an abysmal 340-something on this character and I was just using my 'built in' pole- not wanting to switch out to my strong fishing pole because of the mobs right around the area and I just hit 90 a week or so ago.

This is about the last thing I was expecting - thanks Blizz! It is soooo cute!

Something for the folks fishing in Darkmoon - according to Rarity, only casts into a SCHOOL (i.e. Shipwreck Debris) count towards the Sea Turtle, regardless of where on Darkmoon Island you're fishing from. Not sure why, but it might save some frustration for some of ya trying to find a 'good spot.'

Information that may be useful since there isnt alot regarding Sea Turtle and Pandaria.

Fished this today after 10154 'fish and other things caught'.
Was using a Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm, and since the Sea Turtle was the second to a Krasarang Paddlefish i believe it does increase your chances.
I did not have a fishing pole equipped, nor was there one in my bags. Obviously because of this i was neither using a lure of any kind!
It was fished out of a pool of 'large pool of panicked paddlefish'. Supporting information that it can indeed be fished out of the daily pools, and indeed the large daily pool.

I started farming over a week ago, and spend all available time fishing in the daily areas. During which time i also caught 3 of the tiny carps.
My suggestion to you is if you want the Sea Turtle...farm it! Bite the bullet and dedicate a week or two to getting it.

still fishing for this cute/epic/glorius mount started at around 200ish fishin at first passed 375 still no sign of the turtle but i will keep trying in grizzly hills :> from what i know its mountable at lvl 1 it swims at 60%+ speed but normal walking speed on land its really cute and its /mountspecial of stand still press space bar is the same as all turtles in the game it pulls its head in and makes a small jump then lays on the ground for 1,8 seconds then plops back out its highest chance to get in grizzly hills and theres plenty fishing schools there i deffinently recommend it and i wish you good luck in you're hunt :> sorry for my bad spelling

Just got mine today! Learned fishing about a week ago. Ended with 576 fishing skill. Never used poles or lures and only fished in schools of fish. Make a macro with Anglers Fishing Raft for FAST fishing down rivers and such.

So I started fishing in June's Darkmoon Faire since the first day it started... I look up possible coordinates that drop sea turtle in darkmoon faire island, tried 3 different coordinates(it's been 3 days so far...), each day/coordinate i spend avg. 4 hrs to 7 hrs and half just sit there and fish, listening to music, surfing on the web, hope to get sea turtle mount...

My fishing skills from 1 - 375 in the first day...(i'm using starter account, because i forgot my old account, it's been long time i played WOW), got my 1000 fish achievement in 2nd day beginning... but still no sea turtle...

Fished this up today in one of the large Krakkanon "Catch of the day" pools in Townlong Steppes... highly recommended to fish for this there, as there's no moving around trying to locate pools.

I found by chance that you can mount this turtle before level 20, so with no riding training.
It is affected by the guild mount speed bonus, so you can go at 110% speed for a small advantage.
Beside, of course, looking cool even at low levels.

While doing the Angler dailies, I decided I would try and fish the pools when collecting dojani eel, just for the chance to fish up the sea turtle. At the end off my first week doing this I was successful. It took me around 189 casts.
I didn't have any special rod or buffs and my fishing skill was 515.

Well, I've fished around 10k fishes now, gotten 6 dark herrings, and still no turtle. I'm starting to wonder if Blizzard has made this mount unavailable for me, but I guess it will all be worth it when I get the mount <.<

Just fished mine up today from a pool of Tiger Gourami Slush, one of the fish of the day pools in Kun-lai Summit (32,42), I was using my Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm and I'd fished up about 280 Gourami when it dropped :3

To clarify this for everyone and summarize the 250 posts in this section: The Sea Turtle mount can be caught from:

• Pools in Pandaria, including Fish of the Day pools (thanks Jemi).
• Cataclysm-level pools, such as those in Deepholm, Mount Hyjal, Tol Barad, Twilight Highlands and Uldum. Pool of Fire are not yet confirmed to contain Sea Turtles.
• Pools in Northrend, including Pool of Blood (normally only fished for a daily quest).
• Darkmoon Island's Shipwreck Debris (Darkmoon).
• This can also be caught from any pool in WoD, as well as from ship missions with the net equipped, and from Lunarfall Cavedwellers. (thanks GreySage)
• If the ships in your Draenor garrison naval yard have the Tuskarr Fishing Net equipped, it is also possible for this to drop via a naval mission. I just got it that way.(thanks ChadCloman)

Some sources suggest that the Sea Turtle can be caught from any fishable water in Northrend. This is a mis-translation or mis-understanding: The English patch notes and achievement clearly state "pool". In English, "pool" does not describe large bodies of water like seas (further discussion).

Turtles are very rare catches! Catch rates are estimated at about 1/5000. Expect to catch many thousands of fish from pools before finding a turtle. Once you have learned to ride your Sea Turtle, you will not catch a second Sea Turtle, since the mount is bound and unique.

I have 535 Fishing and used Dragon Fishing Pole plus Bright Baubles for a total of 640 Fishing skill points. It took me around 30-35 minutes to catch it which I think is pretty lucky!

I just fished this up at 566 fishing, in Tiger Gourami pools in shado pan monastary... I have my dragon pole with Heat-Treated Spinning Lure ... was not even at 2000 fish yet. Pretty happy. I also fished up 5 Tiny White Carp here and they all sold on ah for 3k on arthas US. they sold for 3k within hours. So you can make money while farming for sea turtle.

I wanted this beauty ever since Wrath was released, and to this day...10,000 pools later across countless number of different characters, I still have not got this. But the worst thing of all was a guild member got this turtle the first day of release. He just showed up on the shores of Northrend, threw out his line and was blessed with a miracle in the form of a mountable sea turtle. I've had an urge to punch people in the face who are THAT lucky ever since.

I was farming in Uldum and Northrend for 2 days. But a week later i thought to give it a try again. This time in pandaria. I was fishing in Mossgreen Lake, Timeless Isle. Got it after 10 minutes fishing. This is all about luck, you can get it after 5 minutes or after days. Be positive and don't give up. Then you will be so happy for the mount, like I am now. You also get achivments for fishing skill, i come to lvl 400 before i got my mount.

Remember you have to fish in a school to get this mount.

Easiest place to farm your turtle is Mossgreen Lake in Timeless Isle with the Angler's Fishing Raft (Anglers Fishing Raft)

The pools respawn immediately and rafting allows you to avoid aggro from the tigers along the shore.

i had just got my 500 fish achievement and literally like 3 fish later i got a sea turtle. im at 225 fishing skill because im farming Albino cavefish in deepholm and too lazy to hearth back to SW and go to a trainer so im guessing fishing skill isnt a factor in the drop rate. im so happy :D

After about 80 stacks of fish, I found the Sea Turtle in a pool at 13,40 in the Grizzly Hills near Zeb'Halak. I was using the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole with Aquadynamic Fish Attractor and Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat and had 491 Fishing skill. I can understand the reason for the downvotes so please downvote all you wish, it can be very frustrating when the drop rate is next to nothing. but the following is true. Whether you believe this info or not isn't going to increase your chances, but it would at least increase the number of chances.

These CAN be caught in crates summoned with Darkmoon Fishing Cap IN Darkmoon Island.
So it may be worth your while to get the cap on as many alts as you can, and summon more chances every hour.

I have not tested this outside of Darkmoon Island though, even though you can summon crates in any fishable water outside of Darkmoon Island I cannot confirm whether the drop is node specific or zone specific.

The best part of this mount is that it's usable before you can acquire riding skill. It doesn't increase your land speed, but it makes you feel faster, and that can make all the difference. If the game won't let you drag it from the mount screen to your bar just use "/cast Sea Turtle" and off you go! I've been getting a lot of funny looks in the dwarf 1-10 zone on my turtle.

I was fishing at the fish of the day spawning area hoping for Nat Pagle's quest items (I just returned to the game after almost a year, need to catch up with my factions), but I guess I got really lucky, I just fished up my cute sea turtle. I scared the jiffies out of my boyfriend when i started squeaking "I got it I got it!". I had the Kalu'ak fishing pole equipped, nothing else really (and i have 600 fishing skill). The abundance of fish pools in the fish of the day spawning area makes farming for useful stuff really easy, and I hope more people will be able to find their elusive turtles there.

I do not have a coordinate add on, so will try to tell you. I fished one up from a pool today just South of Unga Ingoo village in Krasarang Wilds. It was directly south of the western building on the island when looking at the main map. I did not have max fishing (Only 425). I was using an Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm so I think this may have increased my chances.

This location is not indicated on the map for spots to fish the mount. I do not know how to add a dot to the wowhead map for this location so I would appreciate it if someone would add this spot.

Caught the sea turtle while fishing in Jade Forest for lungfish daily pools about 10 minutes ago (5am pst). It was in the Woods of the Lost which is a common spot for the fish of the day. I do have the fishing charm equiped as well.

A better item can be found in a chest on the Timeless isle. nl the "Cursed Swabby Helmet".
It gives you a buff (one hour cooldown) of +200% swimspeed, adds waterbreading and changes you into a hozen.

This mount is useable on a lower then lvl 20 char just like the riding turtle but with account wide mounts mount it shows grey in mount tab and says in red you dont meet the requirements for this mount, but with a simple macro you can use it.

Just got mine after approx. 480 casts, had the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm active and she was fished out alongside a Jade Lungfish. Although it's probably not relevant, I fished her at my favorite place in the Jade Forest, the Serenity Falls. I was looking for Nat's daily fish and almost fell from my chair when the achievment flashed. Ironically I enabled the addon 'Rarity' just moments before - it now shows "10 casts until I fished my sea turtle". <_<

i had to create an account just so i could say that today , after two years of on and off farming i finally got my torty, after so long with no luck i assumed i must be doing something wrong so i checked for further tips and hints and read that Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm can increase chances of getting that elusive hero in a half shell by 1/5, so i camped the npc got one on an alt who needed to level fishing and began fishing, in valley of the four winds i got it on my second pool cast at 198 skill level, suffice to say it could of been just chance but i am 100% sold in the idea that it does increase your odds by 1/5. now i must away to venture all over azeroth on my turtle with Speedy at the rear.

The best location to fish for this mount is within the Fish of the Day pools in Pandaria. Fishing in these pools doesn't augment the drop rate; however, since fishing pools have a finite amount of fish you can only cast your bobber in so many times. So, take the time to head outside of Halfhill in Valley of the Four Winds, share a cup of green tea with Ben of the Booming Voice, and then (kindly) request him to pinpoint the location of the Fish of the Day in Pandaria (represented by a red X on your world map).

Now, you can "increase" your chances of seeing the Sea Turtle drop by using the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm. Realistically, you should expect at least a few days of fishing before seeing this mount drop; however, the RNG Gods operate in mysterious ways; thus, you could see it on your first cast or your 908th cast.

Ever since I found out about the Sea Turtle in Wrath of the Lich King, I was determined to fish up this elusive little bugger from there on out. With Mists of Pandaria wrapping up and everyone preparing for the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion, I still have yet to fish this mount up. Over about 10,000 fish and other items caught from various pools across World of Warcraft on many characters with no luck, I feel I'm just destined to never catch this glorious mount. And to make it even worse, my friend who has only fished up about 100 or so fish from Pandaria, caught the Sea Turtle while just randomly fishing in a pool he spotted down below.
I hope others have better luck than I do with catching your dream, for me, my line never tugs...

Took me over 6500 casts for the mount, used the Charm right form the start (new char) and it looks like the Charm caused the mount to drop as it was the second item and not the first. Always fished from the Day pools.

Needless to say im happy it finally dropped, i only fished for this mount and not to get fish (my bank is full of that stuff now as it's slow to sell)

I was bored one night and decided to go fish to pass time and I get this banner popping up saying I won!

Here is what I used to get this:

I am exalted with the Anglers and was given the dragon fishing pole (which I believe ups your fishing exp by 100). I used the bright baubles and fished in only the tiger gourami pools in the Emperor's Reach.

I was there maybe 15 minutes at the most when this little number came up for me and I had NO clue you could even fish for a mount.

Since i can't pay my subscription (nor buy WOD), I decided to play on my Starter account to create a level 20 twink and have some fun, but since BG at lower levels are very rare, i got bored and started fishing and collecting some low level companions, and what a funny 10 days it was, first i got my Sea Pony , Giant Sewer Rat and Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, but today is the most exciting of all, fished this beautiful turtle right now at the jade forest just after few days of farming (like 600-800 tries), now i understand why is everyone excited and happy about looting this rarity.

TLDR : The best spot for farming this mount is The Jade Forest, at the Temple of The Jade Serpent and Serpent's Heart, why this spot exactly ? it's if full of neutral mobs, friendly NPC's ,full of Jade Lungfish pools and not a single enemy around (PvP / PvE) so you can farm it as i did even at lower level,i've uploaded a screen showing the route i took, good luck for everyone ;)

I just want to say sorry in advance, I'm one of those people who everyone hates.

Was just minding my own business, fishing up some pearls in Borean Tundra for some tailoring. Cast maybe 5 or so times on the south border and moved up North West a ways to where I'm told they're spawned in clams. Cast another 10 times or so and a pool spawns. Me, being already incredibly bored with this farm, fish in the pool. What pops up but this little guy! What the crap is that? He's cute, let's add him to the ol' mount collection. Later, curious as to what wowhead has to say about it, read all about it on this cute little page.

With the significant increase in "fished-up rate" of the frostdeep minnow in your garrison fishing pond via patch 6.1, the sea turtle mount is much easier to get now.

Just fish in your garrison...don't bother trying it anywhere else in the world. You'll get it pretty fast.

Finally got one today. It took 1791 casts in the level 3 fishing shack. Out of those casts, I caught 48 Lunarfall Carp, which translate to a 2.7% drop rate on the carp. The turtle came on the 46th carp. The rate seems to be slightly higher on catching the carp. I am fishing at a level of 1115 with all the boosts. Good luck to everyone in getting yours. This is definitely the way to go when compared to trying to fish it out of pools.

You can catch him indirectly from your Garrison lake.

If you catch a Frostdeep Minnow you can summon a Frostdeep Cavedewller (for Horde) or Lunarfall Cavedweller (for Alliance) which loot contains the Sea Turtle and even the TCG loot Riding Turtle. The drop rate is very small, you have ~0,5% chance for these mounts.

I got lucky today, and looted the Sea Turtle from them. I wish you the same luck as i had! :)

4/6/15 Got my Sea Turtle just now! Took about 30 kills from Frostdeeps's and at most 1k casts. Got 12 Nat coins and basically every drop available from the book to the monocle in the process. Was at 1100 fishing w/ the hat and the fishing pole the frostdeep's dropped + the Worm supreme which I ended up with 3 stacks of. Took all night with not really paying attention fishing while watching netflix with the wifey. I would recommend not spawning them until you get the max stack of 5 because it seemed like every time I got one, the next one I got came a lot quicker and they always dropped in quick succession, when I used one then fished it always seemed like an eternity passed before the next one dropped. Also, when using a lot of different bait, a higher fishing skill most certainly made it drop quicker, every worm supreme used I always got at least one to drop while as with the 100+ and the 75+ only got me one every other or more. I did not have Nat as a follower while doing this. Good luck everyone! I'll be trying for the Riding Turtle next.

Edit: 4/7/15 Just got my Riding Turtle ! took 12 kills with the same exact setup. Make sure to have your fishing as high as you can, collect 5 frostdeep's and then kill all 5 before looting. It's all I did, with 1100 fishing skill and it worked with both turtles. (: I hope you guy's get one too.

I just got this mount from a naval mission in my ship yard. I have the fishing net on a ship, and the ship brought me back some fish and this mount. Needless to say, I'm freaking out. :-D

You can actually get this mount now from Ship Missions when you are using the Tuskarr Fishing Net.

I got mine from the Oil Rig repeatable mission, since I am using two Bloodelf Ships with these fishing nets to passively farm fish.

I got it on my first mission with fishing net actually. Probably the chance is quite nice.

I received my mount today from the Oil Rig: Pickup mission with the Tuskarr Fishing Net equipped, note that I have only been using the Tuskarr Fishing Net for a week so it seems the chances are rather high to get the mount this way; but maybe I was just lucky.

My fishing profession is only 32/700 which leads me to believe your fishing level is irrelevant in regards to receiving the mount this way. Also, my fishing shack is only level 2, so I can confirm you don't need a fishing shack level 3 as some folks have inquired here.

I have a strong feeling that since you don't need a fishing shack or the fishing profession to equip your ships with the Tuskarr Fishing Net that you don't need either to receive the mount this way, however I cannot confirm this suspicion.

Also note that you do still get the achievement entitled "Turtles All the Way Down" through obtaining the mount this way.

There currently is a rumor involving this mount and the new Garrison Shipyard by using Tuskarr Fishing Net. It would make a little more sense to why this ship equipment costs 500 resources and significantly reduces each mission's success chance in exchange of 10(ish) fish income per 4-18 hours...

I would appreciate if someone could confirm this from their own experience and give us details:

I'd like to ask:
-What kind of mission did you send your ships (Combat, oil Rig, Treasure, Training)? - Were both of them equipped with the fishing net?
-Did you have maxed fishing skill or Fishing Shack Level 3 / Nat Peagle as a follower?

I have been trying to get this mount via Shipyard but Im not sure if this some kind of myth playing with my feelings since I've been trying to get this mount and this seems to be my opportunity to FINALLY do so as I do not longer dispose of that much time to farm it via fishing. I am slowly working towards the 250 mount achievement and thats why I'm highly interested. Thank you for your time

A group of people told me they got their mounts really easy because now you now have a chance to fish these up in Garrison naval missions if you attach a Tuskarr Fishing Net to your ships. You bring in a ton of fish on successful missions and have a chance to get the mount. Going to test and report back.

I FINALLY GOT IT!

I spent three weeks in game exclusively fishing trying to get this mount; in the process, I levelled my fishing from 1-700, became exalted with The Anglers in Pandaria, knocked out just about every other fishing achievement in game and came within in 2 achievements of the "salty" title...none of which I would have done if not farming this mount.

I watched every "strategy" video and read every guide; at 1k casts I was frustrated, by 5k casts I was exhausted, by 7k casts I wanted to give up, and by 8k casts I was too far in the game to give up.

I cast 4k casts in Pandaria to no avail. I cast 1k casts in Uldum...nothing. I cast 3k casts throughout Northrend. Finally tonight I had the thought that since Northrend was where it was first introduced, I was going back there. I fished about 50 casts in the Frozen Sea off the Borean Tundra coast when a Night Elf showed up and tried taking my spot (not just near me...literally the exact pool I was fishing in). No one was taking my spot - so I shot and killed her. Then I decided I didn't want to farm where there was a chance for competition anyway, so I flew up to the lake in the middle of Borean Tundra; 3 casts into that lake and the blue "sea turtle" popped up under loot!

I didn't fish this up the "easy" way in my naval yard or hanging out in my garrison like a lot of others seem to have done lately; I did it the "old-fashioned" way, going to all different areas of the world trying every possible spawn point. This made me appreciate it sooo much more when it finally dropped.

Here's my advice to anyone still hunting for her/him: go to Borean Tundra (from my research/observations, this seems to be where a slight majority find it...including myself), get away from other people, and DO NOT give up if you want it badly enough. It took me 8,746 casts....she's slow, but she's worth it. :-)

One last note: a special thank you to that Night Elf who rudely flew in and tried taking my fishing spot..turns out it wasn't so great after all.

My method for catching the sea turtle (Jan. 2016):

I finally decided to bite the bullet and just start farming for this elusive mount.

Zone: Mist of Pandaria. Specifically, the fish of the day zone in Timeless Isle. The fish of the day zone is provided by Ben of the Booming Voice. Just talk to him and ask for him to show it on your map.

Fishing Skill: 730. My fishing skill was maxed at 700 and I was using the Dragon Fishing Pole for an extra 30. I also used Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm, because I read in a few places that it helped. I can't tell if it actually helped or not, but I had the item and figured I might as well use it.

Number of Casts/Time: Around 1100 casts and 6 hours worth of fishing.

I would definitely recommend multitasking while doing this. Personally, I was watching some of my college lectures and was just fishing to help pass the time. I actually just finished my 3rd lecture, but had 12 minutes left on my Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm so I figured I might as well finish that up. With 2 minutes to spare on the buff I got the mount.

Catched in Large Swarm of Migrated Reef Octopus during Ben of the Booming Voice's daily quest.Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm helped,as it was the bonus drop.As I love multitasking,I fished it during farming mats for pandarian cooking ways.Rarity said 736 casts,but were many before I installed it,in Northrend and Pandaria.

I just fished this out of one of the shipwreck debris in Darkmoon island wile using a Darkmoon firewater.
the item is listed as a drop but has a 0% drop rate. idk but its is possible to get it there regardless.

Have they increased the drop rate? I just fished up a Sea Turtle in about 100-200 casts in Grizzly Hills in the water next to Zeb'Halak. I either got very lucky or this isn't so hard catch any more.

I can confirm, this mount can be "caught" from your garrison shipyard missions, if you are using the Tuskarr Fishing Net. The likelihood has to be extremely low, though, because just about every alt I have at 100 (approx. 14) has a transport with a fishing net I send on the Oil Rig mission, at least once a day (for at least 5 months).

I unexpectedly got my achievement last night, and my wife's account is linked to mine so I congratulated her... only to be told she wasn't fishing. It took me a minute to think to check the character I was on, because I was confused, and the turtle was in my bag.

As of 07/22/2016 the new personal loot changes allow a 40-Man group to share all loot from each Frostdeep Cavedweller. This effectively increases the drop rate by 40 times. I personally got both Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle within one hour of fishing in garrison, while in a 40 man group. While you do NOT need the achievement Draenor Angler to loot these mounts, you do need it to fish up Frostdeep Minnow, which is what summons Frostdeep Cavedweller, or Lunarfall Cavedweller which in turn is what drops the mounts. It is also worth mentioning that these mounts can be traded to other raid members for two hours.

Since Legion pre-patch, you can now get this and Riding Turtle from Frostdeep Cavedweller (Horde version) or Lunarfall Cavedweller (Alliance version) with an increase chance of droping since it's personal now. Just form a garrison fishing group and keep fishing until any of this mobs are spawned and go kill them. Anyone has a chance of geting this 2 mounts. I got both of them in 20min :)

Haven't seen this being mentioned yet, both Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle when looted from Frostdeep Minnow in a group can be traded within that group within a 2 hour window like previous raid drops, feel free to bring a friend along in case a mount you have already learned drops again.

This is still working and working well. We had a two hour session averaging 20-40 people.

I personally got the riding turtle at about 1 hr and the sea turtle at about 1 hour 50 minutes.

In total we probably have 12-15 turtle drops, countless compasses, one pet and a million fish.

I also got about 50 Nat's coins and 500 primals.

If you still need the mounts - get into a group now before they close up this avenue of getting it.

I noticed there is a graphic bug with these turtle models (both of them riding and sea turtle) that makes their shell look INDENTED where your feet/legs rest on the sides...like the shell goes concave on those areas and it looks really awkward...hope they fix it.

If you are looking for an underwater mount and have not been able to fish up this mount, not to worry. The Darkmmon Faire will have the Darkwater Skate available for 500 Darkmoon Daggermaw fish for sale with the start of patch 7.1. A bit unfair for those folks who worked hard for this elusive mount. Me, I got my turtle by just random fishing in Northrend back in the day and was not even aware of the mount until I landed one.

WHEW.....

So after 20,000+ items caught from fishing mainly all over Northrend I gave up. I have outfitted all my fleet from my Garrison with Tuskarr Fishing Net and run as many high percentage missions as I can.

Finally it dropped after 4+weeks of daily missions, much easier than fishing.

I fished this up from Glowing Jade Lungfish while I was farming my Tiny Green Carp along with my fishing skill level. I was only 348 fishing level. I was standing at Sri-La Village, close to the spawn point of the Warbringer rare elite, I was in the middle of the upper pool, I was on the big rock there. I had Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm on.

If you want to get this mount the easiest way possible (no fishing involved) put Tuskarr Fishing Net on all your boats in your Garrison - yes, your Draenor Garrison shipyard boats for missions - and not only will you get fish that will count toward achievements and your fishing hut, but you have a great chance at fishing up a mount. I did pretty quickly. (I was fairly surprised as well!) I wish all of you luck!

Still drops from Tuskarr's Fishing Net via Draenor Garrison Naval Missions. I was sending missions daily for over a year (I always log out at my Draenor garison, so it wasn't much of a hassle)... and I wasn't sure if it still drops but got it just now. Together with the achievement, of course :D

FYI, the sea turtle is still available via fishing nets in garrison naval missions. After years of fishing Northrend to DEATH for a sea turtle back in the day, this just drops from a naval mission. I had no idea until today.

Some comments here made me think I would get this mount in a few weeks with fishing nets on your ship yard. I had fishing nets on every single ship in my ship yard(maxed ship yard) and did as many missions as possible 1-2 times a day and it still took me 4 months straight to get this turtle to drop..SO it does drop but, it can take ages and ages, RNG is RNG.

Also if anyone was curious as I was you will not breath underwater with this mount .. i was disappointed when i found this out.

Lunarfall Carp has 0.2% chance to drop this mount. There's a 3% chance for you to fish up a Lunarfall Carp. This means that statistically you need to do 15000 casts to get it. You can do about 200 casts per hour, so it will take you approximately 75 hours.

I just got my Sea Turtle from an Imperial Manta Ray School in Grizzly Hills a few days ago. To be exact, it dropped 09.03.19 at 1:10 AM (UTC +1).

It took me approximately 5,254 tries to get it.

As a mount farmer who've just been through the journey of getting one of these bad boys I just wanted to share how to get it and my experience getting it, and hopefully that will help clarify a few of the doubts some of you might have about whether you want to go for it or not, or if you're already determined to go for it, how to go for it.

Alright, let's get into it.

There are two ways to get this mount:

Fish it up from any fishing pool in Deepholm, Mount Hyjal, Twilight Highlands, Uldum, Northrend, or Pandaria, as stated in the achievement Turtles All the Way Down.
Kill Lunarfall Cavedweller (alliance) / Kill Frostdeep Cavedweller (horde).

Option 1:

Option 1 is by far the easiest way to get it, as it requires very little upfront work. All you have to do is learn fishing and start fishing from any fishing pools/schools mentioned in the achievement above. Fishing skill, +fishing gear or anything else you attach to your fishing pole is not needed to fish up the mount. After what I've read, all it does is; give you a decreased chance of fishing up crap if you have it maxed and equipped. However, it's barely a difference and I wouldn't bother with it if you don't want it for the swag. For the record, I did have all of that stuff I just mentioned when I fished up the mount, but from what I've read, it shouldn't make a difference. Now here is the upfront part. In order to fish in Northrend or higher areas you need to reach a certain level. You can check these levels yourself at the fishing trainer, but I can tell you that to train Northrend Fishing, which is the lowest possible area to fish up the mount, you need to be level 58.

So if you follow Option 1, here is what you do:

Reach level 58 or higher (as that is when you can learn Northrend Fishing).
Learn Northrend Fishing.
Travel to Northrend (or an higher area if you want to - remember to check the achievement).
Find yourself some fishing pools/schools and start fishing.

From what I've read, the drop chance is between 0.01-0.03% depending on the zone you chose to fish in. You can look further into this in the Fished in section at the top of this page. Grizzly Hills (which is where I caught it) is the only zone which has a 0.03% drop chance (which is the highest drop chance).

In theory 0.01-0.03% drop chance will require you to fish from a fishing pool/school 7,000-10,000 times... in theory. It might take 1 attempt, or it might take 1 million attempts, but you usually land within the 7,000-10,000 range.

For anyone interested in picking Option 1, I would highly recommend you to make yourself a route in Grizzly Hills and farm it there, as it has the 0.03% drop chance, which is 7,000 casts (again, in theory).

Moving on to Option 2:

When you're in your Garrison, by the water, you can throw out a Lunarfall Carp (alliance) / Frostdeep Minnow (horde) to summon a Lunarfall Cavedweller (alliance) / Frostdeep Cavedweller (horde). This mob is level 100 and has approximately a 0.2% chance to drop the two mounts Sea Turtle and Riding Turtle. So using this way you actually get the chance to get two mounts at once, with better drop chance. Anyways, here's the catch (yes, there's always a catch, oh and no pun intended btw):

In order to get the fish just mentioned (the ones you throw out) you can either buy it from players who have them (I'm not 100% sure about this one, but it used to work). What you did was pay a player X amount of gold and he would throw the fish out and let you kill the mob spawning from it, meaning you'd get the mount if it dropped. Now however, after the loot-sharing incident that caused these mounts to be easy to obtain for a period of time (search this up on YouTube if you're interested to know more about it), that might not work anymore.

The other way to do it though, which I'm certain about, is this way:

Reach the level necessary to own a Garrison and fish in a Garrison.
Complete the achievement Draenor Angler to unlock the Fishing Shack, level 3.
Build your Fishing Shack, level 3, which will allow you to fish up Lunarfall Carp (alliance) / Frostdeep Minnow (horde).
Start fishing for Lunarfall Carp (alliance) / Frostdeep Minnow (horde). The fish has a 2% drop chance.
Get the fish, throw it out, kill the mob and pray to RNGesus.
Rince, reapeat (no pun intended).

I farmed for a few days and finally got it. I probably killed about 750-1,000 Lunarfall Cavedwellers to get it in total. I couldn't find any comments from people in the last year saying this method was still 100% possible so I wanted to give people looking at the comments like I do some hope. KEEP ON FISHING IN THAT EASY GARRISON MODE FOR THIS ONE! Forget about searching for pools of fish all day and night! :)

Still drops from the Darkmoon Faire pools. Got mine while farming Firewater, after around 10,000 casts and after completely giving up trying XD. It WILL drop eventually, just expect it to take some time

In 3 hours with a 10 man raid group garrison fishing got Sea Turtle , Riding Turtle and the 50 coins I needed for Reins of the Crimson Water Strider

In those 3 hours at least 3 more Sea Turtle and Riding Turtle dropped for other people in the group so garrison group is definitely the way to do this. Make sure everyone has completed Draenor Angler achievement so that they can fish up the Frostdeep Minnow needed to summon the Frostdeep Cavedweller or Lunarfall Cavedweller

I joined a group, fished for about an hour, and both mounts dropped within a minute of each other, from two consecutive mobs. I can confirm that you don't need anything special to get them, I had level 2 fishing shack, and no rep with Nat Pagle. Riding turtle dropped from the first mob, and a minute later the Sea Turtle dropped from the second mob. I couldn't believe it myself. I hope this helps anyone who thinks you need any prerequisite to get the mounts. Just a reminder that the mounts drop from the mobs that are summoned by the item, not from fishing itself. I did not receive that item because I think you need a level 3 fishing shack. Again not a prerequisite, as people in the group will get that item and summon the mob for you. Happy fishing!

I fished this up today in the Fields of Niuzao, it's the pond located close to Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes. This was the "fish of the day" spot which spawns a large amount of fishing pools in a random location daily. I'll be as specific as possible with my progress towards fishing up the sea turtle. I fished this up on a level 20 free trial character linked to my main account. When I fished up the turtle my Pandaria fishing skill was 75, my Classic fishing skill was 203 and every other expansion fishing skill was untouched at 1. I had no fishing pole equipped so no bait was used either. I used Anglers Fishing Raft everytime I was fishing which was an enormous help. I also had Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm activated at all times to see if it could possibly aid in my turtle grind. Anytime the charms ability kicked in it would grant me x2 of whatever fish I caught. More specifically it's two of the same fish in one stack, never two of the same fish in seperate stacks. From what I can remember, I also never recieved another item alongside my x2 charm ability catch. An example would be the numerous sealed crates I fished up from my grind. I tested it with the charm activated and I can sometimes catch x2 zone appropiate fish or 1 zone appropiate fish plus a sealed crate, but never x2 fish plus a sealed crate. With the charm not used I would of course not be able to catch two of the same fish in a single cast but still had a low % chance to catch one fish and a crate in the same cast. When I caught the turtle the loot table was a Redbelly Mandarin on top and the Sea Turtle underneath. Since I caught the turtle alongside another normal fish for the zone it looks like the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm does NOT do anything to aid the turtle grind and that the turtle is seperate loot you could possibly get paired with whatever you fished up.

I didn't use the addon until my last few days of farming, I'd say the unrecorded amount of fish caught during that period is around 1.1k This is what the Fishing Buddy addon was able to track.

There is no confirmation window when you fish up the turtle so either having auto loot enabled or manually clicking the item in your bag will give you the item right away. You are also immediately granted the Turtles All the Way Down achievement when it goes into your bag.

Had just learned fishing at Halfhill from Ben of the Booming Voice. He advised me reef octopi were swarming around Sri-la Village. Went there and found abundant pools. Shortly after getting my 50th fish I pulled the Sea Turtle from a reef octopus pool while fishing from a dock there. Total surprise. I've spent quite a while trying to fish this one up over the years to no avail. But at just a tad more than 50 fish- who'd a thunk?

Garrison fishing with two accounts, 158 tries combined and it dropped, by far the fastest way to loot this mount especially if you can get a few people with rank 3 to help you out !

Still obtainable by Garrison fishing in 9.1.5.
I got both turtles (Riding Turtle - Sea Turtle) in under one hour. (And yes, you'll get Turtles All the Way Down even if you loot her from NPC)
I was in raid of 20 people and we had spawned on average two Frostdeep Cavedweller per minute.
During that time, I collected 39 Nat's Lucky Coin and 3 Unusual Compass which can be sold for a nice money.
So don't waste your time fishing around the world and go to your WoD home, because this is the place you are looking for to catch these beautiful mounts.

I saw dropped another one Sea Turtle and four Riding Turtle, so it seems that the drop rate is truly around 0,3%.

It's 8th of Jan 2022 and i just got my Sea Turtle after a total of 2336 fish caught. Around 700 for unlocking the fishing shack to lvl 3 and then the rest in the garrison looking for the Lunarfall Cavedweller. I didn't count exactly how many cavedwellers i got, but it was around 60. Don't give up, it's there!

Got both Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle out of Garrison Fishing. I fished for 3 days straight, at first I started solo and killed around 106 carps the first day (6 hours of fishing). The 2nd day a friend joined and I got my Riding Turtle with him after some fishing. (9 hours of fishing) On third day I organised a full group of 7 people fishing and actually got my Sea Turtle too after a while! (7 hour of fishing) .
So 22 hours of fishing in total for me.

Overall 4980 Fish caught, which were 244 Lunarfall Cavedweller self-found. But probably add another 100 which I killed with a group so around 350 in total before getting both turtles.

Fished up the Sea Turtle in the Blue Sky Logging Grounds in Grizzly Hills (38.26, 34.70) after 1,701 total casts. I just went up and down the major river towards the west, the one next to Amberpine Lodge, fishing from different nodes. I did have the Underlight Angler equipped but I don't think that made any difference lol

spent 3 hrs in a garrison fishing grp, around 10-12 ppl joined on and off, 7 sea turtles dropped, and 3 riding turtles(the tcg one), all in all i think garrison fishing is the best way to get this mount

I caught this mount back in wrath in borean tundra, i still remember the exact spot. i was fishing for about 45 mins and had full bags. i wasnt farming for it and it popped up! it didnt auto loot cause i had full bags and i was too excited and hit spacebar on accident. the loot window disappeared and i lost the mount forever. i made a ticket and i was told because i didnt loot it into my bags they couldnt do anything about it. i havnt caught it since but havnt fished much after that, i feel a little bitter anytime i see someone on it pass by

I hate RNG. I've been fishing regularly as part of my regular play (including countless pools) through every expansion ever since this became available way back in WOTLK. I've still never gotten it on any alt.

After being punished by the Dalaran Sewers and taking 5.5k casts to get the sewer rat I fished this up after about 50 nodes, along the shore just southeast of Kaskala in the Borean Tundra.
75+5/75 Northrend fishing, nothing additional. Just the Strong Fishing Pole.

So for the superstitious, I used the Draconium Fisherfriend (+6 fishing) for 5000 casts for the sewer rat, found nothing. Bought the Strong Fishing Pole (+5 fishing) from Angelo Pescatore in the sewers and got it about 500 casts later.
I started farming for this turtle with the Draconium Fisherfriend, remembered how unlucky I was with it, switched back to the Strong Fishing Pole and found it in less than 20 nodes with it.
Definitely think that's just RNG but I felt it was worth mentioning.

I've been trying to get this for a couple days, finally when I was over 1K casts in Borean Tundra I decided to find a Garrison Fishing group, I joined and got it about an hour later, in total about 1.5K casts, your best bet is to get a Garrison fishing party together and fish for the Lunarfall Carp (alliance) or Frostdeep Minnow (horde) and summon the cave dweller. I'm the author of fishing AddOns which I won't link as you'll cruelly down vote me. My point is that I have obviously fished many hundreds, even thousands and I've never gotten the Sea Turtle. Sure it exists. But not for me sadly. Cod Do Batter next time! Let Minnow if there's a better way!

Finally got it after about 1,429 casts. I went to Howling Fjord and then to Winter's Breath Lake, north of Skorn. While there I also fished up 2 Dark Herrings and got the achievement One That Didn't Get Away.

Just to add to what is seemingly an already open door, Garrison fishing is still very much the way too go. In 90 minutes with 10-15people going we got 2 sea turtles and 4 Ground ones. It's not only time efficient but much more afk-friendly, bind your fishing and your interact key and lay back watching a show or something.

At this point in the season as of writing this plenty of people farming collectibles it's not that difficult or long to fill a group with a few players to go fishing. If you're reading this later on.. well, wait for the later part of any season really; it's always a good time to find people looking to fill the time grinding for collectibles be it mounts or otherwise.

I never comment but I got it and had to especially because I got my Blue Dragonhawk too! Got the Turtles All the Way Down and Mountain O' Mounts for 100 mounts at the same time. Didnt take long, only had 44 fishing skill so maybe about 100 times fishing? Super excited!

I wish I had a fish tale, but I was away from the game for six years, came back this June, and started finding cool stuff I have absolutely no memory of acquiring. Like a Sea Turtle mount. I'm sure I fished it up on my own (no one else has ever driven my account) but, dang, you'd think I would remember where it came from. ---- Update: After reading a bit, it's quite possible I got it in one of those WoD "group fishes." :) I have a vague memory....

For some odd reason, while you're on the Sea Turtle underwater, you can mine mithril ore (but not iron) in Thousand Needles without getting dismounted but not for herbs.

Finally fished it up for the first time ever. I got a screenfreeze and the turtle went away.

Just a quick confirmation of a few things:
Time caught, TWW expansion, so yeah it still drops.
I caught this one by fishing pools in the Borean Tundra.
I didn't have high level fishing skill.
I was ironically using the Kalu'ak rod though cause I did it for fun on an RP character. Not sure if that played any role, but I did get it in a ridiculous small amount of time compared to what it should had been...

Dropped for me tonight (12/25/25 at approximately at approximately 11:44 PM EST) at about 2250 casts (some of my casts didn't register on my Rarity addon). I fished the mount up at Lake Kum'uya in Borean Tundra from the Musselback Sculpin pools there (way 51, 44). I was not using the interact key, but when I clicked the bobber the mount did autoloot to my bag without me needing to click a prompt/accept button. I was using my ilevel 590 artisan fishing hat, ilevel 564 Bismuth fisherfriend with Algari Weaverline and a heat-treated spinning lure. Good luck friends, may the odds be ever in your favor.
