First 'Aqua Only' mount that will be available to players upon entering Cataclysm Expansion. Obtained through a quest, you can be sure its a 280% speed mount from the text "This is a very fast mount."

Beta info: This mount is 280% and is acquired by doing one of the quests in the Vashj'ir questline. and yes it looks like a nether ray.
When you are in Vashj'ir you get a buff called Sea Legs which grants you water breathing and a movement speed buff (60%) on the sea floor.

It's not the first aquatic mount, the sea turtle in wrath was, anyway, it's been changed to the Abyssal Seahorse, and it's a reward from the last quest in the Kelp Forest section of Vashj'ir. It is 280% swim speed.

For those who missed out on the mount from doing the area before the quest chain was properly implemented, go to the NPC located here and she should have a quest for you.
Met someone today who was stuck without a mount, and they found they could do the quest chain.

Can anyone confirm/deny if this mount ONLY works in completely submerged water areas (as in ONLY Vashj'ir at the moment) or can it be used while in any water, like the Druids Seacow (Aquatic) form?

It says usable in aquatic environments anyone know if Thousand Needles would count seeing as how its flooded now and a good portion of quests take place underwater not saying you will have it by that level but still would be fun to ride that and the boat.

To help my fellow horde brothers and sisters tame their Subdued Abyssal Seahorse, I scrapped together all of the quest chains that should be completed. All of these quest may not be required, but completing each quest chain appears to be. Enjoy.

Either there's a bug or this mount doesn't count towards "stable keeper" 10 mounts achievment. It's my 10th.

If you use Kennel or GoGoMount, you will need to disable it to be able to "catch" the seahorse for this quest. Not sure which of the two add-ons is creating the issue, but disabling both let me finally mount the sea critter. :)

Yes, you can use it in any water.

Can someone confirm this? the mount itself says "only usable in Vashjir" but this says "only useable in aquatic environments"...

Edit: .....it seems that as of patch 4.0.3 this only works in vash'jir.

From what I have tested the Sea Turtle is NOT as fast as the Abyssal Seahorse.

Tested using Speed Macro:

Results:
Abyssal Seahorse:
25 yrds/sec, 85.5 kph, 53.1 mph, 371% normal run speed.

Sea Turtle:
18 yrds/sec, 62.2 kph, 38.6 mph, 269% normal run speed.

Tested with Master Riding in the Abyssal Depths.

If you get a "You can't use that here" error message when you try to use this mount in Vash'jir, swim up slightly and try again. It doesn't seem to work if you are standing on the ocean floor.

You can't use this underwater elsewhere, contrary to what others have reported. If you try it says that you are in the wrong zone.

I could not mount the seahorse while I had a companion pet summoned, I actually saw the seahorse despawn when my "pet leash" add-on auto summoned a pet. Quest worked like a charm as soon as I dismissed my pet and turned off the auto summon feature,

Just thought I would mention this in case others have this problem.

Yes, with the Glyph of Aquatic Form they are equal. Speed Macro results:

Speed: 23 yds/sec, 77.7 kph, 48.3 mph, 337% normal run speed (Aquatic Form + Sea Legs, without Glyph of Aquatic Form)
Speed: 25 yds/sec, 85.5 kph, 53.1 mph, 371% normal run speed (Aquatic Form + Sea Legs + Glyph of Aquatic Form)
Speed: 25 yds/sec, 85.5 kph, 53.1 mph, 371% normal run speed (Abyssal Seahorse)

Can't mount your seahorse?

Are you... in Vashj'ir? It only works here.

Are you... standing on the ocean floor? Press your "jump" key to start swimming, then try mounting. Took me AGES before someone told me you can't be on the ground, you need to be floating/swimming before summoning the mount.

If you're running Livestock, and have it set to "automatically summon a pet", it will despawn the sea horse before you can mount it. I had to turn that off just to mount up.

You cannot mount this if you are standing on the sea floor. Not sure if its intended or a bug, either way just swim up slightly and you're able to mount.

Just a reminder: You can't use the seahorse anywhere you can use a flying mount and vice versa, so you can use the simple macro

/cast (flying mount name)
/cast Abyssal Seahorse

to use the right one.

For some reason I've had a hard time finding a good Cataclysm mount macro. Although this tosses up action in progress warnings each time you mount, it's simple and it works. Replace the first mount with your flying mount, second with your water mount, third with your land mount.

Confirmed that you CANNOT use this mount underwater outside of Vashj'ir.

Just in case anyone wonders (since I we're confused to begin with when I first got this mount) - you have to actually SWIM to be able to summon this mount. Until I got the Seahorse-mount I had been running around on the seafloor like everyone else and kept doing that shortly after completing the quest to get this mount - so heads up everyone, do NOT stand on the sea floor and try to summon this, you will fail.

Let's hope this is sorted somehow, not that it is a real problem - although it took me a min or two to figure out since it's not mentioned in the tooltip. :)

You cannot use this mount with the Preserved Holly buff as it unmounts you as soon as you mount up

My mount macro now looks like this:
/use Ebon Gryphon
/use Abyssal Seahorse
/use Swift Palomino
/dismount
/run if CanExitVehicle() then VehicleExit() return end

What does it do ?
It'll always summon your fastest mount. When mounted it'll only dismount and nothing else. Also it'll try to exit a vehicle you're in if you're allowed to do that. I tried a more complex macro with zone checking etc. before but that one failed because of the IsSwimming() condition: When walking on ground even if it's in water it doesn't count as swimming and so it always summoned my normal mount instead of the seahorse on the other hand when I was at the water surface and wanted to summon my flying mount it wouldn't let me do that because that counted as swimming so that the seahorse blocked my flying mount summon. So I scrapped that.

Yes this macro gives you 2 red "can't do that" warnings each time you mount up. But other than that it works for all 3 types of mounts, dismount and VehicleExit(). Also you can always summon your normal mount via right clicking the macro when on land instead of the flying one.

My macro for using all 3 types of mounts (flying, ground and underwater) based on where they are usable looks as follows:

#showtooltip
/cast Abyssal Seahorse; Ground Mount; Flying Mount
/dismount

What it does is checks the conditionals in the 's and when the conditionals pass you will cast the specified usable mount. It will also dismount if you are mounted on any 3 when clicked.

For pallies you can add the following extra line under #showtooltip:
/cast !Crusader Aura; !Other Aura

This will cast Crusader Aura before you call a mount or cast your other prefered aura should you dismount. Great for PvP rushing or one click mount laziness.

This macro will dynamically update its icon in your actionbar based on mount that is available and also works when you are at the water's surface, i.e. will call your flying mount instead of an underwater mount.

***UPDATE 28/09/2013***

I changed it up a bit and got rid of the "?" when mounted. This is still my go-to mount macro:

#showtooltip
/cast Ground mount
/cast Ground mount; Flying mount
#show Mount Up
/dismount

I added the "shift" modifier as WoW sometimes defies it's own logic and shows you a flying mount but it will be dulled out and unusable.

Attempting to leave vash`jir will in fact dismount you.
Shortly after entering the great sea I was dismounted and fatigued to the point of death.
Luckily I was in fact able to mount my flyer and got to da choppa.

Errm. Someone can tell me, why I get back to my home inn, when I trying to go Abyssal Depths?(From Shimmering Expanse) It is possible in real wow, or its a bug/glitch in the server where I play..? If it is possible, why? I already completed the Sea Legs quest. :s

For anyone that is not sure why you get the message "wrong zone". The Subdued Abyssal Seahorse is not the mount you can use anywhere. You can only use it in Vash'jir. The mount that you can use in any aquatic areas is Reins of Poseidus. Check the tab. Its very hard to get. i found videos on youtube. Still camping for it.

Contrary to other comments there is one other place other than Vashj'ir that you can use this mount - the sea around Timeless Isle.
I was lucky enough to get this to drop for me last week and am using it to help me farm the crabs around Timeless quite happily.

Do not use your movement keys (WASD or the Arrow Keys) to try and subdue and hang onto the Abyssal Seahorse, use the number keys, 1, 2, 3. Not sure if the ones on the keypad work also but you can use the normal number keys.
