End game raiding.
The two sockets that blacksmiths are allowed to add to their gear serve for a very practical raiding advantage. The socket type is colorless, meaning that any gem of any color will match the socket. This makes Blacksmith very alluring to any class or player.

Example: Stamina
2 extra sockets means two extra @ +60 stamina. This means that Blacksmithing give +120 stamina to raids that level their skill up.

The true advantage of blacksmithing comes from the ability to recustomize your gear. A paladin tank with blacksmithing gains the same amount of bonus stamina as a paladin tank with Mining's . Yet now our paladin tank wants to re-spec to Retrabution. In his Ret gear he will adds +80 to Strength via two . Now instead of +120 stamina, which is only useful for survivability, our Blacksmithing paladin has an extra DPS boost.

Extra: Meshing well with JC
Blacksmiths mesh very well with Jewelcrafters because a blacksmith has access to 2 additional colorless sockets, for a total of 3 colorless sockets with a belt buckle.Jewelcrafters need to put their 3 J C gems in their gear. While the gems can be put in any socket, always putting these gems in your colorless sockets makes switching gear is never a problem. When you replace gear, you will always be at 3 dragon's eyes and never worry about being over or under the limit.

Just thought I'd put up a quick list of Northrend blacksmithing plans that you do not learn straight from the trainers. All need 450 skill to learn. Most, with the exception of the first, are associated with a certain raid (Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, or Icecrown Citadel) and have an associated crafting item (Runed Orb, Crusader Orb, or Primordial Saronite respectively). All are plate except for the shield enchant. Also, keep in mind that you are probably going to be getting most of these off the Auction House for anywhere between 500g and 1000g a pop.

No associated raid: Shield Enchant

Plans: Titanium Plating (Alliance version): Requires Exalted status with either the Horde Expedition or the Alliance Vanguard. Can be bought for 15g from faction quartermasters in the Howling Fjord (Horde/Alliance) or Borean Tundra (Horde/Alliance). Cannot be bought or sold on the Auction House as they are BOP.

Ulduar (ilvl 226) plans: Waist and Feet slots
Runed Orb used in crafting. (Runed Orb)
(All are rare drops from bosses in Ulduar.)

Most (not all) 烹飪 recipes on the Alliance side are sold by 肯多爾·卡邦卡. The Horde do not have a corresponding NPC, so if you are an Alliance character wanting to create an alt on the opposite side to obtain the recipes for your main, unfortunately you'll have to have a level appropriate character to do the quests to obtain some of these recipes.

All of the recipes except one (設計圖:獸人護腿) can be traded cross-faction on the neutral AH.

Just wanted to make a quick comment on Blacksmithing. I have found it to be almost completely useless and I highly suggest you choose another profession to pair with a gathering profession.

as of phase 2 you grind out 300 levels of smithing, including one of the most grueling grinds to get to armorsmith specialization, you spend literally all of your gold in doing so for....

1: A CHANCE to craft lionheart helm. You almost certainly will not ever see the plans even drop and even then you may not win them.

2: one best in slot fire resist gear piece that only matters for a few bosses in MC, BWL, and Ony.

As of phase 2, with a level 60 plate wearing warrior, I have actually used a total of two pieces I have crafted, and only for a week or two. I do not have lionheart plans and now that I have the mats I am paying someone else to make it, and this person was kicked from their guild because they ninja looted it and it makes it all the worse because they are currently 1 of three people on the alliance side on my server who even have the skill AFAIK

With the exception of that one piece, and maybe the axe specialization piece, NO ONE buys what you make. You may occasionally fit a shield spike or spurs, but even if you charged for this, it will make next to no difference in your ability to generate gold.

Pass on smithing, If you need something from it, you're way better off to pay for someone else to make it

List of Nature Resist Pieces NOT Coming with Phase 5

Blizzard has released a list of Nature Resist pieces that ARE NOT coming with Phase 5 and the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort.
These pieces were introduced in Naxx to help guilds clear AQ40, so they don't have a place in P5 at the start.
Blizzard is evaluating when to add them.

"Overall, the nature-resist gear that was released in original WoW in patch 1.11 was catch-up gear.

The following quests can be picked up from 工匠維爾海姆 at the Light's Hope Chapel in the 東瘟疫之地 by completing 歐瑪利安之手冊 which you get from 工匠大師歐瑪利安.
He's trapped in a cage in the first room of trash in the Deathknight Wing inside 納克薩瑪斯.
With a skill of 300 and high enough reputation, you will be able to choose from a total of 13 different patterns depending on your professions: 裁縫 (4), 製皮 (6) or 鍛造 (3).

Patterns / Plans doesn't exists, all of them are taught by 工匠大師歐瑪利安 in 納克薩瑪斯

As Stubbsween so eloquently phrased it, this profession is generally not a great choice for most players.

I'd just like to go through some benefits of Blacksmithing that aren't generally discussed, or even known about.

For leveling speedruns, Blacksmithing is used by Warriors/Paladins, because at level 5 they can immediately start crafting Sharpening Stones and Weightstones from Rough Stone looted from Kobolds. If you're lucky enough to loot a 破損的戰錘 early on, and you get a 劣質平衡石 on it, you're increasing your damage by over 15%.

For Feral Druids who farm lots of 手動懲戒錘s, attaching an 鐵質平衡錘 on each one is a cheap and easy solution to either increase your threat or DPS by a somewhat noteworthy margin. These weapons are essentially just consumables, and slapping actual enchants on them is absolutely insane.

Thirdly, if you're someone who plays the game a lot, you may want to make alts with every single profession just to serve your own needs even if those needs aren't dire. Some items, like 月鋼寬劍s and 巨型鐵斧s, are required for Silithus badges, so being able to craft them for your own needs is great. Sharpening stones of various kinds are also something you can utilize yourself with multiple classes. Sure, these alone aren't reason enough to spend exorbitant amounts of gold to level a profession, but they are definite benefits to keep in mind.

Lastly, you can make money as a blacksmith even without all of the rare and highly coveted recipes. That being said, there are so many "rare recipes" out there, that you'll probably find at least one of them, and if you are an early crafter (or just a crafter who advertises their services diligently) you WILL benefit from it. Aside from the rarities, various enchanting rods, Iron Buckles, Inlaid Mithril Cylinders and grinding stones (again, for Silithus badges) will bring you a steady cash flow. Crafting an occasional Shining Silver Breastplate/Ornate Mithril Boots/Patterned Bronze Bracers is also good.

For a new player, Blacksmithing is an absolute trap. From a roleplaying standpoint, being able to craft your own armor and weapons sounds amazing, but in practice it simply isn't viable. It's just one of those professions you kinda want to keep on an alt just because.

But yeah, it's not just FR gear and Lionheart; there are tons of rare moneymakers out there. I personally made a lot of gold crafting 瑟銀盾刺 (mainly sells to Paladins, sorry hordies!) and 鋼質武器鍊.
