Welcome to Wowhead's Phase 2 Best in Slot Gear list for Protection Warrior Tank in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Gear in this guide is primarily obtained from Ulduar. This guide will list the recommended gear for your class and role, containing gear sourced from raids, dungeons, PvP, professions, BoE World drops, and reputations.
Best in Slot Gear for Protection Warrior Tank in Phase 2
Phase 1 confirmed that threat is hardly a concern for the Protection
战士
in Wrath of the Lich King Classic thanks to its new and improved toolkit.
On the other hand, a first look at
奥杜尔
on PTR, and especially the
pre-nerf
— and in some cases even
buffed
—
hard modes
showed that tank damage is greatly increased in the next raid. A welcomed change after a boring stroll in
纳克萨玛斯
, but also a scary prospect when we realize that
hits three times harder than

, the previous benchmark for DTPS.
For this reason, I have reduced the threat skew when comparing items for this phase 2 Best in Slot gear guide to prioritize survivability. The traditional
Balanced set
still aims for hit and expertise caps for consistency and pull variance, but includes more shared items with the
Mitigation set
aimed to reduce your chances of death against

Keep in mind that gearing your Protection
战士
highly depends on your raiding environment. While I may recommend mostly defensive gear sets that will fit the majority of players, only you can know what kind of threat is needed in your raid. If your guild requires a
higher threat ceiling
to withstand the pressure from high-performing damage dealers, then feel free to mix in threat-oriented items to find the
balance
between threat and survival that works best for
your
group. But first, make sure your rotation is on point with this Rotation and Cooldowns guide!
2 pieces:
Increases the critical strike chance of your Devastate ability by 10%.
4 pieces:
Shield Block also grants you 10% reduction to magical damage taken.
The increased critical chances on

makes running 2 pieces of T8 very appealing for additional threat and damage, all the while still wearing mitigation-focused items. The
shoulders
and
chest
are already BiS as standalone items anyway, so the set bonus is a nice... bonus.
The
4-piece bonus
however is a niche one since it ony reduces magic damage taken. The T8
gloves
and
legs
pale in comparison to the ilvl 252 off-sets dropping from hard modes which means unlocking the 4p bonus comes with a substantial stats loss, only worth considering for a handful of encounters with high magic damage burst.

focuses on damage reduction and Effective Health to increase your survivability against the most threatening encounters of phase 2.

The
Balanced Set
aims at reaching hit and expertise caps for pull variance and smooth threat generation, with the smallest mitigation trade-offs possible.

for progression, and overall good value per emblem.

also has a good upgrade per emblem value, but you may prefer the crafted

if you can afford it, that is basically on par with the phase BiS.
The

are worse than the reasonably accessible T8 pieces in these slots, let alone ilvl 252 off-sets, and a poor upgrade per emblem value overall. I recommend against buying them, unless you're terribly unlucky with drops after a couple of months.

is slightly better overall than the 25-man T8

due to its superior strength and better secondary stats, but you will still want both eventually to unlock the option to swap to a
4p T8 bonus
set for magic heavy encounters.
The

is an excellent threat-oriented helmet thanks to its huge expertise, as long as you are below the hard cap (14%). Especially useful before you collect all these ilvl 252 items from hard modes that make up for most of the expertise in the final BiS set.
Alternatively, the
征服者的突围头盔
is also an interesting threat choice, albeit more extreme and arguably overkill. You will lose quite a lot of survivability and have to balance the missing defense elsewhere, but, if paired with the
T8 Fury legs
in a threat-oriented set, this will let you unlock the
2-pieces Fury set bonus
which grants an almost permanent
haste buff
for a tank.

are one of the few ilvl 252 hard-mode items designed for tanks and therefore an instant BiS due to their superior item budget. These gloves specifically are miles ahead when it comes to mitigation score thanks to the perfect combination of secondary stats.
In the meantime, the

are a decent pick to unlock the T8 set bonuses early, and with hit rating on top.
As a threat alternative, Horde players, without

nor

, can consider using the

for additional hit and expertise if paired with the
T8 Fury legs
in a threat-oriented set. The two items together will unlock the
2-pieces Fury set bonus
which grants an almost permanent

The other rings mentionned below are all in the same ballpark stat wise yet still decent upgrades over phase 1 rings while you wait for the perfect duo of rings.

After a disappointing phase 1 with a single noteworthy trinket out of three raids, phase 2 finally brings substantial upgrades to the pre-raid trinkets.

are huge EHP upgrades, paired with decent avoidance on-use that can be used a pseudo defensive cooldowns. They are the best trinkets against both physical and magical damage so real no-brainers for this phase.

is an okay trinket for raw avoidance if you're a big fan of solo-ing content, but still worse than the trusty

for EHP primarily and every other intricate metrics used to calculate survivability. When it comes to mitigating physical damage, it's basically on par with

, considered mathematically impossible before a lot of Ulduar upgrades so this one may take a while to acquire...
In the meantime,

, from the much more accessible 10-man
hard mode, is a close second choice. It comes with slightly more mitigation value despite the lower item budget thanks to superior raw stamina and loses only to Sarthalis in the threat department. This would be my go-to pick for a more survivability-oriented alternative weapon to enchant with

for encounters where tank survival is a primary concern, such as

Interestingly enough, none of the tank weapons come with a combination of 3 mitigation secondary stats but all have either hit rating or expertise.

enthusiasts are out of luck in P2. The only new axes are either PvP weapons or a mediocre 10-man axe, both slow and significant downgrades compared to

discord so... Let's pretend they don't exist to avoid temptation.

There is a major downside to this guide as well not including the BV setup at all. This seems like a major oversight and just like the p1 BiS from the same user resulted in less DPS than real world BV setups and much higher damage intake versus bosses it was advantageous on.

with the bis items plus gems and chants you're only at 152 hit rating you need 263 hit rating to be hit soft cap of 8% and with the same bis items you're at 250 expertise rating but you only need like 165 expertise rating with the talent and if you're human its 140 expertise rating to be expertise cap of 26

Any chance we can get the guide navigation enhanced to quickly navigate to specific slots like legs, chest, feet, etc.. such as the fury guide for example? would be useful to quickly tab out and look up a specific piece during a run.
Also is it still worth it to gem dodge rating instead of parry rating even after the dodge fixes? I feel like parry also you gives you more frequent swings due to parry haste so could have a slight edge over dodge but I am not sure which is why I am asking.
