Welcome to Wowhead's Best in Slot Gear list from Phase 5 Sunwell Plateau for Affliction Warlock DPS in The Burning Crusade Classic. This guide will list the recommended gear for Affliction Warlock DPS to acquire while they progress during the fifth and final phase of The Burning Crusade Classic, which contains gear sourced from Sunwell Plateau, Zul'Aman, Black Temple, and Mount Hyjal, plus other pieces from previous phases like Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, heroic dungeons, arena PvP Gear, professions, BoE World Drops, and reputations.
Best In Slot Gear for Affliction Warlock DPS in Phase 5
When gearing, there is a multitude of different things to consider; different talent specializations, your currently equipped gear, and your raid composition all play a key part. Perhaps the biggest deciding factor of them all is Hit rating - having too much or too little Hit rating from either talents, gems, or buffs will result in you swapping in different pieces of gear or gems to reach the relevant Hit cap. You can learn more about stat caps and priorities by visiting the Warlock Stat Priority Guide, but here are some important things to note:
Hit cap is determined by the level of the target, with level 73 raid bosses requiring +16% chance to Hit, whilst level 70 trash mobs require only +3%.
You should typically gear for bosses, but it may be worthwhile to have a specialized setup for clearing trash.
The amount of Hit gems you use, such as

Draenei grant 1% Hit to their party through

for a total of 101 Spell damage (121 with their T4), +3% Crit, and +3% Hit. It's worth remembering that all Alliance Shamans are Draenei.

Improved Shadow Bolt and Incinerate
The time of

and wings is still here! This bonus flat out increases our

by 6%. To put this in perspective this is roughly equal to more than 100 Spell Power, or more than double as good as four-piece Tier 4, or three-piece Spellfire!
In the current phase, the items we use to get out the four-piece bonus switch around slightly.

are the three new tier 6 items. Not only are they great ways to get our set bonus, but they also are BIS independent of the set bonus.
This means we only need one other piece of our previous tier 6. On paper

is the best option for this, alternatively

is also really close. The best items used in combination with either is
黑暗咒术之环
(in combination with T6 shoulders) or
唤魔师护肩
(together with T6 helm). Alternatively, you can also opt to keep using your

and make use of both

, the benefit is not needing
灾难护腿
, albeit at the cost of a tiny bit of damage.
Professions

each have their own unique items this phase. Sadly we can not have more than 2 professions at a time, this leaves us having to make a choice. If we are looking to maximize our DPS

will always take up one of these slots due to
. This leaves us with one more profession to pick.
Whilst

is really strong it is not better than the available raid alternative. That being said it can be used until you get it. If you are going to use engineering come to WoTLK there is little reason to swap out the profession only for Sunwell Plateau.
This leaves us with the choice between

). First off, both option is technical BIS setups are incredibly close, which makes this mostly a case of preference accounting for your current profession/future WoTLK profession. That being said,

(in combination with

which has some hit rating) on it makes it the slightly better option for Horde, whereas
阳炎坠饰
(in combination with
魔能征服者外衣
) is stronger for Alliance and raid trash.
Wrath of the Lich King
For professions going into Wrath of the Lich King, you will most likely want to use

for Cloak of Embroidery (+295 Spell Power Proc enchant) for all specs in PVE. With

coming in clutch for all specs with a 340 Haste on-use enchant and other utilities, whilst
Demonology
might want to consider

instead of Engineering due to providing more (+48) spell power thanks to unique gems, which is incredibly valuable for the raid thanks to Demonic Tactics buff.
Gems
For gemming, you will want to use these slots to balance out your Hit and reach your meta requirement. Most often it is not worthwhile to get the gem bonus unless it is a spell damage bonus or Spell Hit bonus. For more in-depth info on gems, see the Gem Guide. Items marked with Blue gems mostly mean these have a good gem bonus to slot a blue gem to obtain your Meta bonus.
Red and Yellow Gems
With phase three we got access to epic gems.

should be used if they are required for a socket bonus. It also is beneficial to use them in slots that carry over to your AoE set if applicable.
Blue Gems
For blue gem requirements, you will want to consider one of the following:

Aldor vs. Scryer
The choice between Aldor and Scryer for Warlocks
does not matter in the grand scheme of things
. You should most likely base this on personal preference such as elevator type, location, profession trainers, tabard style, etc... more about this
here.
By this phase, you most likely have better items than the available ones from these factions and made your choice long ago.
Faction Enchants
奥尔多
has the better enchant. Although still really close in value of the Scryer enchant.

The difference is about a 1 to 2 DPS difference compared to each other, which is a neglectable difference. Sapphiron drops

Faction Neck

is a special neck that changes proc based on Faction alignment. This neck only becomes available by phase 5, and independent of the Faction chosen there are better alternatives available, so you aren't missing out on anything.
The choice is either between

which brings early gearing flexibility, or
奥尔多
for an insignificantly better shoulder enchant. Whatever your choice is, it is the right one.
Aldor vs Scryer Guide
Badges of Justice
There are a lot of new items that you can buy with

. None of these are stronger than the gear that drops in this raid tier. However, they are on par with Phase three and four gear. Means they can work well as catch-up gear if you don't have certain pieces yet. The most notable are

if you do not have T6 for those slots.
The best thing this Phase to do with badges will be buying the Epic gems you need for your gear, mostly

Body Armor for Warlock DPS in Phase 5
Head
There are two predominant options when it comes to helm (and shoulder combinations). In theory,

combined with

is slightly stronger compared to
凶星头巾
plus

. In practice, the difference is negatable and won’t show up in your logs. The only other notable difference between both (combinations) is a difference of 5 Hit Rating which might be something to keep in mind based on the rest of your gear.
This phase also introduces an upgrade for engineering goggles the

. It is equally as strong as

but without any of the Hit Rating, opening up other gearing possibilities. It can be a really strong option going into phase 5 until you get

Trash. Most of this trash is most commonly skipped. Whilst the recipe is BoE and as such can be traded/sold on the Auction House, the craft itself is BoP. All this will result in a rather expansive chest that beholds is not even the technical best combination of items, albeit incredibly close.

is slightly stronger than the combination of

. However, note that both depend on rare trash drop recipes. Another honorable mention is

The amount of crit rating the warlock has at the moment of casting will determine the crit rate of the DoT for the entire duration it is up (including refreshes). Having a high crit weapon you can swap out of after casting corruption can be a great bonus to deal some extra damage with one of your strongest spells. That being said, the weapon also is great on its own in this phase.
