This is a slight upgrade to The Restrained Essence of Sapphiron
. It is currently the best caster trinket in the game as it has a passive Equip bonus of spell damage as well as a 2 minute (spammable) use feature to increase spell damage.
The use animation is the same as for Zandalarian Hero Charm:
If you are a caster and your guild does raid Karazhan or harder instances I strongly recommed going for this trinket over anything else. There are much better cloaks and rings, and there isn't a trinket that is comparable to this that drops before Magtheridon's Lair.
This is an excellent trinket for Post BC Players or players who never made it to Naxxaramas.
Will the damage increase buff from this item stack with an item such as Xiri's Gift? I remember they nerfed useable trinkets (ZHC and ToEP) stacking at level 60, and I wonder if that is still the case with this item.
Slightly buffed in Patch 2.1:
Gained 1 extra spell damage to equip part, and 2 spell damage to use abbility.
The "activation" ability equates to about +22 damage (at max use)
20 sec use, 120 sec cooldown - thats means at constant activation, you will be using it 14% of the time. 14% of 155 = 22
I think this is a very very good thing for aff locks becasue u put dots at the first time for +155+45(200) and at the end of the 20 sec of the trinket u put again dots !!!! so about 40secs with +200 dots and 20 sec with +200 Shadowbolts!!!!! thats GreAt
Hex Shrunken Head
is the next upgrade from the Icon. It has more passive +damage and a better Use as well. It drops from Hex Lord Malacrass in Zul'Aman.
The only thing this trinket is missing is +hit, which can be found on the Scryer's Bloodgem, Arcanist's Stone, or the Skull of Gul'dan (From BT, obviously). In my opinion, this is slightly more useful for trash, where +Hit doesn't matter as much.
This trinket's Use effect stacks with the
Use effect. Both trinkets can be used at the same time.
If you're reluctant to spend 41 badges on this, the Brewfest (from 20 September till 4 October) will give you the opportunity to obtain
Dark Iron Smoking Pipe
, which has exactly the same stats and use effect.
In an 'average' scenario, the on-use damage averages out to 25,8 bonus damage. This is roughly what you'll get during a long boss fight if you put it in a macro to use it as soon as the cooldown is up. Note that this assumes that the trinket comes off cooldown again the second the boss dies, so in practice you'll get a bit more. The shorter the boss fight is, the more difference this will make (picture a 30 second fight and you'll see what I mean; you'd get an average of 103 damage. In a one minute fight you'd get 52 damage).
Any reasonably predictable breaks in dps will also increase the benefit gained, since the cooldown keeps ticking during phase transitions and movement. Unpredictable movement such as "don't stand in the fire" will negate this since you might have to move while the buff is up.
Using the trinket tactically will result in even better results, though they're harder to calculate. Activating it during effects like Bloodlust/Heroism, mages' Icy Veins, or trolls' Berserking will of course increase the benefit gained since you'll be able to cast more spells during those 20 seconds. A fire mage activating the trinket as a boss reaches 20% would also benefit more due to Molten Fury.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, i'd really love this on my spelldmg pally :X
Very nice, 42 base damage is already a lot, +153 more on demand for a whole 20 seconds on only a 2 min cool down is very powerful. One of the best spell damage trinkets in the game no doubt.
has the zg caster trinket animation, kinda like the arcane int buff red eye thingy
just got this a week ago. It has a different 'activation' graphic than the other +damage trinkets, and the constant 42 Spelldamage is very nice too!
The best way to farm the 41 required Badges... from what I have been through... is to run Heroic Mechanar often. As far as heroics go it is fairly easy and you get 5 Badges per full run (one each from the two mini-bosses and one each from the 3 main bosses).
pay attention! , its 20 seconds not 15 as usual
20 seconds is nice. and 42 +dmg/healing without the use!
but 41 marks.... ewwwwwwww
This is 8 mechanar runs + 1 more. Totally doable.
If it's 20s duration it's 2min cd, if it's 15s duration it's 1.5min cd. At least that's valid on all trinkets of that kind I've seen, duration*6=CD.
I don`t know if it is thottbot who creates the item level. I think blizzard designs the item level and i also think the guys desighning the items are much less involved in the gameplay than players doing heroic runs nowadays
sorry for the piguin english, im a kraut:)
Which would be better? The Icon or Quagmirran's Eye? (
I am keeping Xiri's Gift on (
)., As a fire mage, I want a trinket for damage and a trinket for crit. So the question is, do I want a second +dmg cooldown or the proccing spell haste?
I'm thinking the Eye.
Does this trinket stack with Zandalarian Hero Charm? ( the ZG trinket)
As an affliction warlock, I add this to my DoT macro so it is almost always up besides the 1:40 seconds it's not doing anything/on CD.
Haste rating is as good as your mana pool.
End game raids haste rating will only make you oom faster.
Icon of the Silver Crescent: 20/120 * 155 = 25.8 + 43 (Passive) = 68.8 sp. This gets replaced by ZA's "Hex Skrunken Head", which is a 32% increase (88.2 sp).
