Just to be CLEAR, you get to this quest objective from within the camp (don't run down and around the side of the valley or jump off the edge as I did as there's no easy way back up from the water!) From within the camp, take the small bridge (27.5, 25.1) over the valley to where you'll find a cave and the mob to kill.

Am I the only one having trouble with this quest? I'm a level 85 rogue and pretty much finding it impossible to solo. I get him down to the point where he turns into the sha, but by that point my health is pretty low and for some reason he pretty much just one shots me and it's all over. Frustrating as hell.

So apparently right now on Darkspear this quest is glitched. He is just floating there in elemental form with half health. No one can attack him and it will not reset the quest.

Once the quest is completed... you turn it in at the airfield with the Gyrocopters. There is a tall flag pole there flying an Alliance flag. Turn in the quest by right-clicking on the flag pole, and it will become a Horde flag.

Coordinates for flag pole are 27.59 x 24.33....

I also found Doren evade bugged when I got to this quest. I thought I'd surely have to wait for a GM response to get anything done, but a friend of mine had the great idea of trying to group up cross realm to see if he was working on a different realm.

All you need to do is get an invite from someone on a different server, and unless Doren is bugged on that server too, then you'll be able to complete the quest and move on.

For melee classes:
When he is in human form watch out for his Bladestorm, just kite him around.

When in the second (Sha) form, he will be stationary and when he starts to spew fumes you have to run around him in a circle

It took me three times to complete this. When he transforms into Sha form, make sure you are just inside the cave or it will reset.

Also BIG WARNING! If he resets, or you die, watch out for the guards outside. I Backed up and had the two guards plus the captain. Was not fun!

I failed at this 3 times with my Windwalker monk, so gave it a try switching over to Brewmaster, which was a walk in the park. I suggest you switch if WW is giving you fits.

I'm finding this pretty much impossible as an 85 fury warrior. 8 or 9 deaths now. It's really disappointing that blizzard have &*!@ed up the balance this badly honestly. If you're a class without reliable self-heals, I would strongly suggest you don't bother attempting Pandaria until you've run a few heroics and gotten some good gear. The npcs constantly attack in big groups and pile into fights, leaving you no way to kill them all, and the bosses are all very tough - some, like this one, are simply impossible solo for some classes, it seems.
I have popped every cooldown I have, tried defensive stance, hiding out of LOS round the corner and bandaging - no success. Item level 327 if anyone's wondering. The first phase is just about survivable, and once you get him down to half half you have a brief period to heal up, but unless you're playing a class with natural heals you'll probably be going into the second phase with a little over half health. You can't use food, and bandages won't heal more than that. You'll also be without cooldowns since you already used them all. This generally results in you getting raped by the breath in three seconds flat.
I suppose I'll be forced to drop a couple of thousand gold on a shield and switch to Prot just for this one &*!@ty quest. It certainly isn't doable as-is.

I found it difficult for my Frost DK. It was easy for my mage, priest and warrior.

I had to switch to Blood to kill Doren. Otherwise, it was frustrating, getting owned as a Frost DK.

Here are some helpful tips to my fellow Rogues out there.

1. if you are using Subtelty dont forget that you got Shadow Dance that will make killing him so much easier with all the stuns and such

2. Evasion Recuperate and Kick is also very effective

3. use the Shiv effect that will heal you for about 4k hp

4. try to avoid the the Bladestorm in the beginning by using Sprint also kill the guards outside the cave so you will get much more space to move around

5. When he goes in to Sha form he will puke out some kind of gas, then you should just spinn around while you keep stabbing him also kill the guards outside the cave so you will get much more space to move around

Level 85 shadow priest. I followed the advice of running around the cave in a circle while he did his spinning blades, It worked like a charm. I highly suggest it.

So I have Captain Doren at half health, and then nothing... No spell, no attack, nothing could kill him? very frustrating indeed.

30 minutes after reporting the issue, Blizz fixed for me... thanks Blizzard!

Two of the three times I have attempted to complete this quest, the NPC, Captain Doren, is glitched and I was unable to attack him. I put in a ticket and Blizzard responded within 20 mins and asked me to logout briefly and they completed the quest for me. Not the ideal fix but I was able to move on with my quest chain!

OK I've got a lvl 85 rogue and I can not get this guy! I've tried running and every other trick I could think of and I still can't kill him. My Hunter had no problem with him and was able to carry on to lvl 90, but my poor little rogue is going to have to get a group to help him. I have a squishy Druid on my alliance server and he never had a problem getting to levl 90. My question is, Why would they put a full stopping block for us squishy hoard players who are simple solo players? I became so disgusted with the game that I quit playing for 2 weeks!

To get to him,you dont necessarily have to fight your way back through the entire camp.You can mount,run through the camp,across the bridge,and to the cave.The train will deagro when you reach the cave.Then all you have to do is kill the 2 guards outside.Just try not to pile on anyone if theyre around though.

After running around for twenty minutes to a half an hour (after coming here) I decided to post about it.

The beginning to the bridge is at 27.4 25.1 it is inside the Alliance Camp pretty much across the camp from Corporal Jackson Silver who is in a shed like structure at 27.9 23.3.

Cross the bridge and the cave is obvious on the other side on the right hand side. There are two guards posted outside. You can pull them one at a time. Then go inside the cave and kill him. He has two phases and can be challenging at level 85. You may want to try to get to Halfhill and talk with Trader Jambeezi

He sells a complete set of 372 gear. I noticed someone in another comment said that that they were at ilvl 327.

I was able to do this on my first try as a subtlety rogue. It was pretty darn hard and i had to use every trick i had in my pockets. It didn't help at all that i was fresh level 85 with 98k health.

Poisons:
Deadly poison
Leeching poison

Before the fight:
I killed the guards outside to get full slice and dice and recuperate (5 combo points each).

The actual fight:
Started off with a Sap to get behind him. Used for 2 combo points and then started the fight with a Cheap Shot. Quick Backstab for 5th combo point and then Rupture. Spam couple of Backstabs more for another 5 combo points and use Crimson Tempest. Now, all you need to do is refresh your slice and dice and recuperate if they're low. Other than that, the dots should deal huge amount of damage and get him to 50% health before you're dead (Use your normal rotation for this part, you can also use your shadow dance at this point if he isn't close to 50% health). If he starts hard casting some of his spells, use kidney shot to prevent him from doing that. Doesn't matter if it's 1 point kidney or 5 point kidney. As long as you get him to stop. If there's enough time for him to use his bladestorm, use evasion and smoke bomb. You'll barely take any damage from it.

Once he goes in to his sha form, it's easy after that. Recuperate can easily keep you alive and if he starts doing that spell where he spits something out and does a circle, just go behind him and backstab as much as possible. Use shadow dance if you didn't use it in the first phase or if it's already out of cooldown.

Here is how I finally beat Captain Doren with a Level 85 Combat Rogue with Level 85 gear purchased from the AH and Panaria quest rewards up to this point. Before this I was constantly getting killed by him or having to vanish out of combat. I came on here and found the strategy of running in circles to avoid his spinning attack, but I did worse when trying to do that. I then started experimenting with different combinations and found a particular way to get him down to where he transforms every time, but by that time I didn’t have enough health to defeat him from there. I didn’t know why I didn’t think of how to get more health after he transformed sooner, but I figured that out and was able to defeat him.

Preparation:
- Go to an AH and buy a Master Healing Potion that restores 120,000 health.
- Go to the Inn Keeper in Honeydew Village and buy Roasted Barley Tea.
- Drink the tea long enough to gain the extra 100 mastery.
- Coat your blades with Deadly Poison and Crippling Poison (I don’t have Leaching Poison).

The Fight:
1. Stealth into the cave and get up on that table behind him.
2. Hit him with Ambush…then
3. Garrote
4. Combat Readiness
5. Evasion
6. Adrenaline Rush
7. Sinister Strike
8. Slice and Dice
9. Sinister Strike to get 5 combo points
10. Rupture
11. Sinister Strike to get 4 combo points
12. Eviscerate
13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until you get him to transform
14. As soon as you are able pop the potion (this got me back to 100% health)
15. Repeat steps 7 – 13 until you kill him.

During the fight there is no running required. Just go toe to toe with him. I hope this helps.

Lvl 85, iLvl311, Frost Mage.
I used Mirror Image, Icy Veins, Time Warp, Frozen Orb, Nether Tempest, Frost Bolt. Ice Lane & Frostfire Bolt on procs. Used Temporal Shield towards the beginning. Ended up down about half health, but pulled it off. Just keep your distance as much as possible. I stayed at back of cave so as not to aggro guards (sneaked in with Greater Invisiblity, cuz I didn't want to fight them.) Got him on the first attempt, so definitely do-able. And I'm squishy as heck.

Since I'm having trouble with my squishy druid... I skipped the booger and ran to Dawns Blossom instead, got a quest to go to Tian Monastery...and I'm going from there.
I'll come back later when I have better gear and spank him, but right now, at 85...heck no.
I do think they should scale him down a bit. It's not fun to get stuck on one darn quest.

But yeah, if you can't beat him, head to Tian or Dawns Blossom and carry on from there. No point getting beat up if you can avoid it.

Crushing doubt is another ability missed by the stat squish. Make sure you interrupt this or it is probably instagib.

as a feral druid this is how I beat him.

Start out with a lunge from cat form and just tear strips out of him.. avoid all spinny red bladed moves.

once he pushes you away pop bear form as soon as you can.. and kite in a circle.. so that you a. dont get hit with one hit kill fog.. and b. you dont stand there, just incase he does it again where you happened to be standing.

kite kite kite.. soon he dies.. some blather from the horde guy in charge of horde there. then go out and click the flagpole..

Well, as of 7.3.5, this is completely un-doable. At least for my Sub Rogue. Loving the freedom of where to go, but buffing all the mobs was BS.

1. Burn him down till he changes to Sha.
2. Most deadly (now i die laughing) spell, Crushing Doubt.. just hide behind him! the spell is directional.. :b So when it casts, just go around it and whack it!

(i died 3 times just to figure out this. i was laughing when i realised how easy it was.. i guess it was nerf?.. :P)

This quest is currently bugged. When I got to the boss it was already in Sha form at half life and evading all attacks.

I just did this on a Disc Priest and Brewmaster Monk. Not only did I do worse on the latter (it was that breath attack), he disappeared. So, I had to abandon this quest and reaccept it. I did at least put in a bug report since enemies are supposed to reset to full health.
