Still remains bugged in the live patch. Can't hand it in. Some reported that they can. May depend on how you defeat the boss.

Managed to get it done on live server. Make sure you redeem all the spirits of Taran Zhu on the way to the boss (the floating panda body on the floor in a circle of light). Also we killed all hatefull essence in the boss area before he died and the quest got complete. (our second try to get the quest done).

Hope it works, would love to get it confirmed.

Still bugged after today's resets. Our group remained stuck in combat for the last part of the dungeon and as such I could not get mana back (blew some cooldowns so we could actually start the boss) and we could not loot the chest after the last boss. Those of us on the quest could not turn it in. Taran Zhu is there, kneeling, with a quest marker but nothing happens on right-click.

You will get out of combat (and thus be able to loot the chest) if you run around and kill all those purple orbs in the boss area.. However I have not discovered a fix yet for turning in the quest. :\

I turned in this quest with no issues. As soon as we killed the boss he turned friendly and I was able turn in. Garithos US

Did not get credit for this - are you meant to do something in particular? Others in the group got credit.

Confirming I was unable to turn this in on Lightbringer (US) yesterday. After the last fight Taran Zhu was kneeling near the entry way (for this fight) but didn't have a question mark.

The quest turn-in marker on the mini-map showed somewhere near the loot chest. Just to be sure I killed the remaining orbs in the area, but that didn't work. Hopefully they fix this one soon.

I did get the achievement for completing the instance.

Possible fix:

Was bugged for me too during the first run through, and I tried everything suggested on this page.

I ended up being able to complete it the next time I was given Shadow-pan via random dungeon finder. Had to complete the fight again, but was able to turn it in as soon as we "beat" Taran Zhu.

This is not a bug. If one of the Hatred orbs are engaged, they WONT go out of combat. Make sure to kill every orbs, before getting to the last boss. Completed this dungeon 10 times, without a single bug, and when we where stuck in combat, we just killed the orbs behind us. Fixed it.

To complete this you must save all FIVE souls from the bodies BEFORE you kill the boss. Four of the bodies are along the path, but one of the bodies is behind a group of mobs that you can easily skip. This group is right outside of the temple, before the little island that leads to the boss. Kill that group, save the souls, then kill the boss. Booyah.

saved all 5 souls, killed all the orbs, cannot turn in quest. When I clicked on him the quest window popped up for a split second then disappeared and wouldn't come back. we looted chest and got achiev but no quest turn-in

Frustrating, one of these daft quests that you have to google to find out that you can't get it and only realize after you've finished. The blue quest reward and half million xp won't be yours this time.

You then go back and travel around the big instance fruitlessly. The end point with the ? is shut off from you.

Then you come to a page like this and wonder why they STILL make quests like this.

What seemed to work for my group was defeating him outside of the little shrine. We didn't clear all the spirits on the successful handin run.

Still bugged in 5.1. Also, saved all 5 souls and still no credit.
I have been able to complete this on other characters in various patches. Seems pretty random when it does give you credit and when it doesn't.

Blizz, when will fix this? There's so many quests just like this one that aren't bugged.
We know you can do it right... so, do it, and stop frustrating the crap out of us, please :)

OK I'm a believer~! Usually it'll say something like 'number of players suggested' or something but, with the rock's safety buff n my Rogue's stealth, I walked about 5 feet towards the 1st warden n it's over...dead me. Thought maybe I should've gone right or left n tried again but, same result. 3rd time I tried my Vanish buff for extra stealth n NOPE. Anyway, don't bother if you don't have at least 3 helpers, IMHO.

The quest says free Taran Zhu of the sha. Not free this or that soul. I hate quests with unspecified requirements. Battle ticket on this the GameMaster first told me "havent completed the quest." The second complaint I get referred me here. Sheesh. What a crock.

5.2 here. Quest still bugged. Says it's not completed. No ? above Taran Zhu.

It's really disturbing to come here for help and find that a quest has been broken for like A YEAR and Blizzard still hasn't fixed it.

I mean, really? Do they just think this isn't important?

Did the quest today. During my first run we didn't free all the souls. The quest log said the quest was complete but i couldn't turn in the quest.

I opened a GM ticket. The GM explained you need to free all the souls to be able to turn in the quest. (The quest doesn't mention this).

Did a second run after that and freed all the souls. This time I could turn in the quest.

This is how I did. After accepting a quest, click the Dungeon Finder tool from my menu right down and choose Shado-Pan Monastery. After starting the instance, need to go through all three buildings (go out and go in to the building) and defeat three bosses and couple other npcs. After defeat boss: Sha of Violence then you need to go outside, across the bridge and meet the last boss: Taran Zhu <Lord of the Shado-Pan>. After defeating him then you see the complete quest sign over his head.

After note: I need to redo this instance 3 times. At the first try, group stop at the Sha of Violence and did not go next boss because no one knew there was a last boss next to it. At the second try, I died right before the Taran Zhu<Lord of the Shado-Pan> and did not have a chance to submit a quest in. At the third try, finally I made till end and I was able to submit quest to complete. The confusion here is even you had not complete a quest, you will see complete quest sign on your quest log and tried to fly over to meet Taran Zhu<Lord of the Shado-Pan> outside of instance. But in truth, you need to meet him inside the instance to submit the quest in. Also the next confusion is that you get the Achievement even you don't complete this quest. This quest won't complete till you defeat the last boss: Taran Zhu <Lord of the Shado-Pan> and submit a quest to complete. By the way, I didn't see all(?) five souls were released while going over the final bridge but one or two(? I did not confirm) souls were released and quest were still completed.
