The one who designs toys can only described as evil. What bugs me about toys are the random durations and cooldowns. Like the shadow effect from the toy after you fought your looooooooooong way through all pet dungeons. It lasts less than 20 seconds and has a five minute cooldown. Then there is a toy introduced back in cata, just sitting on the ground, in the ocean, which lasts for an hour with one second cooldown. It turns us into a pirate gnome. Other transforming toys have 30min cooldown, another has one hour, another has two hours and the durations are from 30 seconds to ten minutes to .And now we got to this point where this duck toy is from a small quest chain only available once a year. Its not even special compared to most toys. So the arbitrary decision to make it doable only once a year to unlock one part of it fits with the arbitrary durations and cooldowns from the entire toy collection. This isnt about entitlement. This is purely about design decisions and its impact. Its *!@#ing dumb and evil. This is why some people cant be allowed to keep the same job in a company and should be rotated so they cant harm the customers on a regular basis. At some point blizzard should notice how either incompetent or malicious some devs are. And every customer aka player is currently telling them they are doing a bad job considering the past.
Don't mind, why do you need them all? make it a bit special with people needing to pick and stick with one.
That is 1/3 of their 20 year plan.
If they really wanted the time-gating, how hard would it have been to make the quest a once-per-account quest, and unlock the chosen color account-wide? Then they get their stupid time-gating without the idiocy of an account-wide toy that doesn't work at all on alts unless you repeat the questline.I can't be bothered to care about the toy itself. It's more the principle of the fact that something, however small, was designed with such complete and thorough idiocy that rankles. If I had any hand in making or approving this design, I would be mortified to look someone in the eye and admit it.
Crappy game design...
If I'm alive I can get them all.
.
i'm glad I don't care about collecting duck colours, I really pity those who do
So this is evergreen content in 2024, huh.
Rember the time when you needed 4 years minimum to complete all Childrens Week Achievment since you could only get one pet each year and the achievment was not Account Wide?Yeah i remember that time and i didnt care.Like if its something so important to have all colors for a toy that you might not use after a few weeks at all :-D
(assuming you have this year's colour, 5 to go)Between today and Easter 2029 - 1824 days, or ~60 months For some context - Vanilla release date (07/Nov/2004) until Wrath 3.3 release (08/Dec/2009, Icecrown Citadel is opened) is 1857 days.60 months @ $12.99 US per month (at a nice 6 month bulk sub price) : ~$780 (assuming no price in sub changes)Of course, you don't have to be subbed for the next 5 years non-stop, but if you're the kind of person who cares about collecting toys like this, you're probably going to stay subbed. Longest other event/toy/thing I can think of is that achieve that required the pets for Children's Week (~730 days, after collecting your first pet)I might be crazy, but maaaaaaybe there's a better way to do things.
Heaven forbid we have things to work towards slowly!I only do Children's Week one one char so I am happily, slowly working through the pets from that. It's nice to have something to work on that isn't a grind and doesn't matter.
God, the worst part for me is going to be that I'm going to forget which character opened it in the first place, and inevitably waste a year or two. Ugh.
eww
If Blizzard's willing to waste our time with what is essentially a minor toy cosmetic, what's stopping them from pulling the same thing with other, more important aspects of the game (other than what they're already doing with time-gating)?
6 years huh... The Worldsoul demands we collect Ducksguises!
"Don't worry guys, once Kotick and Activision are gone Blizzard will go back to how they used to be!/Microsoft will turn things around!/Kotick is gone, that means they'll stop doing crappy stuff!" - Every delusional person who doesn't understand how businesses work, in the leadup to MS buying the company.Instead, they're just getting worse. Welcome to finding out that once rot sets in, it doesn't magically leave just because the instigator of that rot is removed. Also it's nice to see how little effort they put into revamping Noblegarden. Add a few simple quests, and a non-queueable boss with a ridiculously low drop rate on an ugly recolor of a 16 year old mount, this 6 year, per-character grind to complete a TOY, and a few new holiday-themed mogs that consist of a single hat model, and the rest are completely 2D textures wrapped on the character models like a vanilla item.(Not) looking forward to how rushed and low-effort the next three expansions are going to be.
