Judging on that it is called 'mantis' shrimp, no one has fished it up, and that there is a race called Mantid. More then likely you fish this up in the Dread Wastes. or at very least Townlong, along those 2 islands controlled by Mantid.

You can buy these in Halfhill Market, Valley of the Four Winds, from Nam Ironpaw. You get a bag of 5 for 1 Ironpaw Token.
You have to complete the 1st couple of cooking quests and then the 6 "Master of the ..." from Sungshin Ironpaw to open this npc up.

Edit: Can now be readily fished up from around Pandaria, along with other cooking ingredients such as Reef Octopus.
I like to fish the coastal areas of Krasarang as there are abundant swarm pools.

I found the small little island with the FP off the shore of the Arboretum (Jade Forest) not a bad fishing spot. I just fished in open water, actually for carp and got 11 Mantis, 10 Reef octopus, a box, and 7 carp

I fished these up from the river that borders Jade Forest and Valley of the four Winds. When I ran out of pools to fish from I just threw my line into the river. It gives you approximately a 1 in 4 chance to fish up either: Giant Mantis Shrimp, Reef Octopus, Golden Carp or a junk grey item.

You can find pools of these near saltwater along the coast of Jade Forest, Krasarang Wilds and possibly elsewhere.

Ella is located at either (31.6, 58.0) with her cats, or at Halfhill.

When you are level 90, if you have Shrimp Dumplings x5 in your pack she will offer you a daily to turn those in to her for rep.
One Shrimp Dumplings is made with Giant Mantis Shrimp x1
When you are level 90, her favourite gift is Jade Cat along with Fish Fellreed

Best Friends with Ella
When she is your Best Friend, Luna the cat will be on the farm.
She will also post you a Tree Seed Pack which has three tree seeds in it. These seeds grow a tree which you can then throw on the ground somewhere and watch it grow and look pretty for a few minutes before it disappears.

When you are exalted with the Tillers and Best Friends with Ella, she'll come and wander about your farm looking at things (and doing nothing really).
If she's at the market she will not come to your farm and you must wait for a day when she is at home with her cats.

Tied up with the new Pandaren cooking, and the Tiller's reputation are some individual "reputations" associated with ten npcs which are located around Halfhill and the Heartland in Valley of the Four Winds. All the information you could possibly want on farming and the associated reputations can be found in Perculia's guide. Note that there is more information if you scroll up.

These are found along the coast (but not in Townlong Steppes) and share fishing spots with Reef Octopus Swarm. If you're finding a ton of Reef Octopus pools, fish them up and hopefully you might get a Giant Mantis Shrimp Swarm to spawn.

I found the Dread Wastes to be a great spot to fish these: At the south western Isle (Zan'Vess) were three pools right next to each other.

Nayeli Lagoon in the Wilds was the best place I have found so far. I checked the river between Wilds and Jade Forest and had no luck. Only found Reef Octopus. Try the lagoon they are all over the place in pools.

You can get them from open water fishing on the coast also, but pools are your best bet.

If you go on the edges of the island Zan'Vess (witch is South in The Dread Wastes) and the southern coast there are allot of Giant Mantis Shrimp Schools I have fished for about 20 - 30 min. there and got around 50 - 60 shrimps in total. Probably the fastest way to farm these. Every school gives between 2 - 4 shrimps.

I just found around 8 - 9 Giant Mantis Shrimp pools all along the northern coast line of Kun Lai Summit. By far the best place I've found so far. Just be careful of the giant blue elite crabs... There seems to be at least one by every pool, but it's easy to fish there without aggroing them. :)

The majority of the pools are located off the south-eastern coast of The Jade Forest, around the small islands.

Final "T" of "Moonwater Retreat" on the map (Southeastern Jade Forest) is full of giant mantis shrimp swarm nodes along with reef octopus swarm nodes

Giant Mantis Shrimp share pool spawns with Reef Octopus.

As Giant Mantis Shrimp are usually more valuable, all of these pools get drained. This repeats until the vast majority of the spawns are for Reef Octopus. Therefore the best way to fish these up is usually just to fish in open water where either of these pools spawn, or be completely amazing and get rid of some of the Reef Octopus spawns for us.

I found it much easier to fish this in open waters. The place i had the best luck is in Jade forest on a floating board at 57,14. I averaged around 2 out of 5 catches were Giant Shrimp Mantis.

Good day all fish-farmers out there.

I've just got to share some of my frustration and what it lead to after wasted (yes spent 3-4 hours!) of "finding some stupid Giant Mantis Shrimp Schools.

Now what wowhead said i would really say is wrong becuse its not, but... i found a single spot where was a gold-heaven for me farming these although the spawn of the schools in this area is around (aprox) 15-30min respawn.
But the normal schools in this spot are always minimum of 5 to a maximum of 8 in the same spot.

Normaly you find this of any school of mantis in the sea of pandaria but... now i found the best spot (personal feeling).

and this spot is at the "Shan'ze Dao" in the Northwest corner in TOWNLONG STEPPES!.
on the (east - ear-tip looking area) where its a grey-dusty beach with dogs and some elites packed together.

Warning, if your not very close the water surface you will pull the mobs.
- I used Trap on my hunter, sap on rogue

And my common main character i used Zen Flight (can fish) while flying ^^

Now all i got to say I do hope this helps the fishermans, Good hunting!

There is a small rock coming out of the water just south of the Sri-La Village dock in Jade Forest. This spot has consistently (I've been there with 6 level 85's) given me 30% Giant Mantis Shrimp, 30% Reef Octopus, & 30% Golden Carp. The remaining 10% miscellaneous junk including Sealed Crates, filled with Darkmoon Faire goodies, and rare fish for quests with Pat Nagel.

If you want to farm them fairly quick, go to Sri-La Village in the Jade forrest. It is a fishing village and you can get a variety of picks from octopus to shrimp.

In 5.2, the daily event "Fish of the Day" will be added. One of the following nine locations will have this event going on. Each location has a specific type of fish that is quite plentiful to catch.

Woods of the Lost, The Jade Forest: Jade Lungfish. Special pools are called Glowing Jade Lungfish because Sprite Dragons shoot arcane bolts at them.
Fields of Niuzao, Townlong Steppes: Redbelly Mandarin. Special pools are called Crowded Redbelly Mandarin which makes sense due to the tiny pond they spawn in.
Stormstout Brewery, Valley of the Four Winds: Emperor Salmon. Special pools are called Brew-Frenzied Emperor Salmon, which makes sense based on their proximity to the brewery.
Krasari Falls, Krasarang Wilds: Krasarang Paddlefish. Special pools are called Swarm of Panicked Paddlefish, most likely due to the Goblin NPC throwing dynamite at them.
Mad Qao Pao, Vale of Eternal Blossoms: Jewel Danio. Special pools are called Glimmering Jewel Danio Pool, since Mad Qao Pao, a very blingy Pandaren, periodically makes wishes and throws coins into the pool.
Binan Village Coast, Kun-Lai Summit: Spinefish. Special pools are called Sha-Touched Spinefish and the water has an oily appearance.
Sri-La Village, The Jade Forest: Reef Octopus. Special pools are called Reef Octopus Swarm and baby octopus run around the docks.
Gokk'lok Shallows, Dread Wastes: Giant Mantis Shrimp. Special pools are called Tangled Mantid Shrimp Cluster, as "Stuffed shrimp" sharks and seagulls periodically eat them.
Master Snowdrift's Pagoda, Kun-Lai Summit: Tiger Gourami. Special pools are called Tiger Gourami Slush, and nearby trainees cast blue bolts at them.

Krakkanon (a large rare) comes out of the Large Tangled Mantis Shrimp Cluster in dread wastes at Gokk'loki Shallows. Seems to give 20 shirmp easy kill. Plus the reg tangled shirmp clusters are a nice fast stock up (when available). The Large Tagled Shirmp Cluster is at 26.4 / 16.2 and has a little raft for you to stand on as well. happy fishing

June 11, tuesday: On the shores just south of Sik'vess in Townlong Steppes, spotted 13 "Tangled Mantis shrimp" pools. Tested one once and a catch caught a mantis shrimp without despawning.

It isn't but a hundred feet north of Gokk'lokk (get his rare item while you are there) two NPCS, one of the 5 clam band elites (that gives a blue quality Agi fist weapon) and Shrimp Stuffed sharks (non-skinnable, dropped 1 G.Mantis Shrimp).

I've never heard of such a site, its the go to place if you care only for GM Shrimp.

This is a reagent for Black Pepper Ribs and Shrimp, which gives a 300 strength boost for 1 hour (requires level 90). This boost appears to stack with other non-food boosts, trinkets, etc.

I am a DPS, I am maxxed out with cooking and with fishing. This is the only one I still fish because it is a reagent for Black Pepper Ribs and Shrimp, which gives a 300 strength boost for 1 hour -- I believe it's the only thing that gives that much of a strength boost. There are other similar dishes for other stats unneeded by a DPS Retribution Paladin -- this is why I am glad I did the whole long cooking grind at Halfhill Village in central Valley of the Four Winds. The other reagents are Green Cabbage which you can grow, Mushan Ribs which you can farm (hint: NOT on monkey mountain or you will get kicked off the mountain or you might accidentally aggro EVERY MUSHAN AND GOAT which is not fun even without monkeys, but west of Halfhill Village around where Blackhoof spawns), and Black Pepper which can be bought with Ironpaw Tokens (or AH, if you are in a hurry and don't want to farm fish all day to exchange for them). I find it prudent to check with the fishing trainer Ben of the Booming Voice every morning (he is on the northeast bank of Halfhill, on the river bank, near the bridge going east, just northeast of the flight master) to see what today's Fish Of The Day event is. If it's shrimp, then I'll fire up Pandora and veg out to music while farming tons of prawns.

As an aside, if I had it to do over, I'd pay less attention to fishing and cooking until I got to Halfhill. Whatever your level is, it will be maxed out for both when you're done with Halfhill. And the various banquets for raiding that you learn at the very end, they actually come in handy sometimes.

These cooking buffs come in very handy to make up for bad stats until you are properly geared (say, if you are a DPS Ret Pal and need to get up to 7.5% on hit and expertise but weren't geared well enough just yet -- just stay buffed with whatever tasty dish brings your stat to a Noxxic-approved level). Now that I'm geared properly, this strength boost is ace. If you are not level 90 / if you need a different stat than strength (such as stamina) -- there are level 85 boosts that you can make or buy on AH (if you don't have a particular recipe yet) that give, say, 200 or 100 in your stat (mine is strength) for an hour. That's all very well documented on wowhead here, which is good because my Ambien is kicking in very shortly and I'm going to be incoherent in 10 minutes and unconscious in 20. Happy fishing / hunting / pillaging!

I'd also probably do Tillers concurrently with both the Anglers and the long Order of the Cloud Serpent grind just so you can get a pretty flying dragon that you will never use because you get motion sickness very easily. They all have dailies that overlap somewhat.

The south coast of the Krasarang Wilds is an absolute gold mine for Giant Mantis Shrimp and Reef Octopus, especially around the islands in the south west (Cradle of Chi-Ji).

Found a really nice spot with a lot of Giant Mantis Shrimp and Reef Octopus nodes continually spawning. It's right off the coast of the Jade Forest at the Sri-La Village (56,18). I spent about an hour here and nodes were popping up all over the place.
