was able to fish these up from the river between valley of the four winds and jade forest. I also got golden carp and jade lungfish. pretty much anywhere that you can cast your bobber so it lands in the Jade Forest works.

Comment by Daedredant

There are Redbelly Mandarin Schools in Vale of Eternal Blossoms spread out between the Jewel Danio Schools and Emperor Salmon Schools. I noticed the higher concentration of the schools seemed to be around Whitepetal Lake and south along the river. Handy for those trying to cap their cooking skill. (This was during Beta on 20Jul2012, so of course it is Subject to Change).

El's Extreme Anglin' says that the fastest method of catching Redbelly Mandarin is to fish Redbelly Mandarin School in The Jade Forest.

There's a nice fishing area to fish these in Vale of Eternal Blossoms at the Ancestral Rise which is in the Northwest corner of the map. Great area to farm these up.

Comment by twistedsista

I'd just like to say that I was personally getting frustrated with comments claiming "anywhere in the Jade Forest" without more specifics, so I'm going to give specifics: Pearlfin Village.

Here you will find more schools of Redbelly Mandarin and Jade Lungfish than you can poke a stick at, without having to chase the length and breadth of the Jade Forest.

Any of the pools around the village abound with schools if you're willing to work you way around and find them.

Comment by cazel

The schools for these seem to be more like at the end of the river to the south and at the lake northwest.
Between that i had more Jade Lungfish schools spawning.

Comment by 682481

Nobody else seems to have pointed this out yet: Redbelly Mandarin pools share spawn points with Jade Lungfish pools.

Comment by 998311

why do all these show the 'spell' in reagent for section? why not just show the food item that the cooking ingredient makes? It says right next to it what else it takes to make the food.. we really dont need the cooking spell under reagent for lol..

Comment by 1058994

These pools can appear in almost any zone, however, as of patch 5.1 the abundance of them, (that i found), seems to be in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. I spent over an hour and a half flying around in The Jade Forest tonight and i did not find a single Redbelly Mandarin pool/node, but i did find over 75 Jade Lungfish pools/nodes, (approx.)! *Should also mention that i didn't check any other zones for either type of fish at that time!

*Edit

Comment by Geordles

I gave up looking for pools. I found the best result randomly fishing the main river in the Jade Forest and got Redbelly Mandarin about 60% of the time.

Comment by Kittytreets

So, it sounds like I'm not the only one with the Redbelly Mandarin frustration! I went all over the Jade Forest and the Vale without seeing one single RM pool! So, someone on here suggested Pearlfin Villiage. Went there, still no pools...even after I fished up all the Jade Lungfish pools. The JL's just keep spawning. I started (out of laziness) fishing in the open water (no pools) and started getting Redbellies! I think I've gotten about five so far in the same amount of time you'd get fishing two or three pools of JL's! So, I hope that helps. I was getting pretty irate because these are the last thing I need for the quest "To be a Master." Good luck fellow Anglers! ;oD

Comment by Philster043

Just tried to spawn pools in Jade Forest for about 45 minutes, and only got Jade Lungfush. Went to fish in the main river for a few minutes, and still no Redbelly Mandarin. It does seem like it's been nearly removed from that zone. I went to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, fished up some Jewel Danio pools, and finally saw a couple of Mandarin pools spawn. That was a happy end to an overall pretty frustrating hour for me.

Comment by ns88

No longer spawns in jade forest as of 5.1

Since the removal of Redbelly Mandarin Schools from The Jade Forest in patch 5.1, there is no "good place" to catch these fish. :(

Comment by 215061

No longer available in The Jade Forest as of patch 5.1

Comment by 590343

I'm betting the lack of Redbellies in Jade Forest is a bug. I haven't seen any word one way or the other from blizzard. Personally I think it would have been a patch note if it was something permanent. When they realized this mistake I'm sure they got on it right away but haven't had enough luck resolving it to make comments. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

Comment by 1061653

Didn't find a single pool in Jade Forest. Had the best luck in Townlong Steppes in the pool by Niuzao Temple (there were about 6 pools there).

Comment by DollarCRS

I can't find any pools at all anywhere.
I did a check to see how much it drops on regular fishing.
After puling up 50 fish in the body of water surrounding the pearlfin village, these are my statistics:

5 Jade Lung Fish
10 RedBelly Mandarin
35 Golden Carp

So, about 20% of my catch is of use... Kinda suxx!

Comment by 1051443

I have spent days trying to figure out the best place for redbelly and it is in fact in townlong, dont waste your time in jade forest you wont find a single one.

Comment by PriestessAur

Now that these pools only seem to be found with in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, a suggestion... fish up what ever you need to level cooking before turning in The Guo-Lai Halls to unlock the Golden Lotus dailies . You will be phased out until you turn in this quest and can fish all you want in peace. No players and a lot less hostile mobs (since you can't see any of the daily mobs). It also works for any alts that you don't care about getting Golden Lotus rep. on.

Update: The Patch 5.4 changes to Vale of Eternal Blossoms apply to all phases.

Comment by Kadomi

With the removal of pools from Jade Forest with 5.1, I have been trying to fish them up both in Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Townlong Steppes. Unfortunately, Vale is not a great fishing location as the Redbelly pools share spawns with both Jewel Danio and Emperor Salmon all over the zone. At any time I tried, there's an abundance of Jewel Danio, and only the occasional Redbelly Mandarin pool.

Townlong Steppes has very few places to fish at but what's there is pretty good for Redbelly Mandarin. If you really need them, I would definitely give the thumbs up to Townlong over Vale. Expect to fly around quite a bit though, all Townlong pools are spread out across the zone.

Comment by Sereilbex

As far as I can tell there are no longer schools for Redbelly Mandarin anywhere in Pandaria. Your best bet is to throw on a lure, have a sit down and just fish in the waters of The Jade Forest. Drop rate is about 1 in 5, or 20%.

Comment by jdkaminsky

Post 5.1 I have searched for the best Redbelly Mandarin fishing spot. Townlong Steppes, 65.19 37.56, the northern still water area. Pools occasionally spawn (well...One Pool spawns), but the overall catch rate is 50%.

I caught Golden Carp (40%), Emperor Salmon (6%), and Sealed Crate (3%).

No mobs to bother you; I was using Dragon Fishing Pole, Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, Sharpened Tuskarr Spear, and patience.

Comment by Kawant

So far, the best place to fish is in the Townlong Steppes, along the river at the bottom where it connects with the Dread Wastes, there are a good combination of pools of redbelly mandarin and emperor salmon.

Comment by 1058721

The only pools I have found have been in Vale of Eternal Blossoms around Mogu'Shan Palace.

Comment by 1038539

I would say don't even bother with Jade Forest, I looked around there forever and didn't find a single one. Townlong Steppes seems to me the best place to start. Here's a few I found.

Found 1 pool north of Fire Camp Gai-Cho
66, 37

and 3 pools at Sra'vess
22, 53
(be cautious of lvl 90 mobs nearby, but at least if you die the gy is right next to you.)

Edit- Fishing in these four pools gave me 21 Redbelly Mandarin and a few Golden Carp and some trash.

Comment by 297668

As of 5.1, if you prefer fishing in pools rather than open water, the best spot now seems to be in Townlong Steppes (approx. 35, 52). There are 4 pools in the lake north of Niuzao Temple, so there is a big chance that at least one of them is a Redbelly Mandarin school. When I went there, two were Manarin Schools and the other two were Emperor Salmon Schools.

There is another small lake north of Fire Camp Osul (66, 38), but there is only one pool. It was an Emperor Salmon School when I checked, so the chance is smaller here.

Another chance to find Redbelly Mandarin Schools is in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, but Redbelly Mandarin Schools share spawning locations with 2 other pool types, namely Emperor Salmon and Jewel Danio pools, and unfortunately there are much more of those, Redbelly Mandarin Schools seems to be quite rare here. While the map here on Wowhead only shows pools in the artificial lakes near the two faction cities, Redbelly Mandarin Schools can also spawn in Whitepetal Lake and upstream.

Comment by drummermessiah

Do yourself a favor and don't listen to any of the previous comments about Jade Forest. They're all wrong, I spent over an hour fishing in open water (not in pools) and there was no Redbelly Mandarin. And all the pools are Jade Lungfish, there are no Redbelly pools in the Jade Forest.

Also, don't bother trying to farm it in the Vale, I spent at least an hour flying around there as well and only found maybe a total of 5 pools.

The place to be is Townlong Steppes:

I found 8 pools within 5 minutes all at the Widening Deep. Start at 58,86 and fly southwest and you will find a bunch of pools. This area shares spawns with Emperor Salmon as well.

There is a small lake at 82,88 that had 3 pools of fish in it, 2 of which were Redbelly Mandarin schools and the other was an Emperor Salmon school.

And as noted in a previous comments:

There are some pools of Redbelly Mandarin at the lake just north of Niuzao Temple at 35,52.

I looked at the small lake north of Fire Camp Osul (66, 38), but only saw 1 Emperor Salmon school as well.

Someone said they found 3 pools at Sra'vess (22,53), but I didn't see any pools when I flew over there.

Comment by MagusMaximus

Here are a few of my observations after searching for Redbelly Mandarin:

Redbelly Mandarin pools in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms seem to be fairly rare, with most pools being Jewel Danio & Emperor Salmon
I spent a good amount of time open-water fishing at (65.47, 38.48) in Townlong Steppes. Overall I ended up with a roughly 20% catch rate of Redbelly Mandarin.
All in all, I believe you are better off open-water fishing in order to get the best amount of fish in least amount of time. Although 20% is a bit less than I would like, I feel it is more time effecient than roaming around looking for rare pool spawns.

These are all of course from personal observation so please feel free to comment or reply with anything you feel might work better!

Comment by 1071973

After reading the comments here I went straight to Widening Deep in Townlong Steppes (south of Rensai's Watchpost). I only found 2 E. Salmon pools but fished around anyway since there are Redbelly Mandarins in the area.
With fishing skill 600, Bright Baubles lure and 20' of fishing, I've got:

17 Emperor Salmon
16 Redbelly Mandarin
27 Golden Carp
1 Flying Tiger Gourami
(and 1 Driftwood)

What I want to say is, don't give up if u dont find the schools/pools, fish around anyway.

Comment by TheWheatOne

As many have said, there are no school pools in the Jade Forest anymore, however, you can still catch them inland at around a 20% chance. Trust me, this is WAY faster than searching for nodes all over a zone, or having to fish other nodes, so that Redbelly nodes start reappearing. Other zones will have even a less chance of catching them, simply because they have a higher junk lvl limit to overcome, so Jade Forest is the way to go. Just don't expect fast progress, these really are rare fish.

Comment by 755675

Hi I've found my first pool after exactly 1hour 30 min fishing in all recent known drop locations, and geuss where . . . .
Yup ''The Widening Deep'' (52,89) , before it spawnd i do have fished the Emperor Salmon's spawned pools and fished random there to
I've looted 4 Redbelly's there :( (expected like 7 or 8)
But wel the show must go on

Comment by SpareSimian

I found about 8 pools at Ancestral Ridge in the Vale, two of Redbelly. That lake doesn't appear to get visited often and the large number of pools gives you a good chance that some will be Redbelly.

Comment by perculia

In 5.2, the daily event "Fish of the Day" will be added. One of the following nine locations will have this event going on. Each location has a specific type of fish that is quite plentiful to catch.

Woods of the Lost, The Jade Forest: Jade Lungfish. Special pools are called Glowing Jade Lungfish because Sprite Dragons shoot arcane bolts at them.
Fields of Niuzao, Townlong Steppes: Redbelly Mandarin. Special pools are called Crowded Redbelly Mandarin which makes sense due to the tiny pond they spawn in.
Stormstout Brewery, Valley of the Four Winds: Emperor Salmon. Special pools are called Brew-Frenzied Emperor Salmon, which makes sense based on their proximity to the brewery.
Krasari Falls, Krasarang Wilds: Krasarang Paddlefish. Special pools are called Swarm of Panicked Paddlefish, most likely due to the Goblin NPC throwing dynamite at them.
Mad Qao Pao, Vale of Eternal Blossoms: Jewel Danio. Special pools are called Glimmering Jewel Danio Pool, since Mad Qao Pao, a very blingy Pandaren, periodically makes wishes and throws coins into the pool.
Binan Village Coast, Kun-Lai Summit: Spinefish. Special pools are called Sha-Touched Spinefish and the water has an oily appearance.
Sri-La Village, The Jade Forest: Reef Octopus. Special pools are called Reef Octopus Swarm and baby octopus run around the docks.
Gokk'lok Shallows, Dread Wastes: Giant Mantis Shrimp. Special pools are called Tangled Mantid Shrimp Cluster, as "Stuffed shrimp" sharks and seagulls periodically eat them.
Master Snowdrift's Pagoda, Kun-Lai Summit: Tiger Gourami. Special pools are called Tiger Gourami Slush, and nearby trainees cast blue bolts at them.

The Redbelly Mandarin schools in the lake north of Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes had an almost instant respawn rate (alternating with Emperor Salmon) and the off-water seemed to have a good catch rate as well.

Comment by silthania

I've had good results fishing from the pond north of Niuzao Temple. The pools respawn faster than they can be fished out, and alternate between Redbelly Mandarin and Emperor Salmon, giving a Redbelly Mandarin catch rate of just under 50% (due to the occasional crate or miscast). Use water walking or levitate, and just keep going around in a circle fishing out every single pool.

Comment by 955713

The most consistent place I've found for a quick stack is in Vale of Eternal Blossoms at 31, 85. There is a pool that empties to a waterfall. Schools are found in this pool plus you can follow the waterfall north and the small river that runs north to white petal lake. Schools can be found along the river and at WP Lake. Usually takes less than 10 min to fish up 20-25 Redbelly Mandarin.

Comment by 1115016

I have been flying around for ages in Townlong (which seems to have the highest success rate post 5.2), and haven't been able to find a single pool (April 16, 2013). I might just have the worst fishing luck ever. I spent over three hours trying to get the Weather-Beaten Journal without success as well. If anyone finds any of these pools, please please please let me know. Fishing in open water has yielded very little success. I only have 3 total! Hopefully everyone else is having a better time of it.

Comment by cedricm

Look no further than townlong step 34, 55 near Niuzao.
It is the absolute Redbelly Mandarin paradize.

Comment by 1117679

From the data I've collected I conclude that there are no pool spawning locations with just Redbelly. Rather there are pool spawning locations that can appear as either Redbelly or Emperor. So while looking for Redbelly in Townslong or Vale also fish those Emperor pools as they may reappear later as Redbelly. Here's some sample data I've collected at a pond in Townslong:

(these are not all of the pool spawn locations at the pond, I just got tired of collecting data is all)

34.712, 51.333 redbelly 1, emperor 1
34.766, 51.912 redbelly 1, emperor 1
34.798, 51.614 redbelly 1, emperor 1
34.936, 53.016 redbelly 3, emperor 0
35.033, 54.964 redbelly 0, emperor 2
35.170, 54.054 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.190, 53.292 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.463, 51.184 redbelly 1, emperor 2
35.503, 51.585 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.531, 54,842 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.670, 54.728 redbelly 2, emperor 1
35.694, 51.776 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.793, 52.347 redbelly 1, emperor 1
35.913, 54.403 redbelly 2, emperor 1

I didn't do the math, but it appears roughly even. I did end up with 50% more emperor fish though, perhaps there are more of those per pool? I'm not sure.

Comment by Bellaluna1722

Actually, I found out that you can catch Redbelly Mandarin at a good pace while fishing at the Arboretum in Jade Forest. Granted, you can catch any type of fish as long as it's in inland water. I've caught at least 5 each time I was fishing to obtain Sugar Minnow for an Order of the Cloud Serpent daily.

Comment by 1116883

After searching for these all over the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and only getting a couple of schools even after fishing down the Jewel Danio schools, I have found a great place to farm these. A small pool just northwest of Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes. You can farm unlimited supply of Emperor Salmon and Redbelly Mandarin it seems. Everytime I fished down a pool, another would spawn.

The pool is located at approximately 35.00, 50.00 where Seeker Zusshi, the Grandmaster Pet Trainer, is located.

Happy fishing!

Comment by Magekin

The only noticeable pool in Townlong is NW of the temple of Niuzao. Needing some redbelly I headed over there. I found you probably need fishing skill significantly above 600 to get the drop rate below. At 585 I was catching nothing but golden carp. After buffing up to about 730 skill I caught 11 redbelly out of 40, 15 out of 58 or around 40%. Every 4-5 minutes an Osul Sharpshooter would come around which is annoying to a clothie in fishing gear. Using a walk on water buff would also help.

Comment by 1129489

For anyone who can only find Emperor Salmon at the Fields of Niuzao spot in Townlong Steppes. You must fish the salmon school in order to spawn another school, this could be either be the Redbelly Mandarin or another Emperor Salmon.

Comment by Strokelock

Townlong Steppes at Fields of Niuzao at 35.88, 54.65.
I could have stayed there all day. 3 stacks in 10 minutes. Every pool was Redbellys - screenshot submitted.
Happy Fishing!

Comment by 1093598

There is a pool in front of Seeker Zusshi in Fields of Niuzao (Townlong Steppes) where I found 4-5 pools of these fish. Once I fished all of them, most were replaced by pools of Emperor Salmon, but some respawned as Redbelly Mandarin pools. The respawn rate seems high, at least at this time of day (4pm realm time).

Comment by Nickhead420

I had good luck fishing up these guys from the pond at Fields of Niuzao, just NW of Niuzao Temple. When I got there, there were ~10 pools and by the time I did a full lap around the pools were respawning already. In 3 laps I came across only 2 pools of Emperor Salmon. Worth checking out IMO

Comment by Endinglife

As of 5.4 I believe these are no longer available in Vale of Eternal Blossom as the majority of the water is gone.

Comment by Lucocerus

As of PATCH 5.4, the place to fish for the Redbelly Mandarin is in Townlong Steppes at (36 / 54) the Fields of Niuzao in the lake on the northwest end of the island.

Comment by 1146635

Ok,

Since the release of patch 5.4 Siege of Org, the Redbelly I have found in a lake in the Fields of Niuzao. While fishing as you finish each pool a new one will pop up. After log searches this is the only place I have seen them. I've also seen a few schools in the river south of the Fields of Niuzao near the Dread Waste known as the Winding Waste.

Comment by MyByoki

I also went to the pond in Townlong but my luck is notoriously bad. Each time I'd fish a Salmon school it would be replaced with yet another Salmon school. Eventually I gave up and fished the pond itself. From this pond you can catch Redbelly Mandarin, Emperor Salmon, Golden Carp, or if you get really lucky, Tiny Red Carp.

My logic in just giving up on the schools was this: Fishing the Salmon school was only going to get my more Salmon, and junk crates, and a chance at spawning a pool for the fish I actually needed. The chance seemed small enough to me that after 30 minutes I'd rather fish the open water than the wrong specific-fish-pool. I still ended up getting the 70 Redbelly I needed, and I got the Tiny Red Carp too. Win / Win.

After about an hour of fishing in open water from the pond north west of Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes, I fished up:

31 Redbelly Mandarin
36 Emperor Salmon
120 Golden Carp
2 Sealed Crates
1 Flying Tiger Gourami

EDIT:
Twenty-five minutes in the Widening Deep yielded 15 Redbelly Mandarin. Seems like that is a better area.

Comment by THRobinson

Townlong Steppes - Fields of Niuzao @ 35.5,53.0

There are about 4-5 schools of Emperor Salmon, when you fish them, after every 2-3 schools you fish, 1-2 schools of Redbelly Mandarin appear. You get around 5 Redbelly Mandarin each pool, sometimes less when you reel in a Sealed Crate.

Comment by 1185740

Actually, the redbelly mandarin lake isn't good at all, unless it's the fish of the day. Otherwise it's filled with Emperor salmon, with somewhere around a ten second pool respawn time. if anyone needs then, there they are.Atleast when i was there.

Comment by 1187275

If you are looking for Redbelly Mandarin go to: Townlong Steppes 35.2, 55.4 LOTs of pools!

Comment by pod32

If you're fishing these as cooking ingredients for Black Pepper Ribs and Shrimp for ultimately making the Pandaren Treasure Noodle Cart, I found it best to wait for this to be the fish of the day announced by Ben of the Booming Voice. Ben will name a "Fish of the Day" in which said fish will have multiple spawns at a single location throughout the day. I try to keep a stock pile of each ingredient for making noodle carts, and the fish of the day is an easy way to keep fish in stock. You could also use Ironpaw Tokens to buy certain ingredients, including Redbelly Madarin from Nam Ironpaw at the Halfhill Market. If you're in a pinch for time, using your Ironpaw Tokens may be quicker, but for regular gathering the fish of the day is the way to go. For detailed information on every aspect of fishing, check out El's Extreme Anglin'.

Comment by Centaurian

Just check with Ben of the Booming Voice standing by the stream near Halfhill for 'Redbelly Mandarin Day'. Catch Redbelly Mandarin all day long.

Comment by Evolution1979246

As of the New Content Siege of Orgrimmar, you can no longer fish in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Comment by 31866

As I didn't want to wait for the fishing day, I fished for these in the open water at the fishing day lake. With max fishing I was still getting a lot of carps, so I got a pole & lure. In 20 min at 730 fishing, I caught:
24 Redbelly Mandarin
25 Emperor Salmon
37 Golden Carps
2 Sealed Crates

Saw people here mentioning the Widening Deep, so I went to check there as well. Another 20 min at 730 fishing yielded:
17 Redbelly Mandarin
22 Emperor Salmon
41 Golden Carps
2 Sealed Crates

So it doesn't seem to be any better, probably the same table (why make 2 for 1 zone).

Comment by Alyysha

Went to the Fields of Niuzao in Townlong Steppes (36,53) because I saw it in the comments here. I needed it, and didn't want to wait for the fishing day, so I figured I'd take my chances. Put on my Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm and just fished in the emperor salmon schools until the redbelly schools showed up. It was basically one to one, with the exception of a few times I had to fish 2 emperor salmon schools to get the redbelly to show up. I got 60 redbelly's and 69 emperor salmons in a half hour (and a WHOLE BUNCH of sealed crates with a bunch of junk in them). I'm not sure why people are voting the comments down that suggest this place. It's about the best you can get without it being the fishing day for this specific fish...

Comment by Zeraveth

Going to the little lake in the middle of the island called Sra'vess in Towlong Steppes (just west of Niuzao Temple, west portion of Towlong in general) there is a good spot to fish for these. The pools share the lake with Emperor Salmon but I spent a good 30 minutes today fishing just Redbelly Mandarin pools and only got respawns of Redbelly Mandarin pools.
Be it RNG or just a good spot, mainly due to the fact that the island isn't that visited anymore (Shado-Pan dailys area) I would recommend going there!

Comment by 1151786

Pools of mandarin may no longer spawn in Jade Forest, but you can catch them randomly fishing outside of pools still.

Comment by 751311

Redbelly Mandarin pools are just one of nine possible special daily pools that can appear for "The Fish of the Day". You need to check with Ben of the Booming Voice in the Valley of Four Winds at coordinates (58.9, 46.9) not far to the northeast of the Halfhill Market to see what the "Fish of the Day" is before travelling out of your way. When it is the redbelly mandarin head out to the lake in the Fields of Niuzao to the northwest of the Niuzao Temple in Townlong Steppes. The special pools will be called Crowded Redbelly Mandarin pools, and there will be about 30 of them in that one lake. They respawn really fast. Look for the Giant Crowded Pool to make things even easier. However, you may not be able to reach it from shore so it helps if you have the Anglers Fishing Raft to fish from.

Beware of a Level 90 rare elite named Krakkanon that can pop up in the middle of the lake. He doesn't hit especially hard, but with a health pool of 19697K, he is very hard to wear down solo. He's a giant, spiked, funky blue turtle (and Godzilla wannabe) and you can't miss him when he shows up. When I noticed someone else attacking him I joined in, and when we killed him I got Redbelly Mandarin x 20, Silkweed x 20 and Golden Lotus x 2.

Comment by 610726

If these aren't the Fish of the Day from Ben of the Booming Voice and you don't feel like farming salmon pools or open water in Townlong, depending on your own patience and luck, another option is to get the Fish of the Day anyway (unless it's Spinefish), and convert to Bundle of Groceries.

20 fish = 1 Bundle of Groceries = 1 Ironpaw Token = 5 Redbelly Mandarin, so 4 stacks of something else will convert to 1 stack of Redbellies. Some fish may be more worthwhile than others, if you decide to try this route.

Comment by 1207270

Hello! I wanted to comment that the Redbelly Mandarins are indeed in the small pond just northwest of the Niuzao Temple, Townlong Steppes.

As I approached the pond there were about 4 pools of Emperor Salmon spawned. Feeling a little deflated, I jumped on my Anglers Fishing Raft and started fishing up the salmon for the Bundles of Groceries quest. I was averaging 7 salmon per pool. After fishing up only one salmon pool I saw a Redbelly Mandarin pool spawn just nearby!

Within 18 minutes 10 pools had spawned ( I fished up salmon while waiting) and I was averaging 3-5 fish per pool, totaling 40 fish! So while not prolific, there were HERE!

After 20 minutes, the spawning of the Redbelly pools just stopped. I passed over the open water and just for fun dipped my pole in and picked up Mimic Octopus to bring back to Pat Nagle! So it was a good fishing trip overall!

I hope this helps!

Comment by TwoBoots

I agree that they do not show up often, but after fishing out two schools of salmon, one redbelly school showed up. thanks

There may not be any pools in the Jadee Forest anymore, but I've had a lot of luck fishing these up at a little pond in the Jade Forest. It's located at 47,47, (south of Dawn's Blossom, west of the Arboretum)and all you really need to do is fish outside of any pools there, which will most likely be jade lungfish. The drop rate isn't awesome, and you'll get a lot of golden carp, but it's something.

Comment by Fate17

7 schools of redbelly mandarin and 3 schools of emperors salmon in 10 minutes at niuzao temple in townlong.

Comment by 1235479

I just fished a bunch of them in the Jade Forest, north-west from Pearlfin village. Not from any node, just randomly fishing for Golden Carps.
For 20 x Golden Carp I got 10 x Redbelly Mandarin, and 6 x Jade Lungfish.

Comment by Britalje

I can't find a single one! Help!

Comment by xeskistra

It seems that the pool there holds 4 fish pools, mostly emperor salmon pools. Don’t be discouraged, clear the emperor salmon pools and by the time one pool is cleared, one new will spawn and it could be redbelly mandarin one, or you can free fish and get high percentage Colden carps, medium percentage emperor salmons and low percentage redbelly mandarins.

Comment by Sasskia

The pool above Niuzao Temple is now full of Crowded Pools of Red Belly Mandarin. I have submitted a screenie :)

On average I was getting 5-6 fish from each pool.

At the Fields of Niuzao, on the lake north of the Niuzao temple.

231 casts;

151 Golden carp, 65.4%
40 Redbelly Mandarin, 17.3%
40 Emperor salmon, 17.3%
1 Flying tiger gourami quest.

I did a lap of the lake every few casts to look for pools, never saw one. I did not attempt to fish out the Salmon pools though

At the lake north of the Niuzao temple is the best place to fish for Redbelly Mandarin. If all you see are pools of Emperor Salmon, fish those and Redbelly Mandarin will pop up to replace it. I went round and round the lake fishing both types of pools. I think the pools alternate. You will get more this way than free fishing and you get lots of salmon, too, which if you don't need for cooking, you can turn in for Ironpaw Tokens.

If it's not fish of the day, go the small stream at the bottom of TLS just above the wording "the Widening Deep" on the map.

Checked it out after the regular place and found a good 4 pools there.

Aside from schools, I have tried all the suggested spots for fishing these and from personal experience I have had, by far, the best luck at the Arboretum in the Jade Forest.

There are a few pools in the small lake/pond on the isle of Sra'Vess, west of Niuzao Temple.

Tested fishing these in MoP Classic. There are indeed pools of these at Niuzao in Townlong Steppes, however they are invaded by Emperor Salmon to the point that if these salmon are worthless to you, you should reconsider the hunt for these and fish something else and buy them from AH or similar.

In my case, these were 10.5G per but emperor salmon only 5G
I could have fished Lung fish instead for 9.5G since they are much more consistent without lower value fish in their areas

As of this posting, the crowded pools and the large pool in Townlong for the redbelly mandarins are empty. Either they are not fully implemented yet, or the Devs forgot to ad the fish to the pools. Classic MoP 5.5.0

MOP Classic: As of September 2025, the little lake in Fields of Niuzao in Townlong (loc 35, 52) seems the best. There is a steady, hyperspawning supply of 4 pools always up, and after fishing there for a while, it seems it's about 50/50 whether a pool spawns as Redbelly Mandarin or Emperor Salmon. Just keep fishing the pools through and you'll get plenty of Redbelly Mandarin.
