According to reviews, this will be the most common fish in Mist of Pandaria and can be fished in any pools of water in pandaria.

Confirmed: They can be fished in any water in Pandaria, no schools needed, just open water. However, it takes ofcourse, a long time before one stops pulling junk out of the water. Don't know the exact level for it.

The most rich fishing water with the highest rate of Golden Carp fish-ups, would be the inland waters of non-sha-touched waters in Kun-Lai Summit.

I found the best place to fish for these to be Whitepetal Lake in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

They are most abundant in the rivers of Krasarang Wilds.

Compared to KW other zones seem to be pretty light on golden carp. Make sure to grab dailies from The Anglers at Anglers Warf in the southeastern islands of the zone before you fish (approx 71, 44). This will net you some valor points, gold and fishing skill.

Everyone is talking about the best places to catch this fish. I'd much rather know the best places to NOT catch this fish, as it's incredibly common, and three stacks are needed to make one bundle of groceries.

Found the golden carp easily while in The Arboretum. The stream that flows beside the FP gave 7 golden carp while doing the daily SnackTime for 12 sugar minnows.

I'm not completely sure if the chance will be lower but I was leveling cooking and decided to start fishing to get it a higher level to get the carp, and ended up fishing a Golden Carp at fish level 114, so it doesn't seem that there's a level needed to get them. Although, I'm not sure how common they'll be for people with low fishing, I got it on my third or so cast. (haven't fished much since.)

This fish is only used for the leveling recipes for cooking and a daily for the cloud serpents. If you do not need to level cooking or grind with the cloud serpents, this fish is great to put on the AH.

Should you specific want to grind these for lvl cooking for instance the droprate is significant higher when on the daily quest A Feast for the Senses tested this only at the Arboretum wich resulted in 87% droprate.
This is offcourse with 700+skill to avoid trash.

If you don't want to fish them up, Nam Ironpaw sells a bag of five for one Ironpaw token in Halfhill. With these, you can easily get your cooking from 1-200 in Halfhill in like five minutes. Trainer sells most mats you need.

EDIT: As of 5.2 release, Golden Carp are now the 'trash' fish in all of Panderia. If you're not fishing in a pool, you'll most likely land these. No more torn sails, etc.

I've found a good place to fish these up is the Dojani River in the Krasarang wilds, my fishing skill is only 550 and i have the kaluak fishing pole equipped which increases your skill by 30. You don't have to fish in a pool as other people have mentioned earlier in the forum :)

Lots of confusion here.

The round nodes of fish are SCHOOLS, any water collected into a body of water deep enough to fish are referred to as POOLS.

Golden Carp are not fished from Schools of Golden Carp (because they do not exist), they are fished from any river or Pool of water in Pandaria.

if you are on the quest for Snack Time the stream that is right next to the quest giver will give you plenty! Just make sure you fish up what you are looking for BEFORE you turn in the quest for snack time. The drop rate lessens once you turn in it.

these don't have pools, they are simply found in the areas located in the map above.

Great fishing rate at the small lake by Dawn's Blossom at (45.1- 37.3). Fished up the 10 i needed to make 5 fish cakes for quest in about 5-7mins. Hope this help.

These fish are also required later on for one of the dailies (Lesson 3: Toasted Fish Jerky) used to rep up with Nomi, your student, once you complete To Be a Master and have 50 Ironpaw tokens to have bought Cooking School Bell.

5 fish required each day while you are working through the third tier of rep - uncooked. Save some! You'll need to do this quest 7-9 times depending on racial and guild perk rep bonuses.

Golden Carp can only be caught in the Zones of the Continent of Pandaria in open water, (aka fishable water), both salt water and fresh water. (Lava and sha-affected water were not tested.) If your bobber lands in a fishing node, aka school, aka pool, you will not catch this species of fish.

Blizzard refers to School of Fish as nodes, schools, and pools.

You can fish these up pretty much anywhere and they are very abundant. I have fished them up in open water in Jade Forest, Valley of the Four Winds and Krasarang Wilds. They are not just in lakes and rivers, as I have fished them up in the ocean while fishing for Giant Mantis Shrimp. I usually end up having more Carp than what I'm actually fishing for.

However, I wouldn't just sell them or bundle them for groceries right away. You're going to need them for the Order of the Cloud Serpent daily A Feast for the Senses to make your Fish Cake.

Needed just a couple of Golden Carps to bring my Cooking up to speed, but had no fishing at all and prices on the auction house were insane. Prepared for a long haul before catching my first Carp, but was pleasantly surprised a relatively short time later. Results:

fishing 17 (+25) - Golden Carp #1
fishing 43 (+25) - Giant Mantis Shrimp
fishing 47 (+25) - Golden Carp #2
fishing 54 (+50) - Giant Mantis Shrimp
fishing 80 (+50) - Reef Octopus
fishing 105 (+50) - Golden Carp #3
fishing 110 - Golden Carp #4

Conclusion: if you plan on leveling fishing and cooking, fishing from 1-? in Pandaria for Golden Carps is not that bad an idea. People have probably figured out by now that aspiring cooks are willing to spend a lot of money on the required Carps. The odds of catching one at low skill may be bad, but you're catching a LOT of junk on your way - might as well save some money during the early levels.

I have found the best place for fishing these guys is actually The Arborteum. I started doing the dailies there with a fishing skill of 485. I am now at 540. All I use is a strong fishing pole (+5 skill) and a bright bauble (+75 skill). Today in exactly 10 minutes of fishing with the strong pole/bright bauble I got 22 golden carp, just out of the little stream at The Arboteum. The only junk I got was one piece of driftwood and one tattered cloth. I also got a few jade lungfish and a few redbelly mandarins. But this place by far has the least amount of junk, in my experience.

A fairly easy place to fish them up with a fishing skill of 515 is at the Arboretum comes in handy when you need the for the quest A feast for the senses.

I fished at Sri-La Village in The Jade Forest for a good ten minutes. Caught about 10 Golden Carp and no trash. My fishing skill level was at 380.

As of 5.2, fishing in the lake by the quests near the gazebo in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and the drop rate for these is near 100%. Save yourself some time and make the trip here, because everywhere else I've fished, this is about a 10-15% drop.

I went to Whitepetal Lake in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms to fish for Golden Carp.
I used the Pandaren generic fishing pole with a fishing skill of 465. It went up to 472 & these are my catches out of 20 cast:
15 - Golden Carp
04 - Jewel Danio
03 - Life Spirit
& 1 - Sealed Crate containing;
19 Silver 80 Copper
4 Windwool Cloth
2 Corn-Breaded Sausage
1 Darkmoon Firewater

Best place is at 58.93, 47.01, in Valley of Four Winds, right next to the pandaren 'Ben of the Booming Voice'. For those of you who don't have the cords map for whatever reason, he is on the east side of Halfhill at the edge of the river, south of the small bridge on your map. When I was fishing here, I caught Golden Carp 100% of the time, no junk, no other fishies.

Just take off your fishing pole. At skill lvl 1, I went to the anglers and fished off the coast of their island I caught 56 of them and 2 shrimp and than got bored.

I am currently catching these without fail while on the No Fishing Pole Necessary! quest, starting from 1 fishing skill, with no rod. I dropped the quest to see if I could still catch them, at 9 fishing skill, and I am still catching them with every cast. Has anyone else seen this happen? Maybe it's this area?

Since turning in 60 of these will yield one Ironpaw Token, if the price of 3 stacks of Golden Carp is less than the price of 100-year old soy sauce, rice flour or black pepper you can make a profit by buying the carps from the auction house and turning them in for tokens. On my server you can make some easy money on the side doing this since a stack of Golden Carp will go for 5-10 gold and a soy sauce for 75 gold.

So, if you are skilling fishing in Pandaria like I was, you will get a LOT of them. If you are a cook too, DON'T sell them, you can turn 60 of them into Bundle of Groceries which you can trade for one Ironpaw Token. You can trade that for some meat or other usefull ingredients... So, DO NOT sell/throw away those tons of carps you will get, they can be usefull too. :)

My favorite fishing place for Golden Carp is near Pang's Stead just north of the bridge that crosses the Yan-Zhe River where the turtles are. /way #376 86.66 19.37 (Golden Carp).
There are few schools of fish there so you catch mostly Golden Carp.

I stop there on my way from Halfhill to Arboretum in order to catch Golden Carp to complete the quest A Feast for the Senses. I know it is a bit of an overkill since Golden Carp are easily caught while doing the quest Snack Time

I legit have not fished up a single one of these things in MoP Classic. I've leveled from 1 to 141 solely in Pandaria and haven't gotten a single one. Must be either a bug or there's a skill level requirement.

Blizzard posted hotfix patch notes showing that they "fixed a bug causing players to get a blank window when fishing."

However, I'm still experiencing the blank window when fishing. I found a partial work-around while I level fishing from low skill levels is that while I have the daily quest Snack Time in my log, I have a chance to catch Golden Carp occasionally when I manage to catch the objective of that quest, Sugar Minnow.

If you are having trouble getting these for any reason, open water fishing at the Darkmoon Faire seems to net you a high percentage of them. (EDIT: yes, even at 600 fishing.)

For me, the best place to fish these up specifically has always been The Gilding Stream just east of Halfhill by the fishing daily guy. Makes sense since gilding = gold = golden carp? :D
