I was testing the borders between Valley of Four Winds, Krasarang Wilds and Jade Forest while trying to find a way to catch jade lungefish and redbelly mandarin to advance my cooking. Between Jade Forest and Krasarang Wilds I saw fishing nodes for Golden Carp and Reef Octopus. I could not fish from this pool but wanted to share the information I found while I was out goofing around. At this time I have had no luck in catching octopus from the water I am able to cast into.

I will update this information if my luck changes :)

I found Reef Octopus Schools in Krasarang Wilds around Anglers Wharf. Havent tested open water, but found several Schools tho.

The coastline and around the islands in Krasarang Wilds have schools of Reef Octopus. "Reef Octopus Swarm"

Can be caught in open waters along with Golden Carp and the occasional Giant Mantis Shrimp off the southern coast of Jade Forest.

Chee Chee
Chee Chee is either standing outside his house (34.4, 46.8) or at Halfhill

When you are level 90, if you have Valley Stir Fry x5 in your pack he will offer you a daily to turn those in to him for rep.
One Valley Stir Fry is made with Reef Octopus x1 and Wildfowl Breast x1
When you are level 90, his favourite gift is Blue Feather along with Old Hillpaw

Best Friends with Chee Chee
When he is your Best Friend, sheep will be found on your farm, to look decorative.
He will also post you a Chee Chee's Goodie Bag, which contains some cloth and leather.

When you are exalted with the Tillers and Best Friends with Chee Chee, if you ask him for help on the farm he will come and sit around by your sheep.
When he is at the market he will not come to your farm. You must wait for a day when he is at his house.

Tied up with the new Pandaren cooking, and the Tiller's reputation are some individual "reputations" associated with ten npcs which are located around Halfhill and the Heartland in Valley of the Four Winds. All the information you could possibly want on farming and the associated reputations can be found in Perculia's guide. Note that there is more information if you scroll up.

These can be fished in pools (called Reef Octopus Swarm) off the coast of the southern half of the Jade Forest (south of the Temple of the Jade Serpent) and the coast of Kasarang Wilds.

The pools of Octopi and Shrimp appear to share spawns. If you're looking for one but only seeing pools of the other, fish up some of the undesirable pools and hopefully you'll get some of the ones you want to spawn. Of course, someone else might get to those first...

They can also be fished in open water off the Jade Forest, near the Arboretum, along with Giant Mantis Shrimp and Golden Carp. However, this isn't optimal if you specifically want the Octopi, as they were only about 1/6th of my total casts over 20 minutes.

Does anybody know how to catch these at sea? The pools are to far away from the shore to catch them with your fising rod. I found them in Krasarang Wilds, near the Incursion.

These are in open water (ocean) and near coast lines, seemingly at random with the shrimp schools. I've run all along the JF and KW with my hunter pet giving me waterwalking, and the octopi are most common.

If you need a way down to the water and are a lower level, Serenity Falls near Camp T-T in Jade Forest can be safely jumped from and the Terrace of the Ten Thunders has a path down to the water as well. Also, there are various areas near the north of JF where you can get back on to land, either via the Terrace path, or via some cute unmanned flight paths (abandoned kites) there are 3 kites and just the one path.

Potions of water walking are a simple way to get to these mid-water schools, same as various class abilities, such as the hunter's new water strider's Surface Trot ability, which is what I used. A near constant circuit can be run of these schools, from the north end of JF down to KW and back.

I personally have not risked going any further, and since there are hundreds of schools in those areas, there seems to be no need to.

I've been jumping from school to school along the coast of Sri-La Village in north eastern Jade Forest. There are tons of Reef Octopus Swarms as well as Giant Mantis Shrimp Swarms, and I haven't had to wait for respawns. Completely deserted, very good place for fishing. There's also some NPCs from The Anglers in the village who sell bait.

Reef Octopus as well as Giant Mantis swarms can and will be found along the coastline of both Jade Forest and Karasang Wilds. For the most part it is a 6>4 out of every 10 in favor of Reef Octopus, along the coastline and especially the small islands off the coast of Jade Forest you can fish for Reef Octopus either via the schools or just casting out into the waters in that area.

Was working on the Parental Mastery quest in the Hemet Nesingwary series and had to go the Lair of the Beast in the Valley of the Four Winds to complete it. After killing the Beast, I noticed that a pool of Emperor Salmon was present in the water. Fished the node and then decided to just fish the water. After a half hour of fishing, I netted the following:

28 Golden Carp
20 Reef Octopus
16 Giant Mantis Shrimp
1 Sealed Crate

Hope this helps someone looking for either the Octopus or the Shrimp.

If you fly along the bottom of the coast in Krasarang Wilds you will get plenty of octopus for your cooking needs.

Someone foolishly posted that these cannot be found in POOLS. Which is untrue. I just found the Mimic Octopus, Tiger fish, and Spinefish all in their respective pools. None of them took me more than 30 casts each.

I needed 30 reef octopi to level up cooking. I found a lot of pools on the southern coast of Jade Forest. Flying around at level 90 made it easier. Got 30 in about 30 minutes. Lots of giant mantis shrimp pools as well.

In 5.2, the daily event "Fish of the Day" will be added. One of the following nine locations will have this event going on. Each location has a specific type of fish that is quite plentiful to catch.

Woods of the Lost, The Jade Forest: Jade Lungfish. Special pools are called Glowing Jade Lungfish because Sprite Dragons shoot arcane bolts at them.
Fields of Niuzao, Townlong Steppes: Redbelly Mandarin. Special pools are called Crowded Redbelly Mandarin which makes sense due to the tiny pond they spawn in.
Stormstout Brewery, Valley of the Four Winds: Emperor Salmon. Special pools are called Brew-Frenzied Emperor Salmon, which makes sense based on their proximity to the brewery.
Krasari Falls, Krasarang Wilds: Krasarang Paddlefish. Special pools are called Swarm of Panicked Paddlefish, most likely due to the Goblin NPC throwing dynamite at them.
Mad Qao Pao, Vale of Eternal Blossoms: Jewel Danio. Special pools are called Glimmering Jewel Danio Pool, since Mad Qao Pao, a very blingy Pandaren, periodically makes wishes and throws coins into the pool.
Binan Village Coast, Kun-Lai Summit: Spinefish. Special pools are called Sha-Touched Spinefish and the water has an oily appearance.
Sri-La Village, The Jade Forest: Reef Octopus. Special pools are called Reef Octopus Swarm and baby octopus run around the docks.
Gokk'lok Shallows, Dread Wastes: Giant Mantis Shrimp. Special pools are called Tangled Mantid Shrimp Cluster, as "Stuffed shrimp" sharks and seagulls periodically eat them.
Master Snowdrift's Pagoda, Kun-Lai Summit: Tiger Gourami. Special pools are called Tiger Gourami Slush, and nearby trainees cast blue bolts at them.

Today's Fish of the Day event was at Sri-La Village in The Jade Forest. When I got there, I found a giant oversized pool of Reef Octopus, called Large Swarm of Migrated Reef Octopus. My first cast I got a Sealed Crate and a Mimic Octopus (daily quest turn in for Nat Pagle). I then spent another ten or so minutes fishing and ended up with 41 Reef Octopus and another Sealed Crate. The pool had still not disappeared, but I needed to sleep, so I stopped there.

I wish they would put something for us to stand on - when the "sun" is shining so bright on the waves - on the side where we can actually SEE the pools without the glare! Just my opinion.

During the daily fishing event for Reef Octopus (as told to you by Ben of the Booming Voice) I fished about 91 octopi out of the Large School of Migrated Reef Octopus.

On my next fishing cast, a rare spawn called Krakkanon spawned out of the large pool. He has 19.7 million health, but I managed to solo him down (90 BM hunter ilvl 505). My pet and I were never in danger of dying, although he has one ability which shoots you into the air and you take more damage from falling then from the actual spell.

After killing him, the Large School of Migrated Reef Octopus disappeared, but he dropped some Windwool cloth and a stack of 20 Reef Octopus.

I'm guessing he's triggered by fishing the Large School to completion!

I found lots of pools for both the reef octopus and the mantis shrimp in the area of Nayeli Lagoon (48, 94). The respawn rate is good.

Hands down the best spot so far has been sri-la village. I saw at least 15 pools all reef octopus active at once it was crazy....
