Legion Assaults - Defender of the Broken Isles Guide

To participate in Legion Assaults, you must have Legion World Quests unlocked.

Assault ScheduleuniqueAssault Basics

A zone under a Legion Assault will have a green demonic portal marking it as being under assault on the larger continent map.

Legion Assaults will replace all the World Quests in a specific zone with demon-themed World Quests.

These new World Quests must be completed for the zone-specific World Quests to return and to advance the Assault (i.e.,Assault on Val'sharah).

These demon-themed World Quests reward tons of Nethershards! They can also drop the usual World Quest items, like Order Resources and Artifact Power.

Once you have completed 4 of these demon-themed World Quests, you will be asked to defend an area of each zone (e.g., Thunder Totem).

You are then put into a 3-person scenario where you fight a Legion Command ship.

Once you have completed this scenario, you have "repelled an assault."

To pick up Defending Broken Isles, you must have completed the first 5 Breaching the Tomb quests

The quests are: Armies of Legionfall, Assault on Broken Shore, Begin Construction, Aalgen Point, Vengeance Point

These quests are pretty easy. They unlock the Broken Shore questing zone and send you to discover flight paths and to make progress on buildings.

Assault Structure

Stage 1 - Complete 4 Legion Assault World Quests. There are more than four WQs in a zone, and you can complete more of them until the Assault despawns. All of these quests reward Nethershards, and some also reward gold, Order Resources, or AP.

Stage 2 - Assist an ally with cleansing the Legion from the zone. This generally takes the form of a progress bar quest and defeating some mobs/elites in a densely packed area.

Stage 3 - Queue up for a 3-player scenario to invade a Legion ship. If queue times are long, you can sometimes find a group via the Premade Group Finder. Killing the final boss rewards a large amount of Nethershards, a Dauntless Token, lots of gold, a piece of gear with a distinctive look, and a chance for a transmoggable weapon with a unique appearance.

0 Nethershard from completing Elite Legion Invasion World Quests.

The final boss in the scenario can drop around 0 Nethershard.

If you finish the Assault and go back and complete more World Quests, you can easily acquire several thousand Nethershards.

Tip: There are friendly NPCs cornered by demons around the zone. Kill the demons and click on the NPC to befriend them. They will then serve as a combat ally for a few minutes.

Killing the Elites for the first phase awards 4% completion, while saving baby dragons or activating constructs awards 5% completion.

When you make it onto the ship, you'll have to run through a gauntlet, dodging blasts of fel fire. After observing it briefly, you should be able to sense a pattern and timing.

On the final boss Xeritas, dodge the Scorching Swipe and move away from the Cataclysmic Force Nova (which will be telegraphed) so you are not knocked off the ledge.

Reach the blue drakes to acquire transport to the Legion ship.

Eliminate Fel Lord Xeritas.

Does anyone know, can you do more than 4 special world quests in the area before doing the defending scenario? Can you do all quests in the area for shards and rep with whichever faction before heading to the scenario?

Came up about 30 minutes ago (roughly 5pm Eastern US, give or take a few minutes. Right now the scenario is taking AGES to queue up. I've heard tell that the server had crashed that it's on, but /shrug.

edit: At the time of this posting, I'm guessing the servers that the scenario is on were swamped. Queue took a total of 30 minutes to pop. A few hours later, it wasn't so bad.

It should take roughly 30-40 minutes total to get the assault done. The scenario was super quick, not even 10 minutes.

If you're having issues with the wait time, if you form a 3 person group, you will queue instantly for the scenario at the end.

An epic piece (860 random), a blue dauntless token, nethershards only.

These must be bugged to hell. I finished the 4 Legion Assault Points but it wouldn't allow me to turn it in, just a grey quest icon above Farondis's head. Abandoned it to reset but there weren't any assault points left to repel. Good job Blizzard....

Event is bugged for me. Had the quest to kill the last boss in the scenario, killed him and quest did not complete. For some reason the quest from the broken shore to repel a legion invasion completed, but the actual legion assault didnt complete.

This is false.

After my first queue took 20+ minutes at about an hour into the event, I later tried to do exactly that. I got a "You can't use Pre-Made Groups for this content" warning when I tried to queue. Fortunately, I requeued solo and it popped in about 5 minutes and I got it done.

But to not let Pre-made Groups queue is annoying as f$ and a slap in the face for the system.

I really hope blizzard has more foresight and common sense than to make a requirement for flying based on a timed, random and -very- buggy event. Not to mention hinging on the fact people have time to do all the steps in a limited amount of time.

Only the first assault rewards 1500 rep be sure to get DMF buff to get 1650 I'm at about 7k honored and sadly only the first assault rewards rep. Had people thinking these are bugged due to not getting rep with legionfall. Also had some people who said that after completing the scenario nothing happened. Each end boss rewards roughly 1k shards some supplies beacons and order resources.

This time was ridiculous for the EU realm, 3:30 to 9:30 am? So Blizz is encouraging us to get up in the middle of the night and this doesn't seem fair to people who work. I am on GMT so got my breakfast, sat down after with my morning coffee and realised I had 3 minutes to complete everything. This needs to be fixed.
ETA: I also forgot to mention the kids in our guild who can't do this because they are students. Maybe make it shorter duration but a few times a day?

The assault on Stormheim scenario was extremely buggy. My Stormdrake bugged out and wouldn't let me fly to the command ship and I wasn't able to help the other 2 dps complete the scenario. So I abandoned the scenario quest and queued again which it then let me complete it but I wasn't able to loot :( Also one of the other dps in the second scenario's drake bugged after we downed the commander and dropped him to his death. He wasn't able to turn in the completion and I missed out on an 880 chest piece :(

As far as can be told from current data, an assault spawns at either XX:00 or XX:30, ends 6 hours later and then the next assault spawns 12.5 hours after that.

US server assaults so far as of this post (all times will be EDT):

Several things I found that are not listed.
There are buffs you get in each zone, like Blessing of the Earthmother, that give a +5 to all stats.
Also there are legion beacons that if you destroy give a 30 minute buff called "Fel Infused" that procs a ton of bolts.

Also there are some treasures hidden around the zone, I found some wyrmtounge looting a corpse just outside of Thunder Totem near the water.

I'm not sure if anybody can help me...when a Legion Assault Quest comes up, (I currently have "Defending Broken Isles" btw) no Legion assault quests show up in the zone I am in. Actually, no WQ's at all show up. If I fly into a zone, the quest will pop (ex. Assault on Val'sharah) so I click "I accept" and then nothing. There are no world quest buttons, there are no Legion Assault Objective buttons. I have closed and reopened wow, I have turned off all addons, reloaded UI, reset the game with them off, everything! I sent in a ticket, no responses have been useful (like, make sure my clock is the right time, delete curse off my computer)

One friend mentioned to open my log instead, specifically click the quest, and then the objective areas will show on the map. sadly that did not work for me. Is it possible because I did a character transfer a few months ago that it is glitching out my game? I have no idea what to do! has anybody else had this problem?

I guess i wasted my time deffending Val'sharah, spent a lot of time,broke my gear, then no reward, because i didnt have a quest, also 0 drops. Let the legion invade all they want for now, i still need to open those world quests somehow.

so i have the quest for defending the broken isles, but every time i try to defend the broken isles it wont show the quest on map. it shows where the assault is, but like i said no quest. i can find where they are at and kill them, but i don't get anything for it. this has been ongoing since last week when i was trying to start it. all i want to do is defend the broken isles. :(

I'm unable to start any world quests for the legion assault on a char that was 103 and now 104 and still can't see the quests when I enter the zones. This is the third day I'm trying to do this. I do have a ticket in. No addons installed at all. I also tried resetting all in game settings.

Edit: I tried starting the WQ on a diff account who could see an assault but the share quest was grayed out for the toon in question.

Edit: 4/21, The account I was attempting to use was my wife's.

understand that you had an issue with seeing invasion world quests.

Not to worry! I see what the problem is.

Because the Legion invasions are world quests, if world quests have not been unlocked by the account by one character being 110 with at least friendly reputation with every faction, they will not be visible for you.

Once you unlock world quests for your account, you should be able to complete them without any problems.

I was able to see the Legion Assault quest in Azsuna earlier today at lvl 108 or 109. I almost got half a level just from the epic quests plus rested xp bonus on the regular mobs and elite boss for the WQs I did. I did 2 epic quests and 1 regular quest and I must have racked up over 140 thousand xp or something ridiculous like that plus a couple of the rewards were xp rewards as well which was amazing! There wasn't a whole lot of time left and I really didn't feel like finishing the assault so I don't know if you can do the final quests of the Assault prior to 110. All I know is that it helped a lot with a character that is almost 110. I had about 10-15 artifact power points in my weapon which may have something to do with it or maybe an iLVL requirement as well. I was over ilvl 650 at the time.

For whatever reason, this scenario has too many mobs that respawn about every 25 - 30 seconds. I've watched the video guide and successfully completed the scenario about 5 times both on my main and alts. However my experience is completely different than the video guide. The part that is different is the Battle for Val'sharah scenario where you have to shut down three portals before entering the tower. Every time I've run that, large groups of mobs spawn continuously, and make it exceedingly difficult to complete that section of the scenario. At times we were battling more than 20 mobs at the same time, despite standing off to the sid, up a hill away from the spawn area because as we downed one group of 4, several more would spawn. If any party member dies, they pretty much can't get back up the ramp by themselves and it takes many extra minutes to do the same tedious runs. Last night, one of the party members left the group because he was so pissed over it, and we never got a third to join despite being in queue. Needless to say it was a royal pita and not fun at all, one of the worst experiences I've had with wow in the 8 plus years I've been playing. We eventually finished it but the game design here left a lot to be desired. If anyone has any advice on how to stop the mobs from continually respawning, I'd love to hear it. The video makes it look easy, but like I said, my experience is nothing like the video.

Can you do stages of the assault separately even after the assault timer finishes? For example finish stage 1 with the 4 specific demon WQs, then log out, come back later and finish stage 2 and scenario?

As of today, the Legion Assault: Thunder Totem seems to be bugged. Stage 1 has new requirements (no more clicking crystals or saving fainted taurens), it's now a simple progress barof killing stuff. But as soon as that completes, it tells you to calm 5 Frightened Rivermane, which are all highlighted around Thunder Totem, but can't be interacted with. None of the 40+ people around me doing the same quest was able to interact. Even so, the Rivermane would occasionally trigger a text prompt and fade out, as if they were interacted with, even if noone around them got credit for anything.

If you have not turned in the quest to get your whistle after hitting 110 (I say this for my alts who at the time of posting this already have flying incase uniting the isles plays a factor). You will not get the invasion quest to do the scenario after completing the invasion WQs. I found that out the hard way.

Simple method for calculation of next assault is to take the current assualt end time, add 30 minutes, and if AM then change to PM or vice versa. As an example, if an assault starts at 10:00 AM, and ends at 4:00 PM, then add 30 minutes, to get 4:30 and change PM to AM, so that means next assault will be 4:30 AM. Hope this comes in handy in helping people schedule assaults.

I wish the timer on the front page could tell you what the next NA assault is... they're always the same as EU, but unless you happen to look while the EU one is active you can't see what zone's WQs are gonna be denied in US.

I have a 44 alts that i've been running through these. I found this Tomtom data useful. Not worth if you have only one or several characters, as it has to be edited each time as it's random. But to me over many MANY iterations it makes it so easy, especially if I skip a few of the more tedious ones, like the blob one in Stormheim. Yuck!.

I don't understand, I never see the assault pop up on my map, I've logged on for weeks now at the time of a alleged assault and I've never got one. Have world quests unlocked so not sure what I'm doing wrong?

EDIT and Update: As of August 21st 2018 Legion Assaults have returned and are able to be done once again!

SO! I went ahead and sent in a ticket to figure out what was currently going on with the Legion Assaults and thankfully the GM's got back to me fast so I can leave what was said here so that anyone wondering why the assaults are not happening like they should be can have a point of reference.

This is what I was told in the message back to me from the GM:

Hey there Huntmaster Drakkena. I'm Game Master Tyaeralcal. I completely understand wanting to see the invasions again so that you can get your class mount!

Invasions were temporarily disabled during the Battle for Azeroth launch because everyone, their kid brother and sister, and their dog are all trying to play. Realm stability ... is at a premium right now. Our devs commented on it here: https://twitter.com/WarcraftDevs/status/1029053990644797441

Rest assured, the Legion will be back again soon!"

Basically, since I did not see this mentioned on here except by one person and I couldn't find any further leads as to what was going on I sent in the ticket and got this from them. So, essentially the invasions will be back we just do not have a current ETA for when they will be back up! Hope this clears up any confusion and since it links to the Twitter comment on it that should help with further information!

The "Assault Schedule" section needs to be amended, as the spreadsheet by ManyThingsForDeck is no longer relevant - the spreadsheet data only accounted for invasions up to 08/15/2018 and is not updated for post-launch re-implementation.

If you are leveling a new alt which doesn't have any flight path and legion pathfinder available, you might consider fast traveling with Darkmoon Cannon to quickly reach invasion sites..
Its blast will propel you very far away, and combining it with a Goblin Glider Kit or a simple Slow fall effect will get you pretty much anywhere in a short time.
Simply step on the outskirts of Dalaran and face the direction you want to reach, then use the cannon and slow fall after the blast.

Note: This method works extremely well for Azsuna and Stormheim.

It's worth noting that because the scenario matching doesn't seem to see any issues with putting 110's and 120's together, the scenario at the end is nowhere near as lucrative as it could be for alts trying to level.
110's are in it for the XP until they hit 111, but the 120's are just there to complete the quests for their class mounts.
Application of scaling tech to this would obviously fix this, but since it's last expansion's content, and the only flaw with it is slowing down people trying to get a head start into BfA, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I wish I could disable these. I was enjoying questing in stormheim, loving the atmosphere and music, and now this ugly green atmosphere and horrible music and I can't even do anything about it because I'm level 100 and never played this place before.

For those using them to Level Up new characters get your hands on some Lightblood Elixir. These help a lot dealing with the demons, it procs a lot, and can one-shot the weaker ones, while helping even soloing most elite ones, in most specs.

Since patch 8.2.5 Legion assault bosses aren't dropping any loot. Hopefully, this is just a bug.

Having problems getting the Assault on quest during assaults? While leveling, both with and without the timewalking, I could see the Legion world quests on my map, complete them, and get the rewards, but I couldn't get the Assault quest. However, I finally discovered the trick to getting the assault quest -- talk to Khadgar, of course! (We are in Legion, after all.)

Khadgar's Uniting the Isles quest is required before the Assault quests are available. That's the one that originally opened WQ at max level and gave the whistle. I found him in The Violet Citadel in Legion Dalaran, completed the Uniting the Isles quest, and then got the Assault quest automatically on entering the zone under attack. It's not really necessary for leveling, and you can do the assault's WQ without the main quest, but I figured if I was in the zone being assaulted, I should get the XP I deserved for doing the WQ associated.

Pre-patch Dragonflight. There is no Legion assault up currently for EU when the timer says it should be on. Is the timer wrong or are the Legion assaults broken right now?

I finished two Legion World Quests in Azsuna today. I need to complete 4. The Assault is still going on for another 3 hours. Shouldn't there be more World Quests? If so, anyone know what their timer is? How long do I need to wait?

Not sure what to do? I have 'Defending the broken isles' quest... waited all day for the assault.. did all the quests in the zone and nothing new is appearing.

Blizzard should really do something about the scenarios at the end of assaults. Like let followers join as in dungeons.
Consider bringing 2 friends with you, cause right now, you'll be waiting for hours for 2 more desperate like you to join the queue for the final scenario.

Day 7 of waiting for an invasion. On days 1-6 I logged in each time the timer said there would be an invasion and there was none. Today I randomly checked and one was in progress, it was outside of the window on the schedule. Did everything up to the end, then it was time for the scenario. Waited in the queue until the invasion was over. Great stuff.

anyone else been doing this recently and have a schedule in mind? i got lucky with my one character and a assault was ongoing when she got her first quest to do it but now it seems that ive got a mount quest that needs a core form the end boss of an assault and cant seem to figure out when the next one is gonna pop up... this is frustrating as i have 2 other toons doing the same thing right now and they both have thier normal class hall quest now as well for it and since yesterday nothing has seemed to pop up lol i would also love for blizzard to make the assault boss soloable as it still requires 3 people to do for some stupid reason they really shat in their hand and clapped with the proper upkeep of this expansion

Quick question, does any of you have problems with seeing the assault expedition? The quest pops when I enter the zone, but no objectives on the map... Thus I cannot complete the quest "Defense of the Broken Isle"...

Please devs, I BEG of you, make the assaults once an hour or something in retail! So much timegating is really discouraging and blatent subscription padding. You already have my money, just keep making a game I want to play, not these artificial manipulations.
