Evidently (since it's not on any currently killable boss' loot table, including the penultimate boss), it drops from Kil'jaeden, the last boss in the
Sunwell Plateau
. Other weapons suggested to drop from him include:
Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury
,
Apolyon, the Soul-render
,
Golden Staff of the Sin'dorei
,
Sunflare
Crux of the Apocalypse
.

Actually this bow should have the class restriction Hunter on it, but then it might not find its way into the raid, if there's no Hunter present at the kill. Interestingly, it's listed as "disenchantable", but that might be an error.
It's also safe to assume that any equipment with an item level of 164 drops from Kil'Jaeden.
Edit: Well technically
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34196
has crit (in form of agi), atp and armor pen as well.

My first question was why, with the massive amount of Gamers playing hunters, hasn't a legendary bow dropped sooner.
However upon examination i guess it is lore. The other legendaries make sense, each one has lore behind it, a story explaining what makes it so special, and for a long time there were no real opportunities to Introduce a legendary bow.
It makes sense that The Blood elves would have such a bow as while many races have hunters, the blood elves are famous for having Ranger Lords.
On a side note, it would be nice to see more legendary and epic items effect the game in different ways. Much like the epic sword Ashbringer did. It would be a nice touch if while wearing this bow you got a more positive or simply different response from the Blood elves in Silvermoon

Hmmm - doesnt the 2.7 speed make it very very very good for BM hunters?

I think the of lill87's post was making fun of all the people calling "Hunter weapon!" on an item that benefits other classes either just as well or more than hunters.
That being said, while any melee who takes this over a hunter should be shot, it is a GREAT stat stick ;)

Finally, hunters get a legendary, and it's quite the legendary weapon indeed, the lore hasn't been released, so I'm just going to swoon over it's stats.
It's a 2.7 speed bow, which is an amazing speed for BM hunters using a 1:1 shot rotation, with some room to add a bit of haste and of course, improved Aspect of the Hawk. The additional stats are AMAZING, the agility, attack power, crit rating and armor ignore are incredible.
The biggest thing that makes this bow revolutionary is the fact it doesn't use ammo. Alot of people (obviously not theory-crafters), have asserted that the loss of 53dps ammo makes it a little less incredible. They are completely wrong.
Steady shot damage is unaffected by ammunition, thereby not gaining the 53 dps boost auto-shot gained. While it was speculated Blizzard might change the formula to include ammunition to the damage somehow, this bow clearly predates that possible change. This bow will make steadyshot the grand majority of a hunter's DPS, and with bonuses from the T6 4-set bonus, where steadyshot damage is increased by 10%, this bow is going to make a huge difference. This bow is clearly above the rest, if you were to take any other bow and add 53 dps and remove the ammo requirement, it would have an incredible DPS boost already, but this bow does it with clearly superior stats. It basically adds 53 dps to steady shot damage on an incredibly buff bow. I expect to see hunter's DPS above Warlocks and Rogues regularly with this bow.
That this bow frees up a bag slot is the absolute smallest of it's advantages. I cannot say enough good things about this bow. It is simply incredible.
Thank you Blizzard. <3

Whereas there's been no official statement on the lore, you can do the research yourself, to some extent. Partial speculation, but it makes a lot of sense, and gave me an insight into what to expect the bow to be before it was named and released.
Sunstrider's Longbow
, once having belonged to Dath'Remar Sunstrider, handed down to Sylvannas Windrunner when she was the Ranger-General, last to defend The Sunwell. Theoretical, but along with
This ancient elven artifact is a flaming composite longbow. The arrows it shoots are automatically imbued as though they were flaming ammunition.
It makes sense to consider the Legendary Bow the very same, left in the ruins of the Sunwell after Sylvannas defeat and fall to the Lich King.
How it reached Kil'jaeden is another matter, either Arthas left it there or one of the now-inhabiting Demons brought it to him. One could consider after he established his foothold in Azeroth, he would work to enslave Sylvannas and her Forsaken again, taunting her with the heirloom as a gift of fealty and power.
It at least sounds more right and legendary than the level 1 trash item model she has in Undercity, or saying a powerful relic that had caused Arthas so much trouble in her hands was just left by her corpse for her banshee to recollect.

Hi, I would appreciate it if users would please stop spamming this page with useless and non-constructive comments. It does no good to make comments accusing people of downrating comments with alts (it doesn't happen as much as you think), what you're probably seeing is an overactive moderation community on what is a considerably "hot" item. If you're viewing this page and are confused as to why your comment may have been downrated, you might want to review the
Commenting FAQ
.
But here, I'll combine all of the thoughts into one post so I can save you guys the downrating drama:
Yes it's a hunter weapon, no it doesn't use ammo, yes it's very powerful, yes you'll probably replace it at some point in Wrath of the Lich King, yes it's the highest dps bow in the game, yes it probably hits pretty very hard, qq your can't use it (although, note, it has no Hunter-only specification), no Blizzard isn't biased to hunters (there have been quite a few legendaries in the game prior that can't be used by hunters), I'm sorry you don't think
Kil'jaeden
is a bad enough dude lore-wise to drop a legendary, and it probably doesn't have a ridiculously high drop rate (maybe comparable to
Warglaives
).
Okay?

That's not true since steady shot ignores ammunition dps. For white damage the dps it's 109 but for steady shot and other skills that don't take into consideration DPS of ammu the bow's dps it's 162.

Finally some BM hunter love.
I was getting sick of the 3.00 weapons. Crossbow of Relentless Strikes
was a nice upgrade from 3.00 but this, this is godly.
Well here are the advantages over you average Marksmanship bow.
1. 2.70 speed. with Imp Aspect of the Hawk up (which shouldn't be hard because of the speed) and Serpent's Swiftness, you are already nearly at 2.00 speed, the optimal speed for a 1:1 Steady Shot rotation. All you need is one haste gear and presto 2.00 speed.
2. Does not use ammo. Bag space saved, nuf said.
3. Because it doesn't use ammo, Blizz added lot's of DPS to make up for the -51 DPS. All of that juicy DPS applies to your SS damage, unlike the ammo bonus. This is heavenly for maximum SS DPS
4. And last but not least, this bow offers a straight up DPS boost from any other bow, even subtracting for the loss of ammo.
All in all thank you Blizzard!

Since one of the drops is Coif of Alleria:
www.wowhead.com/?item=34333
It would suggest that there was some sort of meeting/confrontation with Alleria Windrunner and Kil'Jaeden/Sunwell Plateau.
And so the bow could be/was Alleria's bow.

Why don't you guys get that this bow sucks. It has slightly higher dps than the other bows except for the fact that you don't get anything out of a quiver (which gives a speed bonus) and you lose over 50 dps from not having any arrows. 50 dps and a speed increase is worth spending a little bit of money.
Comment by
36054
The bow itself gives a speed bonus. 15% not sure if you are reading that correctly. As stated before it doesn't need arrows so you dont get a bonus from ammunition, but then again the bow has high DPS as it is and therefore doesn't need the added damage from ammunition. This bow doesn't suck at all. Id be extremely happy getting it. One more bag spot and not having to constantly buy ammo? Id throw out that purple junk any day for the orange :D
Comment by

The high DPS on this weapon is worth more than having a lower DPS bow and arrow dps added to it.
This is because increased DPS on the weapon means increased average weapon damage, which in turn is factored into special shots.
You also get an additional backslot worth of inventory space, and your arrow consumption is removed. A truely legendary item, if used by a hunter.

Please tell me the people that are complaining aren't hunter's because we have been nerfed heavily enough for the last few years and lok'delar and rok'delar didn't quite do our classes justice. It's nice to know that end game or before that we as hunters have a decent choice in end game, as nice as the bow is the only pet peeve is that it's not specced specifically for hunters. GG for rogues and warriors... if u roll on this expect your guild to drop as this is a PURELY hunter weapon!

I find it stupid that they would put a weapon as powerful as this not limited to a specific class i mean the two azzinoth blades droped by illidan can only be used by rogues and warriors and this bow completly screams hunter and it annoys me that if it does drop everyone is gonna go after since its a legendary really stupid that its not made to be only used by hunters.

In the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, one of the changes to the Hunter class is that Steady Shot will incorporate ammunition into its damage calculations. To help balance that, Blizzard is reducing the amount of +damage the ability applies to ranged damage, however they are adding two new ranks.
Of course currently, Steady Shot does not use ammunition in its calculations. That is primary attraction and absolute beauty of this weapon: it generates its own 0 DPS ammunition and has an incredibly high damage range, thus pushing Steady Shot's damage through the roof.
If your guild has cleared T6 content, the
Bristleblitz Striker
+
Timeless Arrow
= 148.8 DPS,
the
Golden Bow of Quel'Thalas
, the first upgrade from BBS, + Timeless Arrow = 150.3 DPS,
compared to Star's Fury's 162.8 DPS.
When Wrath is released, T6+ Hunters without the legendary will be able to achieve damage output close to Star's Fury, however it will remain a top weapon for some time. Blizzard is reducing the status of pre-Wrath legendaries just as they did with pre-BC legendaries. Kil'Jaeden guilds, savor it while you can.

"im trying to explanation my coment in english, but i think its not good idea, becase my english is bad.
however, i think the blizzard use the wrong way to put this bow in game.
blizzard put the bow on last patch...and the smaller patch, this is "the lendary bow" and? u dont have time to go take, and when the WOLK start this bow not is more "good".
in short word this is my opnion.

Will be interesting if Blizzard change an old weapon when they remove ammo from the game entirely. This bow's best use at 80 is grinding, saving you gold when killing creatures for your daily quests and meat grinds.
With the ammo changes incoming soon, this bow will lose its extraordinary feature.
Anyway, this is a cliche but "old item is old", but legendaries will always have a uniqueness, except for this one.
Comment by
Celia
Because this bow ignores ammo DPS, this bow will become progressively weaker as the game marches on. In BC the best ammo was 53 DPS, giving this bow an effective 109.8 DPS. With the release of Wrath, the best ammo is 67.5 DPS, making this bow effectively 95.3 DPS. If the game lasts long enough for 162.8 DPS ammo to be introduced, this bow will basically be worth zero DPS.

Edit: The bow used to have
Legendary Bow Haste
as earlier it was the quivers or ammo pouches that gave from 10 to 15% (maximum, reached with last quivers pre TBC and constant thereafter) haste and since this bow generated it's
own arrows
no quiver was needed. With patch 3.1.0 haste was built into autoshot and arrows stacked to 1000 removing the
haste buff
from this bow, before patch 4.0.1 removed ammo in the game. It's still an awesome looking bow with a nice firing animation.

Today I compared this bow to some Epic Bows on PTRs from Pre-made chars. This is what I got:
Thori'dal, the Star's Fury
vs Bow
Siren's Cry
vs Gun
Giant's Bane
As you can see the Epics from
Ulduar
have a bit of a damage increase compared to the Sunwell Bow, but when you put down cost of Ammo and Ammo Pouches, I think you'll find that between those Ranged Weapons,
Thori'dal, the Star's Fury
is the most useful if you already have it from pre-WotLK. Otherwise with the 6% drop rate I'd say its not worth farming unless you've got a Guild who knows the place and you've got all that free time. (Or if you're just an Achievement Maniac and you want the
Feat of Strength
from the bow at all costs. :P) If you already have it though, and you're not a Tank ('cause if you are and you have that unless you re-specced at some point to Tanking you shouldn't really have that -saying this for Warriors-) use it, be grateful for the free Ammo and help some other poor bloke win his/her roll on his Ulduar Epic Bow/Gun. :P

this bow generates arrows, which will let hunters fill their bag with something else than arrows!
''Thori'dal generates arrows when the string is drawn''
. this effect also gives a 15% ranged attack speed, which does not stack so you wont get 30% by using a quiver.

as a hunter id love to have this bow no mater my lvl(currently lvl 80) i still think this bow is better then most bows c bows and guns in game, the speed is amazing with these stats it makes for the perfect weapon for any hunter spec, it could use a lil more agility but that's nothing that cant be fixed with a good scope. on top of that it dosent use ammo
if u get the chance to roll on this as a hunter (should have priority on need rolls for this or any other loot system) take it
alos a good weapon for any other class that use a some range to pull(of course u wont be using it to its full potential)

Do you even know what you're talking about?
The DPS I'm talking about is the DPS on weapon.
The Ulduar bows have weapon DPS of about 180. And that's without any arrows, which add a formidable amount of damage on their own.
This has weapon DPS of 162.8 and it's NOT affected by ARROW DPS because it doesn't USE arrows.
Even arrows available in BC granted 30 or more DPS to the weapon, which made this bow fairly comparable to level 70 epics of similar item level.
The only difference is that Steady Shot never took ammo/arrow DPS in consideration since it did Weapon Damage + Bonus Damage, and since Thori'dal had higher weapon damage/dps (which IS weapon damage divided by weapon speed), it would do a LOT more damage. On Steady Shots. Which were used by every spec back in BC, since Explosive shot wasn't yet in game.
And FYI, arrows' (and bullets, duh) own DPS is multiplied BY the weapon's speed. So an arrow with, say, 100DPS on a bow with 3 second attack speed would add 300 damage on every shot. Which is no joke, considering how right now, bows generally have some 600ish damage per shot, before AP and other damage enhancing effects taking place. And, of course, there aren't any 100 dps arrows... yet.
Oh, and if you DO only look at Steady Shot numbers, Thori'dal's damage would be obviously lower then Ulduar bows', but still at a fairly similar level.
(355+524)/2 + X + AP/14 = average damage using Steady Shot with Thori-dal, X being the bonus damage.
(387+661)/2 + X + AP/14 = average damage using Steady Shot with Siren's Cry.
Now, lets substitute 0 for X since frankly, X is the same in both cases and doesn't matter because it's the bonus damage on Steady Shot. And since hunters don't get a lot of AP from their weapon - most of it comes from their gear and their stat sticks since ranged weapons rarely have too much stats - maybe +/- 200 AP, no more. So the AP of a hunter wearing the same armor and spec using Siren's Cry will be vaguely the same compared to the AP of a hunter wearing the same armor and spec using Thori-dal, which lets us ignore AP in our calculation, since it doesn't have to be that precise.
So, what we're left with are 2 damage averages. 508 average damage coming from WEAPON alone per Steady Shot with Thori'dal, and 524 average damage coming from weapon alone per Steady Shot with Siren's Cry. Assuming the hunter has the same or similar AP, and the same talents which may or may not provide % increase to Steady Shot damage, the damage will be almost the same.
However, we must not ignore the fact that hunters do get a fair amount of their damage from Autoshots, especially since they can be fired while using Steady Shot. And in this case, Thori'dal loses miserably because it will only be able to do average of 508 damage on shot assuming the hutner has 0 AP, while Siren's Call with
\124h\124r");] these babies
will be doing an average of 524 + 67.5 X 2.80 damage resulting in 713 damage on average in the same impossible 0 AP and 0 mitigation situation. Which is a big increase.
So, yeah, I suppose if you have Thori'dal lying in your bank, it's certainly a good weapon to farm things, since they'd die quick in any case and you can just spam steady shot - you'd still do more damage then if you were melee, and you'd save the precious ammo which can be quite costly if you go out farming/PvPing/Rading often since the best ammo is player made at the moment.

My guildmates and I started a SW raid to help a level 70 in our guild. We only had nine people with the 70, so yeah, no go. We quit three pulls into it. But I'm a fresh level 80, and I STILL %^&*ING WANT THIS BOW. It's only got a stat loss of -3 sta and -11 agl compared to my current gun, everything else is BONUS. And not having to use ammo? I'd never get rid of it. Well, not NEVER, but you get the idea.
I would have a bank slot reserved for it, and pull it out every now and then just to sigh at it... = w=
Maybe I can bully my guildmates into doing a full-guild run of it. Or at least 15 people.

Up until they reduced the amount of saronite needed to make arrows, I was using this bow in heroics and in Naxx to save time farming. Its still a great bow to use when running around in the world and I occasionally get whispers when I'm seen using it :)

The Monday prior to 3.3.2 patch, we downed Kil'Jaeden and this dropped.
We were all 80s and I was the only hunter, though there was one rogue and two warriors who could also equip it.
By the time we sorted it out, no one remembered if they passed or greeded or whatever, so I Needed it and got it.
Not actually planning to use it, I then rolled off against the warriors and the rogue for who keeps it.
The rogue won, I traded it to her, she equipped, and got the Achievement, which we hadn't known about. She said that the 2 hour trade limit still seemed to be on it, so she traded it back to me, I equipped it, and also got the Achievement, and traded it back to her.
However, when she traded it to one of the warriors, he equipped it but DID NOT get the Achievement.
So..it IS possible to get more than one Achievement from one drop, but it may be limited by either two APs, or perhaps by the number of times it is traded.

If you view Thori'dal and
Abbadon
or any other weapon in the same column in the item comparison tool's 3D-viewer, it puts both of the weapons in the same hand and it melds them together to make one weapon and it looks pretty sweet with Abbadon in my opinion.

Come Cataclysm, the magical properties of this bow will be applied to all bows and guns.
According to
the Cataclysm Hunter Class preview
, ammunition will be removed from the game.
A major change coming for the hunter is the removal of ammunition. Guns, bows, and crossbows will now do damage without consuming ammunition at all. There will be no more ammo slot on the hunter’s character display.
This change will affect all bow/gun wielding classes. Existing ammunition will no longer have a function and will turn into a junk quality item.

I'm trying to get Thori'dal for my hunter and everybody says:"that's really hard to get why do you spend time in Sunwell Plateau trying to get it? It's so stupid!". Actually, is not. It has to drop to someone we must try if we want them... It's hard to get but when you have it you feel good because you went there thousand times but you have it! So if people keep saying that don't listen when you have it you feel great!

The bow dropped tonight (18/08/2010) for our guild, my hunter won the item.
It was our first Kil'jaedan kill so it was even more surprising. I'm glad to say this item will be put to its intended use instead of rotting away in a bag or in a bank slot on a character that will never use it. I only hope the other Hunters will have their Thori'dal soon as well.
If nothing else, the fact it shoots blue magical arrows is seriously cool. I prefer to sit on autoshot purely for the looks.

You wont get the Feat of strenth by trading the item around a raid (only the person who looted the item originally can get the FOS) However you will recieve the feat of strength even if you weren't the original looter of the item but had it traded to you if you xrealm with the bow (not sure if you need to equip after xrealm). I'm not sure if a race change would work in the same way.
Someone I know had the bow traded to them and of course didn't recieve the FOS at the time but when he xrealmed a couple of months later he did get the FOS.

This is by far the easiest legendary to obtain. All you need is for it to drop. Other legendaries are either crafted or a long quest chain (with the exeption of Warglaives, which have a smaller drop rate, and twice as unlikely to get).
This is definately a hunter weapon, but a warrior COULD use it too (never give this to a warrior over a hunter).

There should be a legendary quest for each class, with a super hard, long questline filled with outrageous achiev's, and faction grinding with each end game patch to the expansion with some kind of reward like this.
For instance, here's some questlines they had specifically for hunters;
The Ancient Leaf
or
The Green Drake
Seems they are now actually deleting these, shame.
I really miss class specific quests with epic/legendary rewards. No quest is more rewarding or fun to rush through and grind out.
Think of the play time Activision (vivendi), formerly blizz, whatever, would get from every person in the game from questlines like this. Geez, talk about missing the boat! And to think, you could have had a corner office with this idea!

Doing this raid in Cata took like 20 minutes of goofing around. The fight was a pushover, and I was just there on a rogue for the Sunwell achievement and maybe a little extra gold. Then the bow dropped. The 70 hunter RL freaked out, and more than half the raid (including healers and tanks) needed. I giggles to myself and said, "Sure, why not?" and needed too.
I won. I'm on a lvl 85 rogue
alt
and I won what my hunter would die to have. In the end, I gave it to the 70 hunter, but I secretly wished that I kept it all for myself. I hate having morals.
Edit: By the way, I had to equip it for the achievement. I don't remember seeing him get the achievement, so I don't think you can just pass it around and give everyone the achievement.

As of patch 5.0 this weapon can no longer be equipped by Warriors or Rogues this is due to the fact that proficiency with bows has been removed from both classes.
Which means it is a hunter only legendary as of this change.

Somewhere in the bowels of Blizzard Headquarters, the Item Development department had a meeting, back in the days of yore (or 2006-2007, if you prefer...)
Blizz Item Developer One: Okay, we've finished Warglaives of Azzinoth, they're one-handed swords that are dual-wielded, with Agi, Stam and Hit Rating, so obviously they're only gonna be for warriors and rogues.
Blizz Item Developer Two: But wait, what about hunters?
Blizz Item Developer One: ...What?
Blizz Item Developer Two: Well, those are excellent stats for hunters. They use Agi, everyone needs Stam, and they're big on Hit Rating. Plus they can dual-wield one-hand swords. They're gonna want to roll on them too, you know.
Blizz Item Developer One: ...Oh, right. Well, we can just class-exclude them, so problem solved.
Blizz Item Developer Two: But what about that new bow that's being worked on? Um, "Thorny Dal", or whatever-it's-called?
Blizz Item Developer One: What about it?
Blizz Item Developer Two: That one's not being class-excluded from all other classes other than hunters...
Blizz Item Developer One: Yeah, so?
Blizz Item Developer Two: Well, warriors and rogues can use ranged weapons too, so they'll be able to roll on the bow if it drops. So that means they can use the swords and the legendary bow at the same time, while hunters can't use swords that are good for them, and their legendary can be used by the two classes that are not excluded from the swords? Someone's going to figure that out eventually...
Blizz Item Developer Three: (to Dev 2) That's a good point. (to Dev 1) He's/She's right, wouldn't that be a tad unfair?
Blizz Item Developer One: Well, sucks to be them. If they want the swords too, they'll just have to re-roll. /shrug

Oh SURE, I can equip it and get an achievement and that's great but... ever since they removed the Shoot ability I cant actually FIRE the bow. All the anticipation, hearthing to Shrine running out to a test dummy right clicking... only to just stand there with my (Undead) claws at the ready. Oh I'm sorry, your character no longer has the mental capacity to ever pull the string back and fire it. I meant to post this back during Dragon Soul time, but forgot until now when I came here to find the Item ID for something.
Anyhow!
The achievement is only received when you both loot AND equip it. Meaning you won't get the achievement if someone trades it to you.
I hadn't known this when some friends and I ran, and a shaman rolled on it for a chuckle. He traded it to me, thinking I'd get the achievement anyway. Nada. I equipped it and everything, feeling sad that I'd still have to run SWP for the ach.
BUT
Later on down the road (About 4-5months later), I zoned into Dragon Soul to do an alt run on my hunter, and decided to use the bow for fun. BOOM, achievement appeared to everyone's astonishment.
I don't know what bug caused it, if any. But if anyone's had the same thing happen, try doing that. I hope you'll be as lucky and be awarded the achievement.
My hunter with bow: Lyrinana - Arthas US (I try to always log out with it on)

Anyway, I need'ed on it...then suddenly out of nowhere, the guild leader goes, "Hey, let's all need on it and give it to the hunter of the guild!" Everyone enebriated all rolled need on it...and gave it to some other hunter who quit wow the very next day. I was not thrilled at all and even briefly debated quitting the guild, but out of respect and honor of my friends, I stayed. Thankfully, that guild is now dead, and we moved servers on top of that. Here's hoping it drops again someday!

I decided to run this raid once again last night with a buddy of mine. I've run this place so many times ever since early Wrath, and up until last night I've only seen this bow drop ONCE in the years I've been playing WoW.
So I went in not expecting it to drop or anything, I didn't even hope it would. I guess the timing was right, or karma loved me.... I had taken my hunter which was the best part (I've run this on my warrior, paladin, warlock and death knight before), and the moment I saw it in the loot window, my jaw hit the floor!
It was a good thing my buddy was a shaman! He said "all you buddy :D"
So my advice to anyone else after this baby, just go in with it in your mind that you don't expect or hope it'll drop. I'm a very laid-back player, and usually just go along with friends with what ever they want to do. When my buddy asked if I wanted to run Sunwell for some transmogs, the bow hadn't even entered my mind.
That's five and a half years I've been playing WoW now (started in the Summer of '08), and only seen this baby drop twice now! (out of a couple dozen times I've run this raid)

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Warglaive of Azzinoth

Just leave legendaries as non-transmoggable
OR
I reckon legendaries should only be allowed to be transmogged IF and only if you earned it/ picked it up when it was relevant to your level (i.e. a 70 hunter picking the bow up during TBC with a group of 24 other 70s). That means you earned the legendary the normal way and not having someone help you kill the boss, solo it cause you're 20 levels higher, etc. It should also be earned when the expansion was relevant. Something like how the Zul' Aman bear mount was removed. (Although I think it's back.)
And if they want to transmog it, it should only be applicable to epic (purple) weapons in the content. (it's just silly to transmog a green/blue bow to look legendary).
This would mean that ONLY people who played during TBC era will be able to transmog the bow. I think this would be the ideal transmog law for legendaries. Having played this game for years, I think this would benefit the people who actually spent time to read up the fight, defeat the crazy boss and roll for it without having it ninja-ed (back when rolling for it was done by doing /roll).
As a hunter, it's already painful to see people running around wielding the glaives WHEN you know they solo-ed Illidan. It really diminishes the reward for putting the time and effort to earning it.

I was so happy this dropped bu then unworldly annoyed when i found out i didnt get the Achievement for obtaining it and then finding out i couldn't send it too my hunter.....now it's just sat rotting in the bank because i can't do a single thing with it =/

When Thoridal first arrived on the scene, there was no weapon like it. It was the first hunter weapon to not consume ammunition, making it ridiculously valuable for any hunter. Imagine, going to raids and doing content without having to spend massive amounts of gold refilling your quiver.
Blizzard eventually removed ammo consuming completely, a move many hunters still rejoice about and we love our extra bag slot to this day.

Ahhh, so after 1.5 years of farming every week for it, and 6 years of raiding Sunwell overall, my bow drops today and it is mine. Glorious victory. My hunter is now complete and it feels great.
This is a confirmation to all hunters out there still trying to get this bow, it still drops and no, you don't need to kill Kalecgos first.

Okay, very strange thing happened in the last 24 hours. On my hunter, I did Molten Core for the first time and both bindings dropped for me, and I got
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
in maybe 60 minutes worth of work. So I decide today to give the Sunwell a go for the first time on that same toon, my hunter. BOOM
Thori'dal, the Stars' Fury
drops. I feel that I am very lucky. So in an effort to make this informative this item still drops, so for the unlucky folks who are hunting for this, keep at it, it still drops.

So I solo'd Sunwell for the first time on my paladin, defeated Kil'jaden got the completion achievement, look at the drops, and to my surprise, both the bow AND Golden Staff of the Sin'dorei dropped. I was mad that I couldn't equip either of them, but whatever. The bow shall forever remain in my bank as a symbol of my luck.
Anyway, it appears that you don't even need to equip it anymore for the guild achievement. As soon as I picked it up, I earned the achievement. So for those guilds who are still missing this weapon for the meta achievement, fear not! Any class can go and get it, and simply pick it up.
Unless it just bugged for me.
Either way, this game just likes to screw with you.

Well... I decided to take my mage for a run through the Sunwell last night. Just for the hell of things and to see what I can get (collecting mats for one of my other enchanting toons)... and after killing Kil'jaeden I wander over to loot his rotting corpse. Not really paying attention, I notice a flash of orange flash past.
Yes... it was Thori'dal dropping on my freaking mage.
My hunter is now over in the corner crying his eyes out because I didnt think to take him along for the run instead of the mage.
Needless to say, I am a touch disappointed now. Stoked to have a legendary item drop for me... pissed off that it was on the wrong toon.

Twice now has the second to last boss on Sunwell Plateau glitched up on me and the entrance + exit to the boss' room remained closed, even after I defeated the boss.
Does anybody know
what
causes that glitch to happen? Or if it even happened to anyone else? Because this prevents you from reaching Kil'Jaeden at all until the next weekly reset, and the drop rate on this bow is already low enough.

I'm currently using this bow on my lvl 70 hunter for gits and shiggles, there is speculation that
Golden Bow of Quel'Thalas
is marginally better, but I prefer the haste on Thori'dal. I've found a decent transmog set that to me compliments the feel of a high elf ranger-general who might use a bow similar in design. The set uses
Radiant Set (Recolor)
with
The Wavemender's Mantle
as shoulders and
Malefactor's Eyepatch
as a helm. This set would easily compliment
Golden Bow of Quel'Thalas
at lvl 100 for full transmog purposes and you can use whatever cloak/tabard you feel befitting of it. I've chosen
Tabard of the Shattered Sun
, but
Tabard of Summer Flames
/
Tabard of Summer Skies
both work well with this set as well. The visual look of the auto-shots firing from this beauty are still tons of fun to view when blowing up regular BC dungeons with this thing.

Dear diary,
Today, I got my first legendary item, ever. I was farming for the new 6.1 pets, and I got this really cool bow. On my druid. Right after my hunter finished doing the same raid.
At least my one-person guild got 20 achievement points out of it, I guess.

After about 100+ runs, this wonderful legendary bow drops for my Hunter. I remember seeing it ages ago when it was current, and another hunter grabbing it. I'm glad I don't have to go to Sunwell Plateau ever again.
Comment by
Neutralagent
For timewalking this is actually favourable for both Burning Crusade and Wrath dungeons since the Wrath dungeons scale items down to 160 and this item is 164, oddly enough the damage per second apparently goes up when it scales down for wrath for some reason.
Comment by
RegaliaX
Can anyone please confirm if this bow really has an extra "oomph" in Timewalking BC dungeons? There are legendary items that add special effects to the wielder in Timewalking (like
Shadowmourne
), but Thori'dal's effect was to ignore ammunition, which no longer exists.
Is it worth taking to Timewalking dungeons for damage and effects? Or just to "show it off" (as if no one else has it already).
I've compared damage roughly with the information given in the character pane, and when I equip Thori'dal, I deal less damage with it than with a "downgraded" bow from WoD.

Obtained on my first ever run through Sunwell on a boosted Hunter in Legion. After reaching level 108, I decided to run things for xmog Sunwell Plateau being the first area. As Marksman, I was aiming for the Golden Bow dropped from the twins. Saddened that the bow didn't drop, I proceeded to the end of the dungeon where I met Kil'jaedan, swiftly excecuted him and sat in amazement looking at what was looted before me. The . I don't know the drop rate so I don't know if to consider myself lucky or not.

This item has rather unfortunately been changed since Legion launched... Once upon a time it's auto shot had a very unique animation, a trail of starlight following the arrow, it was beautiful and amazing... And then Blizzard mucked it up, and accidentally (I assume) used it's animation ID for the Titanstrike gun and changed that ID's animation, now both of them use Titanstrike's lightning bolt bullet...
RIP, Thori'dal, RIP.

I was thinking about legendaries this morning. I have always said BOA was the worst idea Blizz ever had - taking away any interest in drops, while leveling.
If I had my choice though, I would scrap all regular Heirlooms and simply allow Legendaries to all scale, so we can keep the dang things, having put so much time & effort into getting them in the first place.

A similar bow can be found in the 1998 Disney tv-series Hercules.
The Armageddon Bow
will also conjure up a magical energy arrow when the string is drawn. There may be other examples of magical bows in popular culture that doesn't use arrows. Please elaborate on this if you have any idea were the concept may have originated.

Didn't even realize I didn't have this beauty until a guildmate posted about it.
Seems I was conflating it with the Golden Bow of Quel'thalas, which I DID have already.
So, I picked up the Sunwell grind again and just now got it after about four months of grinding across three different hunters (I would have been downright depressed had I strolled in there with my other max characters and it dropped on, say, my shadowpriest.)
Keep running it! It will drop!

After years of farming it on multiple Hunters and Rogues, it dropped on my newest Hunter’s first run. I don’t know if it made any difference, but I unequipped her bow and fist fought Kil’jaeden through all of his phases. I killed all of the adds and went reeeally slow.

Just a few comments - This no longer has the green arrows. Whether it is the actual bow or in transmog, even if I try it now, it shows more of a sparkly white color when it shoots.
I do want to note that I did not receive this from the Sunwell raid. I received mine from the Emerald Dream. I was already a 120 (BofA) player (SL had just been announced). I was bored and working through old content. I decided to run the Emerald Dream raid; it was not easy, even at my high level. It took me some time to get through it. But the final box that dropped was the bow. I had not had a nice bow drop in a long time, so this was a massive transmog upgrade.
I've yet to have another bow that looks this good.

Too many runs to count and several breaks in between later, it finally dropped this week for me. Ran weekly on 4 characters who can all use bow (2 warriors, 1 hunter and 1 rogue). I've taken months breaks between expansions before going back hard again grinding for this bow. It finally dropped on my hunter a few hours after realm reset for the week. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm 200-300 full clears since it drops from Kil'Jaeden.

Unfortunately the Feat of Strength is still unobtainable if you cannot equip it.
