Do not be misled by the name and wings on the model. This pterodactyl follows the traditions of mount types 黑暗之星的灵爪飞鹰. The ground mount.

Mount was'nt able to fly on beta. I hope it is not a bug but intended, and it's kinda funny, because 1) It has fly mount model 2) During the questchain you teach him to fly..., but end up with ground mount;p

On Beta to "teach" the mount to fly you had to jump off the platform outside the kings room in Zuldazar 10 time. This continued "leaving the nest" is what turns the ground mount into a flying mount.

The whole quest chain is about how he doesn’t manage to fly, so it is intended as a ground mount. -But- he should break all fall damage and have a glide, because that he could do. Make him a bit extra, like the waterwalk mounts.

I got mine today, really happy with him even though he doesn't fly. Well worth the dailies in my opinion. You start feeling attached to him after he hatches. The fetch game was probably my favourite and I recommend being prepared for a lot of flight paths!

I just got this lovely child today and I have to say, I love the story and the questline behind him. I can understand that people are disappointed that the mount cannot fly but look at it this way, from Kua'fon's potential point of view.

He was an egg that you found, thus he was potentially abandoned by his parents/lost/whatever reason. When he hatches YOU are the first thing he sees, not another pterrordax or anything with wings that can actually fly. So, you are his mother essentially and because you do not have wings you aren't going to really be able to teach him to properly fly.

A baby is very easily molded by the things that raise it. So, your character doesn't fly so why should he? Demon Hunters can glide, we have Goblin Gliders that help us to glide but that's it... GLIDING, you're not actually flying. As the one quest goes, you are 'falling with style' with a kite from the cliff. We can only fly with the help of mounts, which currently cannot fly until the next Pathfinder part is released. Though honestly, I don't see him ever flying even with Pathfinder.

Basically, Kua'fon is influenced by your character as his mother. Does he want to fly? Yes. Can he potentially learn to fly? Yes. But he seemed very content at the end of the questline to simply be your companion and he wanted to continue going on adventures with you. If he could have a little extra like a glide or slow fall from high places that'd be a nice little bonus but I do not feel anything is required for this beautiful mount.

He's amazing, I loved the quest and story behind it and I love his design! By far I love him to the Pterrordax you get from the Zandalari Empire rep because I like the lack of armor over the armored one.

Edit: Okay, I was not expecting any upvotes on my little ramble. Thank you for those! It does mean a lot to me that people would upvote this.

Edit Edit: I had actually forgotten about Druids with their Travel Form ] my apologies on that. Either way, most of the classes still don't have a true way to fly until we get Pathfinder. Again, apologies to druids... it's been awhile since I played mine so whoops!

mfw I spend a month training this !*$# and then finally get him as a mount and he can't fly. Not just can't fly in BfA zones, because of course not, but also can't fly ANYWHERE.

Yes, I now see in my mount collection that it says "he never learned to fly."
Yes, I could have learned this if I'd read everything on WoWhead.

But like.....ugh.

Unless this leads to yet another month-long grind after Pathfinder is over, or he eventually somehow otherwise gets flight....why would I ever use this mount?

I just think that winged mounts on the ground are dumb....and that's all this is.

Blizz.....why. Is it supposed to be charming? Am I supposed to care about the story? Are you just $%*#ing with me for spending the time on this?

Horde-only, no alliance equivalent, therefore you can't see it under the "uncollected" category in the mounts tab and literally wont know it exists if your alliance until you see other people with it.

Beautiful ground mount, though not my favourite, but it still brings back memories about the old Venomhide Ravasaur questline, since you have to raise him too and turn him into a mount, so probably will get attached to it the same as the Venomhide Ravasaur that I still use from time to time. Probably a shame for some because it has wings but can't fly (same history as the Lord Raven, has wings but can't fly) but still it's free and it's another one to add to the collection. Still better to get it via daily questline than your farm-this-raid-boss-every-week-until-you-die mount.

I finally got the Pterrordak Egg to drop after killing about 200 different Pterrordak mobs all over the map. It dropped for me north of the Great Seal in Zuldazar.

The sound files used by this mount are buggy and out of sync, so feel free to report the following issues:

It makes the flapping wings sound while falling down, even though Kua'fon doesn't flap its wings.
~~The screech sound of this mount isn't synchronized with the animation when you use /mountspecial~~

EDIT: 8.1 is now live and they've fixed the sound sync issues with the /mountspecial
The issue with the flapping wings sound while falling down is still there though.

HUGE waste of time. cant believe i just finished this quest chain to discover its not even a friggin flying mount.. >:( and to whomever said your its mother you cant fly so it wouldnt be able to which made sence at first thought, but after you think about it. you arent its mother. you might have rescued it, but it lived up with paku or whatever its name was. if it was our companion through growth i could understand your point. but GRRRRRR very upset about this mount. i was really looking forward to it, now its already going off the favorite list and into the archive.. sad. i really liked it.

Kua'fon learns to fly in 8.2, confirmed!

There will be 3 new mounts available for purchase for 90k in patch 8.2, which require exalted with Talanji's Expedition, Voldunai and Zandalari Empire.

And guess what, they will all be the exact same model as Kua'fon, but with different color schemes.

I was enjoying taking care of Kua'fon until he grew up into a beatiful mount..but since I found out about this..it kinda deflated my excitement.

As of 8.2, there will be a questline that will allow Kua'fon to be a flying mount. So he'll still be relevant when flying goes it. : )

My Kua'fon is only flying at 150% speed. Does anyone know if that is intended or a bug? The achievement doesn't say anything about him flying slower on purpose. He's only slower on the character that earned him to begin with. All my other characters fly him at their trained speed.

库亚冯 is able to fly now and grants 驯龙高手. Simply visit his nest with the char who completed 驯龙高手. You'll see a quest mark on your Zuldazar map, offering 相信我.
I've read that for some people he has just 150% speed, but mine has 310% so there could be a bug in some cases. No speed issues, not even on an alliance alt.
~~He currently can't fly in both Garrisons (霜寒晶壁 and 坠落之月), maybe another bug.~~
Patch 8.2.5: Kua'fon can fly inside Garrisons.

It's kind of ridiculous that a rare drop item that also takes a month to get the mount is just another reskin of a this model. Would have been nice to see a you know, unique mount for such a long quest chain.

Kua'fon and I have been friends ever since he saved me from the big fall. He's my hotkey go to mount. So I was in my Garrison the other day (you all remember that place right?) Hit my hotkey to go check out a few things and to my surprise, little Kua'fon was grounded! What? Say it isn't so! Poor little Kua'fon has worked so hard to learn to fly and you ground him...why blizz why? Come to find out, he can fly in Draenor, just not in the garrison. I've noticed a few other places he is unable to fly in as well. This surely isn't helping his confidence at all :(

Is this the actual name?

The reason I ask - is because he doesn't show up in the Mount Tracker on here. He doesn't show up in the Collected/Not Collected Mount tab of your character. He just doesn't show up - at all, anywhere.

Show me a screenshot where he actually shows up in your character's Mount collection tab (or Not Collected)... That brings me to the question - does he not show up until you get the egg or the quest or does this still even drop?

Don't bother grinding for this mount if you're not also prepared to grind out the BfA flying. You get the mount, but not the quest to allow it to fly. So it's a ground mount until you grind out flying in BfA. Pretty annoying for anyone starting or returning to WOW with Shadowlands.

I take it this mount is no longer available. My horde girl was checking her mount collection. She had everything checked. When she searched for Kua, nothing came up under collected and not collected. When she did a search on pterrordax three came up. Two were collected one was uncollected. None of them were Kua'fon.

If you're sorting by newer comments, this is a ground mount until you acquire 奇迹之翼2.0版, then you return to Pa'Ku to turn it into a flying mount.

Aww! While looking at obscure mounts folks may not know about due to old xpacs (and not playing both factions), this one popped up, and immediately, I thought, "The WoW version of Scootaloo from MLP: Friendship is Magic!" She's a pegasus that isn't able to fly -- even has the same pinky-purple/orange coloring as that little pony. <3

Yes, this is what having children does to you ... forever wondering if it's OTHER parents putting nods to the IPs with which they're also being innundated. lol

I don't normally post comments, but I had a hell of a time finding useful info on this page, since most comments are people opining on their personal opinions of the mount or just complaining. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't come here for peanut gallery comments, I come here for help/useful info.

So, I felt compelled to comment for anyone farming this mount post-BFA that doesn't know where to start, because I sure didn't.

First off, you need to get a Pterrordax Egg drop from killing specific mobs in Zandalar.
The Pterrordax Egg page will show you all the mobs that can drop it...

But personally, the best farm I found was killing Bloodraged Pterrordax in Dazar'alor at /way #1165 41.4 15.4 Bloodraged Pterrordax
The mobs are on a balcony area at the northwestern part of Dazar'alor and they respawn very quickly.

Bloodraged Pterrordax respawn quickly and it's easy just to path back and forth on this terrace, continuously killing as they respawn. I've seen comments on the Pterrordax Egg page saying people got it to drop anywhere from ~150 kills all the way up to 2000+ kills. The average seems to be around 600-700 kills. (Mine dropped right at 607 kills)

Once you get the egg drop, you can start a quest line beginning with A Child of Pa'ku which will lead you through about a month of daily quests to earn this mount.

This Wowhead Guide will walk you through the quest chain, with Down But Not Out being the very last quest in the chain that awards this mount.

Hopefully this helps others that spent way too long wading through whiny and unhelpful comments on this page, like I did. If you have actual helpful comments to add or any corrections/better farm spots to mention, please reply here to help others. Good luck everyone. <3
