I really wish the skull had to do with different demons that just the imps, and the active ability was something more along the lines of "Sacrifice your current demons to summon a PitLord whos damage is based on the health sacrificed" or something like that.

for those of you who wonder what "man'ari" means:

remember the draenei ? they called themselves "draenei" as it means "exiled ones".
originally their race was called the "eredar".
but when the burning legion came to their homeworld "argus" - they offered the eredar a deal:
they could all enlist to the legion and gain tremendous power.
at that time there were three leaders: velen, kil'jaeden and archimonde.
velen received a vision that made him deny the deal and some followed his decision.
all the others who accepted the deal are called "man'ari".
they are the reason why velen and his followers had to flee in the end and ultimately become exiled.

Thal'kiel is quite a chatty fellow and tends to occasionally provide advice and mock the wielding Warlock. I'll try to give a list of things he says during various situations. I will update the list, if I find new things. All of them are voice-acted.

Why is the INT stat so low on this artifact compared to the other spec artifacts, even compared to HFC loot. I know it has spellpower but isn't INT the most important stat?

So... having got 2/3 of the artifacts, I picked up the quest for the Demonology Artifact, but held off.

Later, forgetting what the quest was about, I used a glider from Dalaran, and completed the scenario by landing in the zone... instead of using the portal.

Got the artifact in the 6th stage but quest was still up when I got to Dalaran.

Went into the portal and re-did the scenario... but now I can't pick up the skull, nor can I get rid of the artifact in my inventory.

Ticket waiting, but ooooh boy. Between this and good ol' Greymane and the Sky Admiral swimming in Stormwind Harbor, I've seen two doozies.

If you reset your artifact weapon (the talents/traits) you DONT lose any artifact power except for the artifact power you pay for the reset!

I'm just going to throw this out here. I was in an LFR and I came across this demo lock who had the hidden appearance unlocked, but his Skull was MASSIVE. It was the size of a Tauren. I checked the guy out and he had no other buffs up that could change his model. I asked him about it and he said to "interact" with it. I just unlocked the hidden appearance myself and have been search high and low for this command. If anyone has any idea of what it is I'm talking about, feel free to reply to this! Thanks.

Doesn't anyone else feel this is a rather disappointing artifact? Like destruction gets the staff of sargeras himself and affliction gets a less related but incredibly legendary and powerful scythe with steals the power from those who fail to wield it but demonology just gets a #$%^ty little talking skull off of a random demon in the legion? Like I get thal'kiel is thal'kiel but can we get someone who is important lore wise? all he did was get killed by archimonde and became like the skull of guldan that illidan had...

Thal'kiel could mean "unseen soul".

(based on that "shaza-kiel" means "surrender your soul" and "Thal'kituun" means "unseen guest".)

The concept of this weapon is very similar to the skull "Morte" in the signature game "Planescape: Torment".
The way it floats next to your character, the way it talks...

Happily (or frightfully?) when an offhand is transmogrified into this former legendary, the whispers STILL do "nag" you, on occasion. But, it doesn't seem to be at the same 30% rate as before. But still you get a few whispers now and then, so, Happy Transmogrifcation! (Happy Hallows End? maybe that's it since it's that time of year now.......anyway....nice to have it back if only temporarily...)

If you're like me, super late in the game and gaining new artifact appearances for our good friend Thal'kiel... Don't despair if the new appearances don't show up in the transmog menu. I had to log out, and log back in for them to appear, and sometimes the preview of the mog doesn't match the new appearance-- but once you submit it, the correct mog will appear.

I'm struggling to use this item for transmogrification purposes and thought I'd make a post to list some observations, and to see if someone can point out where I'm going wrong, or if any other players are experiencing the same issues and this is a bug that needs fixing.

Essentially:
I am not able to use this as transmog for an OH weapon whilst in Destro spec. It's not an option from the Legion Artifacts drop down menu whilst in Destro spec. The Spine of Thal'kiel is not in the One-Handed Swords drop down menu, so I cannot do it that way either. If I switch spec to Demo, then I can transmog my MH weapon, but when I switch back to Destro the transmog effect gets removed from my weapon.

There's an article on the Blizzard Support Pages and in that article one paragraph states:

Understanding the drop-down filters

"If the transmogrifier doesn't show the appearance you want to apply, check your filters and your current talent specialization.

Selecting Legion Artifacts will show you only the artifact appearances for your current talent specialization. For example, if you are a Druid in Guardian spec wielding a staff, the drop-down will show you the Claws of Ursoc appearance, and not the Scythe of Elune appearance as this is a Balance spec artifact. You can apply Claws of Ursoc to your staff (because artifact appearances ignore general restrictions as explained above). You can also apply the Scythe of Elune appearance to your staff, but to do this you will need to select the Staves drop-down, not the Legion Artifacts drop-down.

Selecting any drop-down other than the Legion Artifacts drop-down will show you the appearances that can be applied to your currently equipped weapon. Following the Druid example, if you are a feral Druid wielding a staff, you can transmog your staff to Scythe of Elune using this drop-down."

This doesn't appear to be the case though. Unless I'm in Demo spec then this just isn't available to transmogrify.

Transmogging weapons to the Skull of the Man'ari (while Timewalking Legion and after Legion)

You can transmog any weapons useable by a demonology warlock to the appearance of the Skull of the Man'ari and Spine of Thal'kiel.
1.	Be in Demonology spec.
2.	Equip your current weapon(s) in the character pane: staff or one-handed wand, dagger, sword plus off-hand.
3.	Use the Guide, Demonology Warlock Artifact Weapon: Skull of the Man'ari, to pick a transmog for Skull of the Man'ari and the matching Spine of Thal'kiel. There are screenshots for every skull in the game. Notice the appearance of the dagger, Spine of Thal'kiel below the Skull of the Man'ari you want. The transmog is based on the dagger you highlight. The matching skull is automatically selected.
4.	At the transmogrifier, first click the main hand weapon box. Pick Legion as the weapon type. You’ll see all the main-hand weapon appearances you’ve earned for the Spine of Thal'kiel. The color of the skull is based on the color of the blade or the color of the gem in the hilt. Pick an appearance. Now click the off-hand transmog slot. Do this even if the slot is empty because you're transmogging a staff. If you're transmogging a one-handed weapon and an off-hand, you'll notice the off-hand slot takes on the appearance of an Eredar head or skull. The off-hand transmog window shows the Skull of the Man'ari that matches the Spine of Thal'kiel. The skull panel will be outlined in pink and the skull will be floating in the panel. You can move the cursor around, highlighting other skulls with a blue outline. But an appearance with a blue outline will not transmog the Skull of the Man'ari. To pick a different skull, return to the main-hand weapon screen and pick another dagger appearance. Then click the off-hand box to see the corresponding skull appearance — which will be outlined in pink. Can't I just pick the appearance I want for the Skull of the Man'ari from the offhand screen? No. It would make sense if you're transmogging a one-handed weapon with an off-hand. But it doesn't work. Try it. The off-hand window doesn't have a radio button for Legion artifacts. But you'll see all the skulls if you start on page 1 and tab through appearances. There will be a pink outline around the skull linked to the last appearance you selected for the Spine of Thal'kiel. You can't move the pink outline. If you're transmogging a staff, you'll get an error message when you click on the off-hand box.

Dagger styles match the Activity groups listed in the Artifact Forge display. But at the transmogrifier, there are no group labels for different dagger types. Here are the groups:

Skull of the Man'ari: Class Hall related quests.
Gaze of the First Summoner: Class Hall Campaign completed, Artifact traits and research, rare Archeology finds.
Pride of the Pit Lord: 8 World bosses, all Legion Dungeon achievements and one mythic 15 dungeon completed.
Burning Remnant: PVP honor levels.
Soul of the Forgotten: Mage Tower (Mage Tower has been removed).
Thal'kiel's Visage: Hidden Appearance.

Changing the appearance of the original artifact weapon in Timewalking Legion
Travel to the Warlock Order Hall in Dreadscar Rift and use the Artifact Forge.

While in the Demonology spec, equip the original Skull of the Man'ari in the off-hand weapon slot on the Character Pane. The game automatically inserts Spine of Thal'kiel into the main-hand weapon box. It’s not in your inventory.

Travel to Legion Dalaran. Enter the Dalaran sewer entrance near the long stairs to the Violet Citadel. There’s a streetlight near the entrance. Walk down the stairs. You’ll see the Ogre Classic Larry. Turn the corner and go through the green portal.

In the Dreadscar Rift, run uphill past the demon warriors lining the ramp. They’ll salute you. The Artifact Forge is a metal ring on the ground filled with fel (Coords 34.36. 29.25). It’s at the edge of a fel pond. Stand near the metal ring. A book appears. Click and select the Appearances tab. Select an activity line and click on a color square. You’ll see the Skull of Man’ari.

I just want to transmog my weapon(s) to the Eredar head (Thal'kiel's Visage)

Be in Demonology spec and equip any usable weapon(s) for the spec.
At the transmogrifier, click the main-hand weapon slot. Select Legion as the weapon type.
Look for the Spine of Thal'kiel style with a chain connected to the hilt at two points. The color of the Eredar head will be the color of the dagger blade.
Now click on the off-hand slot to see the transmog for the Skull of the Man'ari. Do this even if the off-hand slot is empty because you're equipping a staff. A pink outline shows the matching Eredar head.
If it's not the color you want, click on the main-hand transmog slot and pick again.
