Alrighty, this quest is vague a little. Many times there have been "group" quest that you can solo or only do with 2 or 3 people (when it asks for 5), but this quest you probably would want at least 4, if not 5, for this quest. The fluid that is given to you has a very long cool down, and you have to use it more than once on the cauldron of your choice (there's 4 in the building I think). When you use the fluid, hostile mobs will come out in groups, some being elites.

Other than that, it's VERY easy and you can probably two man it if it wasn't for that cool down.

It's possible to do this with 3 people where AT LEAST 2 people have to have the fluid and the quest. You need to use the fluid on turns with 45-50 seconds between. The hard part about being so few is that just ONE hit will interrupt the fluid and it will be on CD. It this happens with only 2 people having the fluid, it will fail.

Did it with this setup, but took like 7-8 tries.

Tried this a few times with different groups on different days.

Went into the room at 62, 63 where Coprous the Defiled is. went to the left side. standing near the cauldrons using the fluid gets a "invalid target" error, standing anywhere else gets "Requires Mord'rethar Plague Cauldron" error. Cauldrons are not targetable.

what am I missing?

I have a problem with this quest: We are standing in front of the cauldrons, but all it does is "no valid targets". however the position is correct.. what are we doing wrong?

I was able to do this quest succesfully, so atleast it shouldn't be bugged. The one cauldron that did work for us, was on the left side near the back wall, when facing Coprous the Defiled.

The range is maybe 20 yards, and we had to cast the fluid several times, and a couple times someone got hit and the fluid was on cd.

We were 4 people and everyone had the fluid on them.

Unfortunately, Blizzard pretty much forces you to do this one with multiple people seeing as how even though I am able technically able to solo it I can not successfully do the second fluid because of the cooldown... Ya. Pretty stupid.

Did this as feral druid with a shadowpriest by my side.

I started the quest with using my fluid.
A mob emerges and we fight it.
The shadowpriest took his turn with the fluid.
And when it was my time again I shadowmelded so the shadowpriest got all aggro. Then I used my fluid.

Rinse and repeat.

It appears to either be a respawn timer on the cauldrons or this quest (and daily) is bugged. Last time we did it all but one cauldron only gave 'no valid targets' when we attempted to use the Fluid nearby. This time, none of them worked.

So, either a longish respawn timer, or it's bugged somehow.

Impossible to solo even if you were somehow able to deal with the adds. The emote messages telling you when to put the stuff in happen before the cooldown is even up. I tried getting to a spot out of LOS of the mobs to try and evade bug them using my Demonic Circle teleport ability which seemed to work until it failed due to the cooldown on the item being %^&*.

Highly recommend not doing this quest until it's fixed, it'll just lead to frustration. Not only can the possible bugs mentioned above occur, also the raid warning announces when to add it for different people at different times, so it is impossible to tell when to use it. Also, it may say to add "now" and in reality, adding it at that time may possibly fail the quest. Not worth it.

Could have solo'd this, except I was defeated by the cooldown.

The adds weren't bad (80 tankadin); knocked me down to half health before they were all dead. But as mentioned, you need at least one other person with the vial because of the cooldown.

Just did the quest with 4 people, no problems if you have that number, to do it with any less would require a couple of people probably well co-ordianted or using team speak or ventrilo.

Im a level 80 DK and i managed to do it easily after a few tries with another 80 DK. The trick is to rotate the uses of the fluid between party members.

Let's say that I begin using the fluid. Then when the time comes to use the fluid again (a warning will show up on the screen telling you to use it again) then I have to get all aggro off my party member so he can safely use the fluid. Then the next time he has to get all aggro so i can use the fluid and so on.

The reason why is because the fluid has a 1:30 min CD, making it impossible to be used by the same person in a row.

The mobs will spawn in three waves and can wary on each wave:

1. 1x strong ghoul (around 66k hp)
2. 2x weaker ghouls (around 25k hp or so)
3. 8x (around 8) slimes (around 12k hp, make sure to aoe these)
4. 4x (around 4) slimes and 1x weaker ghoul

Make sure you use the fluid when the warning pops up. If you are to slow you will have to re-do the whole thing again from the first wave.

Duo'd this on the first try as an elemental sham with a dk, if you can dps everything down quickly it's no problem rotating only 2 cooldowns.

First and foremost, this is an endurance quest.

Understand also, that adding the fluid is a channel effect, being hit will interrupt your adding to the cauldron, and will put you on cooldown. This is why you need to have a group to do this. Just having all members add the fluid at once will not work. They have to be added over time.

We started with our tank, he added first to start the event ... then had ranged dps add when the warning pops up. Keep your eye for this, it gives you a "heads up" then an "add NOW" -- you should start when that "heads up" comes. Waiting for the "NOW !" can be too late if you get interrupted, as some of the things that come from the cauldron has the cleave ability.

Having the fluid on a hotbar is recommended as well. Looking through your bags to find it at the right time is costly.

You cant solo this. This is a 2 man job because of the fluid cooldown.

Paladins, you can use Divine Shield and then use the quest item. Just make sure your mate can handle the punishment he is likely to receive when you dump all the mobs on him.

Just want to contribute with my little experience on doing this quest with 2 people.

Me (prot pala) and a buddy of mine (holy priest) , have just duo'ed this quest 5 min ago, in this following manner:

I started the event by using the "Pustulant Spinal Fluid", Some monsters came and I got agro, when the message came to add more "Pustulant Spinal Fluid", the priest used her. All The event through I had the agro, and it went smoothly. When the time came for me to add "Pustulant Spinal Fluid", I used my bubble, added the fluid, and all this time through (those 5 seconds or so) the priest had all the agro, but could perfectly heal herself through the damage. The 4. time the fluid had to be added the priest used her "Pustulant Spinal Fluid". Just a few seconds after this the mobs had been killed, so I had no use for another bubble when it was my time to do it again. After I added the last fluid, the 5. time, some more mobs spawned, which had to be dealt with, and the quest completed.

In short,
1. fluid - prot pala
2. fluid - holy priest
3. fluid - prot pala (with bubble and priest healing though dmg)
4. fluid - holy priest
5. fluid - prot pala (with all mobs dead, so no interrupt)

Have fun doing this rather amusing quest ;)

2-manned it with lvl80 DK's, one dps, one tank specced, both in blues. DPS took rounds 1,3,5; tank took rounds 2, 4. This way we were sure that the tank would easily pull aggro for the last round to free the DPS.

Worked like a charm - get the critters down as fast as you can, eat/bandage between rounds, and make sure to keep DnD available to grab aggro from the other guy when he needs to do the fluid.

As of 3/18/09 the quest is still bugged. Talked with a GM and they said they are aware of the problem and unsure of when there will be a fix. Informed me to just keep an eye on their forums for information on it. In other words, still broke after four months and no end in sight.

As of Patch 3.0.8 the quest is sometimes bugged, it depends. Just start over if it is bugged and you failed.
Just go inside the "building" at the Gate of Mord'ethar to the south.

YOU WILL NEED A MINIMUM OF 2 PEOPLE
I did this with a hunter with tank pet(gorilla, but any tenancity pet will do in patch 3.1) and a balance druid with dpsed and healed.

You'll see there's a room of undead. At the end, there's a boss for another group quest by the same quest giver.
To the left you'll see 3 green couldrons. Clear the area.
Choose the cauldron and always pour the soloution in this one. the reason why you need 2 people is not only because of mobs, but the solution is on a 1.5 min cd
1. First person will pour it in
2. Undead waves will appear from the cauldron. It will either be 8 slimes, 4 smiles/1 80 undead elite(he isn't too hard tough), a lv. 81-82 elite, or some other combination(I'll need more data on this).
3. WHEN A WARNING POPS UP THAT THE COULDRON IS ABOUT TO FAIL, A DIFFERENT PERSON MUST POUR IT IN. The first who first did it will have his item still on cd.
(one bug is that the warning message that you need to neutralize the solution doesn't appear).
4. Keep alternating between people, but the waves of undead are somewhat hard to duo. (5-manning this will be easy) and you'll eventually get it done.

Impossible to solo, you need to put in the spinal fluid in 35-45second intervals and the cooldown is 1minute and 30seconds. Find a buddy or a random person to do this quest with if you think you can manage it with two people.
Easiest way to do this is taking turns adding the spinal fluid as soon the the cd is up. Dont wait for it to say add soon, just add it as soon as the cd is up. The spinal fluid must be added 4 times total. Oh yeah, make sure aggro is off of you before you click the fluid or the channeling will be completely canceled and you will have to start from phase 1 again.

Entrance is at 63.4 / 62.1 on second lvl not the ground lvl area.

Also note you can do this quest with Neutralizing the Plague. So if your going to help someone with this quest my as well pick this up so you get something out of it.

That is of course considering you did this quest already which opens that daily up to you.

For those of you still having problems with this quest I've found a much easier solution to completing it. It requires only 2 people.

Simply have your character and a second party member die behind the cauldron. There is a small ledge that you can fly on top of as a ghost! It's not the skull up on top, but a small area slightly off the ground.

If you are a DK, you can make the jump while in Unholy Presence. My friend didn't have any gear with any sort of run speed or haste pots and couldn't make the jump from the ledges on either sides of the area.

Proceed to complete the quest as normal. The mobs will all evade bug while allowing you to complete the quest.

I tried to do this quest - first with 3 people. then 4, then 5. It didn't work. With 3 people we did get the message "Neutralized Plague Batch", but it was still not complete. With 4 and 5 people the quest didn't seem to work equally for all of the group members. I give up, it's not possible to do it - for me anyway.

Try finding someone else on this quest to help you. The cooldown is really stupid. Since when did it ever matter to Blizzard that an overgeared player is doing PvE quests that give rewards that are vendor fodder?

Turns out you cannot be interrupted if you use the fluid.

1) Enter Mord'rethar at (63, 62).

2) Hang a left and find the cauldron.

You will need to add fluid to the cauldron at certain stages. There is a cool down on the fluid, so you need atleast 2 people taking turns adding the fluid. You will see emotes on when to add the fluid. Something like "Add fluid soon!" or "Add fluid now". Things seem to work best if you add the fluid right when it says "Add fluid now".

Throughout the event you will get several waves of undead poping out of the cauldron. Some waves have a bunch (like 8ish) of non-elites, some have 2 regular elites, some have 1 elite that's a bit tougher.

Ok, I found an easy solution to this annoyance. You still need one more player with the same quest, but you don't need to fight. Go inside the vault and find the cauldron in back with jars. Hop on the top of the tallest jar. NPC can’t attack you now. Simply use the flask in rotation when it says add liquid until done.

A little-known quality of the flesh giants...

Their spinal fluid interacts with the plague in a very interesting way, turning it into a corrosive acid.

Poured from the towering ramparts, acid may not be a welcome sight to the troops below, but at least the victims won't rise up and add to the enemy's numbers.

Pour the contents of this flask into one of the plague cauldrons in the western chamber of the death gate.
