Remember that quest you did in Zul'Drak exploding the trolls? This is basically the same thing. You kill a cool and loot its guts, then use the item the quest giver gave you and run it up to the Deathgate, gather some mobs and BOOM!

i dont get a pet bar either. however still uses the basic pet controls.

ctrl+1 = attack
ctrl+2 = stay
ctrl+4 = flatulance
ctrl+5 = explode

The pet bar appears to be working now.

In order to complete this quest go to 70,61 and kill some abominations. You're going to need more than one chilled abomination gut in order to kill enough mobs to complete the quest.

Re-animate one, and send it into the group of mobs to the northwest. Round them up via attack and flatulate. When you get close to death use "Burst at the seams" which will suicide your abomination and blow up the mobs attacking it. Repeat that a few times and you will complete the quest.

Make sure you're close enough to get credit for the quest when you blow your abomination up. Also, this turns into a daily quest with the same name. The daily quest does give experience and money, but obviously no other reward.

Caution for pet classes!

Currently, using the quest item while you have a pet out gives an error "you already have a pet", eats the reagent, and puts the quest item on cooldown.

This is what I did.

Please note that while he does not disappear while you mount up, you can not use Abomination abilities.

What I did (I had an epic flyer) was raise an abom, mount up, and fly over the mobs I needed killed. When I had enough mobs gathered up and the abom was almost dead, I dismounted and immediately blew the abomination up. Took 3 or 4 fly overs.

Note: you'll probably get blown into a mob or two, be ready for that.

This quest, like the majority of the other quests involving the new interface, is bugged .. big suprise right? *sigh* Why cant blizzard show some standards and fix whats broken, or admit it cant be fixed and just say " Release your pet before attempting this quest"."Make sure your not mounted before attempting this quest" I didn't even have a pet out before i started, i was mounted and no matter how many times i get the "guts" and resummon the thing it doesnt display the pet bar, this includes logging out of the game, closing the game, removing all addons, restarting and logging back in. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can fix this?

To ensure you get credit for corpse explosions, do the following:

- Stay VERY close to the abomination when pulling + exploding - you should be knocked back from the explosion
- Don't pull too much - 6-10 per pull
- Use discretion when using the "flatulence" ability - make sure to wait a few seconds after using it before detonating the abomination

I found this quest to be quite aggravating, until I worked out how to ensure getting credit for the kills. I hope this helps others avoid potential headaches. :)

As a priest, shield your Abomination before sending him in and you'll be able to pull more mobs. Casting a Prayer of Mending is also quite useful.

This is waht i do, round up about 30 mobs with it this way.

buff it with fortitude.
top it up.
bubble it.
put a renew on it.
send it in the to the furtherest mob, creating a train of mobs.
heal it when it stuns the mobs,
round up more, bubble & PoM.
BOOM!
profit

I found that DBM 4.05 caused the kills not to be recorded. Also some one mentioned that you needed the abominable to be under 2K life which is not true. I was able to get my last icy ghoul with the abominable at full health.

Friggan aggravating quest. It would be a LOT easier if you took direct control of the mob like other quests rather than trying to control your character as well.

It's a PITA trying to stay close enough to get credit, but far enough away to avoid agro while using it's abilities to gain mobs and keep an eye on it's health... this usually results in the mob dying early and you it's adds.

Oh, and I forgot. If you're too close to the mob when it explodes you'll be knocked out of 'credit' range and it won't count.

Nope, now it seems that I'm unable to get credit for kills irrespective of how close/far away I am to him when he explodes.

My advice, skip this quest.

Druids: Use Flight Form when having the Abomination do his thing; if any survive (or he dies before you can hit the Explosion), they won't be able to come after you!

Not sure if this has been said before, but if you're not getting credit for the kill's, make sure you're using "Flatulate" and let it finish, and then use "Burst as it Seems".

edit: stay in range of your abom, and try to explode your abom when he's still around 45%

Ok i didn't understand this quest at all here is what to do:

1) Go to the broken front
2) Kill an abomination (LOOT THE GUTS)
3) Summon it with your bag, get on your mount and put it on PASSIVE
4) Run into a bunch of mobs (around 7-10) and press Burst at the Seams
5) Redo until you are ready

This quest was utterly miserable for me, on an 80 hunter. Here's how it went for me, assuming you started with pet out.

1. Kill a hulking Abomination, loot it.
2. Unsummon pet.
3. Summon Abomination.
4. Send Abomination in, blow up a bunch of mobs.
5. Re-summon pet.
6. Return to step 1, until quest kill requirements satisfied.

...and if you try to summon the abomination while your pet is out, you get an error, it consumes the looted item, and puts the quest item on a cooldown.

Utterly miserable. Never doing that one again.

What an utter wast of lvling time (And Gold for repaires) abandoned it after 2 hours.
Its all very well taking it round to get a big mob, but when u want to dissmount, IT follows you (as does the mob).

I recommend you all not to do this quest at The Broken Front. There are simply to many mobs. (Not rogues, druids, etc., they got stealth!)

I did it, died 3 times, and it would be like this.

I finally get my quest item, so I can summon my pet. Awesome. I run in, pull alot of mobs and kill them with explode. Easy, now the annoying part! You have absolutely no choice now, but die. There are mobs everywhere, you can't flee! If you're lucky you can mount up on flying, dragons will appear and apperently kill you.
In case you die, the first thing you'll notice, when you ress is that you're in combat. But it's worthless to kill, because you somehow just summon other mobs that will attack you, too. And this will keep on going till you've completed the quest. I got so frustrated about I was near quitting it. I absolutely hate it. One of the worst quests, ever!

The most reliable way to get credit for the kills seems to be to obtain the guts, mount up, gather the mobs, dismount, THEN summon the abomination and explode.

Even though this quest is extremely bad, you must do it if you want the loremaster of Northrend achievement. What I did was used MYSELF to get aggro (im a frost tank DK) popped my icebound fortitude and other tank abilities so they wouldn't hit me when I rounded em up, used the quest item (insta cast ftw) then just clicked the explode button. NO mobs attacking you? Getting all the mobs in one pull? HELL YES.

I found this to be quite a different experience for me than others have described it. Here is what I did.

1. Kill an abomination, loot it for the guts.
2. Fly to a point near the battlefield, checking to make sure there are no nearby mobs to aggro.
3. Summon the pet abomination.
4. Select the pet and set focus on it so you can always see its health.
5. Select a mob in the battle area, press CTRL-1 to have the pet attack. Select the farthest away mob you can see.
6. On the way to the mob you told the pet to attack, it will aggro other mobs.
7. Pay attention to the pet's health. If it gets too low, explode it immediately with CTRL-5.
8. If the pet makes it to the mob you told it to attack with some health left, select another mob it hasn't aggro'd yet and make the pet attack that. Repeat from Step 6 until you explode the pet.

Be aware that if there were any mobs that aggro'd the pet but did not get exploded, they may start coming after you next.

Now some people have said things about "being close enough to the mob to credit for its explosion". I can tell you that I just did this exactly as I described and got credit, despite being outside the battle area. I don't know if that was an old problem that was fixed or changed, but what I have just described does work at this time.

if you by any means have trouble with this quest, then get a tank and let him agro a bunch of mobs.. and boom credit ^^

helps a whole lot with making this easy, myself being a druid firstly tried in resto keeping the abomination alive without any luck.. then first try as feral tank :D

As a warlock, it is important to note that health funnel will work for your abomination, making it possible to pull very large numbers of NPCs without having your pet die. I also assume mend pet would work for hunters.

I don't understand all the frustration with this quest. You're probably not intended to get it in one go, that's why there's several very lonely Abominations in the areas immediately on the edges of Mord'rethar.

I found the quest really fun, so I'll share what I did and see if it helps. I was using a flying mount, which helped a lot:
1. You can land on the broken rocky areas east and west of the gate's foundations to get an aggro-free but close-by spot to summon the Abomination.
2. Set it to Passive.
3. Mount up and glide just over the heads of the huge mobs of undead in front of Mord'rethar, your Abomination will match speed to your flyer as you drag him through things. This means he'll get tons of aggro, but nothing can catch up to hit him yet.
4. When you've got a massive, seething mob chasing him, quickly dismount (you'll take trivial fall damage) and Burst at the Seams, killing everything and preventing you from getting aggro.

This does take some alertness to make sure of 2 things:
a) The mobs are bunched tight enough to be hit before you Burst. They'll be trailing you in a long column, so give them time to "train wreck" into a big mass.
b) You're not landing close to unaggro'd undead, which will notice you when the explosion knockbacks you a fair distance (I got kicked into groups of mobs several times until I learned to spend an extra 2 seconds making sure the surrounding area was safe before dismounting).

If you blow your Abomination and don't finish the quest — don't worry! There's plenty of abominations just southeast/southwest of Mord'rethar (in the east, especially, they're very isolated from other mobs). Go get another guts and repeat the process.

This quest is acuatlly easier than i first though.

Heres a simple walkthrouw:

1. Kill "Hulking Abomination" and aqquire: - You can only carry 1 of them - you need about 5 to complete quest. Find them at: 70,61.

2. Then go out, and sommune the Hulking Abomination and then let him pull alot of mobs and then explode him when there are alot on him.

--- dont stay too far away from him!

the key to this quest is patience. and accepting that your abomination is not elite. and that a lot of people, including some game designers, find it funny when you die.

unlike every other mob in the game, these mobs *care* about each other. i don't know how or why. they will notice any explosions in the vicinity and come looking for you. it's not enough to simply send your abomination into a crowd and blow it up. surrounding mobs (in a wide radius) will be unhurt but extremely peeved. there's a sadistic bugger somewhere in Blizzard's design departments.

obviously, the more mobs you aggro with the abomination, the faster it will die. that's not rocket science. but in this case, death will occur faster than you expect it to. maybe the abomination has zero armor... or at least, pretending it has no armor will give you a good estimate of how long it can take the beating. (not as long as the Zul'drak abominations)

my suggestion: find a spot at the edge of an area where a lot of these mobs are found. a spot where wandering mobs won't trip over you. i like the little cubbyhole against the wall at around 70,50. that's just east of the easternmost "door" in Mord'rethar, if you don't have coordinates. but if you don't have coordinates... get coordinates. it's not hard, and it makes using these comments a lot easier.

once you have a spot picked out, summon and deploy your abomination from that spot. round up a few nearby mobs (like 2, plus the ones who proximity-aggro) with the abomination, bring them partway back to you... at least 20 yards from the nearest untapped mobs. make sure you have enough time to make him stand in one spot for a second so the stragglers can catch up. then blow em all up. fly out and get some more guts. rinse and repeat.

take a few mobs at a time... a small enough number that you can kill them if the abomination dies prematurely. be patient.

i was impatient, and died 4 or 5 times, and got quite annoyed, so i feel the pain.

I recommend against doing this very buggy quest. If you are careful you can blow all the mobs up and not have any left alive to come after you after exploding the abomination. However, no matter how close you are, whether you have stunned the mobs or not, you will still often not receive credit for kills. If the abomination is on top of you, you may not receive credit; if it is far enough away that you don't get knocked back from the explosion, you may not receive credit; and if not a single mob is stunned and they are all beating on the abomination when you blow it up, you may not receive credit. Avoid this if you enjoy questing at all.

I think what pisses me off the most (besides the 20+ gold spent in repairs)is that this quest is a prerequisite for another half dozen or so quests that I'm simply not going to be able to do.

I've tried this quest at least 10 times (probably more, I've lost count).
I've read WoWhead and Thottbot, and I've tried everything they suggest.

I kill the abomination, get the guts, build the construct, and send him after the mobs. I've tried flying alongside, going in and staying close, even getting right into the mix. I've blown up my construct with good health and with less than 2,000 health. I've had him fart first, and I've tried not farting him at all.

After so many tries I don't have even ONE <beep>ing kill -- not ONE!

I blow the guy up; I get knocked back, and then all the mobs attack me, kill me, and damage my equipment for 10% each time.

Sorry, but I don't like this quest. There was another much like it in concept back in Zul'drak. But that one worked; this one doesn't seem to want to.

Be sure to dismiss your pet BEFORE you reanimate your abomination, if not the abomination won't reanimate and you will lose the guts! And you can only get one set of guts at a time.

Never ever go too close to the gates with the abomination, if the region name change to Mord'rether, it's game over, so in preparation hide any sharp object that can cut human skin for your self safety.

That's Abominable!

Thassarian on the Skybreaker wants you to use the Abomination Reanimation Kit to create a Reanimated Abomination, which you are to use to kill 15 Icy Ghouls, 15 Vicious Geists, and 15 Risen Alliance Soldiers.
