I use this ring, and it has improved my DPS in raids immensely. I would judge the proc rate on this to be 5%, and it will refresh itself in AoE situations, such as using Hellfire in Core Hound packs. It took me from ~10th in the damage meters when I didn't use it, to 1st, until the hound packs when the mages violated me :(

Anyways, its better as a use in a raid situation, and I think warlocks can benefit most from this, as it increases Life Tap, and increases DoT damage as well. The 10 seconds is a very tight window to try and get a nuke in, so just go with instacasts unless your in a raid.

I'm using this ring, and I would say it's 5-7% proc chance.
Kinda unbalanced tho... Sometimes it never procs at all and sometimes it rolls 3 times in a row.
Procs a lot in AoE tho.

I have this.

It's awesome.

Proc's on all spells so far and proc's fairly often especially during boss fights.

Requires Exalted rep with Cenarion Hold though.

Walking, just to clarify...

The proc isn't unbalanced, but works like any other proc. To say it has a 5-7% chance to proc doesn't mean that if you cast 100 times, it'll proc 5-7 times. What this means is that every cast has a 5-7% chance to proc, and then that random is reset for the next cast. It's all based on a random equation.

Ironfoe for instance has a wierd proc rate too.. Sometimes it'll never proc on it's own, but every once in a while it'll triple stack procs off of each other.

This ring is not a ring you should be wearing all the time - assuming you have other rings with fixed +spell damage to switch to. This ring is excellent for AoE, but it also rocks immensely for Affliction Warlocks - the proc chance works for every instant DoT spell, and the +damage scales really well with the DoTs too.

For boss fights, you're probably better off with a fixed +damage ring. Biggest disadvantage of this ring is that you can't count on the proc - which is the whole idea of a proc.

Gives a chance when your harmful spells land to increase the damage of your spells and effects by 132 for 10 sec.

Not sure about locks but this ring is incredible for arcane mages, at this time (2.2), there's no hidden cooldown so each arcane missle hit can proc it. Arcane missles hit 1 per second so if you were spamming missles, every 20th missle on average would proc it for 10 seconds (affecting 10 more missles). So 1/2 of your missles would have the benefit, so equivalent to a +66 dmg trinket, similiar to a 70th epic trinket (considering use effects).

With a 5% proc chance, it procs on average every 20 casts.

Using Frostbolt as the spell of choice, on a 2.5 second cast time, 20 casts are completely every 50 seconds.

The proc itself is up for 10 seconds, meaning it is up 1 in 5 seconds.

132 / 5 = 26.4 spell damage on average

This is just to help compare the ring with other rings such as Ring of Spell Power from MC which is actually better, and a lot easier to obtain. Of course, this ring is situational, and in a AoE situation is far better.

No, there is no cooldown, this ring can trigger multiple times during a single AOE attack. If the ring triggers when its already active, its 10 second timer starts again and it keeps working.

I'm playing classic style wow, with experience stopped at 60 and I can say this ring absolutely rocks during raids or any instances where AOE is needed. I would say the chance that this triggers during a multiple target blizzard is about 80%, and and its 100% chance if your hitting say, 5+ enemies at once. Many times it triggers over and over so will last much longer than 10 seconds. Sometimes I notice 4 or 5 triggers during a single blizzard spell. During a recent blackwing lair run, I would take a wild guess that this ring triggered for me at least 100 times. Arcane explosion also triggers it very often and arcane missiles, but the real weapon to use it with for mages is blizzard.

Doing all those badge quests was a pain, but I was able to solo ALL of them as 60 mage, including the abyssal dukes. Totally a worthwhile investment of my time, and I don't regret getting this ring one bit.

Obviously this is an AoE ring. I have discovered a combination of a ring and trinket that would be devasting using Channeled AoE spells such as Rain of Fire or Blizzard.

Zandalarian Hero Charm.

This would increase your AoE dps on any fight, such as Garr, by an insane amount.

Just use your Zandalarian Hero Charm then start blasting away with the Channeled AoEs.

Don`t know how to calculate the proc rate but the ring is amazing,what`s weird that sometimes can`t proc a single time,i was fighting onyxia and didn`t proced the entire fight.But sometimes can proc 2-3 times in a row and it`s very helpful.I`m sm/ruin lock and have like 231 spelldmg from my items and you don`t want to know what can i do when the ring procs while nightfall :) boom 2k sb`s in a row !

Anyone get it and know something about the proc percentages? As already said, if it proc often enough then it's maybe worth the farming. Every 12th spell would be about 8.3%

Mind that it's a "Chance of Spellhit", you couldn't trigger it by yourself as an ToEP oder ZHC, so you must wait until the proc is up and then use the trinkets for maximum BAM! :D

OK, here's my attempt at quantifying this rings value :

Assumptions :
(1) 5% proc from shadowbolt.
(2) Player has 2.5s shadowbolt cast.
(3) 5% proc from corruption tick.
(4) Fight against mob with infinite health (I'll address this shortly).
(5) No overlapping procs.

The number of proc chances per minute is 44 : 24 shadowbolts and 20 corruptions.

Each proc has a 5% chance, so "on average" you would expect to get 2.2 procs per minute - each lasting 10 seconds. So that's about 22 seconds of bonus damage per minute.

Averaging out that damage over the whole period, you are looking at 132*22/60 +dmg - which is 48.4

There are 3 factors which will reduce this.

(1) the fact that you're not often casting shadowbolts non-stop. Corruption only would still give 20 procs per min - or +22 dmg.

(2) overlapping procs - It's my lunch break and I haven't got time to go into the math right now - but I doubt it's gonna amount to more than a 5-10% cost.

(3) clipping - the mob may die and you've got a proc still active - this is incredibly small factor.

So in conclusion, the value of this ring could be anything between +22 and +48 dmg.

I would say it is best suited towards bosses which you blast without fear of aggro - e.g. vael or ragnaros.

It would be poorly suited to trash.

It is also well suited to PvP - if my assumption about the proc rate triggering from corruption is correct.

lets assume a likely 5% procrate, and lets assume you re spamming scorch (1.5 sec cast).
So for any given scorch after the 6th you had 6 chance before to get the proc that would affect the current scorch => 26,5% (1- 0,96^6) that the current scorch will have the proc.
Therefore all scorches (After the 6th) on average gain 35 extra spelldmg, which makes it about equal with Ring of Spellpower for sustained DPS but only on Scorch, not on slower spells, and only for casts after the 6th. => I wont bother

Having a better 2h weapon and better trinkets, I decided to try out the Wrath of Cenarius on my paladin.

After extensive testing, I have not been able to get this ring to proc on anything other than Judgement of Command, Judgement of Righteousness, Exorcism and Holy Wrath. Strangely, I have not had it proc on Hammer of Wrath yet.

The proc rate for a paladin is very low, considering without talents you can only judge every 10 seconds. Also, the damage increase on paladin holy damage seems to be scaled to the damage effect, and that for paladins the added damage should read "by up to 132". Not sure if that is the case for all classes that use this ring.

For a paladin, this ring has the most potential as a tanking ring while tanking undead. More holy damage equals more threat. But, that is a very narrow use. For increasing damage output in general, a paladin would be better off with a +str/+agil/+ap/+crit type ring.

i'm not sure about this seeing as i've just got the ring... but from what i can tell the proc rate looks to possibly be effected by cast time. i done a few tests and got procs more often using rank.4 SB (2.5sec cast) than rank.1 (1.2sec cast) 'tis very random though... not sure yet as to if it was worth getting it yet... will hopefully know during MC this week ^^

the only interesting thing is: does it proc on every single arcane missile hit like the blue dragon trinket (from darkmoon faire) does since 1.9?

that would make it really useful for pve in combination with arcane missiles. otherwise its pretty inferior to everything else available. using it with frostbolts etc. results in too few proc chances to add a significant amount of avg dmg.

and for pvp its mostly useless anyway, as fights tend to be short. getting that thing activated on ur 6th-7th spell doesnt help much when ur opponent is almost dead or even just died ...

As of 1.10, it seems they nerfed the amount of spells of which this ring can proc from. It procs of aoe effects like frost nova and cone of cold, but NOT arcane explosion (have not tested blizzard yet).

I just got this ring today and I can say this ring was made for the warlock.

I just been testing while collecting shards and it procs off all the debuffs you cast. Procs off all curses including the ones which don't do damage.

It procs as soon as the spell is cast.

This is perfect for Warlocks who cast lots of debuffs.

Thank you blizzard for putting this ace ring in game.

I don't know what to make of this ring. The proc of it, while pretty cool, seems to make it dangerous to use in high-end instances like BWL where spikes of high DPS can pull aggro and wipe the raid.

In PvP, this would be pretty awesome for spike DPS for the same reason. If the 5% can proc on ticks of DoTs, like Nightfall procs on ticks of Corruption for Warlocks, this would be an awesome ring for Warlock PvP. Corruption, Immolate, CoA, etc. etc. all ticking on multiple targets could create a huge jump in warlock PvP dps.

Just want to warn people, 1.10 has changed what procs the ring now for a warlock.

It only procs from direct damage spells (Shadowbolt), corruptions and aoe.

Not sure if this was a nerf or a mistake, I hope it a mistake or I have wasted so much time to get this ring :(

Graphical Pleasure
When the ring procs you will hear a sound highly resembling the sound from being hit with an earth shock, this impression is increased with the graphical effect that follows, first you will spark sligthly with lightning for 1-2 sec then you will emit smoke from the middle of your hitbox for 1-2 seconds, you'll leave a track of smoke after you(Good fun!) during this duration.

Other players will both see and hear this effect, they will also get the message " gains Spell Blasting."(The name of the buff) if they have Spell Alert.
The icon of the buff is the same as the icon for Arcane Power(Lightning thingy).

Clarification about proc rate and proc mechanics
The proc rate of this thing is atm 5% on all kinds of offensive spells, this includes DoT's(one from the debuff landing but not from the ticks), Curses, Detect Magic and multiple proc chance while AoE'ing sevral targets.

A proc can overlap a buff already in progress, so it's possible to, in theory, walk through and entire MC run with the buff active during each fight. While doing AoE'ing sessions the buff will most likely be active during the full duration of the fight, good examples are the supression rooms in BWL and the AoE-tunnel in AQ40, you will love the ring there.

When frostbolt spamming this ring isn't much better(or even worse) than Ring of Spell Power, but the use of this ring is highly situational, while doing Arcane Missiles it procs like crazy, 5% chance on each hit of each missiles, and while AoEing(as I mentioned) it procs like a mad man.
I have both Ring of Spell Power and this ring, and after extensive testing, this ring is better for both dmg and pleasure.

Known bugs
At the moment I only think that there's two active bugs with this ring.

First: Procs on detect magic, making it possible to spam DM untill you proc the ring then pull the mob.

Second: This one is way more serious. Since this ring probably uses the same kind of mechanics as Clearcasting the old bug from clearcasting has been inherited to this ring. It CAN'T proc on blizzard and possibly not on Rain of fire either. This is seriously annoying since the use of this ring greatly increases while AoEing.

Upcomming changes to Wrath of Cenarius-mechanics
These notes are from the current test realm patch notes(1.10)

Wrath of Cenarius will now trigger off all damaging spells.

Either this mean that they have fixed some of the damaging spells that it doesn't proc on atm, or it means that it won't proc on spells that's not damaging the target.
- Update - Wrath of cenarius still doesn't proc on Blizzard even though this note in the patch notes for 1.10. =/

Detect Magic - This spell no longer triggers procs on the spell caster. This was being abused to land debuffs without getting on the creature's hate list.

This most likely means that you can no longer spam Detect Magic to gain the buff :/ Not a big drawback if they fix that it doesn't proc on Blizzard.

in 10 sec you can pull off 3 frostbolts
3*132 = 396
Ring of spell power gives you 33, so 396/33 = 12.
It needs to proc every 12 spell to be as good as ring of spellpower, so if it's a 5% proc it's only a fun item.

The comment about this being dangerous for instances like bwl is just a myth. Go bwl and try it.

I have ToEP instead of briarwood reed, even though they are basically equal, but i can chose when to use ToEP. I can't chose when to use this ring.

I just got the ring today and proc percentage is decent,when procs i can cast 3 sb`s if i`m in the midle of the fight,help a little bit to crit higher than normal,so my average crit dmg is passing 1600 now when procs

As an AP/ice mage, i recently did this quest in silithus, took me a few weeks, but i finally have it!

As I used the ring a while, i gradually learned more about how it worked, what worked with it, and what didn't. Thus, here is my report:

Against the ring: 5% proc rate means that you'll not often get this from just spamming frostbolt. Frostbolt + Fire Blast maybe, but that's not how you want to proc it on boss fights.
Yet to see it proc off of self-buffs.

For the ring: Detect magic procs it atm, meaning you can spam it before you fight something like the trash in DM east and then start the fight, but it's being fixed next patch so *shrug*

But the best things about the ring is that you're not holed into hoping it will proc with just plain old frostbolt, if you want to proc it, here are the best ways of doing it:

-Spam Detect Magic
-Use Arcane Missles (hopefully the new rank)
-AoE, 5% chance to proc on 20 mobs = this will pretty much stay procced the entire fight, helping a lot :). For Example, if you're at razorgore and they just got to phase 2? If you just aoe the adds you're pretty much guarenteed a proc
-Spam Rank 1 Frostbolt, mine do 130 per cast, and at its insanely low mana cost, this is not a bad thing to use.
-DoTs, this is unconfirmed but apparently it procs off of dots, so casting a low rank of fireball can give a really high chance to proc it
, especially with a low rank of arcane missles, and you're almost guarenteed to proc it.

Basically, a really fun ring, where it's only downfall is on quick fights say against another mage where you pop everything the instant you see each other.

Btw, consider speccing into Arcane Subt.

I've noticed that this ring procs A TON when I use AE on the trash mobs leading up to broodlord and fangkriss. Also, hint hint, nudge nudge... for PvP when I've got nothing better to do I spam rank 1 arcane explosion and get a proc fairly quick... lol

Great effin ring though, I currently use it with the ring off the Prophet... nice combo imo.

Ive had this ring about 5 days now. My warlock has gotten procs from Shadowbolt, corruption, siphon, and drain life for certain. I may have proc'd off other spells too when I wasn't specifically testing what procs and what doesnt. I did spam searing pain for an hour to the tune of zero procs. At this point I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the proc rate of this ring. Yes the proc rate is fun, but this ring is CERTAINLY not better than the ring of spell power, and I cant even say for sure that its even better than an underworld band. Like anything with a proc chance, it does tend to be streaky, going long periods without a proc, then going off 3 times in one minute. Maybe the random number generator simply hasn't favored me, and it will swing back, but wanted to put my 2c here.

hrmmm i am really dismayed at how awfull the proc rate (3-4% ?) for this item seems to be!

I have jsut got the ring (but have been intensivly testing in Raid, grinding and some pvp) so cant vouch for how great the proc may have been in the past... but atm it seems like i completely wasted my time doing the 20x logistics tasks etc in order to obtain this ring - infact i wish i had taken the Rockfury Bracers for the +1% to hit and +27 spell dmg from the 'lesser' set items :(

imo this ring sucks for pve and pvp equally - any time i was lucky enough to have it proc the mob is almost dead so the actual receved +dmg is tiny.

save your time and dont get this unless Blizz buff the proc rate fast... comparing this to Eathstrike which is a 'on use' item with a CD i know what i would rather have had instead of a chance on proc that i estimate to be @ about 3-4% atm...

1) 5% chance to proc. So if you're using AoE on trash, this ring will proc very often and add more damage than any other ring in the game basically. Much like Blade of Eternal Darkness, the procs should happen very often when hitting multiple targets at once.

2) Is 5% chance good when hitting a single target though? Let's do the frostbolt math(fireball/scorch math is a little complicated, since you'll be using both, but basically amazing for scorches and really bad for fireballs). 4 amplified frostbolts out of 20 averages out to 26.4 spellpower per frostbolt. Which is quite bad when compared to other rings. However, a mage could effectively amplify that number by using it with temporary powerspikes like Arcane Power, MQG, Presence of Mind, Combustion, Power Infusion... And it does seem plausible - some fights, you know you'll only be able to use your powerspikes once, so might as well wait and see if the proc happens to sync it up.

To sum it up, I think it's a godly ring for AoE and mixed fights, even despite the fairly lackluster scalings on most AOE spells. For single target DPS, it's situational at best - an average of 26.4 spellpower is very poor, even if you could "game" it with active effects. It's even worse for fireballs, but scorches compensate it, making it very close to the frostbolt average.

Spelladins might be extremely interested in this due to using Fiery Plate Gauntlets / Storm Gauntlets which deals magic damage with every melee swing that counts as a spell (we use it to trigger Vengeance). Spelladins also attack really quickly with Manual Crowd Pummeler on bosses, so shouldn't be a big problem getting it to proc.

I just tested "blade of eternal darkness" with arcane missiles on my mage. I can confirm that I got more than 1 proc from the blade within 1 channel of arcane missiles multiple times. I don't have this ring, however the tooltip is the same, so fingers crossed. Perhaps this ring can proc multiple times off arcane missiles too.
