Blizzard changed the flasks from being two (2) hours to one (1) hour because of people fitting their raids to the flasks duration which was not intended.

Tested it this afternoon, and the increase seems to be about 320 more health gained, so 1620hp in total

You're mostly right, but they will more often replace yellow sockets than red sockets due to pure yellow sockets only yielding defense rating as a viable tanking stat, also almost any gem fitting into a yellow socket is sure to have defense rating. Those who don't like the defense rating (Those who are capped) and would rather go for pure avoidance/migitation or just health, which is needed at times are going to use a 41 stam gem to fill a slot that with the socket bonus grants avoidance and such. Generally you shalln't gem for parry/dodge unless in dire need, of what I've heard, so let's throw that out of the window.

Red sockets usually yield expertise or strength in terms of tanking stats. If expertise is capped, (Warriors and DKs, heard that Paladins don't use Expertise much and Druids have it passive?) you'll go for strength (Warrior/Paladin) and you can never get enough pure stats, therefore a Dragon's Eye is more often replacing a yellow socketed gem than a red one in Warrior/Paladin/DK terms due to Str giving block, or in DK terms, parry rating (4 str = 1 parry rating, IIRC).

If you want to be class specific, this'll be more liked by a druid/DK than any class due to their 25%/5% (?) stam increase. All classes have talented stamina, so let's skip that, whilst DKs have a bit less than all other classes. Not only that, but druids and DKs don't benefit from Def Rating being over cap as a pally/warr due to they will lose out on avoidance as they can't block. Therefore they will probably gem "a bit more" for parry/dodge on red ones rather than waste a red one for some stamina that could be put instead of "useless" def rating. Now to not forget that Druids don't use Def rating at all. Hence yellow sockets (Which I don't think even exist that much on druid tank gear) will be replaced by 41 stam gems.

This is atleast my point of view and I think many people share it.
(Sorry for some bad explanation at some points, I'm not really that great at it :])

The worst part about this giving a straight health increase is that there are virtually no tank abilities that give an actual buff to health; they're all buffs to Stamina (Frost Presence is being changed from 10% health to 6% Stamina in 3.2).

I think that it should give enough Stamina to equal a base value of 1300 health; that way, it will be able to scale with all of the health-increasing tank abilities.
Either that, or it should give other bonuses as well (Armor, resistance, anything).

If you are an Elixir Master, you will be able to proc any of the flasks in Northrend (as well as the old school flasks)

So, I have to ask. What's the point of this potion? Compared to the other Flasks, it's absolutely terrible. Is there any situation in which it's actually useful? Am I missing something, or is it really as bad as it seems?

Well it's worth to mention that Death knights have some added benefit from this. Death strike give you 10% (with two diseases up) of your total health. 1300 more health is a flat 130 healing increase. Not a whole lot but everything helps.

Yellow sockets are also useful to help get hit capped, which isn't a necessity, but can be very useful if your threat gen is low. My Prot warr's health is a little over 32k unbuffed, 40k buffed, but I gen more threat than many tanks I know who have 3-4k health over me. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because someone has 47k health buffed that they can actually hold your aggro :/

It should be noted that this lasts twice as long for alchemists. So, that's half the cost over the long term for these. It helps lessen the costs of raiding. This goldsink bonus isn't present in any of the other professions.

Blacksmithing gives 60 Stam
Enchanting gives 60 Stam
Inscription gives 40 Dodge(ilvl Equivelant of 60Stam), yet it is not stam.
Jewelcrafting gives 63 Stam(Dragon's Eyes are no longer prismatic)
Leatherworking gives 62 Stam
Mining gives 60 Stam

I find this flask rather underwhelming.

I'm peaking up to 50k+ in a raid now and 1.3k more health rarely seems worthy of the gold investment. Either I'll dip below a thousand health or so and pray I had about 10k more health, or I won't even come close to dying.

Sure, every little bit counts but this little bit is pretty expensive...
