Very happy to report I got one in Storm Peaks from Ice Thorn after 20 minutes or so of farming. Probably same rarity as the Fel Lotus

Edit to add, 5 minutes later I got another one, this time from Lich Bloom. Plants can also drop 2 lotus!

I think this is definatly a good change, pretty much summing up to Lotuses dropping randomly from other plants but ALSO from their own plants.

It cuts alot of the random factor out, putting more consistant lotuses in the hands of the farmers themselves, compared to having to pretty much rely on the AH for a consistant flow of lotuses vs alot of farming.

Until recently I thought frost lotus were like Fel Lotus in that you could only get them from picking other herbs. But I found two within 10 minutes of each other growing in wintergrasp, both times growing under trees.

The screenshot clearly shows the lotus can in fact be free-growing, but so far nobody seems to have reported picking any on their own in this state except in wintergrasp.

The Frost Lotus is currently the highest level herb in Wotlk there is, and is likely to stay the highest level herb in this exspansion!
The Frost Lotus is as the previous Lotus; the Black Lotus (Pre TBC) and the Fel Lotus (TBC), used in Flasks, wich is the most common use of the Lotus plants.
F.ex. The pre TBC Flask: Flask of the Titans, and the TBC flasks like: Flask of Fortification

The latest member of the Lotus family, the Frost Lotus, is for now only used in the making of any Wotlk Flask and one of the three level 400 Alchemy stones.

Sidenote
In Pre TBC, only 4 Black Lotus could be spawned at any given time. One per zone could be spawned at a time. The spawn time for Black Lotus was between 45 mins to 1 hour 15 mins.
This was later changed in patch 2.1.0, so that the Black Lotus could be herbed by herbable mobs.
I doubt the Frost Lotus can be herbed of any killed herbable mob, if u come across it, dont hesitate to comment!

Unlike all other Northrend herbs, Frost Lotus cannot be milled. I had hoped it would be a reliable source of the rare Icy Pigment, but alas not!

I found that the best herb to farm these is Firethorn. I doubt that the droprate is any higher, but it probably helps that 1) Firethorn only grows in one place in a limited number, and 2) usually no-one else is picking these. Thus all 5% Frost Lotus drops will be for you. I *always* find a few Frost Lotus while I do a couple of rounds picking Firethorn, in contrast with the other herbs where I am lucky to get a drop even once a day, especially while farming during peak hours.
Added bonus is that Fire Leaf seems to be the highest selling herb after Frost Lotus, these go for up to 90G a stack on my server.

I must be lucky. I wasn't really checking what I was gathering since I hadn't leveled my inscription yet and knew I wouldn't be able to use any of the herbs I was gathering, but I picked up two Frost Lotus in a single run of regular Nexus on my warrior with 390 herbalism. I didn't really play in BC so I don't know how hard the Fel Lotus was to get, but I know I hated trying to farm Black Lotuses pre-BC. I prefer the randomness since I can get a few as I'm still leveling herbalism.

It doesn't look like there's a use for them in inscription unfortunately. I guess I'll have to level alchemy again on another alt.

These appear to have a bug. They are incorrectly colored green, and should instead be colored blue. At least by their new drop rate :P

The Conservatory in Ulduar is herbalism heaven. Our 10m's usually have 2 or 3 herbers, and between them we can pick up a stack of frost lotus without breaking a sweat. They drop in the other herb nodes, as well as their own. They can drop 1x - 3x (random)
Once Freya is down, however, all herb nodes in Conservatory will despawn upon soft reset. So if your raid is tolerant of picking flowers, and willing, theres no reason you couldnt farm Freya trash to clear the way for the flower picking extravaganza.

hi everyone ifound a frost lotus node in wintersgrasp (didnt think it actually existed,but it does) it dropped 2 lotuses and 2 deadnettle.so they do exist and if you do a bit of searching on the net you can find a wintersgrasp map that displays all the locations that it is commonly found......happy farming

not a single person mentioned freya's room yet. every lock in her room is filled with herbs. for the last 3 weeks ive found these each lockout period:

goldclover: 7
lichbloom: 8
talandras rose: 6
icethorn: none
tiger lily: none
frost lotus: 6 (the actual plant, this isn't including random drops from other plants)
adder's tongue: 7

plus when you kill her she almost always drops alchemists rare cache, which drops up to 3 more frost lotus's and a stack of other herbs and ALOT of flasks. just clearing freyas room with no other herb/alcher's i make 700g. very nice

In response to all the posts regarding normalization and random drop rates:

Having a percent chance of something occurring does not imply you will see that much ALL the time. Over a long run, you can expect to see 5 frost lotus per 100 other nodes you pick. But that's not a guarantee. In all probability and statistical methods, there is room for variance. The lower your population, the larger your variance might be. In simple terms, you can farm 100 nodes and get 100 frost lotus (nearly impossibly, but still could happen).

Basically, each drop is independent of the next, meaning that there is a constant 5% chance to get a frost lotus every time you gather a node. This does not mean that after 19 straight nodes of no frost lotus, the next one will contain one.

So if you doubt this, record for yourself this data: number of nodes from which you have gathered (N) and the number of frost lotus you have acquired (F). To get your own personal drop rate, D, simply take F/N, then multiply by 100 to get the percentage value, D. As N increases, you will notice your drop rate, D, gets closer and closer to 5% with less variance. At first (the first hundred or so) you may notice a much higher or much lower rate, but over time it will then "normalize" and reflect a truer statistical value.

This principle applies as well to any other "random" drop rates.

I've just come back after my 6mo hiatus of playing to do a bit of herbing. I've got to say that the nodes are really...odd for frost lotus from back in Febuaryish. Nearly 1000 high-level nodes later 0 frost lotus, now I'll say that RNG being RNG, and highly sucking at times(having played a mage and knowing the meaning of RNG SUCKS), I can understand this. But really even I have a few issues with improbability being that low.

It's the same as having a bird fly into your eye on a jet at 50,000ft, or being sucked to death by mosquito's(and we make them big in Canada). So with that, the thought of paying 50-170g/each on the AH seems to indicate that FL are in short supply. As 1hr flasks are selling for 50-80g/each. Yeah, launch server, all the rest. Someone, somewhere in Blizz land is chewing on the cables making herbs dry up. I know it!

1200 nodes later 1 lotus. Yep. I'll just bang my head against the wall a bit...on the upside I'm much richer than I was before!

Farmed Wintergrasp herbs for 30 minutes this morning, and got 6 Frost Lotus. Luck can't be nerfed I guess.

On another consideration, do Raw Frost Lorus nodes have a specific respawn timer? Got 4 nodes in 10 minutes yesterday evening, and none today. Hmm, maybe somebody farmed all and left Icethorn, Lichbloom and Frozen Herbs to the world.

Anyway I agree it drops from every herb.... got one off the fire plants in Borean Tundra .. that was a real Firefrost node. =P

I'm farming my Frost Lotus in Sholazar, in avrage I've had 1 Lotus every 8-10mins or so, I have even had the luck to find a Lotus in 4 nodes in a row. And when doing the Oracle dailys I always pick the herbs that show on my minimap when flying between the quests, and I have always found atleast 2 Lotus. I guess I'm just 1 of those very lucky persons.

Can be gathered in Wintergrasp with a 100% chance. The herb you gather is called "Frost Lotus"
For me it gave x1 FL. x2 Crystallized Life and x3 Deadnettle.

I've only seen this once since around a year of WOTLK.

I found this on the north tip of the north western river.

Also, these are appearing less and less then they used to back in the day.
I remember getting one every 15 herb, i've now had about 20-30 and still nothing

If you want frost lotus go winter grasp and when the battle starts go to stormpeaks when done go back i got over a stack of frost lotus in a day i found it most useful

In WotLK Classic, all I've identified that is holding the prices down 95% is flask drops from those supplies they give you for dungeons or whatever.
Currently between 1.2g and 2.5g mostly, each. But old accounts of OG WotLK had prices as high as 40-60g commonly.
I know when people hit 80 they'll have a higher demand for flasks. But the A-type players will be bored of the game by then, so who knows.
Currently being an alchemist or herbalist is not as profitable due to bot farms running 24/7 (at least in howling fjord's Twisted Glade,) but why shut those down when they generate paying subs funded by gold buying? It's profitable for the shareholders.
Any notions on whether Blizz will allow prices to return to OG levels? These bots are pretty advanced so I'm not sure.
