Seals of the Pure

Seals of the Pure is a stand-in threat option for those going down the Holy Tree. It's weaker than the other threat alternatives but on the upside it has no prerequisite requirements making it accessible.

Healing Light

A great healing talent that is very situational for Protection. You may want to pick this up for PvP or if you are expected to heal.

Divine Intellect

Increases our intellect by 10%, making this very situational and mostly taken as a filler for Protection Paladins when going farther down the tree.

Unyielding Faith

A decent anti-cc talent that is only situationally used in PvE.

Improved Lay on Hands

Turns Lay on Hands into a strong damage reduction cd.

Aura Mastery

A potentially very strong raid cooldown and the primary reason to go down the holy tree as Protection.

Protection Tree Talents

Divinity

Decent talent when it works, but chances are a large chunk of the healing recieved from this will go into overhealing and thus wasted.

Divine Strength

Very strong threat talent. Strength attributes to our threat on every level, making this desireable over all alternatives.

Stoicism

Situationally strong anti-cc talent that is primarily for PvP purposes. Outside of PvP most value from this talent can be found in gold-farming.

Guardian's Favor

Very strong PvP talent, though not often picked for PvE Protection. The value from this talent is hard to quantify because when it pays off it usually pays off very well, but is completely dead inbetween those rare uses.

Anticipation

Strong talent for tanking purposes, the dodge from this talent is not impacted by diminishing returns meaning you will always see full value.

Improved Righteous Fury

Improved Righteous Fury is a strong multiplicative % damage reduction talent. This is an essential talent and you will nearly always take this over the alternatives.

Toughness

Largely akin to wearing an extra non-chest/leg piece in armor, makes this a strong but optional mitigation talent.

Divine Sacrifice

A very strong raid cooldown. This works similarily to Hand of Sacrifice across everyone in range. It's a powerful damage reduction tool for the entire raid, see also: Divine Sacrifice below.

Divine Guardian

This turns Divine Sacrifice into a crazy good raid cooldown that can in effect apply a 20% damage reduction on the entire raid. The damage redirecting portion of Divine Sacrifice can be cancelled manually by the caster or used in tandem with immunities to generate additional damage reduction across the entire raid.

Improved Hammer of Justice

Strong PvP talent, limited PvE use.

Improved Devotion Aura

This is a situationally strong talent that gives you 602 armor. You may opt to pick this up depending on your raid composition. With more than one Holy Paladin in the raid, you can opt to skip this in favor of more talent points down the line.

Blessing of Sanctuary

Very strong buff for solo or dungeon content, the damage reduction aspect on this talent will also see good use in raids. The stats portion does not work with kings in the stats that they share.

Reckoning

Good single-target threat talent. This is easy to pick up with any leftover talent points to amplify your build.

Sacred Duty

We like anything that increases our stamina, we'll always take this if we can. The secondary effect of reducing the CD on some of our defensives has a very tangible benefit in WotLK, making this talent just a double whammy of good.

One-Handed Weapon Specialization

Just a really solid 10% increase to damage and threat. We always take this because regardless of what happens damage is good.

Holy Shield

The source of a great deal of threat and mitigation. This spell kinda defines our entire spec, you'll always pick this up and is a part of your main rotation.

Spiritual Attunement

Generally advisable to always have at least one point in this for raid content, even though a lot of our mana concerns are gone, this guarantees that you don't run low while actually tanking as that can have disastrous consequences.

Ardent Defender

Insanely good talent for any content. Instead of dying when you are taken to 0% hp, you will instead recieve a large heal. On top of this any damage that would take you to or below 35% max health will be reduced by 20%. This makes you extremely hard to kill in normal circumstances.

Redoubt

The increase to block value makes this a great threat talent. The threat portion sees full value at roughly 1800 block value, making it very valuable in poor gear. Beyond that, it adds a significant amount of mitigation to your toolkit, we will always try to pick this up if we're tanking.

Combat Expertise

This is just an extraordinary talent as it amplifies our stamina and threat. 6 expertise skill is equivalent to 50 expertise rating.

Touched by the Light

A large portion of our threat will come from this talent. With buffs you will recieve 76% of your strength as spell power, this helps strength double dip in a lot of ways for our threat making it a very strong stat and us reliant on it.

Guarded by the Light

When specced into this, you can be expected to see full uptime on Divine Plea while attacking an enemy. You aren't forced to cap this out, 1/2 points is more than enough if your only concern is Divine Plea uptime. However, the damage reduction portion of this talent makes it fairly strong since you only need 2 points to cap it, meaning you get a lot of potential damage reduction for a low investment.

Avenger's Shield

Essentialy mainstay ability of the class, this ranged cleaving shield will pack a high damage punch and daze targets that it hits.

Shield of the Templar

Modifies our existing Avenger's Shield to also silence targets it hits, but beyond that will also give you 3% damage reduction. Since our class is all about damage reduction, it being baked into a powerful AoE control tool makes this very strong.

Judgements of the Just

The primary purpose of reducing enemy attackspeed of this talent will be taken up in most raids by a Death Knight who brings a buffed Frost Fever. Otherwise if you are running a Protection Warrior, they will bring the same debuff through Improved Thunder Clap. Ultimately, you don't have to take this if you run any of the above. The biggest use of this talent is in 10-man where your roster is more limited, or encounters where you need the CD reduction of your stun. This talent also permits your judgement to trigger your active seal for additional damage.

Hammer of the Righteous

Another cornerstone of our toolkit, this is an essential Protection Paladin skill. This will also trigger your active seal, meaning you will slowly stack up Seal of Vengeance in a cleave situation, or while target-swapping maintain the debuff on your other targets while not directly attacking them.

Retribution Tree Talents

Deflection

This is a strong avoidance talent that is not subject to the usual diminishing returns on Parry which is usually very oppressive.

Benediction

With the changes to how we generate our mana and how much, we consider this mostly a filler talent.

Improved Judgements

This is a strong talent, though we only put one point into it since we will usually never be able to cast this on its 10s or 8s cooldown otherwise. 9 seconds means it lines up very well with our other cooldowns making it a good fit for our rotation.

Heart of the Crusader

This is a strong debuff in a raid setting that can be brought using an Assassination Rogue specced into Master Poisoner or an Elemental Shaman specced into Totem of Wrath. This is not an essential talent if you raid with either an Elemental Shaman or an Assassination since both of those talents are mandatory for their respective specs. That said, it remains a potentially strong 10-man raid talent since you are less likely to run either in a more limited raid size. Running this talent at 1/3, or 2/3 will override other instances of it that is 3/3, from for example the Retribution Paladin.

Improved Blessing of Might

It's essential that this talent is picked up by someone in your raid team, whether it's a Warrior or another paladin, or yourself getting this.

Vindication

A very strong talent, while available to other classes, this is by far the cheapest and most accessible to pick up out of any class. Warrior and Druid have to pay 5 talent points for the same effect and we are largely just filling out the ret tree to get to other talents making this an easy pick up.

Conviction

Small threat talent that is generally just taken as filler for us, serves no larger purpose.

Seal of Command

A potentially very strong talent, this allows us to further amplify our already strong cleave. Since it's very easy to pick up once you are this far down into the retribution tree anyway, we consider it essential.

Pursuit of Justice

This makes us one of the fastest class in the game outside of sprint effects, while it doesn't make up for our other mobility shortcomings it's a very strong talent for repositioning and movement adjustments as well as allowing us to potentially outpace enemies.

Crusade

Very strong threat talent and a major reason to go down the retribution tree in the first place. We don't skip this if you have invested so many points to get to it.

Major Glyphs

Glyph of Righteous Defense

This is a very important glyph to keep lying around for any fight which requires you to be on point with your taunts. It drastically reduces the amount of hit required to get to cap.

Glyph of Seal of Vengeance

This is a very strong threat oriented glyph which we'll almost always take if we can. It's worth 82 expertise rating and we get it for a very low opportunity cost.

Glyph of Salvation

The strength of this glyph is primarily contingent on wether threat is a concern to you at any given time. It turns your otherwise very valuable Hand of Salvation threat reducing spell into a personal damage reducing CD. It's two sided though, since you will actively cut into your own threat when casting it on yourself, meaning you need to be clever when using this. Otherwise it's a strong PvP glyph for all circumstances.

Glyph of Divine Plea

This is just an all round very solid glyph, since we try to maintain full uptime on Divine Plea. This is definitely a glyph you should consider.

Glyph of Avenger's Shield

Good single-target threat and damage glyph. The downside might be overbearing for some players and for those there is always Glyph of Judgement.

Glyph of Judgement

A decent glyph very reminiscent of Glyph of Avenger's Shield, will generally share the same glyph slot as it. It's generally worse than Glyph of Avenger's Shield, but will find general parity with it in late Tier 8 gear and will overtake it in T9 & T10.

Glyph of Hammer of the Righteous

Potent option for all encounters where you can reliably hit 4 targets. This will find the highest value on trash or dungeons, making it a strong option to always carry around.

Glyph of Holy Wrath

Essentially doubles the amount of available Holy Wrath casts. It's a strong AoE that can also stun demons and the undead. Recommended for dungeons with a lot of targets, or larger cleave fights.

Glyph of Seal of Command

Very niched glyph that bears mention for solo content. This is the strongest when you are killing enemies single-target where you won't reliably regain mana from your other means.

Minor Glyphs

Glyph of Lay on Hands

Pretty decent minor glyph that lets us pull out more clutch Lay on Hands, pairs very well with specs that take Improved Lay on Hands. That said, it's nothing special but then again we have almost no relevant minor glyphs so this slot is free.

Glyph of Sense Undead

Completely free slot and dare I say mandatory for any content that involve undead.

Warrior with booming voice doesn't give the same AP as imp might, that note should be imp battle shout. Warriors don't usually take it, so there always needs to be a paladin in raid with imp might.

I don't understand why do we need Judgements of the Just. The primary purpose of reducing enemy attackspeed - is it that good? I see no difference between attacks. Other bonuses seems mostly PvP. I think the only good point of this talent is helping mages with Torment the Weak. But you definitely got DKs Frost Fever in raids.
And Pursuit of Justice feels kinda useless because most of the time tank is standing still tanking bosses. But yeah we need 2 points to get to the Crusade.
