Tips for Tanks on Sartharion
The main tank will bring Sartharion to the very near edge of the platform and the tank will stand on the left edge. This allows a lot of room on the rest of the platform for the rest of the raid to handle the drakes.
While tanking Sartharion the main tank will need to strafe left or right to avoid the
烈焰之啸
lava walls that spawn frequently during the encounter.
A second tank character will be assigned to pick up each of the three Drakes as they land as well as any
火焰旋风
or whelp adds.
If you are assigned to tank the
火焰旋风
adds, be sure to maneuver them between the lava walls. If the Fire Cyclones are hit by the lava wall, it will buff them and increase their damage output.
Tips for Melee on Sartharion
The most important thing for damage dealers on this fight is to properly avoid the
虚空冲击
s and
烈焰之啸
lava walls. Your raid needs your damage output, and you cannot do any of that if you are dead.
Save your cooldowns for the drakes - killing them quickly is very important for the success of the raid.
Tips for Ranged on Sartharion
The most important thing for damage dealers on this fight is to properly avoid the

s and
烈焰之啸
lava walls. Your raid needs your damage output, and you cannot do any of that if you are dead.
Save your cooldowns for the drakes - killing them quickly is very important for the success of the raid.
Tips for Healers on Sartharion
Damage will be coming in on the main tank as well as the secondary tank. There is some incidental damage to raid members but it mostly comes from their own mistakes standing in
虚空冲击
s and
烈焰之啸
.
After Shadron lands, Sartharion will deal +50% more fire damage. This can result in big damage spikes on the tank from Sartharion's Flame Breath attack. This is a great time for defensive cooldowns.

Different Strategies and Difficulties
In this guide we will focus on the hard mode for Sartharion that allows you to access all of the possible drops from the boss, including the epic mounts

(10 player). To enable the "3 drakes" version of Sartharion, your raid will clear out all the trash mobs in the zone but leave all three of the twilight drakes alive, then engage Sartharion. If your raid struggles to complete this mode, you can go back and kill the twilight drakes individually to make the encounter easier.
Sartharion Three Drakes Strategy
There are quite a few different things that can kill players during this encounter and it is important everyone knows what those are and how to avoid them. The first are the Twilight Fissures that spawn on the ground. These are purple circles that players will need to quickly move out of. After about 5 seconds the fissure will explode with
虚空冲击
that deals a huge amount of damage, with a high chance of killing anyone hit by it.
Another huge source of deaths are the
烈焰之啸
s. Throughout the encounter there will periodically be a huge wall of lava spawning on either the left or right side of the center platform. The lava wall will then move across the platform, knocking back and causing damage to anyone hit by it, usually killing them. The lava wall will have a few gaps in it and players must look at where those gaps are and move to them to not be hit by the lava wall.
During the encounter many
火焰旋风
will spawn that look like small fire elementals. These aren't too dangerous, but they will need to be picked up by a tanking character as they will destroy healers if allowed to. The Fire Cyclones do become dangerous if they are hit by a lava wall though - this enrages the Fire Cyclones causing them to deal much more damage. Whoever is tanking the cyclones will need to carefully position them so that they are not buffed by the lava walls.
Any
火焰旋风
or Twilight Whelps that spawn should be picked up by the second tank character and brought near the melee damage dealers to be easily cleaved and AoE'd down. A
潜行者
or
猎人
using
嫁祸诀窍
or
误导
can really help control these enemies, since the second tank will be mostly occupied with the drake enemies.
Now that you have a understanding of how to not die on this encounter, lets cover the general execution of the encounter.
Your main tank should grab the boss and stand on the near side of the platform right at an edge. This allows a lot of room for the rest of the raid to spread out and handle the drakes that will land one by one. The tank will need to strafe left or right occasionally to avoid the
烈焰之啸
lava walls which will turn Sartharion slightly, but it shouldn't be too much. Damage dealers should always be aware of the
虚空冲击
and the lava walls and properly avoid these mechanics.
The difficult part of the fight starts about 30 seconds in when the first drake Tenebron lands, and it becomes easy after the third drake Vesperon is defeated. Each drake will come in at a specific time, and open a twilight portal that players can enter with different abilities related to that portal. Each drake will have a frontal cone breath attack so must be tanked facing away from the raid.
Tenebron will land about 30 seconds after Sartharion is engaged. A second tank should pick up Tenebron and damage dealers should focus to pump a lot of damage out. The twilight portal will have many whelp eggs which will hatch after some delay, spawning Twilight Whelp adds into the "normal" realm outside of the portal. This portal should be ignored and just kill the whelps after they spawn. Ideally you will kill Tenebron in about 45 seconds, right as the second drake Shadron lands.
After 75 seconds from the start of the encounter, Shadron will land. The tank for Tenebron will need to pick up Shadron as well, so hopefully your DPS did a good job and Tenebron is dead or very nearly dead. The twilight portal will now contain an Acolyte of Shadron enemy. The Acolyte of Shadron and Shadron the drake being alive causes two things - Sartharion is immune to all damage taken and Sartharion deals 50% increased fire damage. This Acolyte can be ignored and just kill Shadron to make the buffs go away.
Finally 120 seconds into the fight, Vesperon will land. Similar to Shadron landing the hope is that the damage dealers have the previous drake dead or almost dead so the tank does not have to handle two drakes at once for very long. The twilight portal for Vesperon will contain an Acolyte of Vesperon. Both the Acolyte and the drake Vesperon being alive causes
暮光折磨
- which increases fire and shadow damage taken by the raid by 75%
and
causes all players to take extra shadow damage whenever they attack an enemy. This is not one to be ignored - some damage dealers and at least one healer should enter the portal and execute the Acolyte of Vesperon as soon as possible. It helps if you have a plate DPS class who can pretend to be a tank for a few seconds in the portal, but it isn't super necessary.
After the Acolyte of Vesperon is defeated players can exit the Twilight Realm and return to finish off Vesperon. Once Vesperon is defeated the scary part is over and DPS can resume on Sartharion and casually finish off the boss.
Sartharion Three Drakes Zerg Strategy
A popular strategy for raids with high DPS is to ignore the drakes and burn Sartharion as fast as possible. With the +65% bonus to health that Sartharion receives for all three Drakes being alive, this requires around 140,800 raid DPS to achieve. For this to work, you'll need to kill Sartharion before Shadron lands and buffs Sartharion with damage immunity. The buff happens a little bit after Shadron lands, about 90 seconds into the fight.
If your raid can achieve such impressive damage output, this strategy greatly simplifies the fight as it will involve far fewer mechanics and far less time having to dodge the mechanics that are still there. Depending on your raid composition your required damage output per damage dealer varies -
22 Damage Dealers: Average of 6,400 DPS each.
21 Damage Dealers: Average of 6,700 DPS each.
20 Damage Dealers: Average of 7,040 DPS each.
Sartharion Loot for The Obsidian Sanctum in Wrath of the Lich King Classic
Sartharion's loot works differently than most bosses. For each of the three drakes left alive when you start the encounter, Sartharion will have additional drop possibilities and also drop more items total. Items are listed with a number next to them either 0, 1, 2, or 3 - this is the minimum number of drakes that must be left alive when the encounter is started to have a chance to see this item.

Sartharion Abilities for The Obsidian Sanctum in Wrath of the Lich King Classic
Ability
Description
烈焰吐息
This is a basic frontal-cone attack that will hit all players in front of the boss for a lot of fire damage.
扫尾
Tail Lash is a rear-cone attack that will stun and damage players standing behind Sartharion.
烈焰之啸
Flame Tsunami is the name for the giant walls of lava that wash across the battlefield during the encounter. These can spawn on the left and move right, or spawn on the right and move left. There will always be a small gap in the lava wall that players can move to in order to not be hit by it. Any players who are hit by the lava wall will be knocked back and afflicted with this nasty damage over time effect, dealing a huge amount of damage to them.
火焰旋风
Fire Cyclones are small fire elemental enemies that will spawn during the encounter. Normally these are pretty unremarkable, but if a Fire Cyclone is hit by a
烈焰之啸
, it will enrage the Fire Cyclone causing it to deal a lot more damage.
虚空冲击
Void Blast is the attack used by the
暮光裂隙
that spawn during the fight. These will spawn beneath the feet of a random player and then "explode" with a Void Blast after 5 seconds, damaging anyone still standing in the area.
塔尼布隆
Tenebron will land shortly after engaging Sartharion if he is left alive before starting the encounter. He isn't too dangerous until Sartharion reaches 25%, at which point Tenebron will go Berserk, increasing his damage dealt by around 500%.
暮光之赐
About 90 seconds after engaging Sartharion, Shadron will bless Sartharion with Gift of Twilight if Shadron was left alive before the encounter started. This causes Sartharion to deal increased fire damage and also be immune to all incoming damage. If all goes according to plan, Sartharion will be dead before this happens.
